The Assembly Call IU Basketball Podcast and Postgame Show

Indiana's struggles with consistency continued even in victory, as stretches of dominant play were mixed with concerning lapses in what became a closer-than-expected 69-58 win over UNC Greensboro. The Hoosiers jumped out to an early 21-4 lead but allowed UNCG to battle back and tie the game in the second half before freshman Bryson Tucker helped IU pull away. Poor defensive rebounding and stagnant offensive stretches provided reasons for concern heading into next week's Battle 4 Atlantis tournament. Key topics discussed:Bryson Tucker's breakout second half performance (14 points, including 12 after halftime) providing a crucial sparkMyles Rice's strong overall game (20 points, 6 assists) but heavy 35-minute workloadDefensive rebounding issues allowing 17 offensive boards to a smaller UNCG teamContinued low 3-point attempt volume despite preseason emphasis on increasing perimeter shotsBench rotation challenges and finding the right lineup combinationsGrowing importance of upcoming Louisville game and Battle 4 Atlantis tournament for NCAA resumePlus, as always, the Banner Moment, Meaningful Moments You Might Have Missed, Inside the Numbers, and our Game Balls, Hustle Award, and Lingering Questions. When we think about consuming art, whether reading a book, visiting a museum, or maybe watching an outdoor performance act, we rarely consider the administrative efforts that go into making art possible. Creative administration is an evolving field that considers the innovation and organizational management necessary to create and present art. Artists find themselves having to balance their own vision, with the practicalities of physical production, collaboration, and so many other factors. Artists on Creative Administration: A Workbook from the National Center for Choreography, is a collection curated by Tonya Lockyer, containing firsthand accounts of creative administration in action. Lockyer is focused on telling stories that can help others progress, making a point to state, “This book is for anyone looking for paths forward; for anyone who believes we are in an exceptional moment of change—change is happening and needs to happen.” Please join us at Town Hall for an expansive conversation on the arts, leadership, and the craft of creative administration. Tonya Lockyer is an award-winning movement artist, choreographer, writer, and cultural curator. Lockyer was the executive and artistic director of Velocity Dance Center in Seattle from 2011 to 2018. Currently, she is also an adjunct professor in Arts Leadership at Seattle University. Her new anthology, Artists on Creative Administration, features the voices of thirty artists and arts workers, sharing their experiences as they navigate issues of equity, design, leadership, collaboration, family, ethics, and care. Jackson Cooper is the Executive Director of the American Genre Film Archive, the world's largest nonprofit archive and distributor dedicated to preserving, collecting, and presenting the greatest genre films of all time. The last time I had the privilege of interviewing Rhiannon Giddens it was in 2017 at Edmonton Folk Fest. In the next five years, she became a World star. For example: In October 2017, Giddens was named one of the 2017 class of MacArthur "Genius" Fellows. In 2017 and 2018, Giddens appeared in the fifth and sixth seasons of the CMT's  In January 2018, Giddens co-produced Songs of Our Native Daughters for Smithsonian Folkways. in early 2018, the Nashville Ballet announced that Rhiannon Giddens has been commissioned to write the music for Lucy Negro, Redux. In 2019, Giddens released two studio albums: Songs of Our Native Daughters  and There Is No Other with Italian musician Francesco Turrisi Giddens earned an Honorary Doctor of Letters from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for her lasting impact on the UNCG community and her work in music. In 2023, she was awarded an honorary Doctor of Music from Princeton University In other words, the last 5-6 years have been a delightful blur. Thus my first question was …what do you remember of the last 5 years? If anyone is going to change music in her lifetime – it's Rhiannon Giddens!!   Enjoy.

On this episode of The Schoch Factor Podcast, we are joined by one of the hardest working men in college baseball, UNC Greensboro two-way star Caleb Cozart.I say this for a multitude of reasons. He pitches and he hits – he actually is now the single-season home run record holder for UNCG after only his second full season of hitting at the college level. And in the world of NIL, where we see some players get paid just to be themselves, Caleb is out here working a demolition job 8-12 every day of the week. He's doing this while being a student and college baseball player, which is insanely impressive and hard to do. I remember when I worked at State Farm for an offseason. It was exhausting, and all I had to do at practice was throw about a 15-pitch bullpen. This dude is out here doing it and then doing a full practice.Besides that, Caleb has had what I would define as one of the rockier college baseball experiences, from blowing out his elbow 12 pitches into his freshman fall, to finding out he had a brain tumor a handful of months later. You may think you had a tough time finding your footing in college, but to say this dude had a lot on his plate is a massive understatement. Through all of that, though, what is inspiring is the fact that Caleb never used this bad luck as an excuse or ever truly had too long of a pity party. He may say he did for a bit, but looking at his timeline, this warrants at least a year or two of being bummed, and Caleb took like a week and was back to just putting his head down and getting to work.I don't often talk in certainties or at extremes, but I can confidently say after listening to this episode, you will want to live life a little bit more like Caleb! The Schoch Factor is brought to you by Soldier Sports.Follow Stephen on Twitter: @BigDonkey47Follow the podcast on Twitter: @SchochFactorPodSubscribe to The Schoch Factor on Apple | SpotifyThe Schoch Factor is also brought to you by Baseball BBQ. Welcome to a soulful episode of Rock is Lit. If you've got a hankering for that sweet soul music—the kind that echoes with the sounds of Otis Redding, Al Green, Sly & The Family Stone, and Aretha Franklin—then you're in for a treat. My fellow Tar Heel native Michael Parker is here to talk about his novel ‘If You Want Me to Stay', a story in which 14-year-old narrator Joel Dunn, Jr., takes us on a poignant odyssey. Joel, Jr., shares the heartfelt tale of salvaging his family in the aftermath of his mother's departure and his father's unraveling sanity. From the rural landscapes of eastern North Carolina to the coastal vistas, Joel and his little brother Tank embark on a journey guided by junk food and the soulful melodies their daddy taught them to love. Michael Parker is the author of three collections of short stories and seven other novels, including his most recent, 2022's ‘I Am the Light of This World'. He is a three-time winner of the O.
