Elena needs an honest Smarterqueue review by someone who has used many other social media tools. You see, Elena has used several social media management tools in the past. In fact, at any given time she uses 1-3 tools to get the results that she needs for her business. However, this year she wants to get that one social media management software that can do all the things. She's just tired of jumping through all the hoops every week to track her social media channels. Let me know if you are experiencing these challenges. You would like the ability to batch 30-90 days of content in a single dayScheduling several weeks of mixed content is important for youIt's impossible to find a single scheduler that does it allOne of your biggest struggles is scheduling GIFs If only there was a social media scheduler that has the ability to handle several media types across 5-7 platforms. In this post, you'll learn how you can become unbelievably productive using just one social media software. Social Media Statistics I don't know about you but it seems like social media is here to stay. Every time Facebook or Instagram goes down for a day or a short while. I keep hoping that now the rest of us can get on with our lives. According to the latest figures from Smart Insights, there are now 4.62 billion people using social media. The average time spent on social media daily is 2 hours and 27 minutes. TikTok continues to be the fastest-growing social media platform with a growth rate of 105% in 2 years. However, Facebook and Instagram continue to be in 1st and 2nd place according to Sprout Social. Did you know that Facebook Messenger is on track to hit 3 billion users by the end of this year? When it comes to engagement Instagram get 6 times more engagement compared to Facebook. Over 44% of people shop for products on Instagram every week. Let's not forget LinkedIn whose ad revenue recently exceeded $1 billion. When compared to LinkedIn, Twitter's ad revenue rose to $1.284 billion in Q3 last year. Despite the shopping success on Instagram, shoppers on Pinterest have 85% larger shopping carts compared to any other platform. Retargeting ads are what most marketers use in their Facebook and Instagram strategies. With all these exciting social media statistics let's look at how you too can gain eyeballs on your content. Smarterqueue Review I recently found out about Smarterqueue so I decided to take it for a spin to see if it's any good. For this free trial, I connected 5 social profiles. It would help if you have an existing social media presence. Founded in 2016 by Claude Schneider, Smarterqueue can easily be considered as one of the newer kids on the block. Their website receives close to 500,000 visits every month and their rating on G2 is 4.6 out of 5. So, there must be something good that the team at Smarterqueue are doing right. In case you are still wondering, Smarterqueue is a social media management tool that caters to many social media profiles. Let's look at the features and pricing in more detail. Smarterqueue Pricing There are 4 different pricing plans available. These include Solo, Business, Agency and Custom. You'll notice that the first feature that's unique about Smarterqueue when it comes to pricing is that you can customise your own plan. This is such a huge selling point because you can design the plan to match your business. Other paid schedulers force you to fit into their plans. In some circumstances, you have to pay double the price just for one extra social media account with other software. Unfortunately, there isn't a free plan available to use. Content Curation Have you ever wanted the ability to share amazing content from other people on social media? Well, now you can with the help of Smarterqueue's content curation portal. After signing up and logging in to Smarterqueue simply c...

The Independent School Podcast with Juliet Corbett

In this episode, the final of series 2, I explore how technology tools can boost your efficiency. I identify five invaluable tools that have helped me be more productive over the past year. The first tool I have discovered is Calendly, a diary management website that helps me to set up meetings with other people seamlessly, ideal for schools. Calendly allows me to set up various types of meeting online that I then send to people via a link that lets them book a meeting directly into my diary. The second tool, Canva, a simple to use graphic design platform, allows me to create engaging social media images, PowerPoint presentations and short brochures. The third tool, SmarterQueue, is a social media scheduler that helps me schedule content on LinkedIn and Twitter, and is particularly good for evergreen content such as promotion for alumni magazine articles that don't date. The fourth tool, Trello, is a project management tool that is incredibly useful for defining workflow. Finally the fifth tool, Bonjoro, is a platform that allows me to send video messages. This is an effective way of relaying information to people without text-heavy emails, ideal for keeping in touch with with major gift prospects between meetings.I close the episode by briefly covering tools that help with the creation of this podcast including Zencastr, Descript and Buzzsprout.Episode HighlightsIntroducing the need for efficiency tools (01:57)Efficiency tool 1: Calendly (03:35)Efficiency tool 2: Canva (05:40)Efficiency tool 3: SmarterQueue (06:46)Efficiency tool 4: Trello (08:37)Efficiency tool 5: Bonjoro (10:05)References and resourcesTool 1: Calendly: www.calendly.com Tool 2: Canva: www.canva.com Tool 3: SmarterQueue: www.smarterqueue.com Tool 4: Trello: www.trello.com Tool 5: Bonjoro: www.bonjoro.comBonus podcast tools: Zencastr: www.zencastr.com Descript: www.descript.com Buzzsprout: www.buzzsprout.com With thanks to Simon Brett and Matt Barber for their invaluable in help bringing Series 2 of The Independent School Podcast to you.Explore the rest of Series 2: