Today's Headlines: Bill Gates testified before the House Oversight Committee that Epstein tried to blackmail him after he tried to distance himself, saying he never went to the island or witnessed criminal conduct — the standard answer at this point — while a New York Times excerpt from an upcoming Haberman/Swan book revealed the White House Situation Room freakout over the Epstein files last July, with JD Vance emerging as a conspiracy theorist who wanted full file release and suggested Tucker Carlson interview Ghislaine Maxwell to clear Trump, while the administration quietly panicked over a specific sex allegation about Trump. On the war beat, the US launched strikes for the second consecutive night, Pete Hegseth announced they would "negotiate with bombs," Iran responded by attacking Bahrain and Kuwait and closing the Strait of Hormuz with a shoot-on-sight policy for any ship attempting to pass — the Dow fell nearly 1,000 points, the Nasdaq closed down 2%, inflation came in at 4.2% the worst in three years driven by energy prices, and Trump said "I love the inflation," which he said out loud. New reporting found at least 500 babies and toddlers in ICE custody during Trump's second term, averaging 25 per day and ten times higher than under Biden. The EU warned Albania that the Kushner Sazan Island resort could jeopardize their EU membership bid, as tens of thousands of Albanians enter their tenth day of protests. The White House launched an official "Media Offenders" page categorizing journalists under headers like "Left-Wing Lunacy" and "Malpractice." And finally, Nancy Mace abandoned her congressional seat to run for South Carolina governor, finished fifth in the primary, and announced she's "headed back to the private sector as the founders intended." Transforming Patient Aftercare with Technology to Reduce Cancellations and Malpractice Risks

Keep What You Earn

Play Episode Listen Later May 19, 2026 37:01

Most med spas focus heavily on the procedure itself, but patient experience is shaped just as much by what happens before and after treatment. In this episode, I sit down with Lars Hegelson, founder of Easy Aftercare, to discuss how poor aftercare communication creates operational strain, financial risk, and preventable patient issues—and why practices that modernize patient education are creating a measurable advantage.  We unpack how accessible, personalized aftercare systems can reduce cancellations, improve compliance, strengthen patient trust, and support the long-term value of the business.  The Operational Risks Hidden Inside Weak Aftercare Systems  One of the biggest operational gaps in healthcare is assuming patients will remember important instructions after receiving a procedure, especially when they're overwhelmed, anxious, or distracted. When aftercare systems are inconsistent, practices end up dealing with preventable complications, repetitive staff communication, after-hours calls, and patients searching online for answers instead of returning to their provider. That creates unnecessary risk for both the patient and the practice.  As patient expectations continue evolving, generic paper handouts and one-time verbal explanations simply aren't enough anymore.  What Better Aftercare Systems Improve Inside the Business  Operational improvement comes from delivering information more effectively—not necessarily more information.  • Timed text-based communication reduces information overload • Video and audio instructions improve retention and accessibility • Caregivers can receive the same aftercare guidance as patients • ADA-compliant and multilingual education improves patient trust • Compliance tracking creates documentation that supports legal protection • Better procedure preparation can reduce cancellations and reschedules  The practices solving these communication problems are creating smoother operations without adding unnecessary complexity for their teams.  Why Communication Has a Direct Financial Impact  Patient education is often treated like a support function, but financially, it affects much more than patient satisfaction. Every preventable cancellation, unnecessary complication, after-hours issue, or malpractice concern creates operational and financial pressure inside the business. Practices that proactively guide patients through preparation, recovery, and follow-up care tend to operate more efficiently while reducing avoidable risk.   There's also an enterprise value component here. Businesses with stronger systems, lower operational friction, and more consistent patient experiences are easier to scale and easier to trust.  As Your Practice Expands, Communication Systems Matter More  Scalable patient education matters.  As med spas grow, consistency becomes harder to maintain. More providers, more locations, and more patients create more opportunities for communication breakdowns if systems aren't standardized. Clear aftercare workflows, accessible instructions, and proactive communication systems help maintain the patient experience as volume increases. The practices that scale best u build systems that consistently support patients before, during, and after treatment.  Follow Shannon & Keep What You Earn:   Shannon Weinstein is the founder of a fractional CFO firm specializing in helping 7-figure aesthetics and wellness practices scale with clarity, cash flow, and confidence.  Shannon is committed to helping med spa owners understand, fix, and maximize their business's enterprise value, offering actionable advice and resources, including a popular free video series specifically for aesthetics practice owners.   Fractional CFO Services and Executive Financial Review: https://www.keepwhatyouearn.com/  Connect with Shannon: https://www.linkedin.com/in/shannonweinstein  Watch full episodes: https://www.youtube.com/@KeepWhatYouEarn  Listen on your favorite podcast app: https://pod.link/1580071347  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/shannonkweinstein/  The information shared is for educational purposes only and is not individualized financial advice. Then there's a HIPAA bombshell hiding in those 98 recordings that were handed over to a private investigator — and if Dr. Lenny didn't handle this the way federal law requires, his own patients could have legal standing to act right now. We're also breaking down Dr. Lenny Hochstein's professional record including six malpractice lawsuits filed between 2019 and 2025, the illegal non-disparagement agreements he required patients to sign before surgery, and a business structure that makes it nearly impossible for patients to pursue him the normal way — and we have the Florida Department of Health records to back all of this up. This one is a gift to Lisa Hochstein and every person who has ever had someone weaponize the justice system against them. RHOM fans and true crime followers do not want to miss this one.

