Despite the fact US healthcare has $7.6 trillion market cap and is beyond capital intensive, industry executives have been loathe to divest in fossil fuels. For example, per “The Lancet's” 2023 and 2024 annual “Countdown on Health and Climate” reports, between 2008 and 2023 of the 1,613 institutions committed to divesting in fossil fuels, only 28 were healthcare institutions and since 2018 only one has committed to doing so. Among numerous other reasons why this is, to be polite, disturbing, if not evil, is because: fossil fuel investments substantially explain healthcare's massive carbon footprint at over 600 MMT of CO2e annually; anthropocentric warming poses the greatest threat to human health; failure to divest make a mockery of the Hippocratic Oath; and, among other ironies of the 12 S&P 500 economic sectors the energy sector was the worst performer by far since 2010. Information regarding the First Do No Harm campaign, including their sign-on letter, is at: https://firstdonoharm.earth/. This is a public episode. Summary In this episode Dr. Carolina Guzman Holst is a NIHR Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, discusses her recent paper titled Scoping review: potential harm from school-based group mental health interventions.  Where the authors ‘examine three areas: the types of potential harms and adverse events reported in school-based mental health interventions; the subgroups of children and adolescents at heightened risk; and the proposed explanations for these potential harms.'The conversation explores the rising mental health issues among young people in schools, focusing on universal interventions like mindfulness and CBT. Carolina Guzman discusses her scoping review on the potential negative effects of these interventions, emphasising the importance of understanding their impact on vulnerable groups. The discussion highlights the need for careful implementation and monitoring of mental health programs in educational settings, advocating a tailored approach rather than a one-size-fits-all solution. Universal interventions aim to help all students, regardless of need. Mindfulness and CBT are common school interventions. Negative effects of interventions can occur, especially in vulnerable groups. High quality implementation quality is crucial for intervention success. Long-term benefits of interventions are often not well-studied. Schools should monitor the effects of mental health programs. A hybrid approach may be more effective than universal interventions alone. Teachers should consult evidence before implementing programs. Tailored support is essential for students with specific needs. The Joyful DVM Podcast - Encouraging and Empowering Veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Teams to create Joyf

In this episode, Dr. Cari Wise discusses the unpredictability of veterinary practice, the impact of human errors, and the unrealistic pursuit of perfection. It emphasizes the importance of accepting human fallibility, understanding that mistakes are part of the learning process, and fostering self-compassion. The principle of "first do no harm" is explored, highlighting the intention behind actions rather than the outcomes. The podcast also stresses the significance of building trust within oneself to establish strong relationships with clients. Veterinary professionals are reminded of their qualifications and encouraged to focus on the positive impacts they make, letting go of guilt and shame associated with past mistakes. The overarching message is to embrace veterinary medicine as a journey of growth, where doing one's best in each moment is what truly matters.Key takeaways:Challenges in Veterinary Practice: Veterinary professionals face unpredictability and emotional struggles, often dealing with outcomes that do not meet expectations and human errors that lead to guilt and shame.Acceptance of Human Fallibility: The podcast emphasizes that veterinary medicine is a practice where mistakes are inevitable. It encourages acceptance of human fallibility and making decisions with the best available information and intentions at the time.Critique of Perfectionism: Perfectionism is seen as detrimental to self-trust and team dynamics. The relentless pursuit of perfection can create a toxic work environment and hinder professional growth.Principle of "First Do No Harm": This principle is about the intention to help rather than guaranteeing the absence of discomfort or suffering. Self-judgment based on future evaluations of past decisions can lead to guilt and shame.Building Trusting Relationships: Trust within oneself is foundational to building trusting relationships with clients. Approaching client interactions with self-doubt and shame can hinder rapport, while focusing on the best interests of the patient and client can mitigate adverse outcomes.Qualifications and Decision-Making: Veterinary professionals are reminded of their qualifications and the importance of making informed decisions based on available resources,Resources: ⭐Get The Alternative Career Guide for Veterinary Professionals: Create A Career Tailored to You! https://joyfuldvm.com/jobguide ⭐Join VetMed;JOY CLUB: Elevate Your Life & Veterinary Career Experience https://joyfuldvm.com/joyclub ⭐Listen to The Joyful DVM Podcast: Be Inspired by Empowering Perspectives on Navigating Life as A Veterinary Professional https://joyfuldvm.com/podcast ⭐Join VET LIFE ACADEMY: Transform Your Veterinary Life & Career from the inside out https://joyfuldvm.com/vetlifeacademy ⭐Learn How to Support Your Organization and Enhance Employee Wellbeing https://joyfuldvm.com/organizations Follow me: Website: https://joyfuldvm.com Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/18257625/ Instagram: ...

