LISD Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D. answers questions to some “Hot Topics” and discuss the launch of our Remote Learning Parenting Hub. You’ll hear from six graduating seniors, one from every LISD high school campus. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/leanderisdpodcasts/message
Learning will continue even as our buildings remain closed as Leander ISD responds to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic. In order to maintain equity and in consideration of the mental fatigue remote learning has on families, students, and teachers, second-semester grades for the 2019–20 school year will not be calculated for student grade-point average (GPA) or class rank. The Board also granted Superintendent Bruce Gearing authority to readjust policy DEA (Local) and to require all LISD staff to be available for work April 6, even though most employees will do so in a remote capacity. In doing so, the district will no longer offer premium pay, which was its practice for hourly employees that actively worked while school facilities have been closed since March 13. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/leanderisdpodcasts/message
It was 3 years ago this month that they filed a lawsuit against Leander ISD in Cedar Park, TX., for failing to provide their son a Free and Appropriate Education (A.K.A. FAPE), to address his unique educational needs. The appointed Hearing Officer (Judge) found in their favor. It was the first time a parent had won against LISD in Texas Education Agency history. LISD appealed that decision. The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled in their favor, confirming their son is eligible for Special Education. Here is the link if you are interested in reading the decision:https://law.justia.com/cases/federal/appellate-courts/ca5/18-50160/18-50160-2019-05-15.htmlSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/Empowerdyslexia)
