In this episode of the Terribly Vexed Podcast, we tackle the aftermath of the recent election and the ever-growing sense of division in American politics. With Donald Trump continuing to stir the pot, we discuss how political discourse seems to have evolved into something more akin to professional wrestling—entertainment over substance, where it's less about solving problems and more about creating chaos for the masses. As the conversation unfolds, we explore whether voting still has any real impact in a system that feels increasingly rigged. Are figures like BlackRock and Vanguard really the ones in control? Are these financial giants quietly calling the shots behind the scenes while the public remains distracted by partisan squabbles? And with so much focus on the two-party system, is there any hope for a third party to break through, or is the game already stacked against them? We'd like to thank Camel Cigarettes for sponsoring this episode. Camel Cigarettes: A little breath of freedom, one puff at a time. Thank you for listening to the podcast. In the early hours of December 26th, 1980, a security patrol at the east gate of Royal Air Force Woodbridge spotted lights descending into a small pine forest bordering the base. Believing it was a downed civilian aircraft, a small team was assembled and sent to investigate and render assistance. As the team approached the lights, their radios began to malfunction, the air became electrically charged, animals at the nearby farms went into a frenzy, and walking became difficult. “Like walking in deep water.”  Two of the men pressed on and arrived at a small clearing where the bright lights had seemed to stop moving. There was a massive silent explosion of bright white light. One of the two men was left in a trance-like state while the other approached a small, black, triangular shaped craft hovering above the forest floor. It appeared to be made of seamless opaque black glass and was covered in symbols that looked like hieroglyphs. As he ran his fingers over the surface of the strange symbols, the craft began to slowly ascend through the trees and took off into the sky at an “impossible” speed. That was only the beginning. Often referred to as Britain's Roswell, the Rendlesham Forest Incident is one of the most well documented UFO cases in history. Join us as we explore the case in more detail and discuss some of the more wild tales that have emerged since 1980 including a possible government cover-up, a binary code from the future, and a possible close encounter of the third kind. Unraveling the Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 24, 2023 110:34

In the summer of 1849, 40 year old Edgar Allan Poe embarked on a lecture tour, he planned to raise money to start his own literary magazine. By the autumn of that year Poe was nearing the end of his journey and on September 27, 1849, Poe left Richmond, Virginia on his way home back to New York City. No reliable evidence exists concerning his whereabouts until a week later on October 3rd, when he was found delirious in Baltimore at Ryan's Tavern (sometimes referred to as Gunner's Hall). A printer named Joseph Walker sent a letter requesting help to Dr. Joseph E. Snodgrass, an acquaintance of Poe. Snodgrass's first-hand account describes Poe's appearance as "repulsive", with unkempt hair, a haggard, unwashed face and "lusterless and vacant" eyes. His clothing, Snodgrass said, which included a dirty shirt but no vest and unpolished shoes, was worn and did not fit well. Dr. John Joseph Moran, who was Poe's attending physician, gave his own detailed account of Poe's appearance that day and would later give another account of Poe's condition during the brief time in his care, but both the accounts of Snodgrass and Moran should, to some degree, be considered somewhat dubious, no official record explaining his death has ever been found. Poe was methodical and decisive as a writer and critic, at times arrogantly confident in his own abilities, and perhaps rightly so, but life's many troubles had left him with a grief stricken mind and in turn he would often resort to infrequent binges with alcohol and drugs to numb himself from the struggles he regularly faced. Most Poe scholars would argue, however, this doesn't mean his mysterious disappearance and unusual reemergence was a botched suicide attempt. Theories abound as to what may have been the ultimate cause of Poe's demise, from hypoglycemia, tuberculosis, to rabies, a brain tumor, diabetes, syphilis, delirium tremens, epilepsy and meningeal inflammation. Other theories include the possibility of lead, mercury, and or similar toxic heavy-metal poisoning that people were routinely exposed to in the 1800's. One of the more unusual, however probable theories involved a form of election fraud, quite popular during that time, known as “cooping.” Join us as we attempt to unravel the mysterious death of Edgar Allan Poe! Conspiracy theory and parapoltics are synonymous with each other; it was a conspiracy that lead to the assassination of JFK, but it was the covert nature of hidden parapolitical movements that implemented the nefarious plot. From something as simple as the color of the mud on a patients shoes Dr. Bell could deduce a patients occupation, where he or she lived, and which boat had ferried them that morning. As a writer, Conan Doyle was inspired by Dr. Bell's "method" and created a character that has become a household name, and one of the most popular detectives of all time. Josh and Kevin have known each other since the earliest days of elementary school, and in a recent conversation Kevin suggested that we do an episode on newly rediscovered species being found around the world that were thought to be extinct. In this episode, Kevin explains how a lot of these discoveries are made and applies his own reasoned knowledge and experience to the controversial study of cryptozoology and the possibility of even stranger, more unusual, and yet unconfirmed creatures existing in the vast reaches of the yet unexplored regions of the Earth. On this episode of the Terribly Vexed Podcast, Josh and Justin talk about the infamous Dyatlov Pass Incident. In January of 1959, nine experienced hikers, led by Igor Dyatlov, lost their lives in the Ural Mountains of Northern Russia. The odd evidence left behind and the gruesome remains of the hikers has spawned controversy, conspiracy theories, documentaries, movies, books, and podcasts in the sixty-three years since the events took place. To this day there has not been an official explanation as to what actually occurred that evening. Since most people listening to this type of podcast already know the details of the incident, the fellas give a quick overview of the case, but mainly discuss the latest investigation that took place in 2019. Other popular theories are discussed as well. We hope you enjoy the show! As always, if you enjoy the podcast or have any feedback, please rate, review, and subscribe on iTunes. The Moon-Eyed People

