Healthy Mind, Healthy Life
Is Circular Fashion Truly Sustainable Or Just Smart Marketing With Jessica Rennard?

Healthy Mind, Healthy Life

In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Yusuf sits down with Jessica Rennard, Chief Merchandising Officer at HELPSY and long-time resale innovator, for a real conversation on what sustainable fashion actually looks like behind the scenes. They dig into the tension between mission and margins, how circular fashion and resale really work in practice, and why keeping clothes out of landfills is more complex than any tagline. This is a grounded look at circular fashion, resale, and the clothing reuse economy, including what happens when ethics cost money, why brands still overproduce, and how consumers can buy with more intention. If you care about sustainable fashion, circular economy, mental health of founders, ethical leadership, and conscious consumption, this episode gives you practical questions to ask yourself the next time you hit “buy now”.   About the Guest  : Jessica Rennard is Chief Merchandising Officer at HELPSY, a certified B Corp focused on clothing reuse and circular solutions. She has spent years building the resale and returns ecosystem, from launching her own secondhand business to scaling circular returns models for brands. Jessica is known for her no-nonsense perspective on sustainability. She focuses on real impact, not green marketing.   Key Takeaways: Sustainable fashion is still business. Companies like HELPSY must stay profitable while trying to keep clothing out of landfills, which means constant trade offs between mission and margins. Circular fashion works best when companies find a clear model that balances profitability and sustainability, such as circular returns where brands send returns directly to a reuse partner. Doing the right thing sometimes costs money. Paying to repair or recycle damaged items is not always “financially smart”, yet it is essential if a company claims to be sustainable. There is still confusion over who owns responsibility. Brands, consumers, governments, and manufacturers all touch a garment, but no single sector has fully claimed end of life accountability. Secondhand and resale extend a garment's life, but they do not automatically reduce overproduction. If every secondhand purchase is matched with a new one, the system stays linear. Consumers play a key role. Choosing purposeful purchases and planning what will happen to an item when you are done with it are powerful, practical steps. A simple rule. Before buying, ask where that piece will go next. Donate to trusted nonprofits or reuse partners instead of sending clothing to the trash.   How to Connect with the Guest   Listeners can connect with Jessica Rennard here. Kritz and her sister Bianca have built one of Australia's most trusted wellbeing programs, reaching over 25,000 students and proving that doing good and making money don't have to be mutually exclusive. In this episode, Mia and Kritz unpack what it really takes to build a purpose-led business that lasts: how to price impact work fairly, say no to misaligned opportunities, and keep your values intact as you grow. They also explore the hidden costs of “doing good,” why following your gut in business is underrated, and how emotional storytelling can connect — without crossing into oversharing. The big takeaway: Purpose isn't enough — structure, sustainability, and self-awareness make it work. When you charge what you're worth, protect your team, and stay aligned with your mission, you don't just make an impact — you make it last.