www.consultjuliet.co.uk/podcast Sign up to Juliet Corbett's newsletter at www.consultjuliet.co.uk/signup to find out about upcoming School Fundraising Q&A sessionsFind out more about Juliet Corbett's work and discover a host of free resources at www.consultjuliet.co.ukThank you so much for listening to The Independent School Podcast. Christine is a photographer, story strategist & confidence catalyst and is based in Texas. One of the reasons I hear from some people that stop them from going live - is that they just don't like the way they look. A lot of people don't like the way they sound either. But that doesn't have to be the case. Christine and I had an amazing conversation about confidence and learning not to just to be ok with the way you look on camera - but love it. Does that seem far fetched to you? It doesn't have to be! Show notes: iag.me/36 (https://iag.me/36) We Cover...How did you end up doing what you’re doing? Have you done much in the way of live video before? You spend a lot of time behind the camera. Do you get nervous before getting in front of the camera? Any tips? Have you experienced any video or camera disasters? What did you learn from them? One of the big issues people have is not liking the way they look or sound on video. How big an issue do you think this is? Is there anything we can do about it? What are your top tips in learning how to like the way we look on camera? In this episode of The Profitable Practice Podcast, I talk about how we create 10+ pieces of marketing content for all the platforms from just a single piece of original content. FRESH CONTENT TO SHARE IS A MUST THESE DAYS… LET'S DO IT THE EASY WAY Social media is here to stay. AND it makes marketing a heckuva lot easier for us little guys. That said, you do need to know how to put it to work for you, or you'll be lost in overwhelm trying to “make content” all day long and never actually get to see a client or patient. Knowing how to create content efficiently is part of the essential business foundation of your practice. We cover it in depth in Pillar 2 of the MAXIMized Practitioner Program. Today, I wanted to give you a sneak peek into the marketing processes of my own clinic when it comes to social media. Here's 3 different pieces of original content and how to splinter them out: recorded video, written blog posts, and live streams. Tune in below! In This Episode: [1:03] Intro to the episode… how to become a social media machine AND avoid overwhelm. [3:19] How we leverage our content creation every single time – starting with a single 15-20 min audio/video recording create 10+ pieces of content. [5:04] You do not need to create new content for every post. Less than 5% of people following you are going to see any single piece of content you create. So it makes sense to share it multiple times in multiple ways and spread your message further. [5:45] How to do this if you are a blogger… and prefer writing first. [7:07] Always download your live video onto your phone! You can use this as starter content to splinter up and re-format for elsewhere too. [8:43] Setting up Smarterqueue as a social media scheduling software – it automatically recycles evergreen posts for you! [10:31] The point is, there has to be a clear BUSINESS reason for why you are doing it. It has to serve YOU and YOUR AUDIENCE. Don't waste your time putting out content that doesn't funnel people back into your business. That means revenues and appointment bookings. [13:20] Re-cap, wrap up of this episode. [14:14] If you are overwhelmed – don't give up… we've created a program where you can hire us for 3 months to help you get all this set up for you! info@themaximmovement.com or on Instagram @AndreaMaximND “Quite frankly, we are all about imperfect action. It doesn't matter if everything doesn't fit perfectly, the point is that you're getting it done, putting git out there, and as you get comfortable with the process you can start reformatting it so it will fit the other platforms.” — Andrea Maxim, ND & Business Coach Episode Resources: How To Use FB Audiences To Grow Your Practice [Ep. #126] Smarterqueue – Our preferred social media scheduling tool   After You've Listened To The Episode, I Would **LOVE** To Hear Your Thoughts: Have you spiced your content out in this way before? If you've done something different, please share! One of the best parts of any episode I record is getting to discuss the topic with you! So let me know your thoughts wherever you get social on the net, IG, FB, in the comments below – wherever! Thank you for listening and learning with me on the podcast this week. Your commitment to improving the business aspect of your practice matters... Not only to you, but to your future patients and practitioners who want to be working with you. #083: New Strategies For Making Money with Affiliates

Today I am talking about new strategies for making money with affiliates with Chelsea Clarke. Chelsea, founder of the website, HerPaperRoute, helps entrepreneurs grow their businesses through affiliate sales.  We talk about knowing your audience, talking to your audience, and selling them products that are useful for making their lives better.  If you want to know more about affiliate sales and how to make the most of them, this is the episode for you! Profitable Niches  You may have heard that “the riches are in the niches.” If that's true, what niche should you choose? Chelsea says that any niche can be made profitable with affiliates. The one defining factor is you. 3 things must be true for you to make money from affiliate marketing Passion -- You have to be genuinely interested in the topic you'll be writing about Education/Experience -- What are you really good at or you have an educational background in? Product -- This product should make sense for your audience and your topic Do not get into a niche just because you've heard it makes a lot of money. You need to pick your field based on what you love, what you know about it, and what you can offer to your audience.  