Zonda. Huayra. A succinct but epic bloodline for the next Pagani hypercar to follow. And there's much promise too, for the new Utopia: a twin-turbo, AMG-supplied V12 with 846bhp; a carbo-titanium monocoque; even the option of a manual gearbox. Only 99 will be built, each costing around £2.2m a pop. But is it a piece of automotive art, too delectable to be driven? In the latest and thoroughly overdue episode of The Carmudgeon Show, the boys spend an hour or so discussing their latest video projects: Jason's just released Icons episode about the G80 M3 (which necessitates revisiting the E30 M3 and E46 M3 and of course the W201 Mercedes 190E 2.3-16), and Derek's upcoming BTS with DTS episodes about the Lexus LFA and NA1 Honda NSX-R. They also discuss the recent rally they attended, which was not without drama (one car flew off a cliff) and their preferred type of driving and how certain cars are and aren't suited to that. On that topic, Jason and Derek compare notes about the first generation NSX; Jason isn't a huge fan, while Derek described the NSX-R as one of the best drives he's ever had. In fact, Jason took a cashier's check to buy a US-market NSX and came home empty handed because he wasn't enthusiastic enough about how it drove. The Carmudgeon Show is a comedic, information-filled conversation with Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott, two car enthusiasts who are curmudgeonly beyond their years. Proving you don't have to be old to be grumpy, they spend each episode talking about what's wrong with various parts of the automotive universe. Despite their best efforts to keep it negative, they usually wind up laughing, happy, and extolling their love for cars. Which just makes them angrier and more bitter.ISSIMI is an enthusiast-owned, full-service specialist offering sales, consignment, collection management, service, and consulting to discerning enthusiasts and collectors. It’s time we put you in charge of the subject matter — and we received hundreds of great questions. Many were remarkably intelligent, some were genuinely difficult to answer, and a few cracked us up. Either way, thanks to our awesome audience! This is the last episode for the first season of The Carmudgeon Show — and it’s the longest episode yet. Jason and Derek set their timer for 90 minutes and answered all of the audience questions they could — and only got halfway through their list. One question was perhaps the most difficult to ask: Derek asks Jason to admit a secret he’s been harboring: what happens after summer break? In this episode, Derek and Jason peer into the crystal ball to concoct the recipe for the perfect collectible car. What it comes down to is a number of factors; a checklist of characteristics. Did the car represent an end of an era? Or if it was replaced, was its replacement fundamentally different in a bad way? How many units were made — only two cars to ever hit the million-dollar price tag were produced in greater than 1000 units — the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing and the Ferrari F40. Don’t forget attrition: some cars were made in large numbers but typically destroyed by rust, abuse, neglect, or just use. Or lift-off oversteer.Cars that are aberrations in their product lines (like the original GTI or the Mercedes Black Series cars) tend to do well. We can’t, of course, forget intrinsic desirability, nostalgia, and cars that represent the ultimate expression of their era: 1959 Cadillac’s fins, Aston Lagonda’s wedge styling. Don’t underestimate the cyclical nature of fashion: at one time, the Lamborghini Countach was seen as the car you buy if you can’t afford a new Lambo.Four-door cars have historically underperformed, but the Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II shows a sea change. Perhaps that’s because, for the first time, many of the most desirable cars of the last 40 years were saloons: Lotus Carlton, BMW M5, etc. Provenance of the marque plays a role — but it’s not a guarantee (hello, Ferrari 308 GT4), but speed and experience almost always win. Speed alone isn’t enough, because as cars get faster and faster, the experience is what becomes dominant. The same go for looks: great looks are necessary for collectibility but certainly not sufficient. At the end of the day, Derek always counsels his clients to drive what makes them happy. Then, even if the car’s value doesn’t skyrocket, the ownership experience alone is enough to make it all worthwhile. What an out-of-character optimistic view from a true curmudgeon. We’ll make sure Derek is far less happy next week.=The Carmudgeon Show is a comedic, information-filled conversation with Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott, two car enthusiasts who are curmudgeonly beyond their years. Proving you don’t have to be old to be grumpy, they spend each episode talking about what’s wrong with various parts of the automotive universe. The Bugatti Veyron went into production 15 years ago, which means it’s now old enough to be considered a classic car in some places. Derek and Jason take a minute to discuss what was the fastest car in the world, the most expensive car in the world, and surely one of the most momentous automotive engineering projects in recent history. Fresh off the heels off of the first episode of ISSIMI’s new “Spotlight” show, where Jason features the Veyron Super Sport 300 — the last-ever Veyron coupe produced — the boys discuss the two different generations of Veyron (the first, 1001-hp car was available in coupe “EB 16.4” and convertible “Grand Sport” form — the second, 1200-hp Veyron was also available as a coupe (“Super Sport”) and convertible (“Grand Sport Vitesse.”)They reveal insider stories like the differences between Burmester and Puccini stereos in the cars, and what it’s like to drive vintage Bugattis (like Peter Mullin’s 1933 Type 51 that Jason drove on a Bugatti rally.) But really, this is just a discussion looking back at the Veyron’s incredible accomplishments.==The Carmudgeon Show is a comedic, information-filled conversation with Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott, two car enthusiasts who are curmudgeonly beyond their years. In this week's podcast we welcome in the new year with a shedload of cynicism. Lamborghini may have finally made the Huracan we actually want, McLaren may have a Senna fire problem, and Pagani may need to make a facelifted Huayra. We've also met the future of resto-modding classic American cars, and his 3D printer.
Gears and Beers: The Unashamedly Unprofessional Automotive Podcast
After a technical hitch with the upload, and better late than never, episode 41 is here! This week we discuss Pagani claiming they're ending Huayra production with the L'Ultimo. We then talk about official prificing for the Ford Ranger Ratpor being released for the Australian market, and we were a bit off with our guestimation of $85,000 the other week. This then births a conversation about other high-end utes, and a passionate debate about the new Mercedes X-Class.Then we talk about BMW Australia leaking the M2 Competition on their own website, which looks like it's going to be one hell of a car.... And we go back to arguing about utes again.Just before we kick into 'Motorcycle Minute'', Joseph gives Matt the budget for 'Finders Fee', and the budget this week is $50,000. This week on Motorcycle Minute, Joel discusses how the German government is funding BMW (and other companties)
We welcome Rob Dahm to the podcast from Monroe, Michigan. We talk about his Rx7s, his Diablo 6.0, and gather a little perspective from the creator side of the YouTube screen. We talk about Horatio Pagani and his Zonda and Huayra, the YouTube cocktail hour that both Robs attended in NYC, Robs Diablo mishaps, crowd funding to offset production expenses, Drive+, using dash cams and the internet to achieve social justice, if its better to build a car or buying a more expensive car, tipping while driving an exotic car, Spyker bankruptcy update, Adventure Drives, answering fan questions, all while Shivam munches on a handful of bon chon chicken. Try and keep up!