Send us a textMost contractors don't have a marketing problem—they have a systems problem. We sat down with Skip Wilson, CEO of Draft Media Partners and a veteran of iHeart's digital era, to break down how to replace tactic-hopping with a durable plan that compounds. We start with the core: define a real audience, clarify the action you want (calls, forms, financing inquiries), craft messages people actually care about, and then build a channel mix that won't collapse when a platform changes the rules. We get practical fast. If “family-owned” is your headline, you're blending in. Instead, choose a USP that's provable and valuable: same-day installs, weekend hours without overtime, or flexible financing. From there, we map a resilient stack that aligns operations with demand: a CRM that can handle volume, automated nurturing to recover no-shows and slow deciders, strong search visibility, and brand-building through video and audio with precise household targeting. One standout tactic: retarget website visitors with oversized direct mail that lands days after they browse—perfect for bigger, non-urgent purchases like tankless water heaters, where timing and recall close the gap.Measurement is the unlock. We walk through shifting from cost per lead to customer acquisition cost and show how matchbacks connect exposure on CTV, radio, and social to actual new customers. No advanced stack? Use call tracking and a simple monthly CAC baseline to create a meaningful “pass/fail” view. Month one is an educated guess; month two should be optimization, not reinvention. When leads dip, pull pre-planned levers—adjust the audience, rotate offers, move budget up or down the funnel, or trigger targeted mail and outbound—rather than scrambling for “what's new.”If you're ready to stop chasing the most expensive leads in your market and start building a brand people search by name, this conversation is your blueprint. Listen, take notes, and then tell us: what's your current CAC target, and which lever will you pull next? In this episode of Hustle Inspires Hustle, Alex Quin breaks down practical, actionable strategies to help both e-commerce and service-based businesses succeed during Black Friday. He emphasizes the importance of keeping offers simple—such as clear tiered discounts or urgency-based service upgrades—to reduce friction and improve conversions. Alex stresses that successful marketing goes beyond flashy ads; it's about preparation across your funnel, creative assets, and backend systems. From fast-loading product pages to tight onboarding flows and accurate CRM tracking, every part of the customer journey needs to be ready. He also dives into content strategy and ad execution, encouraging brands to repurpose their top-performing content from earlier in the year with updated Black Friday messaging. Volume matters—especially with Meta's new Andromeda update—so having multiple creatives pre-approved and scheduled can lower costs and reduce last-minute stress. Whether paid or organic, campaigns should be well-structured and tracked meticulously. The core message? Black Friday isn't about hype—it's about execution, efficiency, and data-driven decisions.Episode Outline: [00:00] Welcome Back: Alex thanks listeners and sets up the Black Friday topic [00:15] Importance of Simplicity: Easy-to-understand offers and discounts [00:45] Service Business Tips: Creating urgency with bonuses and intro deals [01:10] Creative Strategy: Bold visuals, testimonials, and multi-format content [01:45] Funnel Tips: Fast product pages, clean checkout, single-action landing pages [02:10] Backend Systems: Fulfillment, calendar space, CRM, and onboarding readiness [02:40] Financial Modeling: Know your margins, track all costs [03:05] Repurposing Content: Use your best-performing content with new Black Friday angles [03:30] Meta Update & Scheduling: More creatives = lower cost; schedule everything early [04:00] Post-Purchase & Tracking: Upsells, LTV, CRM follow-ups, and clean analytics [04:20] Final Thought: Black Friday is about preparation, not just hypeWisdom Nuggets:Simplicity Sells: Your offer should be instantly understandable. Whether it's tiered discounts or bundled services, remove friction—no mental math or coupon codes.Urgency Wins: Black Friday thrives on limited-time offers. Add urgency through countdowns, limited bonuses, or time-sensitive upgrades to drive faster conversions.Prep the Back End: A killer front-end campaign fails without backend support. From ecom fulfillment to service onboarding systems, preparation prevents revenue leaks.Repurpose to Scale: Your best content from earlier in the year is your blueprint. Reuse proven assets with Black Friday messaging instead of creating from scratch.Track Everything or Risk Everything: If your data is off, your scaling efforts will fail. Send us a textBuilding a consulting firm from scratch requires more than expertise—it demands vision, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to culture. Edward Beals, founder of Loft9, demonstrates how these principles can transform a startup consultancy into an acquisition target in less than a decade.Starting with just two founders and modest investment, Loft9 achieved remarkable first-year results: 17 employees and $2.2 million in revenue. Beals attributes this success to their cultural foundation, what he calls the "trifecta of awesomeness"—hiring people who are smart, driven, and humble. This cultural emphasis wasn't just internal; it became their market differentiator when competing against established players."Clients are looking for a partner, someone who's going to roll up their sleeves and get in the trenches with them," Beals explains. "Not just someone to come in, tell them what to do, and walk away with a fancy deck left behind." This philosophy, combined with their co-delivery quality assurance model, helped them win business despite never being the lowest-priced option. When SIA Partners acquired Loft9 in 2019, the deal came together with surprising speed—just three months from letter of intent to closing. The acquisition offered strategic advantages for both companies: SIA gained a West Coast presence, while Loft9 accessed complementary capabilities in design thinking