Photo by Mikey Frost on Unsplash Published 8 June 2026 e556 with Michael, Andy and Michael – Michael R's annual edu-cation, chatbot trickery, data center data visualization, LeRobot Humanoid open source robotics, LEGO and a whole lot more! Michael, Andy and Michael get things started with Michael R's annual edu-cation, Apple's World Wide Developer Conference.   Then the team turns to a news story about tricking Meta's support chatbot into granting access to Instagram accounts.  This is not a new tactic – check out e429 for a link to try this out for yourself with lakera.ai‘s Gandalf game. Next up is a data visualization for data centers across the United States.  And then, a solution for the energy needs of a data center: CrankGPT.  And harkening back to the earlier chatbot trickery, there's a GitHub repo to get Chipotle's chatbot Pepper to write python code and more.  Then, the team considers an article from The Atlantic that spells out a contrarian view that this is in fact the best time for a computer science degree. A new robotics story captured the team's attention – the LeRobot Humanoid.  Hugging Face developed this robotic set of legs as an accessible, low cost, open humanoid (well, humanoid legs) robot.  Another intriguing maker project is a 3D book that has printed on it's pages the machine code needed to fabricate itself.    Wrapping up the episode, the team takes a look at some of the newest LEGO sets featuring Gaudi's architecture and SmartPlay sets featuring Nintendo's Pokemon.   What would you like to have your LeRobot do?  Have your bots

For nearly three decades, Jonah Goldberg has rightly abused Canada for its many crimes: its adoption of the metric system, slanderous contentions about bacon, and dubious claim to Machias Seal Island, to name a few. Recent events have put Jonah in a more conciliatory mood, however, and he has resolved to bring more of our northern neighbors on the show.  Today's token Canadian, Michael R.J. Bonner, joins The Remnant to talk about his recent book on liberalism. Michael and Jonah run the gamut, talking about Steven Pinkerism, liberalism's virgin birth, Cold War liberalism, the Rawlsian turn, postliberal criticisms, subsidiarity, modern progressivism, John Stuart Mill, the religion of humanity, left-wing violence, third worldism, Justin Trudeau's lack of self-understanding, and the war in Iran.  Show Notes: —Michael R.J. Photo by Valérie Ungerer on Unsplash Published 18 May 2026 e554 with Michael and Michael – stories and discussion on LLM phone number lookups, proctors returning to Princeton, lavish LEGO, LOTR and a whole lot more! While Andy is away, Michael and Michael get things started with a discussion on the changing nature of sensitive and private information.  What was once published in a phonebook is now a central identify hub.  While Jenny most certainly had to change her phone number from 867-5309 and have the new one unlisted, she likely posts what would have been very personal photos on Insta, Mastodon or any number of social media services.  Michael R points out that while a phone book was available for a municipality, it was not available at a country level, preserving a degree of anonymity. Continuing on the theme of social implications of technology, Michael and Michael consider the Atlantic's article about the demise of Princeton's honor code process.  Check out the link below for some fantastic quotes from the Daily Princetonian – sadly the newspaper online archives only go back to 2001. Next up is an article from Thinking Machines' full duplex capabilities for natural voice interaction with agents.   LEGO is in focus for this episode (surprise!) with two intriguing sets.  First, a super cool LEGO Ideas Tetris arcade game cabinet with a hidden room.  This reminded Michael M of the set he built that also has a cool hidden room inside.  Then, Michael R shares a bit on the new Minas Tirith set – which has many elements from the movies, and includes the opportunity for a GWP (gift with purchase) of the battering ram Grond if you're one of the first to plunk down your gold pieces for this build. The fact that this is up on the Internets on 18 May is due to the hard work from Andy.  He migrated our hosting over the weekend, and this is the first post on the new service.  Hurrah, Andy!   Do you still have a copy of your city's phonebook?  Have your bots (or agents!)

The NCO Corps does not need compliant Soldiers. It needs committed warfighters. On this episode of the Your Next Mission® video podcast, 12th Sergeant Major of the Army (R) Jack L. Tilley sits down with 17th Sergeant Major of the Army Michael R. Weimer to break down exactly what turns compliance into commitment and why the difference is the why. Two SMAs. Zero filters. The truth that every Soldier, NCO, Veteran and Military Family needs to hear right now. SMA Weimer said it straight. "You could be really fit, really tough, and still be a one trick leader". And in 2026 that is not enough. The NCO Corps needs Soldiers who are adaptive, curious, continuously learning and committed from the inside out. Not because they have to be. Because they understand why they should be.These two leaders go beyond the manual to discuss merit-based retention, Transforming in Contact, and how the Army is using Artificial Intelligence to update doctrine at light speed. Whether you are an active duty NCO or a Veteran transitioning to civilian life, this is the "No Filter" truth about the state of the force. What you will hear in this episodeWhy SMA Weimer says brilliance at the basics is the only foundation that makes technology lethalHow Transforming in Contact is putting new equipment directly into the hands of Soldiers and taking real time feedback on the spotWhy the Army's new merit-based retention strategy is finally rewarding committed Soldiers instead of treating everyone the sameWhat the journey from compliance to commitment actually looks like across a 20 to 30 year careerWhy adaptability and continuous learning are the most critical skills for the NCO of 2026 and beyondHow Combined Arms Center is using artificial intelligence to update doctrine and training at a speed this Army has never seen beforeWhat SMA Weimer witnessed at minus 20 degrees in Alaska that made him proud of this generation of NCOsWhy the warrior mindset that made you successful in uniform will make you successful the day you take it offThe honest truth about barracks healthcare and food strategy and what Army leadership is doing about it right nowWhy leaders who explain the why are the ones who turn compliant Soldiers into committed war fightersWhat both SMAs say every young Sergeant must master that is completely different from what was required of their generationHow home station training before CTC rotations is transforming readiness across the entire forceWhy you cannot be a one trick leader in today's Army and what that means for your career right nowWhat SMA Weimer means when he says the Army is on a war path to eliminate ridiculous rules so Soldiers can train and fightWhat is the difference between a compliant Soldier and a committed Soldier? How do Army leaders build commitment in their Soldiers? What does SMA Weimer say about NCO leadership in 2026?How do you turn a compliant Soldier into a committed war fighter? What is merit-based retention and how is the Army changing it?How does the Army use artificial intelligence in NCO training today? What is Transforming in Contact and how does it impact Soldiers? What skills does a sergeant need in 2026 that were never required before? How do you build trust with this generation of Soldiers? What is the journey from compliance to commitment in the Army? How is the Army updating doctrine faster using artificial intelligence? What did SMA Weimer say about NCO grit and the next generation? How does home station training prepare Soldiers before CTC rotations? What is Combined Arms Center doing with artificial intelligence right now? What does every battalion Sergeant Major need to be doing before a Soldier reaches their ETS window? How does the warrior mindset translate from military service to civilian life? What is the Army doing about barracks healthcare and food strategy for Soldiers and Families? How do you go from one enlistment to 20 plus years of committed service?