Kirk is a 59-year old Utah physician now facing 15 years in prison for simply doing what his patients asked and even more importantly abiding by The Hippocratic Oath that requires that doctors “First Do No Harm”. The exact wording of the oath is "I will abstain from all intentional wrong-doing and harm". With every passing day, it becomes clearer and clearer that the COVID-19 vaccines were experimental and too often increased unnecessary medical risks in return for dubious protections. The government's failure to conduct thorough testing on COVID-19 vaccines, and the near complete censorship of opposing views, limited the ability of anyone to exercise informed consent fully. This violates basic ethics by denying individuals the opportunity to make decisions about their health based on complete information regarding potential risks and benefits. Kirk's actions were upholding the ethical doctrines of “informed consent” and “do no harm” to anyone who felt that they did not have all the information, wanted more information, or simply did not trust the information being provided by the ‘experts' and they chose to not be forced to receive one. At no point did Kirk charge for any of these consultations or services. The US Government now seeks to imprison this single father for doing nothing more than what his patients asked for. The government, in its case, fakes concern over the destruction of actual vaccines. It's almost laughable considering millions of vials are being destroyed worldwide by governments. (2:00) Gina has multiple friends who have met through apps and are now married. Vinnie gets clear on how some of the apps work, and basically, some of the apps are people just objectifying each other. Gina then plays a TikTok video about a popular coffee chain and how many grams of sugar is in its new pumpkin spice dessert coffee concoction. (15:00) The video states that 185 grams of sugar is in just one drink! Vinnie talks about a video he did years ago where he interviewed people outside a Starbucks about their drinks. He shares everything he observed. What people don't understand about all that sugar is that it is damaging their mitochondria and their DNA. (20:00) Damaging mitochondria and DNA creates a breeding ground for cancer to grow. Vinnie has been avoiding sugar for 16 years and his cancer has never come back, even after he was told it would return in 5 years. Food can either hurt or heal you, it's up to you. They also discuss Jim Abrahams, who was in "FAT: A Documentary." Vinnie recounts the story of Jim's son Charlie, who was a small child suffering multiple seizures a day. Even though Charlie was only 2 or 3 years old, doctors had given up. Jim had discovered the ketogenic diet, which was a 100-year-old proven therapy, but doctors were recommending a partial lobotomy! They were willing to cut out a piece of his brain, but not try changing his food! Jim made a movie starring Meryl Streep based on a true story similar to Charlie's. Today we have our good friend and colleague Dr. Dominic D'Agostino returning for his third appearance on STEM-Talk. Dom, as most of our longtime listeners know, is well-known for his research into the ketogenic diet and the physiological benefits of nutritional ketosis. Since our last conversation with Dom in 2019, a tremendous body of research has been added to the literature about the therapeutic potential of ketosis. The high-fat, low-carb ketogenic diet has been linked to advances in the treatment of Alzheimer's, cancer, migraines, type-2 diabetes, psoriasis, sleep apnea, psychiatric disorders, traumatic brain injuries as well as a host of other diseases and disorders, which we cover in today's interview. In episode 14 of STEM-Talk, we talked to Dom about his development and testing of metabolic therapies involving the ketogenic diet for a wide range of diseases and conditions. In episode 87, Dom returned to reflect on his 10 years of research focused on the high-fat/low-carbohydrate diet. In today's interview, we talk to Dom about this latest work as well as his extensive research on hyperbaric oxygen. Dom is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of South Florida Morsani. He specializes in