On today's program, Christian curriculum publisher Orange has released investigation findings after its founder was accused of sexual misconduct—and it's highlighting key lessons other ministries can learn. We'll take a look. Plus, the 2026 annual meeting for the Southern Baptist Convention was this week, putting some core tensions on display. From sexual abuse reforms to immigration and women preachers, Southern Baptists faced defining votes. We'll have details. And, two big ministry acquisitions to announce—Salem Media Group and Phoenix Seminary. But first, Bethel Church in Redding, California, is cutting ties with four big-name ministry leaders. Bethel says it will no longer platform Todd Bentley, Mike Bickle, Shawn Bolz, or Bob Hartley. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. We get database and other technical support from Stephen DuBarry, Rod Pitzer, and Casey Sudduth. Writers who contributed to today's program include Kim Roberts, Bob Smietana, Kathryn Post, Tony Mator, Makella Knowles, and Jessica Etturalde. Until next time, may God bless you.

Today we celebrate a century of God's faithfulness at Bethel Church. From a handful of families gathering to pray in 1926 to the vibrant church family we are today, this milestone isn't a finish lineit's a reminder that the mission continues. As we reflect on God's faithfulness over the past 100 years, we're reminded that our lives are not measured merely by time, but by moments of faith, obedience, sacrifice, and surrender. The baton is now in our hands. The mission isn't finished. The future is calling. Let's keep running.
Bethel Church released a NEW statement via email addressing the controversies and scandals involving their organization and the people they've endorsed and promoted. We've been consistent on this: the charismatic movement needs internal voices willing to evaluate its most influential organizations with theological honesty. Tribal loyalty doesn't serve the people who've been hurt. And reflexive dismissal doesn't serve the people who are genuinely trying to find their way forward. Both are too easy.So we're reading the statement. We're weighing what's there. We'll do our best to call balls and strikes, and give you a framework for evaluating it yourself. Our hope is that this conversation helps you think through what genuine accountability and repentance look like in a public Christian context and what we should actually expect from leaders and organizations when things have gone wrong.0:00 – Introduction0:35 – Shawn Bolz Allegations Overview6:14 – Kris Vallotton's Response8:05 – Bethel's Statement 14:15 – Governance & Leadership Review25:39 – Accountability & Safety Update33:26 – Wider Culture Ministry Review42:49 – Platforming & Reinstatement Policy52:05 – California Privacy Law ConcernsPOLICING THE CHARISMATIC MOVEMENT: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMsjeViSScFHSZqA1Q85VKxRrkvEYXBecABOUT THE REMNANT RADIO:The Remnant Radio exists to equip believers who are hungry for the radical middle of both Word and Spirit. In The Way of the Ox, Dr. David Stine lays the groundwork for a transformative spiritual journey that calls readers to forego the fast-paced, hustle-driven mindset of modern culture in favor of a quieter, more powerful and purposeful strength: the way of the ox.The amazing musk ox embraces a life of hardship. In the Arctic Circle where they live in the wild, they choose to go into the blizzard instead of running for cover.Stine challenges the belief that an easy life is a fruitful one. Instead, he invites readers to embrace the steady and sometimes gritty path of obedience, endurance, and unwavering purpose. With pastoral insight and cultural clarity, Stine positions the musk ox as a symbol of divine resilience. He suggests five sacred keys to a bold redefinition of what it means to live a life of deep spiritual impact:Advancing in hopeAdvancing in faithAdvancing in relationshipsAdvancing in prayerAdvancing in passionLike the musk ox, Stine suggests, “we have been wired to overcome obstacles no matter how challenging they may seem. Since we are in Him and He is in us, we are overcomers.” The Way of the Ox Bruce T Davis David Stine Dr. David Stine is a visionary leader, strategist, and consultant dedicated to helping nonprofit organizations maximize their donor development programs and leadership potential. Jason Vallotton is a pastor on staff at Bethel Church in Redding, California as well as a founder of BraveCo, a ministry dedicated to the healing and development of men as a means to healing and developing the world. Jason joins Ned Schaut for a deeply honest conversation about masculinity, healing, discipleship, and the kind of fatherhood that changes generations. This episode goes far beyond surface-level parenting advice. Jason shares openly about growing up with a father who created a home where confession was safe, truth mattered, and failure did not equal rejection. He talks candidly about struggling with pornography as a teenager, walking through divorce and betrayal, seasons of depression, and learning how to process pain instead of avoiding it. At the center of the conversation is one powerful idea: Most men are failing at