Buck, who worked for former House Speakers Paul Ryan and John Boehner, explains the risks his party faces if it lets health insurance subsidies expire and why some conservatives now want to extend them. Then Politically Georgia's Candidate Forum series continues with former state senator Jason Esteves, a Democratic candidate for governor, who talks about affordability, Medicaid expansion, and why he believes Georgia Democrats must offer voters something to vote for — not just against. Podcast 308 – Why Light Up Dunwoody Moved to the Donaldson-Bannister Farm – Jimmy Economos and Tim Brown Light Up Dunwoody is leaving the Burger King parking lot behind and heading to the Donaldson-Bannister Farm. It's a serious vibe upgrade. Jimmy Economos of EEP Events and DHA President Tim Brown share how the event outgrew the Village and found a new home with more space for reindeer, a stage for dancers, and a 26-foot Christmas tree and menorah right by Chamblee-Dunwoody Road. Expect over 80 performers, crafts from Spruill Center to decorate the tree, free Santa pics (with the Santa David), and live music from the Dunwoody High School Marching Band. The band will also be raising money for the Bring It Home campaign to finally give DHS a true home stadium. We also recap the 2025 Candidate Forum, another DHA event. Thanks to EEP Events stepping in with pro-level sound, lights, and live-streaming at Stage Door Theatre, the night went off without a hitch. It gave neighbors a chance to hear directly from candidates and set the bar high for an old tradition with a new digital spin. With DHA, Rough Draft, Stage Door, and EEP teaming up, the forum is poised to become another can't-miss event on the local calendar. He also covers a City Council candidate forum in Knoxville's 1st District, funding challenges for the region's public broadcasters, Congressman Tim Burchett's encounter with a horse's hoof, nuclear education for young students and more. Plus, a look ahead to the return of Knox County Schools and the start of early voting is this week. This is a FREE service of Compassknox.com, share it wildly.
This is not a regular episode of The Olympia Standard, this is a bonus episode! We're sharing the audio from yesterday's Olympia School Board candidate forum from OSD4All. We will be back in our feed in a few days with a more traditional ballot rundown episode, also featuring some folks from OSD4All. You can watch the YouTube video of the forum here. Congratulations! You're about to listen to the latest edition of Charlottesville Community Engagement! All you have to do is hit the play button and you'll be able to hear several stories about what's happening in local and regional government. Many of the stories that go out in this newsletter are produced in a manner that allows people to listen, using the voices of people who are in the stories! This is not a new concept, but this is a necessary paragraph to get me to the point where I say I'm Sean Tubbs, and this is what I seem to do.Programming note: This should have gone out on Friday afternoon but there were complications and I decided to produce this on Sunday. The Week Ahead will likely come out on Monday and back to regular programming on Tuesday. In this edition:* Three candidates for two Democratic nominations for City Council address Greenbrier neighborhood (read the story)* Charlottesville City Manager Sam Sanders provides updates on how FY24 surplus might be spent ahead of June 2 vote (read the story)* Charlottesville Board of Architectural Review denies request to demolish 1301 Wertland Street (learn more)* Charlottesville's Board of Zoning Appeals upholds an administrative modification for a 24-unit development on Barracks Road (C-Ville Weekly version)First shout-out: Rivanna River Otter MonitoringHave you seen a river otter lately? The Rivanna Conservation Alliance wants to know! The group is conducting a study of the presence of Lontra canadensis. The creatures have been spotted throughout the Rivanna River watershed—in rivers, streams, and even backyard ponds! While they're best known for their playful antics, river otters are also important indicators of stream health. They depend on clean water, healthy riparian buffers, and abundant prey sources (including fish, amphibians, and benthic macroinvertebrates) for survival. As such, their presence or absence within our waterways can provide valuable insights into the overall health of our rivers and streams. To learn more, the Rivanna Conservation Alliance has launched the Rivanna River Otter Monitoring Project to gather valuable data on river otter populations while encouraging community members to get outside and explore our local waterways. This project aims not only to inspire public appreciation for river otters, but also foster a deeper community connection to our rivers and streams and the diverse wildlife populations they support. To learn more and consider a donation, please visit the Rivanna Conservation Alliance.Second-shout out: Cville VillageCan you drive a neighbor to a doctor's appointment? Hello Listen Localers! On today's show we catch up with Senate District Seat 6 Candidate Steve Cotariu. Steve talks about his background, the main platform he's running on, and what the deciding factor was for him to throw his name in the ring of a crowded Republican-side of this election. Also, while you may not know Steve's real name, you may have heard of his alter-ego, Hudson the Magician. He dives into a little about why he got into Magic, after a prolific career in the Army and the big-business sector. After Steve heads out the crew chats about the Local BLA Happenings, including the Candidate Forum that happened Tuesday night. While it was after this show was recorded, the Listen Local team felt they needed to add their thoughts on the "craziness" that went down at that event. Including a belligerent fella who was shuffling around the Forum in Snuggie yelling profanities. Yes, a Snuggie... Tune in to hear all about it. And as always...