neuroscience, molecular pharmacology, nutrition, and physiology. Dom also is our colleague and a research scientist here at the IHMC. Show notes  [00:02:50] Dawn opens the interview mentioning Dom's recent IHMC Evening Lecture, in which he mentions the film “First Do No Harm” starring Meryl Streep. The film is based on the true story of a four-year-old boy diagnosed with severe epilepsy, whose extreme seizures continued despite extensive medical treatments. The boy's mother reached to Dr. John Freeman, a physician who had successfully treated patients with a ketogenic diet. Dawn asks Dom to give some context about this fictional film based on a true story. [00:05:05] Dawn asks Dom to discuss the many evidence-based applications of the ketogenic diet that he highlighted in his IHMC evening lecture. [00:07:11] Ken asks Dom about another story involving Russell Winwood, a man with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, also known as COPD. Russell reached out to Dom with respect to treating his COPD with a ketogenic diet. [00:11:21] Ken asks if Russell only engaged in the ketogenic diet or if also used exogenous ketones. [00:12:10] Ken mentions that the ketogenic diet has the broad potential to be an anti-inflammatory diet. Ken goes on to mention that COPD is an inflammatory disease. As Dom's case report suggested, Ken wonders if the ketogenic diet has the potential to have strong therapeutic effects for other inflammatory conditions as well. Ken asks what other conditions Dom thinks might benefit from therapeutic ketosis. [00:14:02] Dawn mentions that Dom has been busy since his last appearance on STEM-Talk, having authored or collaborated on more than 40 papers, one of which garnered a lot of attention and was published in Frontiers in Neuroscience. This paper investigated whether therapeutic ketosis via ketone esters could represent a viable way to treat epilepsy and other seizure disorders. Dawn asks Dom to elaborate on this paper's findings and their significance. [00:16:26] Ken mentions that those listeners who are unfamiliar with ketone esters may want to check out our interview with Dr. Brianna Stubbs. Ken asks Dom to give a quick primer on ketone esters and why so many researchers in the field are excited about their potential. [00:19:20] Ken mentions that in addition to ketone salts and ketone esters, there are other product formulations out now, like the one from a company called Kenetik. Ken asks Dom what he thinks about this formulation. [00:23:33] Dawn mentions that Dom has had a number of animal studies published since 2019 looking at ketone induced neuroprotection and asks Dom to give an overview of some of this...

Special Podcast Highlight - Listener Discretion Advised Check out this interview with a mother named Erin Friday who shares her experience with her daughter's transgender identity. Erin explains that her daughter was indoctrinated in her public school to believe she was born in the wrong body. The daughter went through various identities and eventually identified as transgender after spending time online and discovering transgenderism. Erin criticizes the education system for encouraging an existential crisis in children and promoting the idea that discomfort with one's body means they should be transgender. Erin mentions that her daughter is now comfortable in her female body and no longer identifies as transgender. However, she believes her daughter may not fully understand the "evil forces" and ideology behind transgenderism. They discuss the influences that impacted her daughter, including the public school system, social media, pornography, and anime. Erin warns about the dangers of anime, which can lead to exposure to cartoon pornography and put children at risk of being targeted by pedophiles. Erin recommends alternatives to smartphones, such as flip phones, and emphasizes the need for parents to have access to their child's devices and regularly check them. She also suggests resources for parents dealing with gender identity struggles: books like 'Desist, Detrans, & Detox: Getting Your Child Out of the Gender Cult' by Maria Keffler, and a movie originally called "First Do No Harm" about detransition and families.