the things they care about most because nobody showed them how to become men. Jason and Ned unpack why men often pour themselves into work, business, hobbies, or achievement while quietly feeling lost in marriage and family life. Business has clear targets. Family often doesn't. Most men were never discipled into emotional health, intentional fatherhood, or biblical masculinity. The conversation explores: why men need mentors and spiritual fathers, * how unresolved pain becomes bondage, why vulnerability and strength are not opposites, how fathers shape a child's understanding of God, and why no young man should have to stumble blindly into manhood. One of the standout moments comes when Jason describes his father in a way that we all strive to have our kids say about us: “My dad's not perfect. He's just the best man that I know.” This episode is for fathers, husbands, leaders and men who are tired of isolation, tired of pretending, and ready to intentionally become the kind of man their family can depend on.Mentioned in this episode:Rise Up Kings Genesis

This week on the BraveCo Podcast, I sat down with one of my closest friends, Richard Gordon, for a conversation I've been wanting to have for a long time. Richard is on our executive team at Bethel Church, and over the years I've had the privilege of watching him grow from a son in our house into one of the strongest fathers I know. We dug into the journey of moving from "what can I get?" to "what can I give?" — that quiet, often invisible shift that turns boys into men and sons into fathers. We got real about marriage, parenting, and the things nobody warns you about — bedtime battles, sensory struggles with our kids, co-sleeping, and the seasons where you feel like you're failing even when you're showing up. I shared what it was like walking my daughter Edy through years of dysregulation after my mother-in-law passed, and Richard opened up about how God keeps inviting him deeper into leadership through his family first. We also talked about what I call "the noble drug" — the way work and ministry can quietly become an escape, even when it looks valiant from the outside. If you're a husband, a dad, or a leader feeling pulled in a thousand directions, this conversation is for you. My prayer is that it gives you permission to make your family your number one team, to be led by vision instead of need, and to remember that the seasons that feel the hardest are often the ones you'll look back on as the most sacred. This video discusses a scandal connected to Bethel Church involving a so-called prophet who was secretly gathering information about people online and presenting it as divine revelation. One woman later shared how his words convinced her she was meant to be with a man the church encouraged her to marry. The relationship became abusive and nearly cost her life. In this video, I share clips of her story and talk about the deeper issue of power, manipulation, and why institutions sometimes choose to protect their reputation instead of being honest with their communities. My Work:
Gary Dorrien is the Niebuhr Chair at Union, and nobody alive can walk you through the whole arc of Reinhold Niebuhr with his range — from the German-American pastor's kid at Elmhurst and Eden, to the Yale divinity student who felt like a country boy among thoroughbreds, to the Detroit preacher at Bethel Church writing articles in 1916 begging German Americans to prove their Americanism months before Wilson took the country into war, to the young professor at Union who felt like an imposter for a decade and overcompensated by ridiculing everyone in sight, to the author of Moral Man and Immoral Society (1932), the bomb that ended the social gospel's fifty-year run and rerouted the entire field of American social ethics overnight. This is the second live Q&A for the Theology for Troublemakers class, and Gary, Aaron Stauffer, and I work through student questions covering the whole trajectory: why Niebuhr still towers over the field; what H. Richard's devastating private letter did to his brother's theology; how he metabolized Augustine into Christian realism in the Gifford Lectures that became Nature and Destiny; why Children of Light and Children of Darkness (1944) is the road not taken; and how Niebuhr drifted into establishment Democratic Party machinery with no emotional drama at all — the one transition he made smoothly, and arguably the one that cost the most. Plus the neocons who stole him, William Cavanaugh calling Gary a heretic at AAR in Montreal, Ron Stone tearing up when he says "saint," and the legendary Claremont nickname Five-Beer Barthian. Gary and Aaron are both coming to Theology Beer Camp in Kansas City in October. The class lives at homebrewedclasses.com. JOIN THE CLASS - Theology for Troublemakers: Christian Social Ethics from the Margins This 6-week online course, led by Dr. Gary Dorrien and Dr. Aaron Stauffer, recovers the radical tradition of Christian social ethics — from Reverdy Ransom and Reinhold Niebuhr to James Cone and the Welfare Rights Movement — and asks what faithfulness demands of us right now. Weekly lectures, live Q&A conversations, guest lecturers, and an online community included.