Lindsay Clancy: Malpractice Lawsuits, Prosecution Strategy, and a DSM Gap

Dark Side of Wikipedia | True Crime & Dark History

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 5, 2026 39:27

The Lindsay Clancy case now operates on two legal tracks that directly contradict each other — and the collision between them will define her July 2026 trial. In January 2026, both Lindsay and her husband Patrick filed separate civil lawsuits in Norfolk Superior Court alleging medical malpractice by her psychiatric providers. Those lawsuits describe a woman in severe psychiatric crisis who sought help repeatedly and received what they characterize as a disorganized, uncoordinated course of polypharmacy that exacerbated her condition. The prosecution, meanwhile, is citing one of those providers' assessments — a December 2022 finding at Women & Infants Hospital that ruled out postpartum depression and bipolar disorder — as evidence that Lindsay was not mentally impaired at the time of the killings. This week's look back at the most consequential legal and medical developments examines the evidentiary foundation for both positions. According to the civil complaints, Lindsay Clancy's postpartum symptoms escalated across three pregnancies. Expert analysis by Columbia University psychiatry professor Dr. Margaret Spinelli, cited in Lindsay's lawsuit, concluded that bipolar symptoms first emerged after the birth of her second child and went undiagnosed. After her third child's birth in May 2022, approximately thirteen medications were prescribed in roughly four months. The lawsuits allege providers failed to coordinate care, conducted appointments via video that were too short to adequately assess her condition, and failed to involve family members despite clear warning signs. The December 2022 Women & Infants assessment — which the lawsuit attributes to an inadequate patient history — ruled out the diagnoses that Lindsay's defense now relies upon. The prosecution is treating that assessment as dispositive. The defense will argue it was negligent. The same medical record is simultaneously the foundation of a malpractice claim and the prosecution's key evidence of mental competence.Lindsay was admitted to McLean Hospital on New Year's Eve 2022. She reportedly waited three days to see a doctor and was discharged after five. Hallucinations returned eleven days later. Her final appointment — approximately 17 minutes on a video screen on January 23rd — ended with a dosage increase. She faces three counts of first-degree murder. Her insanity defense goes to trial in July. A judge recently denied her motion to bifurcate the proceedings.Postpartum psychosis is not included in the DSM. It occurs at an estimated rate of one to two per thousand births. That diagnostic gap affects every clinical decision, every insanity evaluation, and every question a jury will be asked to answer.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Politics shouldn't be cosplay—especially when safety, budgets, and hospital doors are on the line. We open with quick Super Bowl takes, then head straight into a hard look at three New Mexico flashpoints: SB17's magazine caps and “assault weapon” restrictions, SB18's climate push with major fiscal fallout, and HB99's malpractice reform that could decide whether you can even get a doctor. We share first‑hand stories of self‑defense, explain why broad gun bans punish lawful owners while leaving violent offenders untouched, and outline a smarter path: tougher, certain penalties for crimes with guns and enforcement that actually deters repeat violence.Energy comes next. We parse the legislature's own fiscal notes and examine what happened in Germany and the UK when policy outpaced reality: higher prices, weakened grids, and industry strain. With AI and data centers driving a surge in power demand, shrinking local generation risks competitiveness, jobs, and the very revenue that funds schools, child care, and Medicaid. If the goal is a cooler planet, policy should be measured by impact, not intent—and state‑level gestures that raise costs without moving the climate needle deserve a second look.Healthcare is the tipping point. HB99 aims to fix a broken malpractice ecosystem that has pushed physicians and specialists out of New Mexico, shut primary care panels, and put rural hospitals at risk. We give credit for a course correction, but warn that trial‑lawyer pressure could water the bill down to nothing, forcing a special session as patients wait months or years for care. Add in the national debate over the SAVE Act and voter ID—where overwhelming majorities across parties back showing ID—and you see a pattern: people want basic competence and fairness, not culture‑war theater. We also highlight an Oregon investigative thread on alleged cartel‑level violence tied to Medicaid fraud, and challenge the media's selective coverage that leaves communities misinformed. We wrap with a nod to the Olympics and Lindsay Vonn's grit, a reminder that real courage aims at real outcomes. For eleven days after Monique Tepe and her husband Dr. Spencer Tepe were found shot to death in their Columbus home, the man charged with their murders was still working as a vascular surgeon in Illinois. Michael McKee, 39, pleaded not guilty on January 23rd to four counts of aggravated murder. Prosecutors say ballistic evidence links a firearm from McKee's Rockford property to shell casings recovered at the crime scene. Surveillance footage allegedly captured his vehicle arriving just before the December 30th killings and leaving shortly after. Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant called it a "targeted" and "domestic violence related attack." The couple's two young children, ages four and one, were found unharmed inside the home. McKee and Monique divorced in 2017 after less than two years of marriage. She and Spencer were approaching their fifth wedding anniversary. But the murder charges aren't the only story here. McKee's Nevada medical license had expired in June 2025. Court records show he was added to a malpractice lawsuit just months before the killings. He allegedly provided fake addresses on official documents. Yet he was credentialed to perform surgery at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. How does this happen? We expose the National Practitioner Data Bank—a database Congress created to catch problem doctors that the public can't access and many state medical boards don't check. Over 500 doctors disciplined in one state are practicing elsewhere with clean records. More than 250 who surrendered licenses are operating in new states with no consequences. They call it "passing the trash" in education. In medicine, there's no equivalent reform. No federal accountability. Just a system protecting physician mobility over patient safety. McKee faces life without parole. Today we're looking beyond the alleged double homicide of Monique and Spencer Tepe to ask a question that affects every patient in America: How did the man charged with their murders get licensed to practice medicine in the first place?Michael McKee, a vascular surgeon, allegedly killed his ex-wife and her husband in Columbus, Ohio on December 30, 2025. He was arrested eleven days later at a Chick-fil-A blocks from the Illinois hospital where he was still employed. But the red flags existed long before the murders.A Nevada malpractice attorney spent two years trying to serve McKee with papers. The addresses provided by McKee's surgical group didn't exist. His Nevada license expired in June 2025 while the lawsuit was still pending. Yet Illinois granted him a medical license in 2024 and OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center credentialed him to operate on patients. The system designed to catch doctors like McKee - the National Practitioner Data Bank - only tracks paid claims, not pending lawsuits. Many state boards don't even query it. A major investigation found over 500 doctors disciplined in one state practicing elsewhere with clean records. In education they call it "passing the trash" and there's federal law against it. In medicine? There's nothing. The AMA has fought to keep the NPDB closed to the public. Court records reveal two active lawsuits in Nevada that paint a picture of a doctor allegedly running from accountability long before the murders. In Clark County, a patient named Guilherme Schwanz is suing McKee and Las Vegas Surgical Associates over a July 2023 procedure gone wrong. The lawsuit alleges a catheter sheared during surgery, leaving 8.6 inches of plastic inside the patient's body. He required emergency surgery. The complaint claims defendants concealed the error and failed to provide truthful medical records. A jury trial is scheduled for July 2027.In federal court, an incarcerated man alleges McKee served on Nevada's prison medical review panel and repeatedly delayed specialist care for a serious condition. The result, according to the lawsuit: permanent injury, including the loss of a testicle. Dahlia Lithwick is joined by former federal prosecutor Mimi Rocah, who brings her extensive experience trying and supervising federal criminal cases to a discussion of what the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein's sexual abuse can teach us about justice. She suggests that the Trump administration's eleventh-hour switchback tactic of calling for investigations of only Democrats speaks volumes about how the Justice Department is functioning these days, proving that vindictive prosecutions are the only game in town, bonus if they also have the effect of power-washing the president's shadow from the scandal. Next, they turn to the extraordinary scenes in a Virginia courtroom this week, as the DOJ's case against former FBI director and Trump foe James Comey seemed ready  to fall apart at the seams. As this administration's practice of political interference in legal proceedings is supercharged by dear leader's “Dear Pam”  posts to “his” AG Pam Bondi, this conversation highlights why judicial integrity and the ever-expanding ranks of judges refusing to accept lies, are among the last best hopes for equal justice under the law in America.  Learn more about your ad choices.