He has been in practice for over 20 years, and has worked diligently on creating a surgical experience second to none, especially as it relates to a unique, innovative breast augmentation procedure. Born in France, and growing up in Italy, and with an undergraduate degree in Political Science, his well-rounded perspectives have always been a key driver allowing him to view everything with worldly perspectives. When Covid came along, his first inclination was to believe what he was being told and what he was seeing in the news. After a very short time, though, he realized it was not what it seemed. There were just too many assumptions being made and there was an absolute disregard of basic scientific principles. Not treating people early for a disease that was ultimately very treatable, fundamentally violated his driving philosophy: ‘First Do No Harm'. His personal ethical standards and moral foundations do not allow him to just ignore his patient and pretend their problems don't exist. After extensive personally-driven education, he realized that his patients could be treated, very successfully; and he started doing just that. Then, those treatment options were limited by our very own government! The ‘wait for a vac cine' philosophy was a travesty. He has saved hundreds of lives with early treatment and has not had one death in any of the patients he has treated. When the vac cines were ‘approved', far too expeditiously, and without any long-term safety studies, his skepticism grew dramatically. This was mass gen ocide—-actual ‘iatrogenocide'. The AMA Code of Ethics calls for moral usurpation of legal mandates when they conflict with the ethical values of the physician and patient. He abided by that moral code in treating his patients, as they asked to be treated. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-justice-revolution/support

We have a very special opportunity to interview someone that has risked it all to abide by his Hippocratic Oath and face prosecution and persecution from the medical community. Dr Kirk Moore is a board-certified Plastic Surgeon in Sandy, Utah. He has been in practice for over 20 years, and has worked diligently on creating a surgical experience second to none. Born in France, and growing up in Italy, and with an undergraduate degree in Political Science, his well-rounded perspectives have always been a key driver allowing him to view everything with worldly perspectives. When C0vid came along, his first inclination was to believe what he was being told and what he was seeing in the news. As a precautionary measure, he closed his own practice while keeping his staff on payroll, before government shut-downs began. After a short time, however, he realized things were not as they seemed. There were too many assumptions being made and an absolute disregard of basic scientific principles. The ‘wait for a v@ccine' philosophy that replaced that of treating people early for a disease that was ultimately treatable, fundamentally violated his driving philosophy to ‘First Do No Harm'. His personal ethical standards and moral foundations did not allow him to ignore the needs of those who were ill and being denied early treatment from their regular providers and emergency departments. For such individuals, Dr. Moore was a last resort for C0vid treatment. As a plastic surgeon who could have easily turned a blind eye to those in need, he opted to rise to the occasion and help when asked. Armed with his extensive personally-driven education, he began treating those with C0vid very successfully at no cost to all but one patient who was charged only to cover the cost of supplies. Of the near one thousand lives saved with early treatment there was not one death. But treatment options were then limited by our very own government. When the Covid v@ccines were ‘approved' without any long-term safety studies, Dr. Moore's skepticism grew dramatically. This was mass genocide, or rather ‘iatrogenocide'. The AMA Code of Ethics calls for moral usurpation of legal mandates when they conflict with the ethical values of the physician and patient. Dr. Moore abided by that moral code when treating those who asked to be treated, and in a way they wanted to be treated. Chris Hoffman -- First Do No Harm: A Humanitarian's Journey to Greater Wholeness and Contribution

Awakin Call

Chris Hoffman, a lifelong humanitarian serving in crisis situations in dozens of countries around the world, realized after nearly two decades of intense work in the field that humanitarians often do more harm than good – largely because they themselves are “not well”. Being passionate individuals who move from crisis to crisis, country to country, in short-term stints on behalf of international organizations, humanitarians often are suffering from the trauma they already embody as well as from what they experience afresh in crisis and conflict situations – to the detriment of their clients, their families, and their own effectiveness. Realizing after 20 years in the field that he was losing touch with what was most important to him (his family and his programs’ clients), Hoffman came to see a more generalized