Photo by NEOM on Unsplash Published 23 March 2026 e548 with Michael and Michael – Stories and discussion on uncomfortable valley & uncanny valley, Nintendo's Talking Flower, 8bit Pixel Agents for AI orchestration and a whole lot more. Michael and Michael get things rolling while Andy is away on an article discussing the animated emojis in Microsoft Teams.  Fast Company article author Rebecca Heilweil describes these emojis as the ‘uncomfortable valley' due to the animations that imbue the emojis shared in Teams with potentially unintended additional meaning.  Check out the link for a comparison graphic showing the similarities and differences between the uncanny and uncomfortable valleys. Switching to robotic animation, Michael and Michael take a look at Nintendo's Talking Flower, which reminds them of the Alarmo alarm clock.  Next, a digital camera that provides mini quests that are satisfied by taking a picture of “a tiny thing” or “a hidden face”. Turning to AI, the co-hosts check out Pixel Agents, an 8bit representation of agents allowing the human orchestrator to monitor all the agents performing their tasks in a concurrent manner.  Michael R highlights a Mac local orchestrator called Osaurus.  Rounding out this week's episode is a Washington Post about jobs that AI may take on, a story about ChatGPT assisting with cancer research, and an intriguing video about Devo. By the time she was 14, Marina would be introduced to Jeffrey Epstein, a man that seemed to symbolize success and wealth, but only added to her trauma. Eventually, Marina would play a part in both of the FBI's attempts at justice in 2008 and 2019, when during the latter, she would be dubbed, “Minor Victim 1.” Marina's journey is a testament to the impact of the cycle of abuse, but it also is a testament to her personal resilience and strength. Michael R brings back Ian Hughes to discuss the recent changes with Meta’s VR investments, cool content on Apple’s Vision Pro, the new Creator Studio bundle, and 25 years of Wikipedia. While Andy and Michael M are not available we look at how large companies cutting back on innovation can allow new startups and companies to flourish. With Meta refocusing more on wearables, perhaps we will see an uptick in innovative uses for VR. Which is a perfect sequel way for Michael to given his review of the NBA’s recent basketball game on the Vision Pro. The experience seemed to him to be the perfect onramp for Michael M, if it were college basketball. We then review a few older games (Civilization VII and RetroCade), coming to Apple Arcade, before looking at the Board Tabletop Gaming Console. With all this cool tech, Michael introduces Ian to the Apple Creator Studio. Is it worth it? Ian, having recently built an AI server at home via ComfyUI, thinks it may be cheap enough for his pocketbook. Finally we get to Wikipedia’s 25th anniversary, and what Ian did on the Cool Stuff Collective for Wikipedia’s 15th Anniversary. Photo by Tim Wildsmith on Unsplash Published 24 November 2025 e534 with Michael, Andy and Michael – AI and ML training data, camouflage, ppen source Zork, Deadpool VR, NPH movies and a whole lot more. Michael, Andy and Michael start things off with with an intriguing AI analysis of the heist from the Louvre. The Ars Technica article takes the examples of mathematical machine learning and human psychology to show how both were defeated what was considered to be ordinary versus suspicious. This is a terrific reminder on the importance of the training data sets used for AI models and how the “performance of normality became the perfect camouflage”. Michael R highlights the On Intelligence book, and Michael M brings up visual pattern recognition of the human form which ghillie suits help disguise. Switching to a hackster.io article, the die is cast – or rather the die is 3d printed. Andy shares his thoughts on this bluetooth enabled die, and mentions how dice have featured prominently in the the podcast over the years. E132 from 2016 appears to be the earliest reference to dice in the show notes. Next up is Microsoft's announcement to open source the Zork family of text based adventure games from Infocom. Zork is another favorite of the podcast, and e78 from 2014 is the earliest reference! Then the team discusses the Deadpool VR game. The Kotaku article mentions that Neil Patrick Harris does the Deadpool voice acting in the game. This leads the cohosts down the rabbit hole of NPH acting with a number of movies and TV shows. Oh, and the reason for the “I don't want a McRib” part of the show title was because the Kotaku article kept serving up McDonalds McRib ads to Michael M, while Michael R with his PiHole does not get such ads.
