Send us a textAMERICAN SNIPERThe once distant end of Season 14's curated rewatched flicks is now in our sights as the TGTPTU crew pulls the trigger on their final movie of the eight enlisted pairs mustering their Redux Season, taking aim at Clint Eastwood's highest grossing film: AMERICAN SNIPER (2014).  Originally covered early in the pod's first season (S1, E5 in Year 2020) and chosen by host Thomas who'd never seen, this American Sniper revisit offers new insight into the film the original hosting duo of Ken and Jack ranked as the worst of any Eastwood-starring or -directed picture in their Season 3 final rankings episode that concluded the Eastwood run of the show. Frequent guest Erik Van Der Wolf provides the episode's cold open; bookworm and host Thomas read almost half the Chris Kyle's titular book; host Ken takes aim with some advice to filmmakers regarding a pre-shooting watch of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace; former host Jack, aka last episode's Judas, sticks to his guns; and host Ryan joins Thomas to geek out about a Buffy the Vampire connection. Listen to the end of the episode for season rankings of the eight films re-covered to see if American Sniper maintains its title as the worst Eastwood for Ken and Jack and for new hosts Ryan and Thomas as well as for the surprise announcement of the season's four-film extension.  Next ep: The start of the one-offs. Well done, fellas and Liz. THEME SONG BY: WEIRD A.I.Email: thegoodthepodandtheugly@gmail.comFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/TGTPTUInstagram: https://instagram.com/thegoodthepodandtheugly?igshid=um92md09kjg0Bluesky: @goodpodugly.bsky.socialYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6mI2plrgJu-TB95bbJCW-gBuzzsprout: https://thegoodthepodandtheugly.buzzsprout.com/Letterboxd (follow us!): Podcast: goodpoduglyKen: Ken KoralRyan: Ryan Tobias

Send us a textWHITE HUNTER, BLACK HEART Episode 7, and you can feel the excitement of the hunt this episode, the first of TGTPTU's final paired rewatches of the Redux Season (Season 14) and another double Eastwood starting with a bang with WHITE HUNTER, BLACK HEART (1990, originally covered by TGTPTU during Season 3, Episode 9).   As flick curator extraordinaire Ken's second rewatch pick, the o.g. host hopes to sway opinion his way, believing this adaptation by Peter Viertel of his autobiographical roman à clef dramatizing his work and consternation with John Huston during preproduction on The African Queen to be a masterpiece, approaching Unforgiven in its use of Eastwood's (playing director John Wilson, a thinly veiled Huston) Hollywood persona. And Ken might just have an adherent in new host Ryan, who has a take(s) about Eastwood and the 1990's cinema scene and auteur theory and potential deeper meanings of this film. And Thomas offers insight into his own autobiography's veracity in the chapters that have him inventing snowboarding and fighting ninjas. Meanwhile, host Jack read was able to read 0% of the book to prepare for the ep and takes the brunt of Ken's anger upon relistening to the original episode.   On that episode nearly a half-decade ago, Jack had opined the film mid. Fellow Gen Z'er Thomas who'd guested on that original episode with Ken and Jack also found the movie somewhere between. But a rewatch with new pairings and fresh eyes outside the marathon of covering every Eastwood film during the first three seasons has surprises in store! Someone is called a Judas, and someone sticks to his elephant guns. Listen to find out who.  And if you ever wondered why the voice in the recent seasons' intro songs is “not supposed to fight with the guests, Mr. Wilson,” then you might just understand after listening, you yellow bastard.  THEME SONG BY: WEIRD A.I.Email: thegoodthepodandtheugly@gmail.comFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/TGTPTUInstagram: https://instagram.com/thegoodthepodandtheugly?igshid=um92md09kjg0Bluesky: @goodpodugly.bsky.socialYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6mI2plrgJu-TB95bbJCW-gBuzzsprout: https://thegoodthepodandtheugly.buzzsprout.com/Letterboxd (follow us!): Podcast: goodpoduglyKen: Ken KoralRyan: Ryan Tobias

