*This episode mentions suicide and depression and may not be suitable for all listeners.* Our first guest is Sabrina Greenlee—the mother of NFL star DeAndre Hopkins, a grandmother, and a survivor—whose faith was the lifeline that broke the cycle of violence that followed her throughout her life. Later in the episode, we'll hear from professional IndyCar driver Sting Ray Robb, who shares how his childhood passion evolved into a lifelong career, and how his faith has guided him through life's most uncertain times, both on and off the track. What that looked like, I had no idea. I just knew that I couldn't allow my children to be captivated by the streets or people. I made up my mind that what happened to me, I didn't want them to use as an excuse for them not succeeding in life.” - Sabrina Greenlee “There were so many different things that happened to me, and each time I got up. No matter what happened, I stood for myself. I stood in my truth.” - Sabrina Greenlee “Once I found the presence of God and He met me where I was, everything turned around. But you first have to surrender and give God your life. In the end, He'll give you the glory for your story.” - Sabrina Greenlee “It kind of seems that how I was challenged in the racing world, I was also challenged in my faith. I said a long time ago that I would not be a racer if it wasn't for my faith. It's my foundation that I lean on, and it's the thing that I call to and find purpose in.” - Sting Ray Robb “I had the realization and clarity and peace that came from knowing that [the race] wasn't in my control. I could trust God's sovereignty.” - Sting Ray Robb “I'm doing my best with racing to glorify Him and use this as a platform to reach others and provide some form of excellence that people can see a reflection of God through.” - Sting Ray Robb “God has called us in a direction, and it's our job to hitch ourselves to that direction and go with what He's telling us to do.” - Sting Ray Robb ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel! Alex welcomes back George Levy, president of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, this time with Class of 2025 inductee (and all-around class act) Skip Barber in tow. Mr. Barber's upcoming induction into the Hall of Fame next March will include a private VIP meet-and-greet as well as other priceless experiences for the lucky winner of our current charity auction to benefit the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Skip talks about a modern electric car attempting to break track records around the world; cutting his teeth driving backward as much as forward; his early years of racing a dilapidated Bugeye on less than a shoestring budget before moving on to a string of "someone else's" British cars; being the fastest guy who never "made it"; the beauty of the Formula Ford; and March-ing forward from the unexpected end of his motor racing career to become a storied and successful coach for future greats of the sport. Alex and George then talk about the beginnings of the Hall of Fame, the voting process for new inductees, their museum at Daytona International Speedway, and the power of the can't-buy experiences that only the Hall of Fame can put together. He's been able to do it via scholarships the entire time. Adam is the co-founder of the GRIDLIFE event series and the series is designed to be the track events that the GRIDLIFE team would want to attend. We had a series on last year that covered several of the wheel to wheel GLTC (Grid Life Touring Cup) series. During this episode, we go over the 2022 series and several of the other events in the series including their time attack (fast lap counts) racing series and the GRIDLIFE HPDE program. We have a plan to attend our first GRIDLIFE event this year and will be participating in the event at Lime Rock. If you haven't heard of GRIDLIFE, it is definitely not a typical track event and in many ways, the track events are only the beginning of the festivities. Adam does a great review if you are not already familiar. 6) We had a chance to talk with ADAM about the history that led to the creation of GRIDLIFE and has allowed them to become a very popular sprint racing series that has live streaming viewer numbers that would make many professional series jealous. 7) Adam goes into the recent changes to the GLTS series to a 200 treadwear tire series including the thought process that led to the change. 8) What did Skip Barber think of GRIDLIFE and what will be going on at the Lime Rock event. 9) How GRIDLIFE has grown and how you can participate in the event. 10) How GRIDLIFE organizes their HPDE groups, events, and instructors. 11) Bill cannot wait anymore and we get into the GRIDLIFE Sundae Cup series. Our car is being prepped for the Lime Rock event and several HPDE's this year. 12) What is coming for GRIDLIFE and how the east and west coast can expect to see events in the 2022 and more in 2023. 