Whether serving in the marketplace or in ministry, as executives or rank-and-file employees, as salaried staff or volunteer servants, good leaders can pinpoint the rationale for their actions and decisions with the ease of reciting their home address. In Axiom, author Bill Hybels divulges the God-given convictions that have dictated his leadership strategy for more than three decades as senior pastor of Willow Creek Community Church. The Emotionally Healthy Leader by Peter Scazzero description: Do you feel too overwhelmed to enjoy life, unable to sort out the demands on your time? Are you doing your best work as a leader, yet not making an impact? Have you ever felt stuck, powerless to change your environment? In The Emotionally Healthy Leader, bestselling author Peter Scazzero shows leaders how to develop a deep, inner life with Christ, examining its profound implications for surviving stress, planning and decision making, building teams, creating healthy culture, influencing others, and much more. 105: Steve Smith—What Emerging Leaders Need To Be Effective In Today's Workplace

Listen now as Steve Smith talks about how leaders must adapt to changing times!  Have you noticed? Leadership is changing—a lot—which is causing emerging leaders to wonder what skills they'll need to be effective in today's culturally diverse, technologically supercharged workplace. If you're wondering too, you'll love today's podcast with Steve Smith, President and Founder of GrowthSource Coaching. Steve and I speak about the shift from a hierarchical, top-down leadership style to a more collaborative, team-building, results-focused one. Don't miss it!  Everything's changing...the culture, the workplace, how different generations approach tasks...everything Partly coming from the shifting of generations, partly from new ways of getting work done—from partially to totally virtual, and from locally to globally—the boss-employee relationship is going through a massive transformation. As today's guest Steve Smith describes it, "The challenge is in getting things done with a different model for how to talk to people, how you guide them, how you demand accountability and how you build an environment where they feel they should deliver on time and to budget. These are strong values. At times today, they are missing. It takes the right leader to craft the right visualization for his or her team and get employees to embrace this vision to move ahead, together." What will future leaders need to be more effective? As so many leaders today are discovering, new technology is transforming the workplace, but it's not the technology that has to be managed, it's the workplace and the people within it. How people interact with customers is changing, too, as consumers are expecting results faster and cheaper with more flexibility and quality. There is a new conversation that is needed now, focusing more on why we are doing something and less on the task to be done.  Leveraging the new to improve upon the old During our conversation, Steve emphasized the importance of showing respect for the old while moving beyond it. As a corporate anthropologist, I quite agree. Transforming an organization by introducing AI, bots to do audits or chatbots to perform customer service is going to be the crux of the leadership challenge. Do your people know how to navigate this new world? And what do most leaders rely on that does not work well anymore? Their position of power. As we say all the time at SAMC, time to change. Some background on Steve  Steve Smith is President and Founder of GrowthSource Coaching in Orange County, CA, which provides leadership, management and marketing coaching to business owners, executives and entrepreneurs worldwide. Today we will be talking with Steve Smith about proven leadership skills to grow by. He's the president of the Growth Source Coaching, in Orange County, California. He provides performance coaching services to business owners, and a variety of professional industrial and trade industry. He’s focused on helping people replace limited thinking, unproductive habits, and poor decisions.  Making with confidence, building strategies for reaching truly extraordinary outcomes is what he is widely known for. Steve speaks to businesses, professional organizations, co-host business podcast and writes to numerous publications. Today we are going to be talking about Steve’s new book, Leadership Axioms. Leadership is something we all look at and we look at it differently. If we want to become a leader, we need to become a leader that we are willing to follow. Leadership is all about dealing with people. It involves management systems and how the business operates on a whole. It is directed towards how do you worked with and get the most out of the people that you hire, the people that are working for you and your company. So, many times initially the reaction of some people are how they want their employees to work as to how they want it to be, which is the typical approach of not looking who they want to be in order for their employees to follow them. The working environment in the present times has radically changed that it doesn’t almost work anymore. The norm used to be “Do as I say and not as I do”. But now if we are to look at things in a different perspective, the people you oversee are what matters. If they operate on a top-notch level it reflects on you. The leadership and growth principles are there but this time, being a leader is about what we are doing together. When people trust you, care about you, when they are willing to extend great amount of time and effort in helping you achieve your goal it’s when you are assured that you hit the mark because people feel that they the leader they are following are also interested about them, this person thinks about the well-being of their employees and hone them in the best way possible. But, when you are working with someone who is all about them, all about what they want then the natural reaction would be is that the people will be looking for a different company to work for. When you are hiring someone, in the first 30 days, as a boss you have to set proper expectation and then ask them what exactly is important for them and you will be surprised as to what they will tell you and this, in result, will help you give the right assistance for them in the long run. The title of this book is interesting. Axiom means are well aged, universally accepted truths needing no proof. The book contains 14 principles but we’ll be talking some of it. Axiom 2: Accountability – We are generally not taught to be accountable to ourselves so if somewhere along the line, we have that initiative to commit to a great work and desire to help people to do their best on a top-notch level, then you are able to show good leadership by making them perform to the best of their ability. Axiom 3: Building Trust – When you provide genuine feedback to your employees in private and on the other hand you acknowledge their good work publicly this makes them feel that the trust is there because they will see the importance of being an employee to your company. They will know that their boss does care about them. Axiom 6: Delegation – Balancing the work loads towards your staff involves making sure you are delegating it to the right people. Find a person who is suited to do the work. Axiom 8: Feedback – Ask permission first or it will be viewed as unwanted or unappreciated. Develop it in a way that as a boss you are there to hear what they are truly saying and don’t force your beliefs on them. Ask them if they are willing to hear what you want to say.   