and data science without having to build them from scratch. For aspiring consultancy founders, Beals offers practical wisdom: invest in marketing earlier than you think necessary (particularly SEO), surround yourself with critical perspectives that challenge your ideas, and find deep personal motivation—for him, it was providing for his children—that will sustain you through the inevitable challenges of entrepreneurship.Want to transform your consultancy's value? Eric Barstow graduated with an economics degree, seemingly destined for Wall Street. Instead, he stuck with the painting business he started in college—a side hustle that was already generating $110,000 a year while he worked only five to ten hours a week. Realizing the massive opportunity and low competition in the home service space, Eric leaned in. Today, he is the co-founder of National Painting Group, projecting $35 million this year, and runs Painting Business Pro. And guess what? He barely knows how to paint.Eric's entire model proves entrepreneurs don't need trade skills to build a multi-million dollar service business; they need systems. His strategy relies entirely on leveraging subcontractors—a method that fixes profit margins, eliminates liability, and perfectly manages seasonal slowdowns. He reveals his exact tactics for finding reliable subs (including his specific Craigslist and paint store strategies) and shares the "Phase Zero" marketing hustle needed to land your first customers, including his scripts for door-to-door marketing. He details his proven sales process, including how to use price anchoring and specific incentives to close deals on the spot, and breaks down the financial model required to maintain a 20% net profit margin. If you want to build a highly profitable business without ever picking up the tools, this episode is essential listening.Takeaways:- You do not need to be skilled in the trade to build a successful trade business; Eric is an awful painter, but he excels at building marketing, sales, and management systems. - Leveraging subcontractors instead of employees is the most efficient way to scale a service business, as it fixes your margins (fixed price per job), reduces liability, and allows you to scale up or down instantly with seasonal demand.- Find reliable subcontractors by posting ads twice daily in both the "general labor" and "skilled trades" sections of Craigslist, or by approaching painters in unmarked vans at local paint stores.- In "Phase Zero" (getting from $0 to stability), focus only on marketing that generates leads quickly, such as door-to-door sales and lawn signs. Avoid long-term plays like SEO or vehicle wraps.- A highly effective lawn sign strategy is placing them near high-traffic retail areas (like Costco or Whole Foods) on a Friday afternoon, as city workers are unlikely to remove them over the weekend.- Use "price anchoring" in your sales process. Before showing the contract, verbally tell the customer the typical price range for a job their size (e.g., "A house like this is usually about $6,000") to reset their expectations.- Create urgency and close deals on the spot by offering incentives that also benefit your business, such as a small dollar amount discount (never a percentage) if they sign that day or agree to take an urgent open spot on your schedule.- You should aim for a 20% net profit margin. A healthy budget allocates 50% to labor/materials, under 10% to marketing, 6-7% to sales, 6-7% to project management, and 7-8% to overhead.- The market size is irrelevant; success depends on implementation. Eric has clients doing millions in revenue in towns with populations as small as 27,000. - Build the business around your desired lifestyle from day one. By setting firm constraints (like working only 30 hours a week or never on weekends), you force yourself to build efficient systems rather than just working more hours.Tags:  Business Skills, Service & Consulting, Subcontracting, Marketing, Home ServiceResources:Grow your business today: https://links.upflip.com/the-business-startup-and-growth-blueprint-podcastConnect with Eric: https://paintingbusinesspro.com/

In this powerhouse episode, the team unpacks real-world, actionable marketing tactics that restaurant owners can implement immediately to drive traffic, create loyal customers, and boost profits—without relying on gimmicks or deep discounts. From the power of thoughtful guest experiences to bounce-back promotions and handwritten letters to lapsed customers, this is a masterclass in doing marketing the right way. Packed with humor, strategy, and personal stories, this episode delivers the perfect blend of inspiration and execution—proving that even the smallest marketing effort can lead to big results when it's done with intention.   Key Takeaways: Elevate the Guest Experience A warm welcome, fast service, accurate orders, and friendly follow-through are marketing tactics in disguise. Great hospitality = repeat business = higher lifetime customer value. Menu Design is Strategic Use the Golden Triangle of eye movement to highlight your most profitable items. Your specials should be "special" for both the customer and the operator—easy to execute, high margin, and memorable. Host In-House Events Wine tastings, trivia nights, and theme dinners on slower weekdays are powerful tools to build community and fill tables. Partner with vendors who may help cover costs or provide promotional support. Bounce-Back Offers Done Right Get guests to return with limited-time offers—but only after their first visit. Examples: "Come back in 7 days for a free dessert" or "Next visit appetizer on us." Use Guerrilla Text Marketing Borrow tactics from political campaigns (urgency, personalization, exclusivity). Build a list and send targeted, engaging messages like "You've been hand-selected" or "Spots are filling up." Turn Customers into Promoters Make your restaurant Instagram-able (photo walls, branded hashtags). Personalize touchpoints—birthdays, anniversaries, and even beta-tester panels for new dishes. Community & Loyalty Engage schools, PTAs, and neighborhood leaders—support them and they'll support you. Feature a "Customer of the Month" to spotlight regulars and drive local goodwill.