13) Bill launches his appeal for a wheel to wheel Sundae Cup race. "I've driven races where my power steering has gone out and the diver cooling system went out and it's 130 degrees, and if you did that for about five minutes, you'd say I gotta quit. But I had to do it for an hour. And the only way to get through it is just keep taking breaths and focusing on, 'What's the next step? What's the next step? What's the next step?'"Today's guest is Matt Plumb, a professional race car driver. If I asked you about car racing, you'd probably mention your favorite scene from Ford versus Ferrari with Matt Damon and Christian Bale or Days of Thunder Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Other than what we see in movies, most people don't know a whole lot about the sport of car racing and what it takes to be a successful professional driver. As sports nerds, Bryan and I were treated to an inside look, not only into the sport of car racing, but more importantly, the mind of a professional race car driver. Car racing is about so much more than driving fast and trying not to crash. In fact, everything we talked during our conversation with Matt felt completely relatable, even though our background is in a completely different sport. We discovered so many parallels between race car drivers and runners that at times, it felt like we were talking about the same sport. Matt highlights his story with insight into what makes up his winning mindset, including why not quitting is quite possibly the biggest motivator that got him through his toughest moments. There's no mistaking how relevant the lessons Matt has learned from twenty years of racing are to all of us. We really believe this conversation will inspire you to be ‘all in' when it comes to going after what you want in life.Show Notes(4:11) Where is he and what his season looks like…(5:18) Simple questions from a novice and racing basics explained…(9:27) It's a brother thing. The team sits down with Alex McKellar, the man behind Sunday Night Lights, the Strength of field race for Formula Skip Braber in iRacing, and Top Split TV. We have a chat about the story that got Alex to the point he currently finds himself in his life, including video games, sports, and mixed martial arts. There are many stories here about some of the best drivers in the world coming through the series and how the best Skip Barber drivers have found themselves battling it out week after week in the strength of the field, which is now bordering on 5000 each week. We then get to hear the story behind Top Split TV and the friendship formed between themselves and Team Milo to create a wall of green at the front of the Ozicar Formula series every week. On this week’s episode of Speed Secrets Podcast, I talk with my good friend Tom Roberts about flow, or getting “in the zone.” Tom recently wrote a 4-part article in Speed Secrets Weekly about his research and experience with the state of flow from a neuroscience and more spiritual perspective – and how fear impacts it. It’s all about how to perform at your best when on the track (or off). We talk mindfulness, mindset, awareness, fear, ego, and how these help you become a better driver. Tom’s Speed Secret: Be willing to get to know yourself. Tom got into track driving many years ago, and raced in the Skip Barber series. He then began making annual pilgrimages to the Nürburgring – something that he and I do together now, taking small groups of drivers with us. In 2019, Tom made his racing debut at the Ring, a long-time goal of his. In addition to his European motorsport adventures, Tom races in various endurance series in the U.S., and continues to track whatever his current Porsche is. When he’s not flying around a race track, Tom can also be found flying the skies in an RV4 aerobatics plane, doing loops, rolls, and simulated dog fights. He loves the experience of flow!
It's the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, and we've got two of the best to break it down, among other things: But mixed in with it all is F4 Championship hot-shoe Hunter Yeany. Then our IndyCar Insider Nick Yeoman is joined by the Voice of the 500 and Pennzoil INDYCAR Radio Network anchor Mark Jaynes, as the three of us talk about the week of practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, qualifying, and if Marco Andretti can kick the Andretti Curse to the curb. Rob Wilson joins us on this week’s episode to share stories about coaching F1 drivers, the importance of weight transfer, why confidence matters, and the perfect technique to turning a steering wheel. He also shares his aha! moment as a driver and a coach. Rob’s speed secret: Always tell the car what’s coming next. Rob Wilson is well-known as a driver coach to many current and past Formula One drivers (Kimi Raikkonen, Nico Rosberg, Valtteri Bottas), as well as working as an instructor with the Skip Barber school years ago. He’s won the British Formula Ford Championship, raced in Indy Lights, IMSA prototype and GT cars, Formula 3, and even NASCAR.