How To Find Good Products There are literally millions of affiliate possibilities out there. How do you choose the ones that will fit best with your niche? First, you want to choose a high-commission product. Something that gives you $2 per sale is a waste of time when you think about how much time you're spending building relationships with your audience to offer them products.  Promote something that is going to pay you more like $40 per sale.  Chelsea doesn't promote Amazon products as much because their commissions are typically so low for her. However, there are people that make thousands of dollars a month from Amazon affiliates.  Amazon affiliates are a bit different than others in that they pay a commission to you for anything your audience purchases within 24 hours of clicking through your link.  If there's a brand you want to work with, you can go straight to them and pitch yourself. Many companies want to work directly with bloggers. Reaching Out To Brands  There are two ways to reach out to brands successfully to build an affiliate relationship. You can go to their website, find a contact, and send an email about how you love their product and want to review it. You can ask about setting a deal up.  Another way you can do it is to join the affiliate program first. Once you have the affiliate program manager's contact information, you can reach out to them.  Chelsea doesn't work for a commission of 10% or less unless it's a very expensive product.  If she can't negotiate for a higher commission, she knows it's not the right product for her at that time.  There have been a few times when Chelsea will take a lower commission because she knows the product is interesting and will be helpful to her audience.  How To Build An Audience You Can Sell To  Chelsea works mainly through email. She does everything herself personally, answering all the questions that come into her inbox.  In the very first email Chelsea's audience receives, she asks them to respond with where she can follow them on social media.  When you connect with someone on their social media channels, you get to know them and they get to know you, because chances are they're going to follow you back. Now you have a whole new group of people rooting for you and giving you new business.  This is successful because it opens up a one-on-one conversation, where the audience gets to know the face behind the company.  The very first people who hear about Chelsea's sales are the people on her email list.  Using Social Media to Market Pinterest is Chelsea's favorite social media marketing tool. Taking the time to target the right keywords and getting your pins to show up higher in search will result in your traffic growing on its own.  For newer bloggers who aren't ranking much on Google yet, Pinterest can be the key to blog growth and getting your message out there to more people. Pinterest is a different type of SEO. You want to focus on appropriate keywords, pin to the right boards, and pin as much as possible.  You want your content to get out there.  Pinterest is a digital wall of billboard advertisements. The higher you can get, the better for your traffic.  Where To Focus, Where To Outsource  Chelsea wants to create her own content and create her own weekly emails. Those are the 2 areas she doesn't outsource. But having someone for upkeep on social media is very helpful.  Your biggest expense is your time. If you feel like you need more time, outsource things that allow you to have more time to create content and focus on what's important to you.  Most Valuable Blogging Tool  Chelsea has four tools that she cannot live without: SmarterQueue for automated Facebook and Twitter posts  ConvertKit for email marketing  MiloTree for growing subscribers  Tailwind for Pinterest auto-scheduling  Chelsea's Advice for Bloggers Stay focused on your goals. Don't expect those around you to support you at first. If someone else isn't an entrepreneur, they won't understand what you're doing.  You have to work at your goals even if you aren't seeing the fruits of your labor right away. Focus on helping others in a way only you can. If you want to know more about Chelsea and the free resources she offers, go to HerPaperRoute.  What Type of Online Entrepreneur is MiloTree Right For? Pinterest will help you grow your traffic, and traffic = affiliate sales. Reasons Why Facebook Will Reject an Ad Facebook Ads Not Delivering Reason #1: If your ad has been rejected, there are a lot of reasons why that may be. Here are the most common ones. The ad features or promotes tobacco, drugs and drug-related products (including pharmaceuticals) The ad promotes unreliable and/or unsafe diet supplements (what qualifies as unreliable and unsafe is unfortunately up to Facebook and their discretion) The ad is selling weapons, ammunition, and explosives The ad features sensational, excessively violent content The ad promises counterfeit or fake documents, such as degrees, passports, or immigration papers Malware and spyware, surveillance equipment (spy cams and cell phone trackers, for example) can be found in the ad The ad uses unlikely or exaggerated “before-and-after” images to promote weight loss (ads for health and weight loss products must be targeted to people over 18 years old) The ad features “Adult Content” Unrealistic claims or get ‘get rich quick’ schemes What You Can Do To Fix It Make the requested changes For example, if Facebook cited your graphic as being inappropriate, simply change the image out to one that fits their standards. Once you’ve made your changes and saved the ad, it will automatically be resubmitted to Facebook for further review and (hopefully) approval. Appeal the disapproval Everyone makes mistakes, especially Facebook. So if you feel that your ad has been unfrairly disapproved, you can always submit an appeal through Facebook. Facebook Ads Not