Episode 116 John Stuart spent years insisting he had been framed. Most people dismissed the claim as just another excuse from a career criminal with a long history of arrests, escapes, and bad decisions. But the attempted murder conviction that haunted Stuart's life may not have been as straightforward as it appeared. In Part 3 of our Whiskey Au Go Go series, we examine the 1965 shooting of Sydney underworld figure Jacky Steele, the conviction that transformed Stuart into a deeply paranoid man, and the conspiracy he believed followed him for the rest of his life. Along the way, Stuart develops an obsession with alibis, begins documenting his movements through postcards, befriends one of Queensland's most respected detectives, and repeatedly warns nightclub owners about the growing threat of protection rackets. As Brisbane's criminal underworld collides with allegations of police corruption, organized crime, and extortion, Stuart finds himself once again at the center of the story. The question is whether he's a whistleblower, a criminal opportunist, or something in between. Because when the Whiskey Au Go Go burns, investigators will discover that John Stuart had been warning people for months that a nightclub was going to be firebombed. The problem is that John Stuart was also the man they suspected of setting the fire. Sources for this episode include Geoff Plunkett's excellent book, The Whiskey Au Go Go Massacre: Murder, Arson and the Crime of the Century, along with contemporary reporting and historical records. It's Wednesday, June 17th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark European Christians faced 37 hate crimes in 11 countries Attacks against Christians in Europe surged last month. A report from the Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination against Christians in Europe documented the incidents.  Christians faced 37 verified hate crimes in May across 11 European countries. These incidents included arson, vandalism, physical violence, theft, and disruption of worship services. Arson attacks against Christian properties were the highest on record this year. Germany saw the most anti-Christian hate crimes followed by Italy, France, Poland, and Ireland.  More Spanish Catholics leaving  the church A report from the Spanish government found the number of Catholics in the country is falling. Over 55 percent of the Spanish population identifies as Roman Catholic, down from 90 percent in the 1980s. Meanwhile, secularism is gaining in the historically Catholic country. Forty percent of the population identifies with no religion. Catholicism did see gains among young people. Forty-seven percent of people under 25 say they are Catholic, up from 31 percent in 2023. Oil prices dropped since Trump announced peace deal with Iran Oil prices fell to the lowest levels since March on Monday. This came after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a deal with Iran to end the war between the two countries.  Prices for Brent crude oil, the global benchmark, fell nearly four percent on Monday. West Texas Intermediate crude oil prices, the benchmark for North America, fell by over five percent.  Listen to comments from President Trump. TRUMP: “I think a lot of great things are going to happen in the Middle East right now. And very importantly, the oil is plummeting down, and the stock market is shooting up like a rocket today, like record kind of numbers. “The oil has taken its biggest plunge. And we're into the low numbers, not quite back yet, but we're getting close to the numbers we were before it all started. And the main thing is that Iran will not have a nuclear weapon. They fully agree to that.” 60 U.S. abortion mills closed since January 2025 Nearly 60 American abortion mills shut down since last January. The Trump administration withheld federal grant payments from 144 Planned Parenthood locations in 20 states last year. A report from the pro-abortion Kaiser Family Foundation found that 57 Planned Parenthood locations shut down over the last 18 months.  Churchgoing kids twice as likely to attend church as adults The Institute for Family Studies released a report entitled, “Passing The Torch: How Faith Moves Across Generations.” The study found that children from churchgoing families were twice as likely to attend church as adults compared to children from non-churchgoing families.  Healthy marriages also contributed to children practicing faith in adulthood.   Psalm 71:17-18 says, “O God, from my youth You have taught me, and I still proclaim Your wondrous deeds. So, even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim Your might to another generation, Your power to all those to come.” 58 percent approve of out-of-wedlock baby today vs. 70 percent in 2022 A new survey from Gallup found that Americans are becoming more conservative on certain social issues.  Eighty-three percent of U.S. adults believe birth control is morally acceptable. But that's down from a high of 92 percent in 2022. Fifty-eight percent believe having a baby outside of marriage is acceptable, down from 70 percent in 2022. And 49 percent support abortion, down from a high of 54 percent in 2024. German and Curaçao World Cup soccer players prayed together And finally, a recent World Cup game ended with players praying together on the pitch.  Over the weekend, the German national football team faced off against the team from Curaçao. The island nation in the Caribbean is the smallest nation to qualify for the World Cup.  Germany won handily with a score of seven to one. But that didn't stop players from both teams huddling together to pray after the game.  German midfielder Felix Nmecha said, “In the game we are opponents, but after the match we are all Christians and brothers. We simply said a little prayer together because we are all very grateful.