Issue 194 - Thunderbolt Ross Intro Captain America: Brave New World reaction coming to Patreon Background (1:38) General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in The Incredible Hulk #1 (May 1962) Lieutenant General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross oversees gamma bomb project that ultimately leads to the creation of the Hulk (Bruce Banner) Grew up in a military family, and was focused on serving his country from a young age - joined the Army Air Corps (later Air Force) and worked his way up through the ranks Bruce's growing relationship with Ross' daughter Betty was a source of frustration and anger for him, as was the recurring nuisance of the Hulk - Ross made it his personal mission to find and destroy the Hulk Several times he allied with villains to battle the Hulk, which ultimately led to his dismissal from the military Betty and Bruce get engaged, but the Leader turns Hulk savage, and the wedding is called off - Betty later marries Glenn Talbot, and Ross is satisfied that Banner will never be his son-in-law When Talbot was captured by the Soviets in a rescue mission to save Ross, his apparent death fractured his relationship with Betty, as well as a demotion at work because of his inability to capture the Hulk Betty divorced Talbot and revealed she still loved Bruce - enraged by this, Ross allied with MODOK to have the Abomination kill the Hulk, but Betty caught wind of the plan and accused her father of treason - he was discharged from the Air Force and nearly committed suicide When Bruce and Betty get married, Ross shows up at the wedding with a gun to stop the ceremony - Rick Jones intervenes and is shot non-fatally In a SHIELD experiment he merges with Zzzax, a being of sentient electrical energy - in a battle with a mutant, he expends his energy to save Betty, and dies His body was resurrected by the Leader, and he rejoins the Air Force After Betty is killed by the Abomination and Hulk is exiled by the Illuminati, Ross sinks into an alcoholic depression - when Steve Rogers is shot, he is visited by MODOK and the Leader and offered a chance to gain Hulk-like powers - he then becomes Red Hulk, and his first act is to kill the Abomination for murdering Betty Ross' identity as the Hulk is kept secret for over two years before being revealed during World War Hulks He later joins the Avengers, where he befriended an LMD named Annie that helped give him some perspective and understanding about things Temporarily bonds with both the Venom symbiote and the Spirit of Vengeance, becoming a being known as the Circle of Four - this is to defeat Blackheart, son of Mephisto Gets depowered by Doc Green, a super-intelligent version of the Hulk Issues - Theme is “a small river flowing long enough becomes a canyon” (7:10) When tradition becomes a trap Overprotective of his daughter (13:44) Oh yeah, the Hulk stuff (25:15) Break (29:06) Plugs for Play Comics & Geek Peak Treatment (30:19) In-universe -  Out of universe - (32:37) Skit (39:51) Hello General Ross, I'm Dr. Issues. - Doctor, with all due respect, let's set the record straight. I didn't come here for treatment. I came here for a clean bill of health. I've been involved in enough government missions, secret protocols, and super-powered expeditions that I should be the last one to hide from any flaws. I'm not perfect, but I don't have to be. And that was before I learned about getting red in the face. Well, that is a hot start, General -I don't do jokes, if you don't mind. There are serious matters at hand. But you…I'll keep that in mind. Sheesh. There are always serious matters at hand. That's how the world works. That doesn't mean they all have to involve you. -Agreed. I pick my spots. But those are enormous spots. I know my enemy better than they know themselves. That's what's lacking in battles nowadays. The foe has no concept of planning. So many people think being random makes you dangerous. It just makes you a fool. Well, not to sound condescending, but I doubt all of your plans go the way you want them to. -A plan is useless. PLANNING is indispensable. Do you know who said that? Dwight Eisenhower. So you enjoy the process necessary to reach goals, and not just the goal itself. -If I didn't then I would have stopped existing a long time ago. I think people get that wrong about me. They think I'm some madman that wants to destroy the Hulk at all costs. And that was wrong…how? -I was never a madman. I'm calculating the whole way through. The heat thing says otherwise -Emotion in battle, Doctor. It's something you can't wrap your head around. Oh yeah, I get the rage, but in the fog of war, that can be the guide to see you through. No hippie woo woo love fest is going to save you when bullets are zipping and bombs are dropping. The only time you bring in God is to say “Thank God it's over” and you've won. You present more demure than expected. -You sound like one of those Gen Z types when you say that. You're a grown man. Act like it. So no social media memes; understood sir. But are you really past everything that's listed in your file? Banner? Betty? Intelligencia? Avengers? It says here your own likeness was killed! None of that sounds traumatic to you? -Of course it does. So what? We all have trauma. I used to let it eat at me, just shove it down my own throat, and let it all come out when the time is right. But with what I have now, there's no secrets. It's on my skin, in my veins, and radiating through the air. I finally found a way to have nothing to hide. My choices, my fights, my consequences. Anything to add to that? You're hitting the same note. What brings you enjoyment? How about sadness? Do you have any fears left? -You're breaking the cardinal rule; you're supposed to ask one question at a time. I'm sad that too many people think too small for their entire lives. I find joy in being one of the few living creatures to destroy multiple so-called badasses because I can adjust tactically and not be held down by magical thinking. I fear that anything less than a perfect rating in this assessment will leave me with a permanent mark that will have me use your office as a rage room.  *pause* Didn't you shoot someone at your daughter's wed -*interrupting* RAGE. ROOM.  You don't have to be so pushy about it. -So, are you slapping the PTSD label on like everyone else? No, I'll think outside the box and go I-G-E-D. -What the hell is that? Intermittent Gamma Explosive Disorder -*Groans* Doc Samson was right about you. Episode 31 - Murdock and Marvel: 1990 Part 2 As we start the 90s Marvel and DC are approaching monopoly status on comic store shelves, leaving other publishers to look for success at the margins.  But if you are a big fan of the Big 2, 1990 was a good time to be reading comic books!  This is part 2 of the podcast. that will feature the year in Daredevil, the Spotlight story and the Takeaway for 1990.   The Year in Daredevil  Appearances: Daredevil #276-287, Wolverine #21, Captain America #368, 374 - 376, Count Duckula #10, Punisher Magazine #8 and 15-16, What if…? #13, 15, 17, 20, Marvel Comics presents #49 and Daredevil: Marked for Death and Elektra Lives Again graphic novels  Writing credits: Ann Nocenti (276-287)   Pencilers: John Romita Jr (276, 278-282), Rick Leonardi (277), Mark Bagley (283), Lee Weeks (284-285, 287), Greg Capullo (286)  Inks: Al Williamson (276-282, 284-285, 287), Williamson and Tom Morgan (283), Doug Hazlewood (286) As the year begins, The Acts of Vengeance event continues with Ultron looking to take Number Nine as a bride and Daredevil must try to save her.  Next, we get an out of timeline story involving Daredevil and a psychologist whose star patient is his wife. Back to the current timeline, The Inhumans are set to leave for Pottersville in search of Black Bolts' son and it turms into a road trip for them, Daredevil, Number 9 and Brandy. Meanwhile, Blackheart and Mephisto discuss the finer points of evil and Blackheart is tasked with making Daredevil and the others do evil.  In Pottersville, the team finds a boy, Pope, with powers who the town is scared of and wants to kill him. They save the boy, but in the aftermath fall into a crack in the earth caused by an earthquake. We then see Daredevil and his companions experience different versions of Hell before a final showdown with Mephisto in which they are aided by the Silver Surfer.  Next, we get a single (what I assume is out of timeline) story in which Captain America and Daredevil are trying to help an inventor whose fantastic invention could change the world. This social issue focused book will be our spotlight story this week.  Daredevil finally returns to New York, but his memories are scrambled by the recent trip to Hell. Not knowing who he really is, he assumes the identity of Jack Murdock. Bullseye finds out about the confusion and decides to take advantage of the situation by impersonating the horned hero.  The rest of the year we see Matt Murdock meet a homeless woman, Nyla, who takes him in and the two become close. Murdock becomes a boxer, like his father, at Fogwell's Gym and Bullseye continues stealing from the rich and beating up police to ruin the reputation of the once great hero. Ben Urich returns and seems to realize things don't add up and goes looking for Matt Murdock.   In the final panels of the year, we see Wilson Fisk at a “Jack Murdock” boxing match and he too recognizes his former adversary.    New Powers, Toys or Places: Still in upstate New York to start the year, we see the team head to Hell/Mephisto's realm across several books before returning to familiar New York City. New Supporting Characters: Daniel and Vivian (psychologist and his wife), Pope (Boy in Pottersville's with powers that the townsfolk want to kill), Victor Cieszkowska (Inventor disillusioned by the US and their people), Nyla (homeless woman that befriends Matt Murdock while he's going by Jack Murdock, becomes a love interest) New Villains:  This Week's Spotlight: Daredevil #283 August 1990 “The American Nightmare” Recap Why We Picked This Story The Takeaway Marvel has won. But the information is good, and it is presented in an entertaining fashion.  So its decent, but I would recommend you see if you can just borrow it from the library instead of purchasing.  Wells, John.  American Comic Book Chronicles: 1960-1964.  Raleigh: Two Morrows, 2015.  Not cheap, but a fantastic series that is informative and fun to read.  Wright, Bradford.  