Delivering Reason #2: Your Image Violates the 20% Rule When it comes to advertising on Facebook, there are a lot of rules; some of them are written down and many more are not. Among these hundreds of written and unwritten rules; one of the most forgettable, yet vitally important ones, is the 20% Text Rule. What is the 20% Text Rule? Well, according to Facebook standards, the images in your ads cannot exceed an image to text ratio of 20% – this includes logos, slogans, watermarks, and any other text that may be on your image. To put it another way, you can’t have an image for your ad that’s a giant wall of text. If your image is deemed OK, that means you have the right amount of text and your reach will not be restricted. Image Text Check Upload an image to determine how much text is in your ad image. If the proportion of text to image is too high, your ad may not reach its full audience. Facebook Says: We make exceptions for certain kinds of products being advertised.https://www.facebook.com/ads/tools/text_overlay  Facebook Ads Not Delivering Reason #3: Your Ad Is Stuck In Review As we mentioned above, each ad is reviewed by Facebook’s team to verify that it meets the advertising Terms of Service. This process is handled by a combination of Facebook’s automated review systems and manual reviews done by members of their support staff. If we check Facebook’s documentation, they state that most ads are reviewed in 24-hours, “although in some cases it may take longer.” This means that your ads can get stuck in the review process for longer than that time frame (especially in Q4 when ad load is high). What You Can Do To Fix It As Facebook mentions, an easy way to prevent this from interfering with your deadlines is to schedule the ad as far in advance as you can. This gives you a few days grace in case your ad needs to be sent to Facebook’s team for manual approval. You can schedule your campaign in advance by selecting the specific start and end date during campaign creation. Facebook Ads Not Delivering Reason #4: Your Ad Is Stuck In Review As we mentioned above, each ad is reviewed by Facebook’s team to verify that it meets the advertising Terms of Service. This process is handled by a combination of Facebook’s automated review systems and manual reviews done by members of their support staff. If we check Facebook’s documentation, they state that *most* ads are reviewed in 24-hours, “although in some cases it may take longer.” This means that your ads can get stuck in the review process for longer than that time frame (especially in Q4 when ad load is high). In addition, do not edit your ads until the approval has gone through since edits start the review process over again. Facebook Ads Not Delivering Reason #5: Your Ad Is Low Quality In an effort to stop spammy and ‘clickbait’ ads, Facebook has started to disapprove and reduce the reach of ads they deem as low quality. They’ve separated these low-quality types of ads into 3 main categories: Engagement Bait, Withholding Information, and Sensationalized Language. Engagement Bait We’ve all seen ads that ask for people to ‘like and tag your friend’ for one reason or another. What you might not know is that this is against Facebook policy, and can impact the delivery of your ads. Facebook defines these as “Ads with spammy content asking people to engage with it in specific ways, such as requesting likes, comments, and shares” as in the example below. Withholding Information You might have seen headlines like, “This ONE WEIRD TRICK cures cancer – doctors hate it!” which indicates that you won’t find out what the weird trick is until you clicked. This is considered withholding information and will also reduce delivery, or get you out-right disapproved. Sensationalist language  Facebook states that sensationalist language is “Ads that use exaggerated headlines or command a reaction from people but don’t deliver on the landing page”. If you’re claiming that Prunes are THE MOST POWERFUL weight loss hack KNOWN TO MAN!!!!!!, chances are you’re going to get reduced delivery. Facebook also goes on to state that we should expect the following about low-quality ads: Individual ads with low-quality attributes will see reduced distribution in our ad auction, or will be disapproved. This applies to all advertisers, but since we tend to see more of these characteristics in ads related to media, entertainment, politics or issues of national importance, they may be impacted more. If you’re in one of the categories above, be careful to give your copy extra scrutiny before publication. What You Can Do To Fix It The answer to this is very simple: Avoid any and all of the language! Marketing Magic
#013: How to Execute a Content Marketing Plan Well

Marketing Magic

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 9, 2018 25:09

Content Marketing. Either you already have a plan in place, you're actively avoiding it, or you have no idea where to begin. If you've been online for any length of time, you'll know that content marketing is the currency of digital marketing and what makes the Internet go round. It's why there are 300 million + blogs active in the world and why SEO (another topic for another day) is so important. But there are a few problems with content marketing: >> It's too easy to get caught up in the creation and forget to make it beneficial to your business. >> With so many experts teaching online businesses "how" to do content marketing, it's easy to get paralyzed and quit before you get started. If you're going to have a content marketing strategy that works you need to do this: 1. Get crystal clear on what your content marketing should look like. Do you want to create cat videos with voiceovers? A top 10 list each week? A book review? A video interview series? A stream of conscious audio about your expert topic? The sky is the limit. The key to creating content is to make it A) FUN and B) something you'll enjoy creating, not something everyone else tells you to do. 2. Know why you want to create content. Don't EVER do something because someone tells you to do something. (Myself included). The thing about being an entrepreneur is that YOU are the boss and you make the shots. My goal (and ostensibly the goal of other consultants and strategists you surround yourself with) is to help you make informed decisions and strategic moves that equal growth and increased revenue in your business. But, you have to also see that whatever you do WILL make sense for your business and is in alignment with who you are as an entrepreneur. 