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, June 17th, in the year of our Lord 2026. Episode 115 In Part 2 of our Whiskey Au Go Go series, we leave the nightclub behind and turn our attention to the man who would become the central figure in the investigation: John Andrew Joshua Stuart. Long before the Whiskey Au Go Go fire claimed 15 lives, Stuart was already well known to police, journalists, and much of Brisbane's criminal underworld. Raised in a home marked by violence, poverty, and abuse, Stuart's life became a revolving door of arrests, reform schools, mental institutions, prison escapes, and newspaper headlines. This week, we follow Stuart's journey from troubled child to notorious criminal, exploring the brutal conditions at Westbrook Farm Home for Boys, his involvement in Australia's bodgie and widgie subculture, his repeated clashes with police, and his growing reputation as a man who always seemed to be at the center of the action. We also examine Stuart's unusual relationship with Sunday Truth reporter Brian "The Eagle" Bolton, a connection that transformed Stuart from an ordinary criminal into something far more influential: a source. Time and again, Stuart appeared to possess insider knowledge of crimes, escape plots, and events before they occurred. Sometimes he warned people. Sometimes he claimed no one listened. As police would later discover, that pattern would become impossible to ignore. Because years before the Whiskey Au Go Go burned, John Stuart had already established himself as a man who seemed to know things before they happened—and a man who desperately wanted people to pay attention. Sources for this episode include Geoff Plunkett's excellent book, The Whiskey Au Go Go Massacre: Murder, Arson and the Crime of the Century, along with contemporary reporting and historical records. If past practice is any guide, Chinese dictator Xi Jinping's state visit to North Korea yesterday afforded an opportunity for more  “strategic arson” aimed at distracting the United States from his increasing preparations for acquiring Taiwan via force if coercive pressure and/or elections don't have that effect. That could entail a manufactured ratcheting up of tensions with South Korea now controlled by another of Xi's Communist allies, President Lee Jae-Myung. He's long wanted to remove U.S. forces from the peninsula and would probably happily play along with a bit of PRC-directed theater to do so to avert a Potemkin crisis. Another ominous possibility is that Xi covertly directed Kim to join him in rearming Iran, building on their Chinese-approved collaboration on nuclear weapons by transferring one or more of them from Kim's burgeoning arsenal to Tehran.   Brace for impact. Episode 114 In March 1973, a firebomb ripped through Brisbane's Whisky Au Go Go nightclub, killing 15 people and injuring many more in one of Australia's deadliest nightclub fires. But according to one man, the tragedy wasn't a surprise. Months before the fire, career criminal John Stuart had been warning police, reporters, and nightclub owners that organized crime was planning a series of nightclub firebombings. First an empty club. Then a crowded one. Most dismissed the warnings as the paranoid ramblings of a convicted criminal. Then an empty nightclub called the Torinos was firebombed. Less than two weeks later, the Whisky Au Go Go burned. In Part 1 of this series, we examine the Brisbane nightclub scene of the early 1970s, the layout and fire safety issues inside the Whisky Au Go Go, the events of the March 8, 1973 fire, and the disturbing warnings that suddenly made investigators ask one question: How did John Stuart know? Hello to you listening in Pristina, Kosovo! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. The things we take for granted, like a song we've heard over and over. I wondered: what's the story behind “I Won't Back Down” by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers?  "I Won't Back Down" was born from sheer defiance after a targeted act of arson in May 1987 burned Tom Petty's Los Angeles home to the ground. Petty refused to move away. Instead, he rebuilt on the same plot of land and channeled his trauma into a song of defiance. The message of resilience in the face of adversity became a universal mantra for overcoming any struggle.     Maybe like me you've acted against your own better wisdom, saying 'yes' instead of 'no', going along to get along, or something else. You know what I'm talking about. Maybe like me you finally figured out a better way to live. We've got just one life. In a world that keeps pushing us around we stand our ground, we won't back down! Story Prompt: When have you backed down because someone or something was pushing you around? No more.  You know how to stand your ground! Today, Chinese emperor Xi Jinping accorded his vassal, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, the same red-carpet treatment Donald Trump got last week. Despite assertions that the President's pomp-and-circumstance was evidence of respect that offset Xi's several affronts and otherwise aggressive attitude, the message is clear: China's ruler is actually an enemy.  That reality was central to a PresentDangerChina.org webinar on Monday which critically examined last week's Beijing summit and its outcomes. Our experts agreed that Xi's regime is in acute political, economic and strategic difficulty, if not extremis, and that Mr. Trump has considerable leverage. But that can translate into heightened danger.  That's especially the case if the Xi-Putin meeting fits a pattern of such summits serving as preludes to joint “strategic arson.” If Xi feels emboldened to act against Taiwan, giving Russia its marching orders would be a precursor.  Watch this space. This is Frank Gaffney.

