Why does our faith feel so strong in Ramadan but weaker after Eid?Why do we experience spiritual highs during fasting, night prayers, and Qur'an recitation, only to face emotional and spiritual lows afterward? Is this hypocrisy, weakness of faith, or something deeper? In this powerful lecture, we explore “The Ramadan Pendulum” — the natural spiritual rhythm of the human heart. Drawing from the Qur'an, Hadith, and Islamic spiritual psychology, this talk explains:1. Why iman rises in Ramadan and dips after Ramadan2. Why fluctuation in faith is not hypocrisy, but part of human nature3. How Allah designed spiritual seasons to train, not to trap us in emotional highs4. The wisdom behind fasting in Ramadan (Qur'an 2:183–185)5. How to turn Ramadan energy into sustainable spiritual habits6. How to balance between Repetitive Iftaar Feeding to Strategic Structural Empowerment.7. How to turn Ramadan Energy into Sustainable Habits8. How to live faithfully between the swings (a reflective conclusion)Ramadan does not come to freeze the soul in a spiritual high.It comes to re-centre the heart around Allah — even when life pulls it away.Watch and listen till the end for a powerful conclusion on how to live faithfully between spiritual highs and lows, without guilt, despair, or spiritual self-condemnation.Which part of Ramadan do you struggle to carry into everyday life after Eid — Qur'an, prayers, fasting, or spiritual consistency?Share your experience below. Classic Edgar Allan Poe horror stories—gothic terror, madness, murder, and psychological dread—all in one chilling anthology. If you love classic horror, dark literature, and Victorian-era nightmares, this Poe compilation is built for you: guilt that won't stay buried, revenge sealed behind bricks, obsession that rots the mind, and survival-horror fear sharpened to a razor's edge.Inside this episode:• The Black Cat — a confession soaked in alcohol-fueled violence, guilt, and the uncanny feeling that something is watching from the dark.• Morella — grief, identity, and a haunting that crawls into the heart of a family and refuses to let go.• The Cask of Amontillado — Poe's coldest revenge tale: a smiling invitation, a wine cellar, and a final brick laid in silence.• The Pit and the Pendulum — pure claustrophobic survival horror: imprisonment, panic, and the merciless countdown of the pendulum's arc.• Berenice — obsession turns grotesque as love, memory, and fixation spiral into something unspeakable.Whether you're here for classic ghost stories, murder confessions, or psychological horror that still hits hard today—press play, turn the lights down, and let Poe do what he does best.
House of Usher (1960), The Pit and the Pendulum (1961), and The Masque of the Red Death (1964) In the beginning of his career as a producer / director Roger Corman was known for cranking out cheap and fast black and white pictures that always made money. He worked in all genres, but it was mainly the horror and sci-fi pictures in the mid to late '60s he was known for. All that changed in 1960, when he convinced AIP to let him adapt a story from Edgar Allan Poe, but in color, with a bigger budget, and longer shooting schedule. That started a new phase of Corman's career, which also made an even bigger star of Vincent Price. In this episode, we take a deep dive into three of these Poe adaptations, and not necessarily looking in the faithfulness of them, but in their production, the incredible casts, the look, the style, as well as the feel of them. They really do get better each and every time you watch them. Hopefully after listening to this episode, you'll decide to either venture down this dark path for the first time, or take a revisit to admire the doom and gloom they all have. Films mentioned in this episode: The Big Bird Cage (1972), Black Sunday (1960), Chinatown (1974), City of the Dead (1960), Countess Dracula (1971), Corman's World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel (2011), Death Race 2000 (1975), Don't Look Now (1973), Duel (1971), Five Guns West (1955), The Fly (1958), Gunslinger (1956), The Haunted Palace (1963), Horror Hospital (1973), House on Haunted Hill (1959), House of Usher (1960), House of Wax (1953), Humanoids from the Deep (1980), Intruder (1962), It Conquered the World (1956), The Legend of Hell House (1973), Little Shop of Horrors (1960), Masque of the Red Death (1964), Monster from the Ocean Floor (1954), Naked Paradise (1957), Not of this Earth (1957), Pit Stop (1969), Piranha (1978), The Pit and the Pendulum (1961), Premature Burial (1962), Psycho (1960), The Raven (1963), Return of the Fly (1959), Rock 'n' Roll High School (1979), The Seventh Seal (1957), Swamp Women (1956), Tales of Terror (1962), The Terror (1963), The Tingler (1959), Trilogy of Terror (1975), The Wasp Women (1959)

