In the latest and thoroughly overdue episode of The Carmudgeon Show, the boys spend an hour or so discussing their latest video projects: Jason's just released Icons episode about the G80 M3 (which necessitates revisiting the E30 M3 and E46 M3 and of course the W201 Mercedes 190E 2.3-16), and Derek's upcoming BTS with DTS episodes about the Lexus LFA and NA1 Honda NSX-R. They also discuss the recent rally they attended, which was not without drama (one car flew off a cliff) and their preferred type of driving and how certain cars are and aren't suited to that. On that topic, Jason and Derek compare notes about the first generation NSX; Jason isn't a huge fan, while Derek described the NSX-R as one of the best drives he's ever had. In fact, Jason took a cashier's check to buy a US-market NSX and came home empty handed because he wasn't enthusiastic enough about how it drove. The Carmudgeon Show is a comedic, information-filled conversation with Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott, two car enthusiasts who are curmudgeonly beyond their years. Proving you don't have to be old to be grumpy, they spend each episode talking about what's wrong with various parts of the automotive universe. Despite their best efforts to keep it negative, they usually wind up laughing, happy, and extolling their love for cars. Which just makes them angrier and more bitter.ISSIMI is an enthusiast-owned, full-service specialist offering sales, consignment, collection management, service, and consulting to discerning enthusiasts and collectors. Jason's deeply technical understanding, made possible by a lifelong obsession with cars, allows him to fully digest what's going on within an automobile — and then put it into simple terms for others to understand. Also, a Master's Degree in Law trained him to be impossible to argue with.Derek Tam-Scott still tries. We review our latest high performance driving education (HPDE) event at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) in Millville, New Jersey.  We had four drivers at the event from our team.  Jennifer, Vicki, and Liam were in the HPDE 2 run group for this weekend and Bill was in the HPDE 3-4 group.  We each learned quite a bit a this event and we are all better drivers after.     On this episode’s Dominating with Dawson, Ben goes into the acronym OSB, which is sometimes used to describe someone in a learning environment where it stands for “Other Sports Beckon”.  We all firmly believe that anyone can learn how to drive at a track or an autocross event.  While there are differences in everyone at the rate that they learn, or their initial skill/experience level, literally everyone can get to a very proficient level if they take an approach of learning and are willing to put in the effort to improve.  We then move into the area of how different teaching approaches are better able to match with different student personalities and how the needs of the student may change as their experience and skill level progresses. You can subscribe to our podcast on the podcast provider of your choice, including the Apple podcast app, Google music, Amazon, and YouTube etc.  Also, if you could give our podcast a (5-star?) rating or even better, a podcast review, we would greatly appreciate it and it would help us to grow the passion and sport of high performance driving. For instance, leaving an Apple Podcast rating is very easy.  If you go to your podcast library, under shows and click on the podcast you can leave a (5?) star rating and enter your review.  A link to the episode is: https://tinyurl.com/NJMPHPDEMay2021   We hope you enjoy this episode! PS  Please don’t forget that if you are looking to add an Apex Pro to your driving telemetry system, don’t forget to use our discount code for all Apex Pro systems you will receive a free Windshield Suction Cup Mount for the system, a savings of $40.  Just enter the code “ghitlikesapex!” when you order.  They are a great system and truly invaluable in safely increasing your speed on track and/or autocross etc.  The recently released second generation systems and app increases the capability of the system greatly. Best regards, Vicki, Jennifer, Alan, and Bill Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training Podcast and Garage Heroes In Training racing team drivers Highlights from this episode include: 1) Car reviews:  Jennifer was in a 2019 ND.2 Mazda Miata with the stock OEM Continental tires and brakes.  Liam was in his 2017 Toyota 86 TRD with Hankook RS4 tires and Raybestos ST-43 racing pads.  Vicki was in her 1999 NB Miata with a Flyin’ Miata Turbo, Hankook RS4 tires and Raybestos ST-43 racing pads.  Bill was in his 2004 BMW E46 M3 with yellow Pagid brake pads and Michelin Pilot SuperSport 4 tires. 2)  Telemetry we used for this event:  Apex Pro and Garmin Catalysts. 3)  How we owe our friends Jeff and Jim from the Three Pedal Mafia for saving our weekend by letting us use their family’s RV.  Let's just summarize by saying our prep for the vent did not go as planned.  Situation normal. 4)  Vicki’s prep to her turbo NB Miata did not go as planned before the event and at the event, but we did a few adjustments and all went well.  It should be back up and running for our HPDE at Mid Ohio this coming weekend.  Pro tip, do not try to adjust your harness while the car is running. 5)  Vicki and Jennifer’s thoughts on being in HPDE 2 vs HPDE 1.  It was Vicki’s second time in HPDE 2 and Jennifer and Liam's first time in HPDE 2.  We also go into some of the differences in the HPDE’s between this event and some of the other organizations we have attended. 6)  Let's talk about point by’s at every post stint debrief, lol. 7)  Vicki’s impressions of driving the E46 M3 on track for the first time. 8)  We go over our goals going into the event and how we did during the event and what we learned over this weekend.  We also go into some of the challenges we each face as we progress and grow as drivers on the track. 9)  Liam pops in for a quick summary towards the end with his thoughts on the weekend.  He also had a great time at the event and finally had a chance to be on track with the Garmin Catalyst.

