When speakers hiss in unplugged headphones and strange and frightening sounds echo through the pod... Whenever podcast hosts giggle where dead air is filled with cheer - that is the time when we celebrate! Yes, one of the greatest attractions of all time - The Haunted Mansion - turns 50 on the day this episode launches! To celebrate, we are going over our list of the top 50 reasons to love the Haunted Mansion. In this episode, we each contributed 10 items on our own bringing our total to 40 items and then we had some very special guests "from all over the world" submit some of their favorite reasons they love the mansion to round out the top 50! Follow along as we start at the beginning of the attraction and make our way to the end and point out a few of our favorite things! A very special thanks to Walt Disney Imagineer Jeff Moskowitz, Disney Studios producers David Daniels and Sean Madden, Disney Voice Artist Mark Silverman, blink-182's Mark Hoppus, David and Suzi's son Wesley, Rio Brown, and Cody Meacham for their valuable contributions to our comprehensive list! This may not be the longest episode we've done this season, but this is among the kinds of topics from which this blog and podcast were started! Join us this week as we talk about the traditions and rituals we have when going to the parks! There's plenty of Pirates of the Caribbean talk as well as other idiosyncrasies we have while visiting the parks! For example, did you know there's a "right" way and a "wrong" way to do Disneyland?!* *there isn't Listen in horror and amazement as you can almost hear Suzi and Inthia staring worriedly at David and Robert while they go on and on about the weird rituals they have while at the parks. This was a wildly fun and unhinged episode to record and we hope you enjoy it! Do you or anyone you know have these kinds of traditions or rituals while at the parks? Are we alone in thinking there's a "right" way to do Disneyland? Let us know in the comments below! Listener beware! You're in for a scare! Or at least a semi-heartbreaking trip down Imagineering's memory lane which includes some of the best attractions designed that never came to fruition! In this first part of what may turn into a multi-part series, we discuss WESTCOT CENTER at Disneyland Resort, Beastly Kingdom at Animal Kingdom, Disneyland's Enchanted Snow Palace, and Magic Kingdom's Western River Expedition! The greatest take-away from this episode is probably that Marc Davis is not only one of the most prolific Disney Cast Members to have ever been, but also the one that got the shaft the most in terms of amazing attraction designs that were shelved. At least in this episode, he really gets the Imagineering version of the short straw! As you listen along, check out these highlights from our recaps! Here's a ton of photos of the plan for WESTCOT Center thanks to Yesterland.com: Beastly Kingdom has some GREAT video content which can be seen here: While you're here, be sure to give Beastly The Unicorn a follow! Next stop is the Enchanted Snow Palace! Check out this amazing Marc Davis art courtesy of D23! And finally, thanks for Passport2Dreams, we are able to take a peek at some of the great work Marc Davis did for Western River Expedition along with Robert's personal photos from D23 when they had the model on display! In doing the research for this episode, we discovered a bevy of other attractions that never were! Is this a topic you'd like to hear us revisit? Which of these are you most disappointed about never having come to fruition? Let us know in the comments below! "Toontown, Toontown - goin' to Mickey's Toontown, Toontown..." Yes, Toontown! The fun and fancy free land just beyond the berm north of Fantasyland and the happiest cruise that ever sailed, Toontown opened in 1993 and has been entertaining families and children of all ages for over 26 years! Join us as we take an auditory step into the history of this once-hidden gem* and explore our favorite pals' homes, an attraction or two, and elements that have since gone to Yesterland! For fun, here's some of the video content we discovered along the way: Here's one of the original TV commercials for Toontown at Disneyland: Here's that amazing Toontown theme song from the Toontown Kids TV show: Here's some of the episode of Full House when the Tanner family visited Walt Disney World and found Michelle in Mickey's Birthdayland (which went on to become Mickey's Toontown Fair!): Someone then took the footage from the Full House WDW episode and cut together a show open. It's REALLY well done! Finally, check out one of the many bizarre commercials for Disney's Toontown: The Game: If it's Toontown related, we've got the info right here so why don't you stay awhile and listen in on some Toontown history! What's your favorite memory of Toontown? Do you have a favorite attraction? Let us know in the comments below! Guete Daag! This week, we go in-depth on the history of the Matterhorn since this year it's celebrating 60 years at Disneyland! Walt's affinity for Swiss culture came to a head while filming THIRD MAN ON THE MOUNTAIN (1959) in Switzerland. He sent a postcard home with a photo of the Matterhorn on one side, and a simple direction on the other: "Build this!" Follow along with us as we recount details of the attraction both big and small! Check out some of these photos and a REALLY fun video I found of the Matterhorn's basketball "court!" A detailed rendering which includes the basketball hoop! Cast members having a ball! How about a little one-on-one?? Here's Mickey climbing during the 50th