crisis of both well-being and effectiveness in the humanitarian and international aid sector. So he stepped out and stepped back to consider how he could support the humanitarian sector to be more effective and innovative. He first helped through contemplative resilience offerings for humanitarians (consisting of mindfulness and somatic practices) while serving as Managing Director of Garrison Institute International from 2019-2020. Now he aids the sector as Managing Director of Humanity Link, a firm that links innovative companies with humanitarian agencies to develop effective technology for flipping the paradigm in humanitarian programming to be more client-driven. Humanity Link acts as a matchmaker of sorts by linking up those who need help and those organizations who can provide that help. “We have corporates come to us and say 'We have a product we think will work really well in the humanitarian sector. Help us find who we can partner with to use it,'" Hoffman said. Hoffman is perhaps an unlikely global humanitarian. Born in small-town Ohio to a loving but very young teen mother, the seed for travel was planted by the time he was 10 years old, by which time he had already moved six times with his family. At age 13, he sought to travel abroad, and his local community supported him. He later said, “All of the churches, all of the people and our friends chipped in for me to go. So when you say it takes a village, I'm living proof that it takes a village. It took the village of Bremen, [Ohio] to be able to take a kid and get him out and see the world and really be able to change things." His local school district allowed him to progress by giving reports for his grades through a journal he kept. So at age 13, Chris went to live in the bush of Matabeleland in Zimbabwe with a group of young missionaries working to help a small community. At 14, he was off to the jungle of Rhodonia in Brazil to work with orphans stranded on the Madeira River. At 16, he landed in Beira, Mozambique soon after peace was declared, living in the basement of an orphanage helping children who were coming of age to have a trade skill to take into their adult lives. A war in Mozambique was just winding down when he was there, and so he got to see United Nations peacekeeping operations and international humanitarian functions in development settings and in crisis situations. He recognized his life’s purpose. After graduating from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, Hoffman went to work for the Peace Corps in Kenya, and then worked across four continents for the U.N., World Vision, and other international agencies. “The 20 years from teen to now is peppered with crisis, disaster, more than 40 countries and countless experiences with the United Nations and International Non-Profits trying to find the simplest most effective answers to some of the world’s most complex problems,” he says. He established Humanity Link in 2020 to help develop tools and systems that transform how humanitarian organizations interact with people in need – from service delivery to genuine partnership. He partners with corporates to create transformational technology innovations using artificial intelligence, digital identity authentication, and cash distribution solutions for humanitarian agencies around the world. His clients include the International Federation of the Red Cross, the International Organization for Migration, and the Norwegian Refugee Council. Chris is the father of four global children and husband to Wakanyi, "an amazing partner" who he met at a Nairobi bus stop on a sunny Sunday. They live in Groningen, the Netherlands with their dog Thomas and their cat Totoro. Join us in conversation with this resilient and innovative humanitarian!

Medical Gaslighting  Examples & what I learned this week... Do you know what medical gaslighting is? Today we're talking medical gaslighting examples, because what I learned this week is that gaslighting is a 2022 word of the year! That's right! It's happened so often, to so many people, that Merriam-Webster (the dictionary people) named "gaslighting" as one of the 2022 words of the year!  I've heard so many medical gaslighting examples from my friends, people I've interviewed, and my own family that I've decided to create a podcast about it. So it's not just going to be something I learned this week, but continue to learn about and fight against in the future. Would you like to join me? GO HERE to fill out a contact form & let me know you'd like to be featured. Here are some medical gaslighting examples questions. (If you say 'yes' to more than 2, you might have encountered it:  Does your doctor interrupt you/do they not allow you to tell what's happening?  Do they tell you they don't even want to talk about your symptoms, or clearly stop listening when you explain?  Does your doctor seem like they're not even listening at all?  Do they minimize your symptoms or act like they're not important?  Do they question the amount of pain that you say you have?  Do they refuse to order labs or other testing to confirm or rule out a diagnosis that you might have?  