My guest today, on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a lady who certainly seems to have found her thing in life, and is now taking that out in to the world to help others find theirs too. With a diverse background in retail, hospitality (resort and restaurants), event production/promotions, both for and not for profit, and executive management, she built the stepping stones to what leads to success. And you could see that it really started to go her way after joining a start up media company in 1993. Within this business she grew the profits from $60K a month in revenue to finishing the first year in business with $7mm, leading to the company having explosive growth each year thereafter. After selling the media company in 2007, shee was asked to stay on with the new organisation to be an integral part of their aggressive growth strategy, acquiring 5 media companies in under 2 years. And more success followed, before she stepped out on her own by creating her own Strategic Marketing and Operations Consultancy business. Now, if that isn't interesting enough the bit that i like about her career history, and where we will spend time, is her understanding that at their core, all businesses thrive or die on 3 key areas. and this doesn't matter what business they are operating in. She is an expert in The MESSAGE, the MARKET, and then the MEDIA, and within these three areas, she likes nothing better than creating successful marketing campaigns that will naturally generate more revenue to the bottom line as well as a broader reach in the market place. And that is what we all want after all. So was she always an entrepreneur at heart, or did she reluctantly go about building her own dream life, and career? And if business can be simplified to these three stages, why do so many people struggle, especially in the online environment? Well lets fin out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dost the one and only Carrie Hartunian Smith

Doug- @DJDoug Strickland- @NiceGuyonBiz “Smart Marketing Consulting” - Closing the gap between where you are and where you want to be. It is all about the message, the market and then your media.  How am I Going to Compete Outside of the Corporate World?!   The purpose of what the corporate world was doing was not fulfilling to Carrie anymore. Instead of wide-net marketing, she jumped into honing in on technology and target that perfect client. If does not matter what the benefits are, if you do not love what you do, it is not worth it. Having a job that you hate, it takes away your motivation and energy even after hours.   Passion Search   Ask yourself: “If you didn't have to make any money, what would you do?” There is nothing you can do more than display your knowledge and what you've done to gain the trust and attention of your niche. Capitalize on people trusting you. It is about creating value and not asking anything from them except for maybe a name and an e-mail address. All too often, people in marketing are going up to people and first say, “Buy my stuff, buy my stuff.” There needs to be progression.   There are 3 key ways to grow your business: Increase the amount of customers Increase the average transaction overall Increase the average transaction per customer   Linkedin? Facebook? Twitter? Do I need to be on that? The better or bigger answer is, “It depends.” Where is your niche? How are you handling current customers? Are you giving value first? WHO are you marketing to? Identify the specifics, try to describe the perfect client. Then use that to advertise smartly.   Contact Carrie: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/carriehartuniansmith “Hot Seat Conversations”: https://www.amazon.com/Hot-Seat-Conversations-Noticed-Going-ebook/dp/B00NKQ9V0Q#nav-subnav Twitter:https://twitter.com/cccarrie7 Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Carrie-Hartunian-Smith-312259675623007/   Show notes: Production Assistant - Anna Nygren http://www.annavnygren.com/ Go to Nice Guy Community sign-up and we'll send you the free E-Book "The 5 biggest (relationship) mistakes in business" AND be one of the first 100 people to sign up for the Nice Guys Community to get an invite to our first (to be scheduled) live podcast.   Click through our Amazon.com link before buying anything. Carrie Hartunian works with business owners and entrepreneurs to develop accelerated growth strategies in highly competitive industries. She creates and executes strategic growth plans,  directing integrations and marketing automation, as well as  manages projects and establishes benchmarks for success. Her expertise in fostering winning cultures, increased productivity and reducing costs in mission-driven environments are just a few of her recognized talents as a talented and accomplished leader. Playing Small Moment Carrie didn’t feel like she was playing an essential role at her family owned business but she had big aspirations to become significant. Her small moment came when her family’s company was purchased by a group of venture capitalists. The COO hired her for a short 6-month transition period. It was then that Carrie started to see her true value. She tapped into her special gifts and began acquiring other companies and moved into the advertising world with great success. The Wake Up Call Carrie was ripe for a wake up call. The position she was in didn’t give her a reason to mentally get out of bed in the morning. But as a single mom, she needed to be thoughtful in her decisions. When her discomfort grew to disabling, she dusted off her resume and accepted what was at that time a risky out of state opportunity to help an ad agency get off the ground. It was there she was able to surround herself with people she could learn from. Style of Leadership Carrie believes in inspiring enthusiasm in her team because it helps to motivate them towards goals. If a team doesn’t buy into a leader’s vision, then the plan won’t work. A leader must listen to the team and be open to changing their plan if a great idea comes out of brainstorming. Current Leadership Challenge Carrie’s current challenge is trying to scale her service-based business. It is a ‘which direction to lead her business’ type of challenge. What Are You Excited About? Carrie has been working with business people to elevate their brand by writing a book and getting it to rank on amazon. The book is designed to build the client’s authority, generate leads and gain a profit. She says there is nothing more exciting than telling a client they have made it to #1 bestseller in multiple categories. Leadership Practice Parenting taught Carrie how to overcome challenges in creative ways which made her a better leader. She also adapts her observations from people watching in to her leadership practice.
