About Ryan Shehan and Ryan Shehan Racing: Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport sophomore Ryan Shehan scored his first F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda win this past weekend in the first race of a triple header at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP). The young driver has been a breakout star this season claiming podium after podium and those following him have been waiting with bated breath for this moment. Shehan's first F4 career win comes from a penalty assessed to the winner of race one, moving Shehan into the top position on the results sheets. After crossing the line .038 seconds behind in second place, a post-race call by officials relegated the initial winner down to sixth, and Shehan to the top step of the podium. “It feels really good. Getting that first win is a big deal and gives you a lot of momentum throughout the rest of the season,” explained Shehan, “It has been something that we have been fighting for all season long. With the first win now out of the way, I am hungrier for more and can hopefully close the gap in the points championship.” With two races on the schedule for Sunday, Shehan couldn't let his first win excitement get the better of him. His had to be laser focused as tough competition fought in his rearview mirrors. Starting sixth, Shehan battled to a third-place result in race two on Sunday morning and then added a second-place finish in race three for a triple podium weekend. Standing on all three steps of the podium over the course of three races, the young Texan proved nothing could rattle him and that he is a force to be reckoned with as the series has two event weekends remaining to determine a champion. Motivated to a victory, two new partners joined Shehan on track this weekend via the Pathfinder Program. Members Michael and Stephanie Johnson and Marc and Kristen King were represented on each side of Shehan's car by their names and a Pathfinder logo as they helped fund him to victory at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Shehan added, “It was the first weekend for two of our new Pathfinders, and to represent them on the top step of the podium with a win, and three podium results in total in their first weekend is such an accomplishment. This weekend is proof that hard work both on and off the track does pay off!”
We review our latest high performance driving education (HPDE) event at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) in Millville, New Jersey. We had four drivers at the event from our team. Jennifer, Vicki, and Liam were in the HPDE 2 run group for this weekend and Bill was in the HPDE 3-4 group. We each learned quite a bit a this event and we are all better drivers after. On this episode’s Dominating with Dawson, Ben goes into the acronym OSB, which is sometimes used to describe someone in a learning environment where it stands for “Other Sports Beckon”. We all firmly believe that anyone can learn how to drive at a track or an autocross event. While there are differences in everyone at the rate that they learn, or their initial skill/experience level, literally everyone can get to a very proficient level if they take an approach of learning and are willing to put in the effort to improve. We then move into the area of how different teaching approaches are better able to match with different student personalities and how the needs of the student may change as their experience and skill level progresses. Best regards, Vicki, Jennifer, Alan, and Bill Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training Podcast and Garage Heroes In Training racing team drivers Highlights from this episode include: 1) Car reviews: Jennifer was in a 2019 ND.2 Mazda Miata with the stock OEM Continental tires and brakes. Liam was in his 2017 Toyota 86 TRD with Hankook RS4 tires and Raybestos ST-43 racing pads. Vicki was in her 1999 NB Miata with a Flyin’ Miata Turbo, Hankook RS4 tires and Raybestos ST-43 racing pads. Bill was in his 2004 BMW E46 M3 with yellow Pagid brake pads and Michelin Pilot SuperSport 4 tires. 2) Telemetry we used for this event: Apex Pro and Garmin Catalysts. 3) How we owe our friends Jeff and Jim from the Three Pedal Mafia for saving our weekend by letting us use their family’s RV. Let's just summarize by saying our prep for the vent did not go as planned. Situation normal. 4) Vicki’s prep to her turbo NB Miata did not go as planned before the event and at the event, but we did a few adjustments and all went well. It should be back up and running for our HPDE at Mid Ohio this coming weekend. Pro tip, do not try to adjust your harness while the car is running. 5) Vicki and Jennifer’s thoughts on being in HPDE 2 vs HPDE 1. It was Vicki’s second time in HPDE 2 and Jennifer and Liam's first time in HPDE 2. We also go into some of the differences in the HPDE’s between this event and some of the other organizations we have attended. 6) Let's talk about point by’s at every post stint debrief, lol. 7) Vicki’s impressions of driving the E46 M3 on track for the first time. 8) We go over our goals going into the event and how we did during the event and what we learned over this weekend. We also go into some of the challenges we each face as we progress and grow as drivers on the track. 9) Liam pops in for a quick summary towards the end with his thoughts on the weekend. He also had a great time at the event and finally had a chance to be on track with the Garmin Catalyst.

In this episode I have a really cool chat with Justin Edson who I have come to know as a fellow listener of some other podcasts that we share an interest in. It is Justin's attitude towards life and his extensive experience riding and wrenching on motorcycles that gave me the idea to have him on as a guest of the show. We talk a little bit about Jack Daley, a great friend and riding buddy of Justin's, who unfortunately passed away a couple months ago, and we discuss why Jack was such an important part of Justin's life. In honor of Jack, we share a toast to him, and we dedicate this episode to his memory and legacy. We also talk about the 46 different motorcycles that Justin has owned and wrenched on over the years, and how his mission to help make great running, reliable and inexpensive used motorcycles available to new and experienced riders led to the formation of Jedz Moto. We also get into the ways in which motorcycling can be very fulfilling to the human soul and the fact that there seems to be a spiritual side to this amazing sport and hobby that we share and love. We end off discussing some tips for new motorcycle riders and things they can do to be successful and fulfilled motorcyclists. In this episode listener Tony Terribilini and I discuss several different topics which are pretty much summarized by the links below. Scan the links and you'll get a good idea of what this episode is all about! In a nutshell, we talk about his experience with millennials, how motorcycle marketing to the millennial and following generations needs to change, where we see growth opportunities, and the importance of helping keep existing motorcyclists in the community by making sure they are enjoying and getting the most possible out of motorcycling.