On today's program, Bethel Church commissions a third-party investigation into clergy sexual abuse allegations against the church's Prophetic Ministry Director Ben Armstrong. We'll have details. Plus, charities were left with major donation losses when the fundraising platform Flipcase declared bankruptcy—while owing charity groups over $29 million. We'll take a look. And, a new report shows that evangelical giving has leveled out after a steep decline…the report also tracked online giving and spiritual engagement. But first, recent events at Baylor University have sparked concern from Texas Baptists. Baptists with the Baptist General Convention of Texas are going to take a hard look at their relationship with Baylor at this year's meeting. Concerns relate to two recent events approved by Baylor and hosted by student groups. The first is the student-led Turning Point USA event. And the other alternative event is the LGBTQ-affirming “All Are Neighbors” event. Both events were scheduled to take place on Wednesday this week in separate locations on campus. Pastor Jeremy Gonzalez from Bethel Church in Redding joins us and talks to us about how we have to be careful of the stories we tell ourselves! We are overcomers and conquerors, but we have to be careful of what we are telling ourselves we are in our identities. We cannot live in our past and continue to be stuck in our own fear! We can't continue to tell our story about identifying ourselves by our past traumas, failures and excuses. God wants us to live in the present and follow Him! We have to identify ourselves how He sees us, as His sons and daughters. We can't see ourselves as victims in hiding. We have to die to ourselves so we can live for the first time in our true identity in Christ!
On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (03/17/26), Hank shares his thoughts on St. Patrick's Day. Saint Patrick was born a Brit in the fifth century, but when he was 16, he was captured by Irish pirates and taken to Ireland as a slave. After escaping, he later returned as a missionary. Although all analogies for the Trinity ultimately break down, Saint Patrick supposedly explained this doctrine by using a shamrock. Tradition credits him as the founder of Christianity in Ireland and its first bishop. Certainly, many came to faith in Christ through his ministry.Hank also answers the following questions:Have you heard of the New Apostolic Reformation? Are IHOP and Bethel Church in Redding associated with it? Ryan - Medicine Hat, AB (3:09)Can you explain the doctrine of predestination? Send us Fan MailIn this episode of The Faith of the Fathers, Karl Gessler discusses church leadership, church scandal, and the growing “exposure culture” within modern Christianity. Drawing from recent controversies surrounding ministries like Bethel Church and leaders such as Bill Johnson, Karl examines the increasing tendency of believers to tear down entire ministries and permanently disqualify pastors when failures or controversies arise. While accountability and truth matter deeply in the church, a culture of constant exposure and condemnation can become destructive. Many Christians are quick to attack leaders, ministries, and movements without realizing they may be cutting off the very branch they are sitting on.Karl explores the dangers of modern exposure culture, the rise of deconstruction among Millennials, and the spiritual damage that occurs when criticism replaces humility, mercy, and restoration. The power of the Gospel is grace, not exposure. Exposure may stop the immediate evil of a perpetrator, but grace is what brings true healing and restoration. The Gospel does more than expose sin — it restores the broken, heals the wounded, and calls sinners to repentance. If the church is going to experience true revival, it must learn to hold leaders accountable without abandoning mercy and grace.Support the show❤️ SHOW YOUR SUPPORT - LINKS BELOW...➡️ Email me: https://www.karlgessler.com/deliverance➡️ DONATE ➡️ Join our team!https://www.givesendgo.com/karlgessle... / karlgessler ...