3. Who the content you want to create intended for? The more you niche down for a specific type of person in a specific business with a specific problem, the more likely you'll find your rabid fans and they'll want to work with you/purchase what you're offering. 4. How do you want to create content? This comes down to what medium do you want to use? This is tied to #1 above, but this is where you decide what platform/format are you going to deliver this on. Ideas of content marketing examples: - A blog (obvs) - A podcast - A video series - A weekly Facebook Live show - An audio clip - An interview series - List format - Book reviews - A weekly local event - Video-based tutorials - Visual marketing (through Instagram) - Free wallpaper (backgrounds) for phones (especially if you're a designer, funny or motivational biz) - Music playlists - Slideshare - Conferences - Summits - A guide - A magazine - A book - Your own column - Teach classes - Webinars - Online course - Education center - Ebook - Downloadable PDF - Infographics The point is to pick something that feels like you and will be fun to execute, or it'll never happen. THEN put up blinders and don't worry about what everyone else is doing in your market. And write it down. It gives it more credibility in your mind that you're going to do this. 5. Is someone already doing this exact thing in your market? If they are, it's OK, but you have to either do it slightly different or better to stand out and make content marketing in this same fashion actually benefit your business. A book I can't recommend highly enough: 10X Marketing Formula by Garrett Moon (this is my Amazon affiliate link). And if you're on Kindle Unlimited, it's FREE! 6. Find topics that are resonating with people online. Look at the comments section, look at Quora, hop in Facebook groups. Anytime a question is asked, it means that someone wasn't clear or thorough enough, and that's your opening. What a different spin on what's out there and a favorite? How can you be so thorough in how you help your audience that's different than everyone else. Something most people don't realize about marketing is the more helpful you are and specific in your responses, the more desperate people will be to work with you. There's a funny thing that happens in our brain. Instead of greedily absorbing everything you put out and walking away feeling like their problem is solved, the person consuming your content will be flabbergasted that you're THIS helpful and their brain tells them: If they are giving me this much stuff for free, think of how much more amazing it would be to actually work with them. You are not giving it all way. A good resource on this and knowing how to operate in a space where you're not in competition with anyone else is Blue Ocean Strategy by W. Chan Kim.  7. Create a marketing strategy plan that works for you. Basically, I'm telling you my favorite mantra: You do you. This means if you're type A and like to operate with a color-coded calendar that's 6 weeks ahead of your production schedule, then you're going to want to find a system that does that exact thing so you are successful. But some of you are going to want to write down ideas on sticky notes or on your phone and create the night before and cross your fingers that you remembered to do everything. (While not optimal, it gets the job done.) The key here is to set up a system (yes, something that's repeatable) and consistently follow it. If you can't be consistent, then don't even bother doing it. I'm not even kidding. There's too much. 8. Freaking promote your content people.  Most people who create content have zero strategies for how to promote it and nobody knows the content exists.  Here are seven ideas for how to promote what you're creating: - Brainstorm all the places you could share content. (I also call this brain dump or word vomit often). *Make a note if there are restrictions on when and where you can share content (cough, cough Facebook groups) - Look at your best channels for visibility. Where are you already doing a great job at being out there? - Commit to sharing it in at least 5 places each time you create something. Most of us stop at our email list, FB biz page and sometimes a friend. - Start a spreadsheet or a tracking system to track your content. Make a note of the title, theme, keywords, links, etc. so you can refer it on other posts or when topics come up, etc. and it's easy to access it. You can also merge related content into an epic optin, etc. - Make sure Google Analytics is set up on your site so you know what's working. Most places you can add it through Google Tag Manager in the head of your website, through a plugin if you're on Wordpress like me, or in the setup section of WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) website builders. It's the best free website analytics tool out there. - Schedule it to be shared on channels that repeat with tools like Smarterqueue, MeetEdgar, Hootsuite, Pinterest. Content strategy is amazing for your business because once you post it, it's searchable and can be found over and over again to new people. You can always and update it and add to it at any time. It's also what makes SEO happen for your business, and allows you to get organic traffic to your site for free. Now go get into action and commit do something sustainable.

