Jason and Derek review their top 10 best (and worst) experiences behind the wheel in 2024. Everything from ulta-rare Porsches, to open-air Lamborghinis, manual-swapped Mercedes (and Ferraris), supercars, hypercars, rally icons, and more! === The Carmudgeon Show Sponsor, Vredestein Tires: https://www.vredestein.com/ Click here to join the Hagerty Driver's Club: https://bit.ly/Join-HDC-Cammisa-Rev === Christmas comes early for us this year (but not quite in time for this episode) in the form of 6 brand new sets of dutch rubber courtesy of our sponsor, Vredestein Tires! The Curmudgeon's then continue with a discussion about each Carmudgeon's Grandmother's vehicular preferences, which included the likes of the Ford Pinto, AMC Pacer, ‘87 Chevy Cavalier, Saturn SL1, ‘99 Nissan Sentra, Dodge Aries K-car, Dodge Duster 340, and Buick Wildcat. Then we briefly revel in some sweet, sweet vindication after Car and Driver named the Tesla Model 3 to their 10 Best list, but rejected the G20 BMW 3-Series (as it had the F30 before it) and specifically the G80 M3. The Cadillac CT4 and CT5 Blackwing both made this list, alongside a handful of perennial stalwarts like the Honda Civic, Honda Accord, and GR86/BRZ twins. Afterwards, we recount hanging with Jay Leno while filming 3 separate episodes of Jay Leno's Garage featuring Jason's Mk2 VW Scirocco 16V, E30 BMW 325i Touring, and E31 850 CSi. And finally, it's time to talk best drives of the year! The boys loved three Ferraris: the 296 GTB, 360 Challenge Stradale (manual-swapped), and F50. Plus one car from Enzo's nemesis: the Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster. Then, Jason and Derek include wwo Porsches: the 992.1-chassis 911 S/T and 964 Carrera RS 3.8. Both the Bugatti EB110 GT and Veyron made the list, as did another Piëch-era favorite: the VW XL1. Speaking of VWs, the 1964 Beetle and new ID.Buzz both made the cut as well. What would a Carmudgeon episode be without a smattering of Mercedes products? The W209 CLK63 Black Series (manual-converted), W201 190E 2.5-16, C126 560SEC, and a W124 300E with a Mosselman twin-turbo kit and Zender body! Two EVs even made the list: the incredible Lucid Air Sapphire and spunky Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. Plus some exquisite lightweights: the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint 1300, Lotus Exige V6 Cup, and Lancia Stratos. The worst drives of the year? That honor goes to the disappointing Pagani Zonda and 4-cylinder W206 Mercedes-AMG C63. We end wondering how to rack up miles behind the wheel of our favorite vintage cars safely. There has never been an open-top version of the Chiron, as there was with the Veyron. But we're not sad, because rather than merely cutting a hole in the roof to make one, Bugatti has instead given us this: the W16 Mistral. The jaw-dropping exterior is bespoke, just 99 will be made, and the price for admission is £5m. Production starts right about now, and every single one was sold out before it was revealed to the public back in 2022. It's also the last-ever road-going Bugatti to use a W16 engine, before we move on to the V16-powered Tourbillon. And in this case, the quad-turbo, 8.0-litre, W16 engine goes out on a high, in the same 1600hp guise as used in the record-breaking 304mph Chiron Super Sport 300+. Speaking of which… when the roofless Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse hit 254mph in 2013, it did it with a mere 1200hp. With over a decade of engineering advancements behind it, including an extra 400hp, how fast might the W16 Mistral go? To find out, Top Gear joined Bugatti at the Papenburg proving ground in Germany, and snuck in a little go of our own. Over to Deputy Editor Ollie Kew, who, in this episode of the Top Gear Magazine Podcast tells Jack Rix, Rowan Horncastle and Ollie Marriage what it's like to be on set of a new World Record attempt.

This is the Surprise Bugatti Episode, and it happened when Jason revealed that the Bugatti Chiron Replacement would have an electrified V-8 engine. What resulted is Derek Tam-Scott admitting he knows nothing about Bugatti's history, but reciting it like an encyclopedia anyway. Jason has some experience with vintage Bugattis and a lot of experience with the W-16-powered Veyron. And both of them agree: a V-8 isn't the correct engine for a Bugatti — even if it's a bespoke unit and not the VAG-group corporate 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8. However, they could be wrong: the Carmudgeons have both driven the Rimac Nevera, and it's absolutely spectacular. It could be that Mate Rimac and his team will make an incredible followup to the Chiron that's worthy of the Bugatti badge. === The Carmudgeon Show is part of the Hagerty Podcast Network. A inventer d'autres façons d'aborder notre quotidien ?

