In this episode, I have the pleasure of sitting down with my good friend, Nick Mingione, the head baseball coach at the University of Kentucky. Nick's insights into leadership, culture, and faith are nothing short of transformative. Nick shares his unique strategy for fostering internal accountability within his team, where love and accountability go hand in hand. We explore his powerful analogy of staying "inside the house," promoting behaviors that build unity and growth. Nick also captivates us with anecdotes where players humorously call each other "on the porch," encouraging adherence to team values in a light-hearted, yet impactful way. The episode is rich with wisdom on building a pressure-free environment and addressing issues like negative self-talk and repeated mistakes. Nick's approach to coaching is both profound and practical; he emphasizes the importance of character, integrity, and continuous improvement, allowing individuals time to grow their roots deep. We also delve into the significance of leadership founded on faith, with meaningful reflections on how surrendering control can lead to positive transformations. Nick's vulnerability and openness about his own struggles, particularly during challenging seasons, are both inspiring and enlightening. Together, we discuss the essence of championship culture, consistent values, and the vital role of faith in developing strong, cohesive teams. Tune in to this episode of The Jon Gordon Podcast and be inspired by the journey, faith, and wisdom of Coach Nick Mingione. About Nick, Nick Mingione became the head coach of Kentucky Baseball in 2016, and in just eight seasons, he's transformed the program. Under his leadership, the Wildcats made their first-ever College World Series appearance and achieved multiple record-breaking seasons, including a historic 46-win campaign in 2024 that earned him SEC and National Coach of the Year honors. Mingione's first season saw Kentucky reach the Super Regionals and finish in the Top 10 nationally. His success continued with 42 players drafted into Major League Baseball, including top-20 picks like Evan White, Zack Thompson, and Ryan Waldschmidt. His recruiting prowess and player development have made Kentucky one of the nation's elite programs. Before his time at UK, Mingione was a key part of Mississippi State's coaching staff, where he helped lead the team to the 2013 College World Series and an SEC title in 2016. He's also built a reputation for developing strong student-athletes, with numerous players earning SEC academic honors and All-American distinctions. Mingione's impact extends beyond the field, as he's deeply involved in the Lexington community and committed to shaping young men into leaders, both in baseball and life. His coaching philosophy centers around the principles of "Student. Person. Player." Away from baseball, Mingione is active in mission work, including building homes and running baseball clinics in the Bahamas. He and his wife, Christen, have one son, Reeves. The College Baseball Experience (@TCEonSGPN) on the Sports Gambling Podcast Network covers just the tip of the iceberg in the NCAA Baseball Transfer Portal. Noah Bieniek (@NoahB77_) offers his insight, analysis, and stats on some of the most notable names in the portal. Who could become the next superstar in collegiate baseball as they transfer up in competition? Find out on this episode! Blake Cyr is probably the biggest star that has entered the Transfer Portal over the first two days. Miami Florida's sophomore outfielder is off and looking for greener and better pastures. Cyr is a career .298 hitter, with a 1.011 OPS, 24 Homers, 84 RBI, 72 RBI, .443 wOBA, 133 wRC+ in two seasons. Jason Torres is following Cyr out of Coral Gables. Gavin Kash also leads a quartet of players making an exodus out of Lubbock, Texas Tech. Kash is a career .314 hitter, w/ a 1.012 OPS, 41 homers over two seasons, and he had 51 RBI and 49 runs scored in 2024, with a .407 wOBA, 115 wRC+, and had a WAR of 3.14. He is from Sour Lake, Texas, could TCU be a player here, or maybe even LSU? Joseph Dzierwa is also exiting Michigan State's baseball program. I believe Dzierwa is just your normal case of a Northern kid breaking out and he's going to find an SEC school that will give him a good platform during his draft year. Landon Beidelschies and Christian Coppola join Dzierwa as Big Ten arms leaving their programs looking for a bigger spotlight. For the second straight season, the Florida State softball year ended at the hands of the Oklahoma Sooners -- this time in the Super Regionals. The 2-0 sweep was a mixed bag for the short-staffed Seminoles as they were quickly run-ruled in Game 1 but were able to keep Game 2 tight with some mixing and matching in the circle. On this week's episode of the Seminole Softball Wrap podcast, Gwyn Rhodes and Brian Pellerin discuss each game, the challenges Florida State faced as well as the return of Makenna Reid from the stress fracture in her back that kept her out for more than a month. Plus, they look at the shape of the roster heading into the offseason, what they're losing in this senior class and what they need to add to return to title contention in 2025. Note: After we recorded the podcast, news broke that Madi Balk entered the transfer portal. This news will be discussed on the next episode. Learn more about your ad choices. The College Baseball Experience (@TCEonSGPN) of the Sports Gambling Podcast Network is dipping their toes into College Softball! Noah Bieniek (@NoahB77_) was joined by SGPN's Adam Pelletier (@adampelletier) and together they gave out their NCAA Softball Tournament bracket picks for Regionals and Super Regionals, plus their Women's College World Series picks for Oklahoma City. Oklahoma is gunning for their 4th straight National Championship. Head Coach Patty Gasso once again has assembled an outstanding squad. However, the Sooners were dealt a very tough draw. Boston University is 52-4 and heading to the Norman Regional as a 3-seed. Also, Oregon is Norman bound, and some of their coaching staff previously worked at Oklahoma under Gasso. Texas was awarded with the No. 1 overall seed. In result, the Austin Regional looks pretty light on paper. No. 3 overall Tennessee hosts one of the most intriguing mid-majors in their regional this weekend. Miami Ohio has by far the most powerful offense this season. Can the Red Hawks make some noise in the Knoxville Regional? Bieniek and Pelletier discuss other Oklahoma City candidates. Additionally, which of the regional hosts are vulnerable to fall in the opening round? Then, teams have the chance to win in the Super Regionals? Do you disagree with some of Bieniek's or Pelletier's picks? Join "The College Experience" bracket group on D1Softball. The winner of the pool will receive a $50 SGPN Gift card.