What time management tips can you give to a teacher seller? We both struggle with time management, but we have learned a few things over the years that has helped. Here are our tips for time management, and some awesome tips from our group! Disclaimer: Some of the links in this post are affiliate links. You don't have to purchase them through our links, but if you do, it helps us pay for the costs of the podcast and blog!  Let it go Seriously, just LET IT GO! If it's not important to your business, don't do it. If you don't see a return on your time investment, it's time to let it go. It's hard for us to let things go when others are doing them, but it's so important to focus on the things that help your business the most. Letting things go will free up a lot of precious time. Automate the Less Important Things Over the last year, we've found ourselves automating a lot more. This helps us free up valuable time for the things we can't automate, like product creation. We both use a tool called SmarterQueue to automate posts that get sent to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. We don't use Twitter much, but we rely on this tool for a lot of what we do on Facebook. With Facebook organic reach being down, we didn't think it was worth as much time as it used to be to do the posts ourselves. I use it to automate discussion questions in my Facebook groups, which used to take a substantial amount of time. Starting a Facebook group is a huge commitment. Angie uses it to automate her Facebook page queue, so that she has quality content going out all the time, even when she doesn't have time to post. We both use the Solo plan, which is $19.99/month. I used Meet Edgar before, but it's way more expensive for the same exact service. I actually helped beta test SmarterQueue a couple of years ago, so I got the chance to have an impact on the features they developed! [caption id="attachment_780" align="aligncenter" width="257"] Angie's SmarterQueue Post Categories OPC = Other People's Content[/caption]   [caption id="attachment_779" align="aligncenter" width="662"] Angie's SmarterQueue Schedule[/caption]   We also automate our Pinterest pinning. Check out our Pinterest accounts: April, Angie. Can you tell that we're not there? Angie uses Tailwind, which is a service that is approved by Pinterest. She ultimately wants more control over what's going out. Tailwind allows you to bulk schedule, and she schedules an entire month of content in just a couple of hours. Tribes & board lists are the most powerful features of Tailwind. Tribes allow you to have a "pinning party" with people that have similar content to yours. It allows you to create a group of like-minded sellers share your pins with them, then pin their pins that they've shared. Board lists let you make lists of boards to pin to, and then you can bulk add the same pin to go to each board at a specific time interval. We’ve all heard that we’re supposed to be building an audience online. Even if we don’t want traditional success, many of us put our work online to share our creativity and use it to connect with others. But building all these “platforms” takes time and energy away from the creative process. It can make us discouraged as we compare ourselves to others and frustrated that we don’t have time to do all the things we’re “supposed” to be doing. So how do we balance social media and the creative life? That’s what we’re talking about in this episode. You can now support Chasing Creative on Patreon! Resources We Mentioned Ashley loves Alexandra Franzen, who is not on social media and doesn’t seem to actively build a platform anywhere. It can be done! Rachel Meeks from Small Notebook hasn’t blogged in years and Abbie still goes back and re-reads her blog from time to time. Hootsuite does post to Instagram now! So does Buffer, but Abbie’s favorite remains Later.com. Ashley recommends finding tools that recycle past updates for you on social media. She recommends RecurPost and SmarterQueue for Twitter as free or close-to-free options, and Board Booster for Pinterest, but she doesn’t remember how much it costs. Swinging in a full 15 days late (but better than never as I’m constantly told), we bring you our, no wait, THE definitive guide to the trends you need to look out for in 2018 in the general online marketing, branding, entrepreneur and business space (yes, all of those!).   Forget about the past 14 days. They were nonsense. 2018 starts today!   We also dive into a classic in the Content Report this week with the epic DotComSecrets by Russell Brunson. An entire playbook for delivering great, automated content and value to your audience. We also break the trend a little this week and discuss a tool rather than a piece of content. I know, we’re pretty flexible like that. SmarterQueue is an amazing new social scheduling tool on the block that completely blows Buffer and Meet Edgar out the water.   We mention in the show that we’re in no way affiliated with the product, but after very careful consideration, now we are. And that’s for two reasons. The first is that we truly believe in it (and use it). The second is that by doing so we can offer you an incredibly sweet deal - a full free 30-day trial instead of the bog standard 2 weeks for any old whosit off the street! Don’t get on with it at the end, just stop using it. But we think you’re definitely gonna love the features and flexibility of it!   So give SmarterQueue a full 30-day trial and see how much it can help the social side of your business!     With that said...   Let’s get to it!

