Robin Millar doesn't let anything hold him back. The man is blind, and yet he became one of the most successful producers in the UK in the 80s. His biggest claim to fame is shepherding a young Sade to two world-beating albums (her first two). Working together to find her unique sound made him the go-to guy for "sophistopop" and brought him a ton of success. He did the first few Everything But the Girl albums, the Fine Young Cannibals' debut, the first Colin Hay album and even scratched his rock itch by doing the third Big Country album. Oh, and he discovered Phoebe Bridgers and Cigarettes After Sex. And he was appointed CBE. And knighted. And, again, he's blind. We knew that when The Wolf left Europe for the American midwest, there would be fewer opportunities to see live shows by the bands we love. But we made the most of it with some killer concerts including taking a disappointed 9 year old to see Journey (He's not the leads singer of Journey!?!), taking Action Jackson to his first Steve Hackett show, laughing and singing along with Colin Hay and finally seeing Wolfgang Van Halen live. But the real story is around the amazing performers we welcomed in 2024, almost doubling the number we hosted in 2023 and tripling the number of Rock N Roll Hall of Famers. We welcomed Steve Hackett (Genesis) for the 2nd time as well as his fellow Hall of Famers Guy Fletcher (Dire Straits) and the legendary Steve Howe (Yes, Asia). Colin Hay is a natural storyteller. That side of him didn't come out during his brief tenure in the chart-topping Australian band Men at Work ("Who Can It Be Now?," "Down Under," "Overkill"). But after releasing two solo albums and getting dropped by his label, Hay reinvented himself as a solo artist who commands the stage with a mere guitar and his gift for an amusing anecdote. More than thirty years later, Hay has released an additional 13 albums (the most recent is 2022's Now and the Evermore) and criss-crosses the U.S. and beyond as both a solo artist and Men at Work. A Sunday sermon by Pastor Brett Deal. The other day I was listening to a favorite song by Colin Hay, and it transported me back in time. In his song, he breathes out his aspirations during a nebulous season. Written at a time when, after several years on the international stage with Men at Work, he was himself dropped from his record label. Confused about what to do with the rest of his life, he poured his emotions into a song, singing “I'm ready for my real life to begin.” That song captures how I felt in the summer of 2003. I'd found the perfect ring for the perfect girl. All that separated us was a thousand miles. I spent the summer counting down the days until I would see her again. I was ready for my real life to begin. Literally minutes after my summer job ended, I was tearing down the highway headed East. I'd packed the night before to make quick work of the distance. There would be nothing stopping me. Not torrential rain in St. Louis or a blown tire in Illinois (more about this Sunday). The future was on the horizon, and I was ready for my real life to begin. This is very much how Epaphroditus felt. He'd been sent to care for Paul, imprisoned in Rome. Far from home, he became so sick they all thought he was going to die! God's mercy saved them from that tragedy, but as he came back to physical health, his heart remained sick. He longed for home, to be with the men, women, and children he knew by name, to be with the people God placed dearly in his heart. Serving Paul was a great gift, but he was ready for his real life to begin, back home in Philippi. But isn't it interesting, while we're waiting for our lives to begin, how much real life we find ourselves living? This is true for Epaphroditus, Timothy, and Paul (Philippians 2.19-30). It's true for us too. Taking this to heart, let's not be in such a rush we miss the names and faces of those Jesus has placed around us. Tomorrow will come, and it will be glorious, but today is before us. Real life has already begun.

New PODCAST RELEASE - INTERVIEW with Australian Singer / Songwriter (and now resident of Nashville) IMOGEN CLARK! Rob and Matt had a great fun conversation with the greatly talented Imogen Clark.   We had a ton of laughs (which is always a good thing). Besides bringing up Springsteen, Colin Hay, Sheena Easton and Sheryl Crow we talk about her big move to Nashville, the inspiration behind her newest video for THE NOISE, the time she played a mining town of only men, writing and recording with Colin Hay (Men at Work) and much much more! ******** JUST A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IMOGEN CLARK: From an early age, Imogen's life was steeped in music. From just eight years old, she was trained as an opera singer, the foundation for her roof-raising vocal power and range. By the age of twelve, she had transitioned to the guitar and piano and the start of her songwriting journey.  Raised on a cocktail of Bruce Springsteen and Violent Femmes, her musical palette expanded with influences from contemporary artists like HAIM, Maggie Rogers, and the indomitable Taylor Swift. Her father, a former punk rocker and now retired high school teacher, also played a pivotal role in shaping her musical inclinations. His influence, combined with her own experiences, gave birth to a unique and timeless sound, blending pop-rock and indie-pop.  