In March of 1996, a cat named Scarlett made national news when she ran into a burning building five separate times to rescue her kittens. She sustained severe burns to her paws, she was blinded by the heat and smoke, and her whiskers had burned, but that didn't stop her. Again and again, she faced danger to save her babies and after her task was completed, she touched each kitten with her nose, counting them all, making sure they were all safe. Scarlett is probably the platonic ideal of motherhood. Despite immense pain and immense danger, she sacrificed herself to save her babies. Last week, we began to tell you the story of a mother who was not so ideal. Who at the same time that Scarlett was saving her kittens, would be under investigation for arson and the murder of her children. Join us for part 2 of the chilling story of Dr. Debora Green, a brilliant but troubled doctor who ultimately chose her own desire for revenge over the lives of her family. In his play Medea, Euripides wrote the story of a mother scorned. Her husband, Jason left her for another woman and in her fury, Medea murders their children in revenge. As she prepared to poison her sons, she was asked if she was sure, and she said, “Yes, for this is the best way to wound my husband.” A mother, so overtaken with jealousy and hatred that she took the lives of the children that she claimed to love so dearly. Today's story is about a mother like Medea. Someone who was so overcome with rage and jealousy that she used her innocent children as pawns in a sick game to get revenge on someone else. Join us for the story of an unthinkable multiple murder that shocked Kansas City to the core.Sources:Bitter Harvest by Ann RuleMurderpedia, various articles: https://murderpedia.org/female.G/g/green-debora.htmForensic Files, episode "Tennis and Madness" Follow us, campers!Patreon (join to get all episodes ad-free, at least a day early, an extra episode a month, and a free sticker!): https://patreon.com/TrueCrimeCampfireFacebook: True Crime CampfireInstagram: https://gramha.net/profile/truecrimecampfire/19093397079Twitter: @TCCampfire https://twitter.com/TCCampfireEmail: truecrimecampfirepod@gmail.comMERCH! https://true-crime-campfire.myspreadshop.com/

Genius. Doctor. Childkiller. A tragic fire, 2 children and 2 dogs dead. A dream home destroyed. Mom, dad, and a third child left to grieve. But turns out there was a lot more to the story, and the person expected to be the ultimate protector was actually a heartless perpetrator.Kate Farrar – Forensic Files Nowhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debora_GreenRule, Ann. It was a windy October night in 1995 when the family of Debora Green and Michael Farrar was forever ripped apart. A fire had started at an upscale house in Prairie Village, Kansas, and by the time it had run its course, the once immaculate home would be little more than charred ruins. Amongst those ruins lay the bodies of 12 year old Tim Farrar and six year old Kelly Farrar. ***Trigger Warning....disturbing elements involving children. This week Tina is once again joined by Nurse Jessica and this time she brought her husband along, Dr. John, a board certified OB/GYN. They start off with a twisted tale of a doctor who turned to drugs and alcohol to cope after not being able to pass her boards. What she did as her life spiraled out of control has left everyone completely shocked and horrified. For the good doctor story they discuss the amazing story of a woman who had a baby on a plane bound for Hawaii, and there just happened to be a doctor and several NICU nurses on board! They close the show with a funny article about OB/GYN doctors getting confused about where on the body to swab for COVID! Sponsors Please support our show by supporting our sponsors! Listener, what happens when your home is destroyed in a natural disaster or accident and you lose the very people you need around you? You have no home to go to, and are cast adrift without the people you love who you rely on to make difficult times easier to bear. You feel abandoned and alone. And listener, what happens if that ‘accident’ that destroyed your home and killed your loved ones wasn’t actually determined to be an accident at all, but something far more sinister, caused by the last person on earth you’d suspect? This is what we contemplate in today’s story.