Comic Book Nation: The Transformation of Youth Culture in America.  Baltimore: Johns Hopkins University Press, 2001.  This is the revised edition.  Marvel Year By Year: A Visual History.  New York: DK Publishing, 2022.  The academic in my rails at using information from any work that doesn't have an author credit, but this is a decent (if very surface) look at each year in the history of Timely / Marvel from 1939 to 2021.    Cowsill, Alan et al.  DC Comics Year by Year: A Visual History.  New York: DK Publishing, 2010.  Because its nice to occasionally take a peek at what the Distinguished Competition is up to.  Dauber, Jeremy.  American Comics: A History.  New York, W.W. Norton & Company, 2022.  An excellent, relatively compact history of the domestic comic industry from its 19th century origins through to recent 21st century developments.  An excellent successor to Bradford Wright's Comic Book Nation.

The Great Metal Debate Podcast

Welcome to another episode of The Great Metal Debate podcast, talking about the Dutch blackened death metal band God Dethroned with their 12th studio album The Judas Paradox. While this band certainly has its slight black metal vibes, I've always seen them as more of a melodic death metal band. Their guitar riffs have always been calm and groovy. Two years ago, God Dethroned announced they had switched record labels to sign with Rising Phoenix Music for their next full-length. Fast forward to about two months ago when they released another new song titled "Rat Kingdom". This time around I became very excited because the new song seemed to be leagues superior to the previous single they dropped two years ago. The 2nd single released happens to be both the album title track and the first song on the album. I gotta mention the use of choir in the mix. It's a fantastic addition and sounds completely new. "The Hanged Man" is a song that kicks some serious ass with its Deicide vibes. The layered vocals make it sound extra demonic and it even reminds me of the song "Conquered By Sodom". There's also an old school sounding guitar solo on this one. It's one of the shorter songs but it's definitely a standout. Moving on we have an interlude track labeled as "Black Heart" which is only 51 seconds long. It's a dissonant choir practicing their vowels with church bells ringing. But it leads straight into that song that I mentioned earlier called "Asmodeus". This time I really paid attention to this song so I could absorb every note being played. I wanted to really study this one to see if my opinion of this song would change. The results? When I compared this album version of the track to the music video, there weren't any changes made in the sound mixing. It still sounded like the one and only stale track this band has ever made. It felt soulless compared to every banger this band has produced in the past 27 years. I guess a dud was bound to happen sooner or later, although it did sound better than I remembered. Maybe because this time I had a clear head. "Kashmir Princess" is another song where I remember the riff. As monotonous as it was, I was slightly reminded of one of their earlier works. Not saying that Dave Meester had recycled any riffs but I did get the "Rusty Nails" feeling, albeit, not as heavy. The next track really picks up the pace again to the God Dethroned we all wanted. "Hubris Anorexia" begins with three long screams that are layered in succession. It's here where I have to give both Henri and Dave credit for their winding guitar efforts. Dave also continues to show off his skills as a shredder in "The Eye of Providence". "Hailing Death" is another banger that will make you shout "Hailing Death" every time they say it throughout the song's first minute. This one has another gorgeous guitar riff at the halfway point of the track. Too bad it doesn't last long. It does make a very brief return towards the end of the song which fits as a neat little outro. "Broken Bloodlines" wastes absolutely no time going hard and fast from the first fucking second! The speed of the guitar chugs are aggressively heavy and will make any Taylor Swift fan's head explode. And finally we come to the last song on the album "War Machine". When I saw this song title, I automatically assumed it was a Black Sabbath cover but then I thought, wait a minute, Six Feet Under already did a cover of that. As I listened to this song, I figured out right away that this is an original song by God Dethroned that simply has a name that has been used before. The song is okay, but not their best work. I feel like "Hailing Death" should've been the last track because it had the audio fade out at the end. I feel like it would've worked a lot better. So what's the verdict? God Dethroned has never had a bad album and The Judas Paradox isn't their first. It is not a disappointment by any means. I'm going to rate The Judas Paradox a 7.5/10.

