Josh is one of many in the accounting world whose health became a personal concern, gaining weight after only 13 months at his first accounting job. After a break-up with his then girlfriend, it was the final motivator to become more active outside of work by first getting into cycling. It was also natural for him to get into fishing and boating, growing up near a lake during his childhood. In this episode, Josh talks about his experiences in his active lifestyle, how it has benefitted him personally as well as professionally, being a platform to establish relationships and connections. John also tells a funny story on how he handled a heckler during a comedy show.

From Entry-level To Partner Josh truly has a work-your-way-up story and we were honored that he was open to sharing it with our audience. Josh's personal situation was such that he needed to work full-time in a regular job during college, and therefore he didn't have the opportunity to search out internships because it would cut too much into his work schedule and consequently the living he needed to make.  When he graduated with his Bachelors degree in Accounting though, then it was time to get very serious about finding that first professional position.  Josh recounts the process he went through, but suffice it to say that he was very systematic in his approach and it paid off.  He started as an entry-level staff member at Edgar Kiker & Cross, and not too many years later he was offered the opportunity to become a partner at the firm. Hurricane Harvey While we spend much of the time in this interview covering career-related matters, we also took the opportunity to get Josh's own personal viewpoint on the devastation that had been caused by Hurricane Harvey there in the Gulf area of Texas just less than a year ago. Luckily he and his family were spared severe damage from the storm, but none the less the whole area was affected.  Josh tells about some of his experiences gathering supplies, helping out neighbors, and dealing with the business delays caused by the simple lack of water.  It took almost 2 weeks before the office itself had a potable water supply!  They were definitely fortunate to be spared even more significant issues given the breadth of the damage that area sustained.  Some areas got over 60 inches of rain. Please make sure to listen in on our discussion with Josh. We definitely wanted to cover the storm experience given the geographical area and what had occurred, but this is also one of our best career-growth related episodes as well. It’s refreshing to know that bands still create buzz and build a fan base the old fashion way. By playing what they love, being recognized by local clubs, and expanding through traditional word of mouth outlets.During January of 2009 in Lafayette, LA a quintet was developing from the idea that traditional African, Cajun and Zydeco elements, can be held together with an experimental glue. Taylor Guarisco and Tiffany Lamson were home from the University of New Orleans, after Hurricane Katrina. The two had been playing since 2005 and were now experimenting with, Kirby Campbell on drums, and Josh LeBlanc who then was known as one of the most impressive trumpet players in the area, but now on bass.Kirby was attending Berklee College of Music but after a late night jam, Guarisco posed the question that they should start a band. The chemistry must have been magic that night, because Kirby decided to stay, and a few months later Taylor received a call from a local venue looking to fill a last minute opening. At that point the band had found their six-pieces, with Will Henderson on keys, sax and whatever else he could blow into, alongside him multi-instrumentalist Nick Stephan. The groups years of improvisational practice had finally paid off, the band would play two hours that night, and forced them to come up with a name. They decided on Givers a track from the band Lucky Dragons.As time has marched on the group has lost Will as a member but this band is steamrolling their way into notoriety.
