Welcome back to TheCase.Report, it's our first episode of season 5! It's hard to believe that we're moving into the 5th year of TCR! All the way back in our first ever episode we had an infective case that was very topical at the time - covid - And so to kick things off for Season 5, we're looking at another highly infective case of viral haemorrhagic fever. Joining us on our case this month are our NCHDs Conor O'Gara, Leah Flanagan and Ralph Hurley O'Dwyer, who treat us to a comprehensive run through of the case. We were delighted to be joined by Dr Deirdre Morley and Dr Catherine Uhomoibhi for the second segment in the episode. They are working as co-leads on the development of the National High Level Isolation Unit (HLIU), and discuss the process of designing the HLIU as well as some Irish-led international simulation they've been leading in the Infective Diseases sphere. As always, don't forget to follow us on socials on instagram, x and facebook to keep updated with all things TCR. Coffee in hand? Right then, let's get to it!

September 9 is recognised around the world as International FASD Awareness Day – a day that highlights the importance of women being alcohol-free during pregnancy and how their partners can support them during that journey. FASD (Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder) is an issue that affects communities all over Australia so raising awareness is an important step in the education process. To get some education around FASD herself, Naomi set out to yarn with a bunch of people about FASD – what it is and why it matters. First stop was to visit Dr Mark Wenitong (yeah, that's right... her dad) - one of Australia's most respected doctors in Indigenous health. Mark lays out in simple terms what FASD means and how we can all play a role in making a difference. On top of that, Naomi seeks out advice from the likes of Simone Stacey, Deb Mailman, Emma Donovan, Leah Flanagan, Aaron Pedersen, and Dr Jacki Mein, Director of the Wuchopperen Health Service in Cairns and someone who's been working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health for decades.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The first year of new-Who continues with its first two-parter. Join Deb, Erika, Lynne, and Tansy as we delve deep (I mean DEEP) into the relationships and characterizations and implications in "Aliens of London" and "World War Three". Yes, we touch on the farting aliens, but there's so much more in this story. It's a bit of an anchor point for the arcs of several of our characters, and we tug hard on that anchor. In addition, we talk about the importance of libraries (Happy National Library Week!), the Doctor as a soldier, and someone utters the phrase "barfing emotions". It's quite a ride. What do you think of this two-parter? Did the farting aliens or the domesticity turn you off? Or did you enjoy the drama? And is your reaction any different now than the first time you saw this (assuming you have seen it before)? Let us know in the comments! ^E Also covered [links on our site]: Lynne has 13 hours of David Tennant to listen to, as they re-released his BBC audios in a boxed set! Erika is getting excited for the spin-off, Class! Tansy heard gales of laughter as her daughters discovered Catherine Tate: comedic actress! helped her daughter through the DW rite of passage that is learning about the missing episodes. Deb was cheered greatly by the lovely "firsts" comments on our last Extra! thanks Leah Flanagan for pointing her towards Galliday at Disney! Bonus link [also on our site]:Doctor Who Confidential
What do YOU focus on when trying to lose weight? Have you ever tried not thinking about losing weight to, yes, in fact - lose weight? So often we tend to be plagued by the scale or the food app or the calorie counting. What if, you focused on something else - call it a different activity that results in weight loss? For example: in graduate school, I had hours of homework a day and so much of it was heavy textbook reading. At the time, I loved to bike. So… I put two and two together and brought my textbooks in the gym and read on the stationary workout bike. Although I was focusing on reading, I was actually losing weight. Perfect combo. Now, in this week's episode, I sit down with Leah Flanagan and hear how she focuses on Relieving Anxiety IN ORDER TO lose weight. She's only 5 lbs away from hitting her BIG 100 lbs loss mark and her unique perspective on weight loss makes her only moments away from surpassing this milestone. SO great! Stay tuned, this is definitely a show you won't want to miss!
Prior to her show at The Junkyard last week Leah Flanagan caught up with Pointy and The Moose to talk about her love for Tom Waits. Head on over to www.leahflanagan.com.au to listen to her new single 'Everything'.