Guinness. It's synonymous with the word stout.... but is it the best and could we pick it out of a line up. 11% of beer sold in the UK is Guinness - so it's no wonder that a couple of beers have gone up against it recently. We blind taste test the classic Guinness and a couple of upstarts : Conor McGregor's Forged Irish Stout and BrewDog's Black Heart... and just for good measure, we see if we can spot the Guinness Zero too. We also rate them and pick our favourite whilst intermingling the conversation with facts, stories and conjecture. Finally, after seeing the Gonster (A Guinness and Monster cocktail) on the Guinness Community Facebook page -ahem, amongst other things- we give that a go to - is it Genius or a Monstrosity? The opening music is "London Bayou" by Oscar Albis Rodrigues and the closing music is "BDS" by Lewis Pickford. tallboyradio.com

Https://www.patreon.com/isyanderandkoda You already know how to please the Machine Gods at this point so thank you so much. And make your voices heard for which faction you would like to see next! -Isyander Everything below is for the omnissiah. But like, you can read it if you want. Just a synopsis of the video you're watching. The Dark Eldar, also known as Drukhari, are a sinister and malevolent faction in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Originating from the ancient Eldar civilization before its catastrophic fall, the Dark Eldar differ from their Craftworld kin by embracing the corruption that led to their society's downfall. They retreated into the Webway, establishing the dark metropolis of Commorragh. This city, vast and labyrinthine, is the heart of Dark Eldar civilization, a place of perpetual darkness and home to millions of Dark Eldar and alien beasts. Commorragh is divided into numerous districts, each controlled by different Kabals, Wych Cults, and Haemonculi Covens, featuring gladiatorial arenas, armories, and vehicle baysDark Eldar society is structured around these Kabals, Wych Cults, and Haemonculi Covens. Each Kabal is led by an Archon, who maintains power through assassination and ruthless governance. Wyches, the gladiatorial warriors, are organized into Wych Cults, performing in arenas for both sustenance and entertainment. The Haemonculi, twisted flesh-sculptors, run the Covens, providing dark technologies and grotesque enhancements. Over time, Dark Eldar suffer from "The Thirst," an all-consuming need to drink the souls of other beings to stave off the leeching effect of Slaanesh, the Chaos God who consumes their souls upon death Biologically, Dark Eldar possess superior strength, reflexes, and senses compared to their Craftworld cousins, attributed to their physically demanding lifestyle and perpetual conflict within Commorragh. They lack psychic abilities, avoiding them to prevent attracting the attention of Slaanesh. Technologically, Dark Eldar are highly advanced, utilizing anti-gravity devices, dark matter weaponry, and various poisonous and destructive tools. Their weaponry, such as Splinter Rifles, Dark Lances, and specialized close combat weapons, emphasizes speed, precision, and lethality. Vehicles like the Raider and Voidraven Bomber are designed for rapid assaults and devastating strikes Notable figures in Dark Eldar society include Asdrubael Vect, the supreme overlord of the Kabal of the Black Heart, and Lelith Hesperax, the renowned gladiator and leader of the Wych Cult of Strife. These leaders epitomize the cunning, ruthlessness, and martial prowess that define the Dark Eldar TIMESTAMPS —— 0:00:00 Intro0:08:19 The Fall of the Eldar0:16:40 The Birth of Slaanesh0:27:05 The Dark City0:36:15 Vect0:43:57 A Day in the Life of a Drukhari0:50:19 Tho(oug)ts?