And you know what? We have no excuses for why it took us this long, especially since it's so freaking good.Spoiler warnings ahead, though we're not spoiling the plot so much as fangirling over everything we loved: the design, the art deco interiors, the animation, the callbacks, the VOICE ACTING. (Dear Hollywood, please keep giving Chris Hemsworth all the comedy roles, kthxbye.)We also veer off into tangents about Zootopia 2 and Iron Lung, and hold a mini dreamcasting session about which Marvel actors should play which Transformers characters. On this episode of Songs of Our Lives, it's Carlos Giffoni! To me, Carlos is a legend, so it was great to have him on the show. His new album, “Pendulum,” is full of great collaborations (Zola Jesus, Ben Chasny, Greg Kelley, Mabe Fratti, Lea Bertucci, & Iggor Cavalera), and really shows the range of his compositional approaches. Plus, he just announced that No Fun will return in 2026 - hell yes! Bill Kirk and Phil Kafarakis break down Constellation Brands (STZ) earnings, which sent the stock higher despite year-over-year contraction. Phil says the whole industry is suffering because of suppressed demand from consumers. Consumers are moving from quantity to quality, he argues, along with Gen Z's more moderate drinking. Bill says the outlook is the real story as we're beginning to lap last year's disruptions. He thinks the pendulum may swing back from health and wellness towards alcohol, and says Constellation Brands is his top pick in the sector.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Options involve risks and are not suitable for all investors. In this first episode of Hidden Wisdom for 2026, Meghan introduces the core framework behind the podcast's direction: living the mysteries. Drawing from ancient traditions, Christian mysticism, symbolism, archetype, and scripture, this episode explains the difference between exoteric religion and esoteric wisdom, and why both are essential for true spiritual maturity.Meghan explores the soul's journey as a process of repeated death and rebirth, the movement from head knowledge to embodied wisdom, and the transformation that occurs when inner false identities are released. This episode addresses spiritual development, deconstruction, shadow work, repentance, grace, and theosis, all framed within a Christ-centered path.Listeners are invited to develop “eyes to see,” reclaim personal spiritual authority, and understand how religion can prepare us for deeper, inward communion with God rather than replace it.This foundational episode sets the tone for Hidden Wisdom in 2026 and offers a grounded, Christ-rooted approach to esoteric spirituality, divine law, and living a transformed life.Specific Timestamps00:00–03:20 | Welcome to 2026 and the purpose of the episode 03:20–06:50 | Defining “Living the Mysteries” and hidden wisdom 06:50–10:45 | Exoteric knowledge: structure, law, and spiritual childhood 10:45–14:20 | Esoteric wisdom: heart knowledge, embodiment, and maturity 14:20–17:55 | The soul's journey as sanctification and transformation 17:55–21:40 | Theosis, remembering the true self, and unity with God 21:40–25:10 | Asking real questions and beginning spiritual awakening 25:10–28:20 | Death, deconstruction, shadow work, and ego surrender 28:20–33:30 | Grace, rebirth, spiritual gifts, and ancient mystery traditions 33:30–37:25 | Religion vs. spirituality: the bullseye model of truth 37:25–41:20 | Masculine and feminine dynamics in religion and mysticism 41:20–44:50 | Why the esoteric feels dangerous and misunderstood 44:50–48:15 | Pendulum swings, spiritual ego, and imbalance 48:15–51:35 | Light and dark sides of spiritual distortion 51:35–55:40 | Christ as anchor, guide, and archetype of the journey 55:40–59:35 | Introducing esoteric Mormonism 59:35–01:02:55 | Scripture, authority, embodiment, and personal revelation 01:02:55–01:06:55 | Divine feminine, polarity, and perennial wisdom 01:06:55–01:10:10 | Practical steps to begin living the mysteries 01:10:10–End | Direction of Hidden Wisdom in 2026 and closing invitation Thank you for listening to Hidden Wisdom! Joshua Lewis sits down with Dr. Joy Qualls—Pentecostal scholar, Assemblies of God minister, and author to explore the history, theology, and lived experience of women in Pentecostal leadership. From early Scandinavian pietist revivals and Azusa Street to modern Assemblies of God policy, they trace how