Are they condescending to you or do they make you feel like you're stupid? And do they tell you that your symptoms are caused by a mental illness like anxiety or depression, but then not get you help for that?  Find out how, and what you can do to make your life better in today's episode Thank you for joining me today! I'm having a blast creating Hardy Mom & it would be an honor to have you share it with someone who has a chronic illlness, pain, or disability, or who loves someone with one of those. Thanks! Episode 2216 - On this Friday's show, Vinnie Tortorich speaks with Dr. Stephen Cunnane and they discuss brain development and fats, taking care of your brain, supplements, and more. https://vinnietortorich.com/taking-care-your-brain-dr-stephen-cunnane-episode-2216 PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS TAKING CARE OF YOUR BRAIN Vinnie starts the show by sharing how he heard about Dr. Stephen Cunnane through Dr. Mary Newport, who has been on the show recently. (1:45) Dr. Steven Cunnane talks a bit about his book, The book discusses brain development in babies and the need for healthy fats. (6:00) It also discusses how various nutrients play the part in various ways in human evolution.  The big question Vinnie and Stephen discuss is: are you taking care of your brain? (15:00) Or are you letting it rot with what you are eating? Vinnie's interest in the brain comes from taking years of beatings playing football; as a result, he's curious about CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy). (16:00) Stephen says it's never too late to be able to make improvements; the question becomes "what can you do"? (21:25) Part of the challenge is the parameters given to doctors that make them hesitant to suggest low-carb. Mark Cucazzella is brought up as an example. The two discuss the movie "First Do No Harm", by Jim Abrams of the Charlie Foundation. (25:05) Charlie's doctors wanted to give him a lobotomy for his seizures; instead, they controlled his epilepsy with the ketogenic diet. They also discuss Eric Westman, Jeff Volek, Steve Phinney, Tim Noakes, and others and what an important part they play in low-carb science. They switch to discuss certain limitations of the current healthcare systems. (29:50) Certain low-carb doctors are walking away from standard practice so they can actually practice health care and not sick care. ESSENTIAL NUTRIENTS Vinnie and Stephen also discuss what zinc and other minerals are optimal for the brain and how they help. (34:10) They discuss iodine, zinc, selenium, and certain deficiencies. They chat about the best sources of various nutrients. More is not always better, and Dr. Cunnane explains why. Don't over-intellectualize it: just eat sensibly. The conversation leads to a discussion about omega fatty acids, cholesterol, and ketones, and how the brain needs them. (46:30) There is still plenty to learn about cognitive decline and Alzheimer's; a lot of questions remain! (51:00) But there is more to it than diet and diabetes; social interaction, looking forward to things, and exercise seem to play a part as well in keeping a healthy brain. Conflicts of interest in science and medicine muddy up the waters of good information. (55:00) Dr. Cunnane has been awarded a research chair position at his university; as a result, the research will focus on ketotherapeutics. (1:01:30) They'll be studying ketogenic interventions of all sorts for mental illness, neurodegenerative disorders, and more. Christy Huff, MD, is a cardiologist and director of Benzodiazepine Information Coalition, a nonprofit that educates about the adverse effects of prescribed benzodiazepines. Dr. Huff attended medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern where she graduated Alpha Omega Alpha. She completed an internal medicine residency at Washington University in St. Louis and a cardiology fellowship at U.T. Southwestern, with a focus in advanced cardiovascular imaging and noninvasive cardiology. Dr. Huff is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and was a private practice cardiologist in Fort Worth,Texas until 2011, when she became a stay-at-home mom after the birth of her daughter. Dr. Huff speaks and writes frequently about her lived experience with benzodiazepines. In 2015, she experienced adverse effects after three weeks of prescribed Xanax for insomnia. Over a three-year period, she slowly tapered off benzodiazepines utilizing Valium, and suffered protracted and disabling symptoms. Her personal experience led her to realize the serious risks of these medications and the potential severity of benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome, neither of which were emphasized during her medical training. Dr. Huff specifically advocates for better education of physicians regarding the adverse effects of benzodiazepines and how to safely taper patients off these medications. Her research interests include patient-centered benzodiazepine deprescribing and benzodiazepine-induced neurological dysfunction (BIND). In addition to her work at BIC, Dr. Huff is a member of the Colorado Consortium for Prescription Drug Abuse's Benzodiazepine Action Work Group.