——TAGSWarhammer 40k, Dark Eldar, Drukhari, Commorragh, Eldar civilization, Webway, Kabal, Archon, Wych Cult, Haemonculi Coven, Slaanesh, Chaos God, The Thirst, Dark Eldar society, Dark Eldar history, Dark Eldar technology, Splinter Rifle, Dark Lance, Raider, Voidraven Bomber, Asdrubael Vect, Lelith Hesperax, Kabal of the Black Heart, Wych Cult of Strife, Dark Eldar weaponry, Dark Eldar armor, Dark Eldar vehicles, Kabalite Warrior, Trueborn, Haemonculus, Agoniser, Razorflail, Shardnet, Impaler, Hydra Gauntlet, Dark matter weaponry, Splinter Cannon, Haemonculus Covens, Incubus, Eldar gladiators, Dark Eldar raids, Warhammer 40,000 lore, Warhammer universe, Warhammer factions, Warhammer 40k history, Warhammer 40k technology, Warhammer 40k battles, Warhammer 40k characters, Warhammer 40k society, Warhammer 40k weapons, Dark Eldar leaders, Dark Eldar tactics, Dark Eldar campaigns, Dark Eldar biology, Warhammer 40k Webway, Eldar FalSupport the Show.

[originally published on Patreon Sep 22, 2023] cw: rape, assault, etc. This is the first episode about the serial killer Israel Keyes. I begin with the logical starting place: the Keyes family, and get into a brief history of Christian Identity in the UK and US. From there, we discuss the Kehoe family including some interesting details which are often left out of the conversation. Then I go over Israel's early life and upbringing, his early military service, his first major relationship, and end discussing Israel's Grand Plan. (note 1: I wrote and recorded this before I had Wendy Painting on the show and consequently realized I kept saying 'Aberrations' instead of Aberration in the Heartland of the Real, the correct title note 2: I have learned much more about Fort Gulick since writing these episodes and I think Keyes was trained there) Songs: I Saw the Sign by Ace of Base Loco by Coal Chamber (when talking about psychiatric evaluation?) It's part 2 and we continue our engaging dialogue with Ana Quincoces and Beba Stapleton from "The Real Housewives of Miami."  We kick off with Ana clarifying her decision not to return to "RHOM," citing mental health concerns and the predictability of the show's storyline. We critique the current cast's quality compared to figures like Adrienne Maloof, discussing the need for younger, more genuine personalities reality TV. A lively debate about the financial realities of being a Housewife unfolds, touching on the hidden costs behind the glamour. She also shares her opinion that she would now be considered too "boring" for the current cast lineup.  Ana emphasizes the importance of self-awareness and admits that the allure of fame and a substantial paycheck keeps many cast members hooked. The conversation takes a sharp turn when the hosts and guests discuss Larsa Pippen's divisive role in the show, with Beba branding her as "demonic" and a "liar." The conversation shifts to celebrity gossip during the "Haute Topics" segment, where we all share candid thoughts on royal controversies, sharp opinions on Prince William's alleged infidelity and Meghan Markle's perceived impact on Prince Harry's life. Pol' even recalls a time when he designed dresses for the "Deal or No Deal" briefcase models and overheard the criticism Meghan Markle faced.  The fashion segment, "Runway Rundown," offers a hilarious critique of celebrity outfits, with the group particularly disapproving of Kristen Stewart's unconventional look and Wayne Brady's bold attire at the GLAAD Awards. We end when Pol' showcases his inherited talent for Armenian coffee readings, offering Ana and Beba personalized insights that blend mystical wisdom with practical advice. Pol' predicts professional growth and personal achievements for Ana, including her impactful children's book. For Beba, he foresees family expansion and new creative endeavors and the reading takes an unexpected turn when Pol reveals a heart shape in Beba's coffee cup, symbolizing the impending arrival of a new baby and indicating major life changes for her.
