The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs have officially secured a UIL playoff berth, clinching fourth place in District 26-3A as they headed into their final District game Feb. 17 against District leader Goliad. The Mustangs battled through a competitive District schedule this season, showing steady improvement and resilience along the way. After facing early challenges in District play, Nixon-Smiley responded with key wins down the stretch to lock up a postseason spot. Balanced scoring, improved defensive effort, and strong team chemistry helped the Mustangs remain competitive throughout the season and position themselves for playoff basketball. The University Interscholastic League (UIL) unveiled its biennial district realignment Feb. 2, impacting every school district in the state. The UIL does this on a regular two-year cycle to reclassify and realign schools based on their population to try and ensure a more level metaphorical playing field in sports and extracurriculars. For example, if a school's population grows, they are reclassified at a higher level, and vice versa if populations shrink. What was unveiled in early February impacts schools in sports such as football, basketball, and volleyball. Other sports — i.e., soccer, baseball, softball, etc. — will have their districts...Article Link

Send us a textThe map just changed, and with it the path to December. UIL realignment day landed with a thud across Central Texas, and we break down what the new districts mean for coaches, players, and fans who live for Friday nights. From how October snapshot enrollments set the board to why Austin's explosive growth now supports three full 6A districts, we walk through the logic, the surprises, and the ripple effects that will define the next two seasons. We're joined by Anderson head coach and AD Donald Hatcher, whose program drew a heavyweight lane with Smithson Valley and Champion. Coach Hatcher explains what it takes to face a back-to-back 5A Division I state champion, how Anderson leans into identity after consecutive playoff runs, and why “to be the best, you have to beat the best” isn't just a slogan. We also talk rivalry stakes as McCallum vs Anderson becomes a district decider, plus the calendar puzzle of stadium dates, non-district slots, and the hidden cost of travel weeks.Beyond the headlines, we zoom out to the strategy that wins realigned seasons: managing depth across gauntlet schedules, owning special teams and field position, and preparing for tie-breakers in districts where five or six playoff-caliber teams chase four tickets. Liberty Hill's expanded footprint and long hauls to New Braunfels and San Antonio highlight how mileage affects recovery, practice plans, and budgets. Whether your team moved up a class or dodged a buzzsaw, the margin for error just narrowed—and that's where smart programs find an edge.If you love Texas high school football, hit follow, subscribe on YouTube, and share this breakdown with your district rivals.
The Federal Aviation Administration on Monday issued a ground delay for flights departing to DFW International Airport due to staffing issues. Flights bound for DFW had an average delay of 18 minutes. A spokesman for DFW Airport said, “The FAA implements air traffic management programs based on its capacity for safe operations. As always, we encourage travelers to check their flight status with their airline.” In other news, kids today already use or have access to artificial intelligence tools. That's according to Pat Yongpradit, chief academic officer for Code.org, a nonprofit promoting computer science education. What matters, he says, is teaching children how to use AI properly and he is worried schools are falling behind in this regard; the economic impact of automobile and personal loans is larger in Texas than any other state, according to new data; nd the University Interscholastic League isn't ready to add any new sports, and Monday it signaled that it is content for now with the 14 sports that it sanctions. During the UIL's legislative council meeting, the state's governing body for public school athletics denied, rejected or took no action on proposals to add pickleball, boys volleyball, lacrosse and ice hockey as UIL-sanctioned sports.

“One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.” —Proverbs 11:24Scripture calls us to be both wise savers and generous givers—but holding those two together can feel like a tension. How do we avoid fear on one side and foolishness on the other? Dr. Shane Enete joins us today to show how these two principles actually go hand in hand.Dr. Shane Enete is an Associate Professor of Finance at Biola University and founded the Biola Center for Financial Planning. He is also the author of the book Whole Heart Finances: A Jesus-Centered Guide to Managing Your Money with Joy.Living in the TensionJohn Wesley famously wrote, “Earn all you can, save all you can, give all you can.” It sounds simple enough, but when you sit down with a budget, the statement can feel more like a paradox than a plan. After all, how can you both save as much as you can and give as much as you can? At some point, choices must be made.Rather than resolving the paradox with rigid rules, we encourage believers to embrace the complexity as part of the Christian life.In the absence of clarity, many of us make rules. One common example is the “80/10/10 rule”—give 10%, save 10%, and live on the remaining 80%. While this framework may be helpful, we must also be cautious that this can risk reducing Christian stewardship to legalism. The Christian life is a paradox. Christ Himself is a paradox—fully God and fully man. When we encounter a paradox, we shouldn't flatten it into a rule. Instead, we're invited into a relationship with God and to walk with Him in the tension.Stewardship as ArtSo how do we approach the paradox of saving and giving without rigid formulas? We should think of stewardship more as an art rather than a science. Just as Jesus used metaphors—such as sheep, seeds, trees, and vines—to describe the mysteries of the Kingdom, we too can use metaphors to navigate the complexity of money.Art allows us to co-create with God, and it moves us from rule-keeping to relationship, from legalism to a life that draws us closer to Him and to one another. One compelling metaphor is water. Water is life-giving when it flows, but when it stagnates, it becomes toxic. In the same way, money is meant to flow—received from God and passed on to bless others.Of course, saving is still essential—as it's like a reservoir that ensures water can flow steadily—but the point is not the reservoir itself. It's the flow that revitalizes both the giver and those who receive. The call to “save all you can, give all you can” is not a puzzle to be solved but a paradox to be lived. By resisting the urge to reduce it to rigid formulas and instead embracing stewardship as a creative act with God, we discover a more life-giving way to approach money. The flow is what matters. That's what brings life. You can read Dr. Enete's full article—and gain access to other exclusive resources—by becoming a FaithFi Partner. “Should a $14-an-hour referee really have the power to eject a parent without warning—and what happens when they do?”In this gripping and hilariously unfiltered episode of The Ben and Skin Show, hosts Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray dive headfirst into a new Texas law that's sparking heated debates across the state. Governor Greg Abbott just signed a bill allowing referees and officials at UIL events to eject unruly spectators without a warning—and the crew has thoughts. The conversation quickly spirals into a deeper discussion about authority, human behavior, and the dangers of emboldened egos—whether it's a ref, a parent, or a keyboard warrior on the Nextdoor app.