Building a business is one thing; holding your vision steady through growth, pressure, and uncertainty is something else entirely.   Alex Raymond sits down with John Sampogna, the co-founder and CEO of Wondersauce, to talk about what the entrepreneurial journey really demands once the excitement wears off. John shares how he built a 100-person agency, why he created a “mental balance sheet” to manage the emotional costs of leadership, and what he learned from selling his company while staying true to its original vision. How do you scale without losing yourself in the process? How do you know when a business opportunity is truly right for you, not just financially but personally?   John also digs into the realities of leadership that rarely get talked about: why bottlenecks are your best feedback loop, why approachability matters more than you think, and why a thriving business culture starts with making space for mistakes. He challenges entrepreneurs to rethink what scale really means in the age of AI and shares why lasting success depends on more than just growth metrics.   If you are building a business and want to do it with intention, resilience, and clarity, this conversation will give you a much-needed shift in perspective.   Episode Breakdown: 00:00 Introduction 01:14 Holding a Long-Term Vision Through Growth and Uncertainty 03:49 Selling Wondersauce and Choosing the Right Partner 09:01 How the Founder Role Changes After Acquisition 10:02 Navigating Earn-Outs, COVID, and the Rise of AI 12:10 Building a Mental Balance Sheet for Emotional Resilience 15:00 Scaling a Business Without Burning Out 19:25 Bottlenecks as a Signal for Operational Change 22:05 Creating Psychological Safety and Strong Leadership 25:59 Smart Marketing and True Differentiation for Entrepreneurs 32:44 How AI Is Redefining the Idea of Scale   Links Connect with  John Sampogna: LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnsampogna/ Website: https://www.wondersauce.com/   Connect with Alex Raymond: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/afraymond/ Website: https://amplifyam.com/ HiveCast.fm is a proud sponsor of The Conscious Entrepreneur Podcast. Welcome to the Savvy Dentist Podcast Summer Series. To ensure you are motivated and ready to hit 2025 running, the team have gone back through the archives and found snippets of different episodes of different shows and we are stitching them together around a particular theme. The theme for this particular episode is Smart Marketing for Dental Practices. Marketing is one of those areas that most dentists know they need to activate, but really never quite master. The thing about marketing is it is a bit like dentistry in the sense that there's certainly some art to it, but there's a lot of science to it as well. Many dentists feel that marketing is this dark black box. It's just like any skill that you can learn it, you can master it, and you can develop and implement it into your own practice with great success. We say here at Savvy Dentist that the best marketer always wins. So in this episode, we want to introduce you to some of the concepts to take your marketing to a new level with your business because marketing is that first domino that needs to fall. We need to have patient flow before we can ever have success. And patient flow is a function of marketing. In this episode our list of guest are specialists in marketing and they discuss marketing in terms of patient acquisition, patient retention, patient reactivation and what it means to have smart-marketing in your practice. From Google ads that work ... to how you can get comfortable with social media.  Our goal with this Summer Series is to motivate you so that after your Summer break you can kick-start your 2025 marketing in a more strategic way and implement some of the tactics and strategies that we share with you in this particular episode.