Pentecostal theology of Holy Spirit empowerment collided with institutional respectability, evangelical politics, and unspoken “invisible fences” around women's roles in church leadership.Along the way, they unpack stories of forgotten Pentecostal heroines like Rachel Sislo, Amanda Benedict, May Eleanor Fry, and Blanch Elizabeth Britton—women who planted churches, prayed in revival, confronted injustice, and literally died on the road preaching the gospel. They also explore how AG policy has officially affirmed women in ministry since 1935, even while local practice has often lagged behind, creating dissonance for called women in Pentecostal churches. This episode will challenge both complementarian and egalitarian assumptions. It raises hard questions about ecclesiology, spiritual gifts vs. church offices, spiritual warfare over calling, and how movements lose their prophetic edge when they chase institutional respectability. This conversation provides historical context, theological categories, and pastoral wisdom for navigating the debate of women in ministry without capitulating to cultural pressure on either side.0:00 – Introduction2:27 – Book overview4:59 – The rhetoric versus reality for women in AG8:39 – Assemblies of God policy13:31 – National leadership changes16:54 – Growth in women's credentialing and leadership17:00 – Women's role before Azusa22:19 – Early female leaders36:46 – Institutionalization challenges43:03 – Pendulum swings51:47 – Influence of respectability and evangelical integration57:12 – Recent decades: education, policy, and hope for the future1:03:44 – Final thoughtsABOUT THE GUEST:
The Bell Witch became one of America's most famous hauntings, but the truth behind the violent spirit that allegedly tormented a Tennessee family for years remains shrouded in mystery and debate.IN THIS EPISODE: The tale of the Bell Witch has gone on to become one of the most well known hauntings in American history and an iconic historical horror story, but of course it has left us to debate and speculate on whether any of it is true, and if so just what was the Bell Witch? (The Disturbing Case of the Bell Witch) *** The pentagram is most often seen in film and television as a symbol of Satan, or dark witchcraft – but that is not the reality of pentagram. The symbol has a much wider and richer history than what is portrayed in today's entertainment mediums. While the practices and beliefs of Wicca, gnostics, and druids use the pentagram in their practices, as do Satanists, the pentagram was (and sometimes still is) used by Christian believers as well – which I'm sure comes as quite a shock to those who don't know the full history behind this five pointed star. (The Paranormal Pentagram) *** I have told innumerable stories involving the death of someone, be it brutal, mysterious, or even darkly humorous. But it is high time I share a few stories of people who died… but then returned to the living. Not as ghosts, but as regular flesh-and-blood human beings who just happened to survive their own death. (They Survived Their Own Deaths) *** The Lake Bodom murders may well be the most famous unsolved homicide in Scandinavian Criminal History. Occurring in 1960 and claiming 3 victims with 1 injured survivor it is a Finnish zeitgeist that at one time or another had the whole of Finland enraptured. It is now a buzzword for murder and mystery in the small country. Time sure is moving, but has a sufficient amount of it passed for us to start considering the next generation of PlayStation console? According to two reliable leakers, the answer is yes: Sony is very much aiming to get PS6 out in 2027. This makes sense by historical standards -- seven years between consoles is fairly normal, if not even a little slow -- but it really doesn't feel like we need this thing. Or do we? By 2027, who knows what our ecosystem might look like. Let's discuss! Plus: Legendary Tecmo director and producer Tomonobu Itagakai has sadly passed away, Sony-owned studio Bluepoint is hiring for a mysterious third-person action project, San Diego Studio appears primed to finally bring its smash-hit MLB: The Show series to PC, Ghost of Yotei is selling at parity with Ghost of Tsushima, we could have very easily gotten a mobile The Last of Us game, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Do we like to partake in New Game+, when applicable? With Xbox's displacement as a hardware competitor, is Sony and Nintendo's long-standing rivalry primed to be reignited? Why don't we talk more about the fighting scene? Will Dustin regale us with some of his Japanese language skills?