In the latest and thoroughly overdue episode of The Carmudgeon Show, the boys spend an hour or so discussing their latest video projects: Jason's just released Icons episode about the G80 M3 (which necessitates revisiting the E30 M3 and E46 M3 and of course the W201 Mercedes 190E 2.3-16), and Derek's upcoming BTS with DTS episodes about the Lexus LFA and NA1 Honda NSX-R. They also discuss the recent rally they attended, which was not without drama (one car flew off a cliff) and their preferred type of driving and how certain cars are and aren't suited to that. On that topic, Jason and Derek compare notes about the first generation NSX; Jason isn't a huge fan, while Derek described the NSX-R as one of the best drives he's ever had. In fact, Jason took a cashier's check to buy a US-market NSX and came home empty handed because he wasn't enthusiastic enough about how it drove. The Carmudgeon Show is a comedic, information-filled conversation with Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott, two car enthusiasts who are curmudgeonly beyond their years. Proving you don't have to be old to be grumpy, they spend each episode talking about what's wrong with various parts of the automotive universe. Despite their best efforts to keep it negative, they usually wind up laughing, happy, and extolling their love for cars. Which just makes them angrier and more bitter.ISSIMI is an enthusiast-owned, full-service specialist offering sales, consignment, collection management, service, and consulting to discerning enthusiasts and collectors. 9. W16: Bugatti Chiron (2016) Os doy tres datos para situarnos: 1.500 CV, 490 km/h, 2,4 millones de euros. Impresionante… ¿o no?

The Bugatti Veyron, and its predecessor the EB110, made waves in the car world. Not only was Bugatti back in business, but it was building cars that captured the spirit of the marque: luxurious and brutally fast cars. While the EB110 started Bugatti's return, the Veyron deserves much of the credit for reinserting the marque into our collective automotive consciousness. After rolling out of Bugatti's factory for a decade, the Veyron was replaced in 2016 with the Chiron, another wildly powerful luxe coupe that raised the bar yet again. Powered by a 16-cylinder engine equipped with four turbochargers, the Bugatti Chiron makes 1,500 hp. That's a 300 hp bump over the monster Veyron. Joining the incredible power is a high-tech suspension and a heap of luxury appointments. And while the standard Chiron might be nice enough for your average billionaire, for those looking for something extra, meet the Pur Sport. The Chiron Pur Sport turns a standard Chiron into a more track-friendly machine, with revised gearing, suspension, and styling. On this episode of Quick Spin, tag along with Mark Vaughn as he puts this $4 million machine through its paces. Vaughn walks you around the Chiron Pur Sport to explain its styling and features, and also takes you along for the ride while he does a live drive review. Between the drive review and the walk around, he talks extensively about the Bugatti with host Wesley Wren. Closing the show, the pair explain what makes the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport special.

It’s time we put you in charge of the subject matter — and we received hundreds of great questions. Many were remarkably intelligent, some were genuinely difficult to answer, and a few cracked us up. Either way, thanks to our awesome audience! This is the last episode for the first season of The Carmudgeon Show — and it’s the longest episode yet. Jason and Derek set their timer for 90 minutes and answered all of the audience questions they could — and only got halfway through their list. One question was perhaps the most difficult to ask: Derek asks Jason to admit a secret he’s been harboring: what happens after summer break? You’ll have to listen to find out.The Carmudgeon Show is a comedic, information-filled conversation with Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott, two car enthusiasts who are curmudgeonly beyond their years. In this episode, Derek and Jason peer into the crystal ball to concoct the recipe for the perfect collectible car. What it comes down to is a number of factors; a checklist of characteristics. Did the car represent an end of an era? Or if it was replaced, was its replacement fundamentally different in a bad way? How many units were made — only two cars to ever hit the million-dollar price tag were produced in greater than 1000 units — the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing and the Ferrari F40. Don’t forget attrition: some cars were made in large numbers but typically destroyed by rust, abuse, neglect, or just use. Or lift-off oversteer.Cars that are aberrations in their product lines (like the original GTI or the Mercedes Black Series cars) tend to do well. We can’t, of course, forget intrinsic desirability, nostalgia, and cars that represent the ultimate expression of their era: 1959 Cadillac’s fins, Aston Lagonda’s wedge styling. Don’t underestimate the cyclical nature of fashion: at one time, the Lamborghini Countach was seen as the car you buy if you can’t afford a new Lambo.Four-door cars have historically underperformed, but the Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II shows a sea change. Perhaps that’s because, for the first time, many of the most desirable cars of the last 40 years were saloons: Lotus Carlton, BMW M5, etc. Provenance of the marque plays a role — but it’s not a guarantee (hello, Ferrari 308 GT4), but speed and experience almost always win. Speed alone isn’t enough, because as cars get faster and faster, the experience is what becomes dominant. The same go for looks: great looks are necessary for collectibility but certainly not sufficient. At the end of the day, Derek always counsels his clients to drive what makes them happy. Then, even if the car’s value doesn’t skyrocket, the ownership experience alone is enough to make it all worthwhile. What an out-of-character optimistic view from a true curmudgeon. We’ll make sure Derek is far less happy next week.=The Carmudgeon Show is a comedic, information-filled conversation with Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott, two car enthusiasts who are curmudgeonly beyond their years. The Bugatti Veyron went into production 15 years ago, which means it’s now old enough to be considered a classic car in some places. Derek and Jason take a minute to discuss what was the fastest car in the world, the most expensive car in the world, and surely one of the most momentous automotive engineering projects in recent history. Fresh off the heels off of the first episode of ISSIMI’s new “Spotlight” show, where Jason features the Veyron Super Sport 300 — the last-ever Veyron coupe produced — the boys discuss the two different generations of Veyron (the first, 1001-hp car was available in coupe “EB 16.4” and convertible “Grand Sport” form — the second, 1200-hp Veyron was also available as a coupe (“Super Sport”) and convertible (“Grand Sport Vitesse.”)They reveal insider stories like the differences between Burmester and Puccini stereos in the cars, and what it’s like to drive vintage Bugattis (like Peter Mullin’s 1933 Type 51 that Jason drove on a Bugatti rally.) But really, this is just a discussion looking back at the Veyron’s incredible accomplishments.==The Carmudgeon Show is a comedic, information-filled conversation with Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott, two car enthusiasts who are curmudgeonly beyond their years. Proving you don’t have to be old to be grumpy, they spend each episode talking about what’s wrong with various parts of the automotive universe. Despite their best efforts to keep it negative, they usually wind up laughing, happy, and extolling their love for cars. Which just makes them angrier and more bitter.Jason Cammisa is an automotive journalist, social-media figure, and TV host with over 250 million views on YouTube alone. Jason’s deeply technical understanding, made possible by a lifelong obsession with cars, allows him to fully digest what’s going on within an automobile — and then put it into simple terms for others to understand. Also, a Master’s Degree in Law trained him to be impossible to argue with. Derek Tam-Scott still tries. He’s a young automotive expert with old-man taste in cars, and a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering — which means he knows how to be civil to Jason. Or at least he tries. With a decade and a half’s experience buying, selling, driving and brokering classic and exotic cars, he’s experienced the world’s most iconic cars. And hated most of them.

Gears and Beers: The Unashamedly Unprofessional Automotive Podcast
We're back for episode 115! This week we pretty much kick straight off into a bit of news! Mitch talks about the Lamborghini Sian, the most powerful road-going Lamborghini ever made... And, it's a V12 Hybrid (RIP Lambo). Joseph then tangents onto talking about a YouTube channel 'Harry's Garage'. Matt then quickly talks about a new game he's made up, and gives Joseph a few minutes to prepare while Mitch talks news. Mitch then talks about Nissan's new Patrol being leaked to the press, and it looks bloody awful; somehow it's worse than the current Y62, and then Mitch talks about Mclaren issuing a recall on the 2019 Senna, before ending the news on Bugatti hitting 490Kph (300mph) with a modified Chiron. We then argue about the Veyron and Chiron, and then talk about TJ Hunt Vs. Adam LZ. Mitch then goes off to find cars for his $10k theoretical garage, while Matt and Joseph talk about motorsport news with CAMS scrapping Formula 4, Joseph talks about a new motorsport F-5000, and Matt talks about aero changes to the Holden Commodore Supercars to make them more competitive with the Mustang, and a Queensland Excel Cup racedriver being picked up to race for Red Bull in TCR, Team Vernon leaves TCR because they're sick of their Alfa Romeo always breaking down, and Mclaren having a whinge at Renault over engine issues in Formula 1. We then play Matt's new game, and spoiler alert, Mitch fucks up massively. Today we’re exploring how concepts from the business field, frameworks, can be used to increase the speed of the solutions currently being applied to sustainability. Also, thanks to Zapsplat.com for the sound effect that we hope most listeners won’t realize is not the Veyron. And if you want to see something cute, google the sounds that cheetahs make.