Christina Lam is a racing driver for several series, is an instructor for Skip Barber and NASA, as well as a frequent contributor to Grass Roots Motorsports magazine. We first started following her as her “After A Crash” 9-part series started a few months back and became instant fans of her approach and her dedication to racing, education, and giving back to the racing community. On this episode, we go over how she started to be involved from a point of little knowledge and car/racing influences to where she is not only competing at national events, podiuming many times, and instructing others to improve their skills. It is a fantastic and quite rapid journey from newbie to racing veteran and her latest challenge last season will inspire you and hopefully get you to reach further towards ever higher goals. On our Dominating with Dawson, Ben goes over the difference in driving approaches for endurance racing, autocross, as well as various types of sprint racing. We hope you enjoy the episode! Best regards, Bill, Vicki, Jennifer, and Alan Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training podcast and team members in the GHiT Immature Endurance Racing Team Highlights from the episode include: 1) We have had a long, long work week in the garage, so long that Vicki blanked on her name for a moment and Bill can’t spell SCCA, lol. 2) How she started off racing in Autocross one weekend and then had the opportunity of a lifetime drop in her lap a short time later (driving on a little place known as The ’Ring). 3) Christina’s first time on track was her first time driving a stick. This may be a good rival for what we ended up doing to Jennifer at her first race at Thompson Speedway. Not our best plan, but we did learn from it. 4) We share post-race hangover stories and several great ideas for further race cross training. Rally, V8 supercars, Ice racing, so much fun to be had, so little time. 5) What is involved with being a one-person team and how she accomplishes all that is required for a race weekend. The big key is prep. Second rule, prep. If you need a third rule, be prepped early. 6) We go into her accident last year and how she recovered, both physically and mentally, as well as her new race car. 7) What is involved with an SCCA protest 8) How Christina found her #46 M3 shell to start her new build 9) How much sleep she lost while working to prep for new car the upcoming 2019 national SCCA Runoffs in 60 days. 10) Christina goes into the plusses and minuses of an E46 M3 vs E46 330’s etc 11) Christina shares some of her nerves and almost PTSD after the wreck, what she had to work through and getting back into the car on track at VIR 12) What it is like being a female in a predominantly male sport at the track. 13) How Christina’s first car quickly turned into a second car. Honorable mentions and sponsors that have helped Christina along the way: Drive Gear Racing: for arrive and drive ice racing. Seems like a terribly great idea. Our guest is former championship driver, successful track owner, and philanthropist, Skip Barber— a well-known personality in the sports car world. For this edition of “Sidedrafts”, host Larry Webster traveled to Lime Rock Park, the challenging track in Northwest Connecticut that Skip has owned for 35 years. “Every time I come here, I’m blown away by how beautiful it is,” says Larry. In this episode, Skip talks about his passionate interest in racing and sports cars, his time behind the wheel as a driver, and what makes Lime Rock special for drivers. In the mid-1960s, Skip won three Sports Car Club of America national championships in a row. In 1969 and 1970, he won two Formula Ford National Championships. Later, he took part in the United States, Monaco and Dutch Grand Prix races. Skip also talks about starting his well-known racing school in the early 70’s. “I discovered two things,” he says. “I really liked the process of being in business and more importantly, that you could really teach people how to drive a race car.”

This episode of The Top Split sees me take a look at the world of online streaming with Matt Malone, who is one of, if not the top iRacing streamer on Twitch along with his team at Grip TV. It was a fascinating insight into some of the concepts involved and it was great to have Matt on the show. He also took a spin around Okayama to take on The Top Split Leader board challenge and set the time to beat for all my future guests. If you'd like to find out more about Matt and the Grip TV team, I thoroughly recommend heading on over to his Twitch channel and that of Grip TV itself using the links below. There's also a great bunch of content over on Matt's YouTube channel that you can also see in the links. So head on over and find out what all the fuss is about! I've also put a link below to the short documentary we spoke about during our chat called 'The World's Fastest Alien'. If you want to see how the famed Greger Huttu went on his visit to Road Atlanta to drive both the Skip Barber and Star Mazda cars in real life, make sure you check that out as well. It was a really interesting little insight. Thanks for tuning in to the show. I'll see you for more iRacing action soon!