Holly Pivec and Doug Geivett on Two Decades of Tracking the NAR's Apostles and Prophets You walk into a church on Sunday morning. The worship band plays songs you've heard on Christian radio for years. The lyrics feel familiar, uplifting. What you don't realize is that the words you're singing were written to export a specific theology from a single church in Redding, California, one whose leadership claims direct prophetic authority from God. The church is Bethel. The movement behind it is the New Apostolic Reformation. And according to researchers Holly Pivec and Doug Geivett, who have spent over two decades studying this movement from inside Christian scholarship, it represents a radical departure from historic Christianity that is reshaping churches, politics, and millions of lives worldwide. I sat down with Holly and Doug on a recent episode of Cults, Culture & Coercion to discuss their latest book, Reckless Christianity: The Destructive New Teachings and Practices of Bill Johnson, Bethel Church, and the Global Movement of Apostles and Prophets. I've written about the New Apostolic Reformation in The Cult of Trump and interviewed researchers like André Gagné and Frederick Clarkson on these topics. Holly and Doug bring an essential angle: they are committed Christians sounding the alarm from within the faith, grounded in biblical scholarship and philosophy. Learn more about your ad choices. Over the last few years, Hillsong, IHOP, Gateway Church, and now Bethel have had significant leadership failures. Guest Bios Show Transcript Sixteen years ago, Bethel Church pastor Ben Armstrong allegedly forced a young intern into bed—twice. Instead of firing Armstrong for adult clergy sexual abuse, church leaders labeled the misconduct an “affair.” After a period of “restoration,” he was reinstated and eventually promoted. When the former intern, Sarah, recently went public with her story of abuse, it sparked strong backlash.
Bethel Church has shut down the BSSM Alumni Facebook Group — a 5,000+ member community where former students had been raising concerns, sharing experiences, and asking for accountability. Now Bethel has issued a public statement. We read it. We talked about it. And we're not going to pretend it doesn't raise serious questions. To be clear, we're continuationists. We believe in the ongoing work of the Spirit. We want Spirit-filled churches to thrive, which is exactly why we care when transparency breaks down, when safe church processes get sidestepped, and when "move this to proper channels" starts to sound more like damage control than genuine pastoral care. What does real accountability look like when leadership is under scrutiny? Does centralizing these conversations protect the vulnerable or does it protect the institution? What does real repentance and meaningful accountability look like when leadership is under scrutiny? If you love the gifts of the Spirit and you love the Word, you already know these two things aren't in tension: a church can be Spirit-filled and biblically accountable. For many believers, recent conversations around church leadership, prophetic ministry, and spiritual authority haven't just felt theological — they've felt deeply personal. In this episode, Spencer Robbins and Josh Straub sit down to talk honestly about what surfaces when trust is broken, leaders fall, and faith feels shaken — especially in light of the growing discussion around Shawn Bolz and Bethel Church. This isn't a reaction episode or an online takedown. It's a grounded, compassionate conversation about how to walk through church hurt, leadership disappointment, and spiritual grief without partnering with cynicism, accusation, or walking away from God altogether. Together, they explore why we place leaders on pedestals, how wounds quietly shape our view of God, and what it looks like to hold justice and compassion at the same time. They also share practical ways to grieve well, rebuild trust, and process pain honestly instead of spiritually bypassing it. This episode is for anyone who: Feels unsettled or faith-shaken by recent events Has experienced church hurt or leadership betrayal Wants healthy discernment without becoming cynical Is carrying anger, confusion, or grief beneath the surface Desires to reconnect with God after disappointment At its heart, this conversation invites you to bring your pain into the light, remove people from pedestals, and rediscover a faith rooted in relationship — not performance or platforms. This episode is a live recording of Jason Vallotton's message at Bethel Church on November 30, 2025—a raw, clarifying teaching on God's Plan for Forming Men, shared in the context of the upcoming BraveCo Rite of Passage Event in Jacksonville February 28, 2026.God has a blueprint for forming men who carry strength, humility, and responsibility into their homes, marriages, and work. That blueprint is both simple and demanding—formed, filled, and finished—and it unfolds through the stages of calling, testing, equipping, and commissioning. In this message, Jason unpacks why being made from dust matters, why being filled with the Spirit is non-negotiable, and why testing isn't punishment but refinement. Marriage becomes a mirror. Work becomes a training ground. Feedback becomes the tool that confronts ego head-on. Equipping