You may visit this website to know more details about Steve Smith: www.growthsourcecoaching.com ***There’s a link in the website for free consultation and the book if in case you want to download it.     There are so many ways to do almost free marketing you just have to think about it or you could just go to the web site and pick up the free download.     4 Hot Marketing Strategies That Can Flood Your Business with Customers   If you have a story to tell and would like to be a guest on this podcast email my assistant Shell at Shell@contractorssecretweapon.com   and she will send you our guest sheet.       Our sponsors     Would you like your phone to ring more with qualified buyers people looking to buy now? Then let’s make that happen. Leadership is often referred to as an art and not a science. What that means that there are no specific processes or formulas to find the answer to a problem. Instead, leadership requires leaders to develop soft skills or interpersonal skills. Every leader requires a starting point in their leadership journey, much to the reason why I wrote my 9 Foundations of Leadership. In today’s episode, I’m sharing my favorite 11 books that I read in 2017.  I read more but, these are the books that ended up with tons of dog-eared pages.  Melissa also shares a bonus book she wanted me to recommend for the ladies. Learn a little about each book and why it is recommended.  At the end of the episode you will learn a process for getting the most out of these books.  Find out how to take notes you can later find easily based on author and topic.  This is a great way to make sure you revisit the key points from each book you read. The Advantage -  This book is awesome for organization. If you need to focus on organizational health, this is definitely one of those books for real estate investors that you need to add to your list. Stop struggling with managing everything and focusing on processes but not actually getting anything done. Get organized, get working, build your team, and become the Flip Pilot you know you can be. The Obstacle is The Way -  This is a book that's based on the ideas of stoicism philosophy. If you're trying to achieve change in your life, you're going to face obstacles. When you face them, face them. Embrace the obstacle to be able to overcome it so that you can grow and become a better person.  Bigger, Leaner, Stronger - This book is more for the health and fitness crowd. Why is this on the list of books for real estate investors, you might ask? Strong mental health starts with strong physical health. Now we're not saying to become a body builder, we're simply saying that you need to be healthy. What's the point in growing old as a successful real estate investor if you've got poor health? This book is awesome because it breaks everything down into the science of healthy living. Definitely a great read to get you motivated and off the couch! Essentialism -  I've already talked about this book in another podcast episode. If you haven't listened to it, the link will be in the link section of the show notes. This is a must read for real estate investors. The tips in this book will help you eliminate what you don't need to focus on so that only the essential parts of your business remain.  Lifeonaire -  We had a recent podcast episode where Steve Cook came on and talked about his book. Check it out in the link section of the show notes! This book is written as a story, so it's easier to process all of the lessons from it. I love this book because it helps you understand that the life that you want isn't always about getting the most money. As far as one of the books for real estate investors, this one is one of my favorites. This is an eye opening message about living the best life right now instead of always focusing on the future. As a Man Thinketh - This is a super short book (so it's easy to re-read). This is taken from some Biblical text and really helps you connect with yourself. A quote from the back reads: "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he". This is a great book for keeping yourself motivated. If you think you're going to fail, you will. If you think you're going to succeed, then you will too. This book is all about keeping yourself in a positive train of though to accomplish your goals. Leadership Axioms -  If you're struggling with leadership strategies then this is the book for you. In fact, Melissa has suggested this one to Danny and it really stuck. Every 3 or so pages of this book have an axiom on them so that you keep yourself going through the books. This is one of the great books for real estate investors because you can go back to it when you have a leadership problem that you need to address. Each axiom will help you accomplish your leadership goals and keep your team moving forward. How to Win Friends and Influence People -  This is a classic. If you've heard of it, read it. If you've already read it, read it again! This book will help you to build relationships that are perfect for networking your real estate investing business. Definitely a must read. How to Stop Worrying and Start Living - Often times as real estate investors, we find ourselves worrying a lot. Didn't you become a real estate investor so that you could have the freedom your old job wasn't giving you? What good is that freedom if you're always worrying? Stop that! This is one of the great books for real estate investors because it will help you to take the stress out of your life so you can actually enjoy your financial freedom. Mastery: The Keys to Success and Long-Term Fulfillment - In the beginning of this book there's a passage that tells you to focus on practicing for the sake of practicing. That's such a great lesson for real estate investors to implement in their business, but also in their lives. Everything you do you need to practice at in order to become better. Beyond that, though, you need to practice for the sake of practicing because it will make you appreciate the work that goes into mastering something.  Seneca: Letters From a Stoic - This book is included because a lot of the problems that people face these days are basically the same problems that people were facing hundreds and hundreds of years ago. Things at their core don't change that much. That's why Danny has been so in to stoicism, because that philosophy keeps everything in perspective. The letters in this book survived thousands of years that are jam packed with philosophy. It's an engaging read, which is why it's one of the books for real estate investors on this list. (Bonus) You Are a Badass - Melissa specifically wanted all of the ladies out there to read this book. This is a great book for identifying and eliminating the self sabotaging behavior that a lot of people tend to have these days. If you're keeping yourself down, definitely check out this book to give yourself a boost. You're a badass real estate investor. Go be a badass!