We thought we would get a short podcast out to update how the day has gone and what we have been doing today.  Jennifer is in the Soul Red 2019 Mazda MX5 (Miata) ND2 and is in HPDE 1 this weekend.  Vicki is in her first HPDE 2 and, as always is driving her 1999 Mazda Miata with the Flyin' Miata turbo.  Bill finally found an HPDE car that he can fit into that wasn't stolen (yet) by the girls, a 2004 BMW E46 M3.  The day went very well and we all learned from the time on track.  We cover highs and lows and end with a short story time from Bill about the last stint of the day.  This will cover Saturday and we will likely have a longer episode covering the whole event in the future.   If you are here, please say hi.  Jennifer actually ran into a listener in her HPDE class.   Also, if you happen to have some race pads for an E46 M3, Bill has cash money.

Christina Lam is a racing driver for several series, is an instructor for Skip Barber and NASA, as well as a frequent contributor to Grass Roots Motorsports magazine.  We first started following her as her “After A Crash” 9-part series started a few months back and became instant fans of her approach and her dedication to racing, education, and giving back to the racing community.  On this episode, we go over how she started to be involved from a point of little knowledge and car/racing influences to where she is not only competing at national events, podiuming many times, and instructing others to improve their skills.  It is a fantastic and quite rapid journey from newbie to racing veteran and her latest challenge last season will inspire you and hopefully get you to reach further towards ever higher goals.    On our Dominating with Dawson, Ben goes over the difference in driving approaches for endurance racing, autocross, as well as various types of sprint racing.    We hope you enjoy the episode!   Best regards,   Bill, Vicki, Jennifer, and Alan Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training podcast and team members in the GHiT Immature Endurance Racing Team   Highlights from the episode include: 1)  We have had a long, long work week in the garage, so long that Vicki blanked on her name for a moment and Bill can’t spell SCCA, lol. 2)  How she started off racing in Autocross one weekend and then had the opportunity of a lifetime drop in her lap a short time later (driving on a little place known as The ’Ring). 3)  Christina’s first time on track was her first time driving a stick.  This may be a good rival for what we ended up doing to Jennifer at her first race at Thompson Speedway.  Not our best plan, but we did learn from it. 4)  We share post-race hangover stories and several great ideas for further race cross training.  Rally, V8 supercars, Ice racing, so much fun to be had, so little time. 5)  What is involved with being a one-person team and how she accomplishes all that is required for a race weekend.  The big key is prep.  Second rule, prep.  If you need a third rule, be prepped early. 6)  We go into her accident last year and how she recovered, both physically and mentally, as well as her new race car. 7)  What is involved with an SCCA protest 8)  How Christina found her #46 M3 shell to start her new build 9)  How much sleep she lost while working to prep for new car the upcoming 2019 national SCCA Runoffs in 60 days. 10)  Christina goes into the plusses and minuses of an E46 M3 vs E46 330’s etc 11)  Christina shares some of her nerves and almost PTSD after the wreck, what she had to work through and  getting back into the car on track at VIR 12)  What it is like being a female in a predominantly male sport at the track. 13)  How Christina’s first car quickly turned into a second car.   Honorable mentions and sponsors that have helped Christina along the way: Drive Gear Racing:  for arrive and drive ice racing.  Seems like a terribly great idea.