looks like delayed gratification—showing up when you don't feel like it, choosing peace over pride, and learning to carry responsibility without collapsing under it. Commissioning comes when failure is no longer hidden, but redeemed into testimony that helps other men walk free. The turning point is mentorship. Jesus didn't say, “Follow me and figure it out.” He said, “Follow me, and I will make you.” Jason brings this home through the powerful rite-of-passage story of Caleb, a young man born with club feet who completed a brutal course because a tribe refused to let him walk alone. This is the heart behind BraveCo: men formed in community, forged through challenge, and released with clarity and purpose. This episode is a call to movement—not theory. You'll hear a practical vision for how men can get connected, equipped, challenged, and sent, and why identity is forged best in brotherhood. Great men aren't born. They're built—together.Next StepsSubscribe so you don't miss future conversationsShare this episode with a man who needs brotherhoodLeave a review to help others find the podcastAnd we'd love to hear from you: Where are you in the journey—calling, testing, equipping, or commissioning?PatreonIf you've enjoyed this podcast, would you consider financially supporting the show? Guest Bios Show Transcript The charismatic Christian world has been rocked by revelations that alleged prophet Shawn Bolz faked prophecies and sexually harassed staff—while leaders at Bethel Church knew for years and failed to warn the public. The public reckoning began with Bible teacher Mike Winger's bombshell exposé with overwhelming evidence that Bethel leaders continued to promote Bolz, despite documented misconduct. For at least six years, pastors like Bill Johnson and Kris Vallotton rebuked Bolz privately, while publicly saying he was a godly and powerful minister.

Did Bethel Church actually repent over the Shawn Bolz scandal? In this episode of The Remnant Radio, we carefully examine the public statements and actions of Bethel Church leadership—including Bill Johnson, Kris Vallotton, and Danny Silk—to determine whether their response represents genuine biblical repentance or merely institutional damage control. From questions of prophetic accountability and false prophecy to the broader credibility of charismatic theology, this conversation aims to help believers think clearly, biblically, and sober-mindedly about what true repentance looks like in church leadership. We walk step-by-step through what Bethel leaders said, what they admitted, what they failed to address, and how their response compares to the biblical standard for repentance, confession, and restoration. We also interact with the wider conversation sparked by Mike Winger and others, exploring how prophecy abuse and leadership silence can damage trust in the church and distort the witness of the gospel. As continuationists who affirm the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit, we believe accountability is not an attack on the charismatic movement—it is essential to its integrity.Critical Questions Discussed:-Is Bethel's apology genuine or just PR spin?-What does biblical restoration require beyond saying "I'm sorry"?-Why did it take Mike Winger's exposé for leadership to act?-What about Kenneth Copeland, The Passion Translation, and other concerning endorsements?-How can churches protect victims while reconciling fallen leaders to the body of Christ? Our goal is not to tear down, but to tell the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15), to test everything and hold fast to what is good (1 Thessalonians 5:21), and to call the Church to holiness, transparency, and faithfulness to Christ. If you care about sound theology, responsible use of spiritual gifts, and protecting God's people from spiritual harm, this conversation is for you.Special thanks to the Bethel alumni who held their leaders accountable—your faithfulness in speaking truth in love catalyzed this moment of repentance. This could be a watershed moment for the charismatic movement if genuine fruit follows these words.0:00 – Introduction2:04 – Context and Prior Bethel Concerns13:23 – Bethel's Response 23:23 – Kris Vallotton's Personal Disclosure30:28 – The Jezebel Passage Misinterpretation33:34 – Bethel's New Core Values 38:10 – Bethel Issues That Remain Unaddressed49:03 – Bill Johnson's Repentance Message1:00:40 – Bill Johnson's TBN Interview Mistake1:17:43 – Danny Silk's Email 1:34:05 – Final Thoughts Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. On January 11th, 2026 Kris shared a powerful message about developing a wealth culture with a legacy mindset. In this sermon, he shares Joseph's story from a perspective you may have never considered, how his supernatural gifts were disconnected from God's eternal wisdom. We often celebrate Joseph's rise to power, but fail to see how his slave mentality and broken upbringing created solutions that enslaved future generations. Are your high values actually your core values? Kris challenges us to examine whether our supernatural experiences are paired with the mind of Christ, or if we're making decisions based on past wounds. Listen in as we discover how to think multi-generationally and create solutions that bless, not burden, those who come after us.
