Kimberly Warner is a film director and producer based in Portland, Oregon. After receiving her degree in Pre-Med and Biology at Colorado College and pursuing her Masters degree at National University of Naturopathic Medicine, Kimberly abruptly changed paths and has never looked back. Her work, still founded in a passion for the psychological and social patterns that influence healing, has traded herbs for a camera, prescriptions for storytelling. Kimberly has written, shot, directed and edited narrative films, webisodes and corporate and non-profit brand videos. She's written and directed two of her own narrative short films and both have screened at film festivals globally and garnered numerous awards. In 2015, Kimberly developed Mal de Débarquement Syndrome, an incurable neurological disorder that manifests as a feeling of constant rocking, bobbing or swaying. As months turned to years, her sense of self dissipated as her relationship to her body, her career and her community faded. At forty years young, she watched the rest of the world continue on while she was stuck trying to figure out how to put her pants back on. After years of isolation and desperately chasing a fix, Kimberly realized the chase was making her more sick. So she decided to learn how to say “yes” - yes to the messy, uncomfortable, painful journey of being alive and how to incorporate it into a bigger, fuller definition of herself. She founded Unfixed Media Productions in 2019 as way to find others who are doing the same, have honest conversations and demonstrate that our wounds and weaknesses are our strengths, they complete us and they equip us to help others. These inevitable peaks and valleys of living with an incurable, chronic condition are part of an expanding Unfixed portfolio that currently includes a docu-series, podcast, round-table webcast and feature documentary film all in production. Unfixed Media Productions has led to Kimberly's larger advocacy role within the chronic illness community where, alongside directing and producing media, she writes and speaks about her own patient experiences and how healing can exist even when our bodies can't be cured. She is the 2020 recipient of the Invisible Disabilities Association's Media Impact Award. When Kimberly isn't nurturing and developing the many facets of Unfixed, she works a small, sustainable homestead with her husband in rural Oregon. A Girl's Guide to the Outback is available now at all good bookstores. How far will a girl go to win back a guy she can't stand? This funny, sweet, and romantic story proves that opposites do attract-and that God has a sense of humor. Samuel Payton is a passionate youth pastor in Virginia, but below the surface, he's still recovering from the blow of a failed business and insecurities he can't shake. His coworker, start-up expert Kimberly Foster, is brilliant, fearless, and capable, but years of personal rejection have left her defensive and longing for a family. Two people have never been more at odds-or more attracted to one another. And every day at work, the sparks sure do fly. When Kimberly's ambitious plans for Sam's ministry butt up against his risk-averse nature, Sam decides that obligations to family trump his work for the church. He quits the ministry and heads home to Australia to help his sister, Jules, save her struggling farm. As Kimberly's grand plans flounder, she is forced to face the truth: that no one can replace Sam. Together they strike up a deal: If Kimberly comes to work on Jules's dairy farm and lends her business brains to their endeavor, then maybe-just maybe-Sam will reconsider his future with the church. As Kimberly tries her hand at Australian farm life, she learns more about herself than she could've ever expected. Meanwhile Sam is forced to re-evaluate this spunky woman he thought he already knew. As foes slowly morph into friends, they wonder if they might be something even more. But when disaster looms, will Sam find it within himself to take a risk that could lead to love? And will Kimberly trust God with her future?

Kimberly Turbin made headlines and history when she sued her doctor for assault when he gave her a medically unnecessary and botched episiotomy during the birth of her child. The case was resolved in 2017, but Kimberly is still dealing with the effects of the assault. In this episode, Kimberly recounts not only her experience, but the aftermath of the trauma she experienced in 2013. “I posted the video just to see if I was crazy or not.” The video of the birth, posted to YouTube, ended up connecting Kimberly to a community of people who have supported her, and who she has supported, with the continuing process of her trauma. Her medical diagnoses, which included vulvar spasms, dyspareunia, vulvodynia and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, still cause considerable pain. Unfortunately, the drugs that help the condition are both expensive and make it hard to parent or work. “My injury is forever and a lifetime.” In the medical community and beyond, there’s a tendency to disbelieve women’s pain. When Kimberly tries to warn medical professionals that she has been through both sexual assault and birth assault, they tend to feel attacked instead of sympathetic. It has changed the way she interacts with the medical community – even eye doctors - and it has also affected the way she parents. But Kimberly doesn’t want anyone else to feel pressure to respond to birth trauma the way she did. The process was and is challenging; the fact that the law suit was resolved does not mean the trauma is resolved. WANT TO LEARN MORE? Go to www.birthmonopoly.com WANT TO CONNECT? What would you do if you dared to do and be more? Today I have proven sales and recruiting expert, Kimberly Patrick with me on this episode of Financial Fluency. Kimberly is a sales