A textile factory is reduced to ashes, and what starts as a routine arson investigation quickly spirals into a web of corporate greed, fraud, and betrayal. But as the smoke clears, he realizes the case might hit closer to home than he ever imagined. Today, his prediction has become reality - firebombings terrorise suburban streets, borders are breached daily, and innocent people are being murdered as a result of the multi-billion-dollar black market. In this episode of I Catch Killers, Rohan takes us inside Australia's self-inflicted tobacco wars, revealing how violent crime syndicates smuggle millions of illicit tobacco products into the country every day, why current enforcement strategies are failing, and what it will take to stop this rapidly escalating crisis before more lives are lost.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Tonight on The Conway Show, the 8 PM hour starts with some good news out of Orange County, where six inspiring educators have been honored as Teachers of the Year. Among them is Brittany Walters, a longtime kindergarten teacher at Dr. Peter Marshall Elementary in the Magnolia School District, recognized for hands-on learning and her focus on the emotional needs of young students. Then Conway turns to the massive Ontario warehouse fire, where the burned-out Kimberly-Clark distribution center is set for demolition after a devastating six-alarm blaze allegedly started by a worker in April. Officials say the 1.2-million-square-foot site remains a major hazard even weeks after the fire. At 8:20, Los Angeles leaders announce a major crackdown on organized burglary crews, with more than 100 suspects arrested as LAPD says burglaries are down significantly from last year. Conway breaks down what it means for homeowners, businesses, and public safety across L.A. At 8:35, the show digs into the disturbing black market for Uber, Lyft, and DoorDash driver accounts, where accounts are being rented or sold online, allowing people to bypass background checks and identity verification. Then at 8:50, Conway looks ahead to the 2026 FIFA World Cup at SoFi Stadium, where many Los Angeles-area hotels say bookings are below expectations despite the city hosting multiple matches. Industry reports point to high ticket prices, visa delays, and expensive hotel rates as major factors. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In June 1998, eight year old Robbie Middleton was attacked in the woods behind his Texas neighborhood,. He was then doused in gasoline, and set on fire in what investigators would later describe as one of the most horrifying attacks they had ever seen. Burned over nearly 99 percent of his body, Robbie somehow survived and spent the next thirteen years enduring more than 150 surgeries while the person accused of attacking him remained free. Then just before his death in 2011, Robbie gave a final videotaped statement identifying the person who was responsible and revealed information that changed the entire direction of the case. What followed was a legal battle involving a record breaking civil verdict, a reopened homicide investigation, and a murder trial nearly seventeen years after the fire itself. Our other podcast: "FEARFUL" - https://open.spotify.com/show/56ajNkLiPoIat1V2KI9n5c?si=OyM38rdsSSyyzKAFUJpSywMERCH:https://www.redbubble.com/people/wickedandgrim/shop?asc=uPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/wickedandgrim?fan_landing=trueYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@wickedlifeFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/wickedandgrim/ Instagram:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wickedandgrim/?hl=enTwitter: https://twitter.com/wickedandgrimWebsite: https://www.wickedandgrim.com/

They note Kimberly-Clark distributes paper goods and that the facility held about 3% of its U.S. capacity serving roughly 50 million people. The fire reportedly began around 12:30 AM during a graveyard shift with about 20 employees present; everyone escaped without casualties, and the suspected arsonist—described as a disgruntled employee of a third-party logistics operator—allegedly live-streamed igniting pallets before leaving and later being arrested.