How to Get More Followers on Social Media

Create If Writing

Want to know how to get more followers on social media? I've got you covered. This posts is the third in a series on Why Your Audience Isn't Growing. You should also read Why Your Social Media Isn't Growing to see mistakes you might be making! One of the biggest questions that people have about social media is how to get followers. No matter how many you currently have, we all seem to want to get MORE followers. And more. We can never have enough!! I especially know what it feels like to be just starting out where you have under 1000 followers. I remember my first year on Twitter with something like 300 followers, feeling like I would never grow. Getting followers feels like an impossible task. You need more followers so that you have some kind of social proof, so that more people will follow you, but no one will follow you without more followers. And I have found it to be true that once you pass a certain benchmark of at least a thousand people, it gets easier to grow. Getting followers is kind of like a chicken and egg problem. So let's talk about how you get more followers on social media, especially when you are just starting out OR when you are stuck. Note: This post contains affiliate links! That means at no extra cost to you, I will receive a commission if you purchase something through some of the links I share.  Listen to How to Get More Followers on Social Media You can listen right here or on iTunes, Stitcher, or your favorite podcast app. Or keep reading below! HOW TO GET MORE FOLLOWERS ON SOCIAL MEDIA Before we even get into the specifics of how, I want to talk about the WHY. Specifically YOUR why. If you are not super clear on your why, you are going to struggle to grow your social media presence, your blog, and your audience. Your WHY is your purpose. My background is in writing, so I like to think of it as your theme. A theme isn't the beginning-middle-end of a story, but the ideas that run throughout, tying the story together. For an example, my WHY is that I want to help writers and bloggers build an online platform without being smarmy. I love helping people connect with their perfect audience online, using all the tools and strategies that smart marketers use, but without the icky salesy tactics. Knowing my WHY means that if I have a post idea that doesn't fit into that overarching purpose, I don't write it. Or I write it in a guest post somewhere else. Or on my other blog. If you aren't clear on your why or the audience you serve, you are going to really struggle! Take some time to write out a clear statement of purpose. This should include who you serve, how you serve them, and what is unique to you. HOW TO GET FOLLOWERS THROUGH CONTENT Once you have your why in place, you can both create and curate content that fits under the umbrella of your why. In the second post of this series I talked about curating content, which is essentially the way that you share other people's content on social media. I want to go even deeper on this idea of sharing relevant content. Consider your perfect audience (see my series on how to find your perfect audience) when you are coming up with content ideas to create. In the same way, think about your target audience when you are choosing Tweets to Retweet or pins to share on Pinterest. Ask yourself: Does this serve my perfect audience?  When you share awesome content (your own and others), a really cool thing happens. People start to see you as an authority. You become their go-to for news, trends, and resources. You save them the time so they don't have to research all the latest trends or news. Sharing quality content will help you get more followers that are truly interested in you. That's why it's really important to share relevant content. PRO TIP: On Facebook in particular, you need to not only consider the topic, but the kind of content. If you keep sharing viral videos because they get great reach, but you don't CREATE video, this may hurt you in the long run. When you share your blog posts as links, your page is used to doing well with video, so the reach may diminish for link posts. An active page doesn't help you if it's active for video, but you are trying to drive traffic to a blog. Examples of People Sharing Consistent Quality Content Here are a few of my favorite creator/curators in different niches: The Sell More Books Show - Each week Bryan Cohen and Jim Kukral share five big newsworthy items and three tips related to book writing and marketing, especially in the indie space. I want to know what's going on, so I follow their podcast, follow them on Twitter, and like their Facebook page so hopefully I won't miss anything. Jenn's Trends - Jenn Herman has a blog focused on social media, specifically Instagram. Even though I've temporarily told Instagram, "it's not me, it's you," I can count on her to share big news I need to know about social media. I joined her Facebook group to keep up with what she's sharing about social media. Social Media Examiner - While this seems like a no-brainer because this is a hugely established site, I love Michael Stelzner's curiosity and passion for social media. (You can hear this particularly through his podcast, where he seems genuinely excited and interested in the guests.) HOW TO GET FOLLOWERS THROUGH CONTENT-SHARING TOOLS Sharing consistent quality content is HARD. Especially when you are also creating content too. I really rock at creating content. I love it. Give me content creation all. day. long. And while I shared in my post on why your blog isn't growing that it's not just about promotion, YOU HAVE TO PROMOTE your awesome content. If you are trying to curate good content from other people as well (which you should do), then you have even more posts to share and schedule. Promotion is a lot of work, so you'll want some tools to help with that. Note: Don't forget that you can't JUST promote. You have to engage with people as well! Read the previous post in this series for ideas.  