coach, entrepreneur, real estate investor, and author (among many other roles). She focuses on helping senior executives identify, select, and attract passive top talent. Kimberly’s path was a winding one. She starts by telling me how she got into her many businesses. From multi-level marketing to social work, to sales and recruiting, and finally to where she is today with her own business. For Kimberly, her entrepreneurial spirit started at a young age as she observed her grandparents run their own family business. When Kimberly was in college, she began her sales career with Mary Kay and got her taste of multi-level marketing. She quickly realized that she was better suited in a B2B environment instead of selling in a B2C market. After college, Kimberly went on to social work, but that career path was emotionally and mentally exhausting. It wasn’t until graduate school when she started building companies with her ex-husband and then she moved into the sales and recruiting industry. On the show, Kimberly tells me how she started her first recruiting business in 2008. But that year, real estate among many other industries collapsed. All of her clients were laying off instead of hiring. Kimberly hung in there a bit, but it was also a tough year for her personally as it was professionally. She was going through a divorce, and took a lot of time for herself and moved back to DC. Fast forward to today, Kimberly most recently launched a program, Smart Selling, for women in business. This program is 10-12 weeks, and it helps members identify clients, hammer in on their marketing and sales plans, optimize their sales funnels, and more. To help those having difficulty with this aspect of their business, they’ll take a look at where (what channels) they’re posting and what they’re posting. She says messaging is very important, so it’s essential to tweak as needed and get creative throughout the process. Kimberly’s Tips on How to Get Started: Identify your target audience. First, you have to make sure who your ideal client is and where they hang out. See where they are and start engaging with them. Build out your freebies. Get to know your target audience and start conversations with them. Let them know about your offers and freebies, especially if you’re selling directly to a consumer. Pick technology carefully. The technology you use throughout your business is very important. Kimberly uses a few tools to help her business such as ActiveCampaign and Instapage. You can learn more about Kimberly and her business by visiting her website: http://kimberlyapatrick.com/ or following her on social media: Purpose Driven Mompreneurs Facebook Group Facebook LinkedIn   Resources Smart Selling Coaching Program: http://kimberlyapatrick.com/getmoreclients Kimberly’s Book: Dare to be More   Bio Kimberly Patrick has served as an advisor to some of the brightest CEO’s, Presidents, and Leaders. Kim is a Certified Business Coach and a driven entrepreneur. She became passionate about working with business owners as a child, while growing up in a family business. Kim has been an entrepreneur since she was 17. She has founded multiple companies in real estate development, recruiting, and fitness. Kim lives in Austin and is a new mom. She is truly living the dream and juggling everything! She spends her “spare” time investing and developing real estate, coaching mompreneurs, and helping startups find and attract the best talent. Kim serves  on the board of directors of The Texas Recruiters Association and is the Director of StartupGrind Austin. Kimberly James grew up believing that ‘black people don’t travel’. At 24, she went to Europe with a friend, and instantly got bit by the travel bug. When she turned 25, she moved to Mexico, by herself, and hasn’t stopped traveling since. Kimberly is in her mid-40s now, and still hears the words, “Black people don’t travel,” from fellow African Americans. Well, after traveling to over 60 countries, Kimberly is living proof that’s not the case. If you want to travel, don’t let your race, or gender, hold you back.   Key Takeaways: *Kimberly first started traveling solo at the age of 25. *Kimberly went on a trip with a friend to Europe when she was 24, but she initially didn’t want to go. She thought, “Black people don’t travel.” *On that trip, she went to 6 countries in 3 weeks, and fell in love with traveling. *When she came back, she had her mind set on living in another country. She didn’t even know anyone who had lived, or even traveled, outside of the U.S., at that time. *So, what’s the deal with the whole ‘black people don’t travel’ myth? *When Kimberly was traveling in the 90s, she rarely saw another African American traveling. *Kimberly is now in her mid-40s and she still hears, “Black people don’t travel.” *People think Kimberly is fearless, but she’s not. She has fear. The difference is that she goes even when she’s afraid. *Kimberly is a strong advocate of taking self-defence classes. *Being robbed happens in the U.S., too. We’re not immune to these things, even in our home country. *Kimberly went to China and Japan when she was 13 years old, and she hated the trip! *Where does Kimberly find her inspiration? *What advice does Kimberly have for those who want to do solo travel? *Kimberly talks about her Antarctica trips. She’s been there 3 times so far, and is currently planning another trip over there soon! *P.S., Kimberly hates cold weather. There’s just something special in Antarctica, you can’t find anywhere else. *Why did Kimberly decide to write a book?   Mentioned in This Episode: Transformviatravel.com Transform via Travel on Facebook @GoSoloLive on Twitter Email: Jennifer@TransformviaTravel.com Quarkexpeditions.com   Connect with Kimberly: Website Finding My Brave Space, by Kimberly James Booksandwanderlust.com   Leave a Review: Did you like this episode?