On this episode of the Terribly Vexed podcast we take a look at the mysteries surrounding the "Moon-Eyed People" and the ancient ruins they left behind. Numerous historical accounts testify to the fact that the Cherokee said a race of light skinned, blue eyed, white people that could see only under the cover of night, lived in the mountains of the Appalachia before they arrived. Both the Creek and the Cherokee legends speak of the battles they engaged in against the ‘Moon-Eyes’ and how they eventually drove them out of the region. One thing is certain, they existed, but who were they? Could they have been the descendants of the Welsh Prince Madoc, who may have landed in the area of Mobile Bay in 1170, or were they another unknown tribe of people now altogether lost to antiquity? Remnants of their lost civilization still remain today. Located atop Fort Mountain near Chatsworth, Georgia, a 900 foot stone wall snakes around the mountainside, its origins have baffled archaeologists, geologists, and historians for generations. Scholars suggest its construction may date back to 400 A.D., but theories abound as to when it may have actually been constructed and what purpose it served its builders. A sacred place of worship, a defensive structure for Spanish explorers, or does the mountain itself contain some unknown cosmological significance? The Ariel School UFO Encounter

In this episode of the podcast we discuss one of the most significant alien encounter cases in recent history, the Ariel School mass UFO encounter that took place in Ruwa, Zimbabwe. On the morning of Friday, September 16th, 1994 over sixty children at the private elementary school saw several UFOs and one or more "strange beings" just outside their schoolyard during recess. The students, five to twelve years of age, gathered at the site of the craft and became transfixed on the beings as they began communicating with the children by way of, what can only be described as, telepathic transmission. Most all the children received thoughts and mental images of mankind's destruction and armageddon caused by our ever growing reliance upon technology. To this day, none of the students have ever recounted their story. As always, if you enjoy the podcast or have any feedback, please rate, review, and subscribe on iTunes. On June 14th, 1969 Dennis Lloyd Martin disappeared from Spence Field in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. He was on his first overnight camping trip, part of the long Martin family tradition of Father’s Day outings in the Smokies. While playing with his brother and friends, Dennis would run into the forest a short distance away, be out of sight for no more than a few minutes, only to never be seen again. Over the course of the following month, the largest and most extensive search and rescue operation ever conducted by the park would take place. Utilizing 1,400 searchers that would log almost 31,500 man hours, helicopters, and relentlessly combing over a 56 square mile area, they would find no discernible trace of six year old Dennis.