Imogen's determination is evidenced by her achievements of the last three years, especially her two acclaimed EPs, 2020's "The Making of Me" and the AIR-nominated 2021's "Bastards". After recording “Bastards” over Zoom amidst the COVID lockdowns in Sydney, Imogen was determined to flip the script completely for her album. After writing over a hundred songs, she embarked on a musical pilgrimage, traveling to cities that have inspired her musically - London, Nashville, and Los Angeles. This journey took her to some of the world's most iconic recording spaces including Peter Frampton's Studio Phenix in Nashville, Abbey Road in London, and East West in Los Angeles, where the legendary "Pet Sounds" was recorded. The forthcoming album “The Art of Getting Through” is proudly genre-agnostic, encapsulating Imogen's range as a songwriter and recording artist. The lyrics are her most bracingly personal and vulnerable, the music more powerful and anthemic than ever. From navigating her identity to touching on the shadows of an eating disorder, each of Imogen's songs unfold like a chapter in a deeply personal diary, capturing moments, memories, and confessions from her journey.  It's no wonder collaborators from Alex Lahey to Colin Hay to Steve Poltz to members of Gang of Youths, Tom Petty's Heartbreakers, Elvis Costello's Imposters, Dawes, My Morning Jacket and more have lined up to collaborate with an artist whose dynamism, relentless creativity and striving to be the most fully evolved version of herself, both in and out of the studio, shows her as a force to be reckoned with, and one who is just getting started. ************ You can find IMOGEN at imgogenclarkmusic.com.au , Facebook and Instagram (@imogenclarkmusic) Be sure to look for her upcoming 3rd studio album "The Art of Getting Through" on May 31st, 2024!  ************ KNOW GOOD MUSIC can be found on Podbean (host site), Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Iheart Radio, Pandora and almost anywhere you listen to podcasts.     If you go to www.linktr.ee/knowgoodmusic you can find all the links to the podcast platforms we are on.    Visit our YouTube Channel where you can see video promos from some of our interviews.  Just search "know good music"." Colin Hay first gained international fame in the 1980s as the frontman of Men At Work, the band known for crafting Australian anthems such as "Who Can It Be Now?" and "Down Under." Men At Work won a GRAMMY Award for Best New Artist and sold over 30 million records worldwide. After the band's breakup in 1985, Colin launched a solo career, releasing thirteen studio albums praised for their witty, hooky pop tunes and his distinctive voice. Colin's music has been featured prominently in the GRAMMY-winning soundtrack for Garden State and the TV series Scrubs. Over his remarkable solo career, he has toured extensively both as a solo artist and with Ringo Starr & His All-Star Band. Colin has also performed on various late-night shows, including those hosted by David Letterman, Craig Ferguson, Jimmy Fallon, and Jimmy Kimmel. In addition to his music career, Colin lent his voice to Disney's The Wild and starred in the award-winning documentary Waiting For My Real Life. He also narrated Aesop's Fables with Colin Hay, 24 audiobooks written by author Tom Graves. His latest solo album, Now And The Evermore, features lush orchestration, whimsical melodies, and contributions from notable collaborators, including Ringo Starr. The impact of Colin's work has been felt across generations, with various tributes, covers and revivals contributing to his enduring musical presence. In 2021, ‘Down Under' returned to the airwaves in the form of a drum'n'bass cover by Luude, topping charts at home and in the UK. A version sung in Yolngu Matha by King Stingray accompanied the Tourism Australia campaign. The following year, 'Down Under' was recognised by APRA for its streaming success, achieving 1 billion streams the acclaimed song. In 2023, Colin received APRA's Ted Albert Award for outstanding services to Australian music.

As children of the MTV generation, The Wolf & Action Jackson grew up listening to and watching videos from Men At Work. The band from Down Under had some big hits and their first two albums, Business As Usual & Cargo, sold more than 20 million copies around the world. However, the quickly disappeared from the scene and it left us wondering where they went. In 2015, a documentary about their frontman and lead songwriter Colin Hay emerged, Waiting For My Real Life, which told the story of the rise and fall of the band but also delved into Colin's struggle with alcohol, relocation to LA and finding redemption as an acoustic storyteller. Upon seeing this documentary, The Wolf desperately wanted a chance to see this troubadour live where Colin regales his fans with stories, keeps them laughing and delivers both Men At Work classics and personal tunes from his solo catalog. The Wolf shares with Jackson Colin's stories on Paul McCartney inviting himself to dinner at Colin's house, overcoming alcoholism, moving from Scotland to Australia, losing friends & loved ones and using those moments to weave funny and heartfelt stories. Dean shares his journey to and through Recovery to this point with us with genuine humor, humility and an unmistakable wisdom that can only come from doing the work and practicing certain recovery principles on a daily basis. Dean's story is proof positive alcoholism and addiction doesn't discriminate. As we demonstrate often on this podcast, having an idyllic childhood is no guarantee against developing alcohol or substance use disorder despite the high prevalence of trauma and mental health disorders among those of us who identify as persons in Recovery. Dean's story and his book bring to light key Recovery principles that underlay the 12-Step program of Recovery that are in fact universally applicable to all of us whom are looking for a practical way to implement positive change in our lives as we progress in our individual recovery so listen up.   Learn more about Finding Myself Sober by Dean S Anderson: https://a.co/d/4AZB7xz Recovery literature (quit-lit) recommendation: The Shack by William P.