On this episode of the Carbitrage podcast, we're back! Back to the 80s happened, MAP Proving grounds 1 happened and the super obtuse waffle house drive is also complete. Gears and Beers: The Unashamedly Unprofessional Automotive Podcast
We're back for episode 94! This week we're joined once again by Ben, and we've had a few bevs before recording this one, so we talk a bit of bollocks before breaking into the news. Joseph brings up a bit of news about our favourite Chinese auto maker, MG, with them expanding in the Australian market with opening up more dealerships and overall strong sales results. We then talk about Toyota Australia deliberately withholding the Mk5 Supra from being able to be pre-ordered in dealerships, and will only be available for purchase online. Then we talk about Jeep already selling out the first batch of the Gladiator, and we talk about the Gladiator in general. Ben then talks about Labor wanting to inject $1 Billion into the D.O.A. car industry in Australia, and then we once again talk about Holden. We then talk about the cars from the Gosford Classic Car Museum being auctioned off in the wake of GCCM being closed down. We then talk about the cars we've been fawning over, and this week Matt talks about E39 and E34 M5's. We then change things up a bit. We were approached by Ryan and Barry of 'Knackers In The Breeze' podcast - A UK Comedy Podcast - to exchange random questions. Their question for us was about a Veyron, our questions for them are bloody weird, to say the least - Well, one of them is. Knackers In The Breeze is a great new podcast, give them a listen! The Bugatti Veyron is one of the fastest (and most expensive) cars on the planet. From early on, my kids have always seen this as the penultimate vehicle. The only problem? They're SUPER rare (and expensive). But when my kids say they want to buy one, I totally think they can... It's a subtle shift in your mindset that goes from "I could NEVER afford that" to "HOW could I afford that"? That creates a series of dominos that knock down the ULTIMATE domino at the end - the Veyron... Then, all you have to do is be cool with the dominos along the way to help you achieve your goal... From mikedillard.com: I’ve always believed that the greatest achievement each of us can strive for in life is to have the ability to create the world around you, so that it matches the dreams in your mind. This is how the most advanced city in the world sprung from the desert sands of Dubai in less than 10 years. How Bugatti built the 253 mph Veyron. How Steve Jobs created the IPhone. And how Paul Allen And Burt Rutan built Spaceship 1. Whatever that dream may be in your mind… Whether it’s unlimited time with your family, a new dress, the chance to work full-time for your favorite charity, to design your dream home, or change the future of mankind through your leadership… Having the financial means and the courage to say, “yes, I can make this real if I want”, is the ultimate expression of freedom that each of us can experience. I approach life with a core belief that anyone can accomplish anything. That not only can one man or woman make a difference, but that it’s one man or woman who always makes the difference. Hi, my name is Mike Dillard and I’m grateful that that our paths have crossed. My mission, and my purpose is to empower those who want to change their life, and change the world for the better, with the knowledge and skills they need to do so. If you’re an entrepreneur, or want to become one, I believe I have some insights and experiences that can help you make an incredible impact in the lives of others. When I’m not working, I do my best to experience as much as I possibly can during the short window of time we all have here… In 2008 I received my first taste of motorsports during an off road excursion trip driving through the magical place that is Baja Mexico. I was hooked. Six months later I found myself on the starting line of the longest, and most dangerous race in the world… The Baja 1000. If you’re one of the few people on the planet who’s ever had the privilege of a steak dinner and a cold beer at Mike’s Sky Ranch, we’re clearly kindred spirits… Today I spend my free time racing in the SCORE and HDRA off-road series, and with the construction of the new Circuit of The Americas racing facility here in Austin, I’ve started to transition my focus to road racing in an effort to follow in the footsteps of my friend Patrick Dempsey. When I’m not flying down a track at 160 MPH, you’ll find me at my ranch in the Texas hill country chasing chickens, feeding goats, tending to the organic greenhouse, or pinging steel with some 7.62. And when I’m not in Texas, you’ll find me waving a stick at some trout in the mountains of Colorado, or traveling the world in search of the best food and fun that it has to offer. Thank you for taking the time connect, and the best way to stay in touch is to subscribe to my email newsletter list. – Mike Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
