Founding partner of Black Flannel Brewing & Distilling Company, Chris Kesler, first tried his hand at homebrewing the same month he turned 50-years-old. After quickly falling in love with brewing, he joined as many local and statewide brewing associations as he could and eventually entered a New England IPA into a Make the Cut home brewing contest. His beer, out of over 200 entries, was awarded 2nd place and he was hooked on brewing. As he decided to dive deeper into the craft beer industry, Kesler determined that he wanted to hire brewers and focus his attention on the business side of the industry. He enrolled in the University of Vermont's Business of Craft Beer Certificate Program in 2018. Kesler was already a successful entrepreneur with a web, graphic design, and marketing business, so launching a brewery wasn't too far fetched. His plans to launch Black Flannel Brewing were a bit delayed because of the Coronavirus Pandemic, but he finally opened the doors in 2020. Listen in to this episode of I Built This Brewery as UVM Business of Craft Beer Program Director Gregory Dunkling talks with Chris about his vision for Black Flannel Brewing and Distilling Company and what he's learned along the way.I Built This Brewery Podcast, sponsored by the University of Vermont's Business of Craft Beer Program, is a show where brewery owners from across the country share their stories of how and why they started a brewery. We explore their backgrounds before beer, the adventures of opening a brewery, and garner their best piece of advice for future brewery owners.Share in the conversation with UVM's Business of Craft Beer Alumni:FacebookInstagramTwitter
The Burlington Brewers Festival is back at Waterfront Park this weekend, and Kurt and Anthony spoke with two people involved in one of the Champlain Valley's most popular events.
Chris Kesler like many has a job. And still like many he also has a "side hustle"; an idea turned project turned small business on the side. What separates Chris from the crowd is that with only his 3rd year in the market his business Badflag.com is projected to eclipse over 1 million dollars in sales. Not bad for a "side hustle" right? With calluses earned through old fashion hard work in Montana to boardrooms of top software companies Chris shares how this all came to be. The ups and downs, mindset, and lessons learned the hard way. There are no excuses and there is always a way with Kesler.Check it out! Download. Subscribe. Follow.IG: @valemedia.ut

Engaging students in learning can be challenging, but once we figure out how to do it, we can make a significant impact on how kids learn and think about education. Highly engaging activities can make learning meaningful and fun!On today’s show, I sit down with Chris Kesler from Kesler Science to discuss the impact of highly engaging teaching. Chris shares his story and background that have led to creating content that wows and amazes teachers and students all over the globe. If I can get you or almost trick you into having fun and in an engaging experience without you thinking that you are learning about science, then I have won. I have won the day. You are learning and having fun. ~Chris KeslerWhen I asked Chris about his popular escape rooms. He had a lot to say. You’re instantly engaged within the first 45 seconds of class. Kids love it. And they are talking about science, and they don’t even realize it. That’s the best part. ~Chris KeslerWe also discussed the value of turning students onto learning. If we can make learning fun and meaningful, they are more likely to engage, and this is when the magic happens.I was disengaged as a kid and uninterested. When I got into the classroom as a teacher, I was like I'm after THAT kid. Because I know who that is. I know what that kid looks like. And that's the kid I'm going to attack, and that's the one I'm going to get. ~Chris KeslerGotta love that guy!Until next time,Sweet dreams!Links Mentioned in the Show:Kesler ScienceKesler Escape RoomsKesler Science Professional Learning Network Makerspace Moments in Literature
