David Kam of Orion Knives joins Bob "The Knife Junkie" DeMarco on Episode 368 of The Knife Junkie Podcast (theknifejunkie.com/368).David started collecting EDC gear including knives in 2017, and began his BladeBanter YouTube knife review channel in 2018, after being an active contributor to other review channels. Once David's knife preferences were crystalized, he created Orion Knives and a premium-feel folder called the Solaris, for less than $100.Fascinated with mechanisms and workmanship, David set out to make knives with a high-level of engineering and design finesse. His Solaris model was an early "enthusiast-designed," China-OEM-produced folder, designed around its button lock/flipper action.Orion recently released the Scorpio, a sweet little clip point EDC with a unique look and build around the same button lock action as the Solaris. In an exciting departure from the button lock flipper setup, David has designed and prototyped a full size frame lock flipper with fuller, opening hole and hawkbill/wharncliffe blade called Cetus. The company's logo features the three stars that make up the belt of Orion, the favorite constellation of his three boys. The company's motto is, "Invest in Your Lifestyle." David Kam is someone who I immediately became smitten with when I happened upon one of his yoga classes a few years ago. His commitment to his craft - currently one of inviting others to develop their holistic wellbeing via movement - is just one of the many things that inspires me about him. We formed a friendship and our conversations over the years have always been expansive and inspiring. We met online, with both of us at other sides of London, and had a wonderful conversation that covered:
David Kam is a yoga teacher and qualified architect. He brings a fresh approach to yoga, by focusing on the transitions instead of the poses. Find out more about this lovely man and his thoughts on movement.
David Kam (@davidkamkw) is a London based yoga teacher and movement artist, advocating play through yoga and mindfulness. Originally from Malaysia, he's now encouraging communities around the world to move more curiously and less seriously. David is a trained architect, with an MA in Dance Performance and is currently studying for a diploma in choreological studies. WE TALK ABOUT The importance of play /// How yoga alone isn't enough for the body /// Evolving as a yoga teacher /// The meaning of pleasure /// Dealing with negative feedback /// Tuning in to intuition /// Teaching as a natural introvert /// Escaping comfort zones /// Teaching from a place of vulnerability and authenticity /// Self-care and self-dare SHOW NOTES Quotes and references can all be found at www.honestlyunbalanced.com THE HOSTS @adamhusler - Drawing from a variety of lives lived off the mat, Adam Husler brings a unique perspective to those who seek more from yoga than making pretty shapes. He offers creative, effective and clearly-sequenced teachings that focus on balancing flexibility and strength; physically and mentally. Educated by globally renown teachers, including Jason Crandell and Michael Stone, Adam specialises in a signature style of Alignment-Based Vinyasa— fuelled by a fascination with anatomy and a desire to ask ‘why?'. Based in London, Adam teaches a robust schedule in one of the worlds top yoga studios, Triyoga, and world leading gym, Equinox. On top of this, Adam leads workshops, trainings and teaches festivals continuously around the world, leaving him with thousands of teaching hours under his belt and plenty of appearances in national and international media. @iamhollyhusler - From belting out original pop tunes at the London O2 stage to 20,000 people, whilst supporting Westlife, to singing healing mantras and playing magical instruments, to seas of sleeping yogis, at events and studios across the globe; Holly's journey has led to a deep desire to help people find conscious connection and their own inner peace.

‘My purpose to break boundaries and remember what the point is of yoga is. Shedding light where you lack awareness.’ Meet David Kam. A Movement Artist, dancer, ex-architect and yoga teacher. Who is a Champion of Changing the way we look at yoga and the way we practice. In this conversation you’ll meet a yoga teacher who truly is changing the way we see the world. In the yoga world, we can be fairly rigid, stuck even, to the practices we know and love but if he were to nudge you sideways, would you fall? That’s what he found from the experienced yogis he was teaching. And he learnt how to teach in a new way by looking at and listening to the needs of this group of yogis. David's classes broke the ice, and changed my way of practicing As yogis, we can often talk about connection, but when we’re in a room of yogis, sometimes there is no lonelier place. I found that David’s classes broke the ice and changed my way of practicing, pushed me far out of my comfort zone. Going into areas of discomfort in order to grow, to challenge yourself, is the essence of David’s movement teachings. He teaches us how to be responsive to what is really happening, within ourselves and in relation to our surroundings. Which is music to home yogis ears! We are used to having to sidestep the dog, there really is no ‘sacred space’ at home, so when we embrace this and learn that this is part of our practice, the removal of boundaries and safe spaces, this can be so liberating. Find out how you can learn to be more creative, brave and truly move out of your comfort zone, with David’s insights into movement.