So what tools can help you get followers on social media through content sharing? My favorite tools to share quality content- Quuu - (Facebook & Twitter) This app will generate and autopost relevant content to your Twitter or Facebook feeds for you. Like most apps, you can use some features with the free version and then upgrade. I honestly don't LOVE pushing out content that I haven't seen first. But they have a great vetting process for the posts that they take, so you will get great content! Quuu Promote - This is a paid part of Quuu where you can submit posts to go in the Quuu feed. I've seen really great results from putting my posts in here. This means that when other people sign up for Quuu and autopost links, YOUR links go in the pool to be shared on a particular topic. This has resulted in a good amount of traffic and also shown me what content is working well. Check out these two posts, both about email marketing. (For reference, another promoted post I did had 17 clicks from only 80 shares, as compared to the 300-something shares for only 8 clicks.) They don't accept posts automatically, but look through each. Promo Republic - I love this social sharing tool because it comes with templates and stock photos that you can edit (think: Canva), but you don't have to LEAVE the platform to share them. Instead, you create them right there, write your text for a post, then choose to share on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or Instagram (reminder, not autoschedule, since Insta doesn't allow that). They share trends that may help you come up with post ideas and you can create a queue of content that will post at optimal times. Get this on AppSumo for a limited time with my referral code (that gives me credit at no extra cost to you) HERE.  Tailwind - I love this app for Pinterest! (It also does Instagram, but I don't use it for that.) It has one of the easiest scheduling dashboards I've used. You can click a button to shuffle them all, choose the best time slots you want per day, how many shares per day, and even join tribes of other Pinterest users to promote each other's content. If you use my affiliate link, you'll get a free month to try it out! Learn how to use tribes and where to find them Hootsuite - I have been using Hootsuite maybe longer than any other social tool! It's very similar to Buffer, which a lot of people like, but because I have never seen a reason to switch! Choose which one works for you. You can manage up to three accounts with Hootsuite's free plan, including Facebook (page, group, or profile), LinkedIn, and Twitter. I create Twitter lists within Hootsuite and then can easily go in and schedule content on a weekly basis. (Though I've been HORRIBLE about this lately.) It clears the clutter when you just want to pop in and see what's going on over on Twitter. This makes it easier to get in, engage and schedule, then get out without getting lost. How to Use Twitter in 15 Minutes a Day Iconosquare - Iconosquare is NOT a social scheduling platform and is strictly for Instagram. But it's a really helpful tool to manage your followers and to see what content people engage with so that you can create more of the same. You can even track details like which hashtags performed well for you. As with most tools, you can get more when you pay. Social Jukebox - This is a great tool to create a content library (or "jukebox") of evergreen content that get shared again and again over time.  RecurPost - Similar to Social Jukebox, this tool will let you schedule posts to share again and again. If you don't want to pay for Edgar or SmarterQueue, you can use these two together to get the max number of posts without paying.  PRO TIP: Remember to share your own posts with as much gusto and passion as you share other people's posts. This tip comes by way of Paula Rollo of Beauty Through Imperfection and her Facebook Group, Actionable Blogging Tips. HOW TO GET MORE FOLLOWERS THROUGH FOLLOW FOR FOLLOW I know that in the past year, the idea of getting followers by following people brings out the eye rolls. Especially on Instagram, people talk about getting 300 new followers in a day, then losing 294 two days later. (True story.) That's a LOT of people doing it wrong.   The BEST way to follow people to get followers on Instagram and Twitter is to follow people you are actually interested in, interact with them in a way that isn't smarmy (ex: DON'T follow, then tweet at them telling them you followed and asking them to follow back), and then in a few weeks or month, unfollow the people who aren't following you back UNLESS they are stellar content creators and you want to keep following.  Give this practice a little more of a personal touch and a little more time to see it actually work for you. A Note on Facebook I have not mentioned much about growing a Facebook page here. There are a few reasons for this. First, this can be one of the harder platforms to grow. Because of the way the Facebook algorithm works, people often won't see your content. Even huge pages have very little reach on posts. I'll talk more about this in a separate post, because it's a HUGE topic. HOW TO GET MORE FOLLOWERS...SPARINGLY Facebook groups - Many blogger Facebook groups have threads on a weekly or daily basis where you can link to your social profiles and then follow everyone and have them follow you. You really want TARGETED followers, so these don't always work well. But depending on your goals or while you're trying to get past that social proof number, this may really help.  Giveaways - You can definitely grow quickly and with big results using giveaways. But you are more than likely going to end up with people who don't care about you or your content. Particularly if you are giving away money or a gift card to a store. Try to be more targeted to your audience and give a great prize, but one that is specific to writers or moms or your audience.  Ads - You can run Facebook ads to get likes for your page, but this is something I would do sparingly. Facebook seems to drop your reach right after you pay for things to make you think you NEED to pay for things. So, realize this is an option in the ads manager, but don't rely on this.  Remember the Context When You Are Trying to Get Followers! If you are trying to get more followers on social media, don't forget your overall purpose. Think of the kinds of followers you really want and the long-term goals.  Consider all these tips in conjunction with the reasons your social media isn't growing, particularly thinking about the idea that you need to be SOCIAL.  What are YOUR tips for getting more followers on social media? Share in the comments!
