On Father's Day Weekend in 1969, six-year-old Dennis Martin was camping with his family near Spence Field in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park when he vanished without a trace, leading to one of the largest searches in the history of the National Park Service. Tragically, he was never found, and the disappearance of Dennis Lloyd Martin remains unresolved after more than half a century. In recent years, renewed interest in the case has led to speculations about a possible kidnapping, as well as theories that an "Appalachian wild man" akin to Sasquatch may have been involved. Such theories focus on the testimony provided by the late Harold Key and his family, who observed an individual in the park under odd circumstances that unfolded on the same day as the disappearance of Dennis Lloyd Martin. In this special episode of Sasquatch Tracks, the team takes a deep dive into the details of the disappearance, discussing a recent Hulu series that discusses the kidnapping theory and its possible relevance to what some witnesses liken to wild men or even "apelike" creatures inhabiting the remotest portions of our National Parks. We examine the evidence for this, along with several alternative explanations for the disappearance, and what U.S. government documents and independent research into the landmark search and rescue case reveal. Gooood Saturday morning! Here's what James Clary covers today: Have you heard of the Missing 411? David Paulides is a former police officer who is now an investigator and writer known for his books dedicated to proving the reality of Bigfoot, and establishing the Missing 411. Missing 411 is a series of books and films, which document cases of people who have gone missing in national parks and elsewhere, and assert that these cases are unusual and mysterious. Typically those who go missing are: missing clothes or clothes are found neatly folded near the body, some type of weather event happens shortly after they go missing, and they go missing around 4 - 5 p.m. James tells the story of 6-year-old Dennis Lloyd Martin. Martin went missing in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park after he was playing hide and seek with several children also visiting the park. He was last seen by his father going behind a bush to hide. After not seeing him for about five minutes, his father became concerned and began searching for him. His father ran down the trail for nearly two miles, until he was sure he could not have gotten any farther. A downpour broke out shortly after Martin's disappearance, dropping about 3 inches of rain. Dennis was never found. James also tells the story of 2-year-old Deorr Kunz Jr. who disappeared July 10, 2015, while visiting Timber Creek Campground, east of Challis, Idaho. Deorr was never found. The death of Henry McCabe is one of the most mysterious 411 deaths to date, and that's because there is a weird voicemail that McCabe left.

Few perennial mysteries intrigue us more than people who vanish. Throughout history, there have been countless examples of cases involving individuals who went missing under unusual circumstances, many of which were never found. But are there truly any cases that point to extraordinary phenomena that could have been related to people's disappearances? In this installment of The Micah Hanks Program, following a review of recent UFO-related news, we take a critical look at several modern disappearances and the purported high strangeness that is often associated with such incidents, along with what U.S. crime statistics say. Finally, we address the question of whether unidentified aerial phenomena has actually ever been linked to cases where individuals have vanished under odd circumstances. Our first destination is the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains National Park so that Ian can tell us about four disturbing cold case disappearances. This one creeped out Ian more than any story he has told yet.Next, we return to Africa because Ben has yet another murderous animal to showcase. It isn't a crocodile or more lions, though. And lastly, our editor Michael hops on the mic to take us to Eastern Europe and witness the brutality, intelligence, and sheer balls it took for one woman to rise to power and be canonized as a Saint. On June 14th, 1969 Dennis Lloyd Martin disappeared from Spence Field in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. He was on his first overnight camping trip, part of the long Martin family tradition of Father’s Day outings in the Smokies. While playing with his brother and friends, Dennis would run into the forest a short distance away, be out of sight for no more than a few minutes, only to never be seen again. Over the course of the following month, the largest and most extensive search and rescue operation ever conducted by the park would take place. Utilizing 1,400 searchers that would log almost 31,500 man hours, helicopters, and relentlessly combing over a 56 square mile area, they would find no discernible trace of six year old Dennis. Our final Great Smoky Mountain National Park case investigates the disappearance of Dennis Lloyd Martin, a 7 year old boy.
On this special edition of the program, after touching on news stories that include a significant report that was leaked by news services in Canada recently on missing Indigenous women and children, we then turn our attention to a case that has long held our fascination, involving the disappearance of a small boy in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in 1969. Dennis Lloyd Martin was six-years-old at the time of his disappearance, and vanished while camping with his family at the Spence Field Shelter in near Cades Cove. Despite a search effort that would prove to be the largest in National Park Service history, searchers were unable to find Dennis Martin, nor any clear indication of what might have happened to him. During a recent visit to the rugged mountains where Martin vanished 50 years ago, Micah and his colleague Jason visited the location where Dennis was last seen and noted several key elements about the location with relevance to the case, and how it has been reported over the years. Are there still things we can learn about a “cold case” like this even half a century later? Then in the second hour, we are joined by Michael Bouchard, author of the book Forever Searching: Lost in the Smoky Mountains (1969 Cold Case File Dennis Lloyd Martin). Bouchard has more than three decades of experience in law enforcement and has been involved in numerous investigations of missing person cases. He brings his knowledge and experience to the discussion, as we discuss one of the most perplexing disappearances ever to have occurred in our National Parks.