celebration: And here's the classic Ricola commercial! Here's the most amazing Skyway Bucket ride-thru video I have ever seen! And finally, get a load of these Minecraft videos. Some are VERY impressive! Do you have a favorite memory of the Matterhorn? Which side do you prefer? Let us know in the comments below! Queues! The places you wait before experiencing an attraction! These can be tedious or highly enjoyable! Walt Disney learned early that entertaining the guest in all instances was of the utmost importance if he wanted to have his park stand out from other amusement parks. In this episode, we reveal each of our top 5 queues as well as cover some history of the ideas behind themed queues and where exactly do queues end and where does the attraction begin? We then dig a little into queues that have opportunities to improve. Here's a great queue feature from the Tiki Room! I can't believe there isn't a source video available for this one! And speaking of the Tiki Room, when Maynard is working, guests are surely in for a treat! Here's the amazing Splash Mountain Rap Inthia discusses on the show! Walt was inspired to theme his queues when he visited the Calico Mine Ride at Knotts. Check that out here! And for good measure, here's the amazing queue for Escape from Gringotts at Universal Orlando! Also, we did the research! The Indiana Jones Adventure queue looks to go beneath the train and berm if one looks at Google Maps Finally, Joe Rohde's Twitter is always an amazing read so be sure to check that out, too! Walt Disney once said that there is a terrific power to music and that could not be more true when it comes to the way music is used at Disney parks throughout the world. This week, we are counting down our favorite music cues found at the Parks. In a previous episode, we discussed our favorite Disney Park songs, but this time, we are gathering up our favorite "word-less" music cues! Whether our choices are musical scores found inside of attractions or background music played softly in a land's background, each cue is special to us in our own way. So we invite you, (if you dare), to reminisce with us as we discuss and countdown our Top 5 Music Cues found at Disney Parks! What are you favorite music cues found at the parks? This week, as a nod to President's Day, we deep-dive into the history of Walt Disney's affinity for the highest office in the land - the president of the United States - and his desire to memorialize, in his parks, the men that have held that office for all the world to see! Join us, won't you, as we journey through the legacy of presidential visits to the parks before, during, and after their stints as president! We'll then cover the history of some of the most technologically advanced attractions dedicated to the office and its legacy - Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, The Hall of Presidents, and The American Adventure! Watch along as President Ronald Reagan visits EPCOT for his 1985 inauguration speech here: Marvel at this speech President Barack Obama gave at Walt Disney World in 2012 here: Have you experienced these presidential attractions at either Disneyland or Walt Disney World? This week's episode is a bit of a new idea. We usually talk about things we know, love, and have done dozens, if not hundreds or thousands, of times. This week we come clean on the things we have never done in the parks! Have you experienced every attraction at your favorite Disney Park? What about those attractions you never got around to and have now made their way to Yesterland? Well those are exactly the kinds of things we discuss this week! Here's a bonus photo-gallery of the inside of Stage 12's shuttered Hollywood & Dine building during the 2010 Food & Wine festival when it was converted to the Festival Showplace's "The Art of Flavor." I wish they'd bring back this aspect of the Food & Wine festival. We also go on to discuss this bizarre music video from the 1980s: Be sure to watch the Mario Andretti Rocket Rods video here: And finally, the blog I had found a couple years ago with photos of Chip & Dale's Acorn Crawl seems to have vanished BUT I did find this "Day at Disneyland" video with the best footage I have ever seen of this shuttered attraction: Which of the attractions listed on this week's episode were most surprising to you? Which attractions that we have mentioned on past episodes have you yet to experience? Let us know in the comments below! Happy new year from all of us here at Remain Seated, Please! As the year starts fresh, we thought we'd not only look ahead to what 2019 holds for Disney Parks, but back at some of our favorite attractions which celebrate some landmark anniversaries this year! A slight correction to what David mentioned on the podcast: Disneyland hosted a 60-hour event for the opening of Star Tours! Thanks to the blog Sincerely Michaelyn for clarifying that for this little fact check! Another thanks to Passport2Dreams for doing some amazing research into the history of music in Tomorrowland. Definitely worth a read and we used some of his music compilation of the original loop in the background of this episode. Some other show notes to point out are the newly released Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge video Disney Parks put out over the holiday that clarifies some of the info we talk about regarding the new land: Also, those Lion King ears can be seen here: And finally, the photo of the new parking structure addition information that David read aloud: Which of the attractions celebrating a big anniversary this year is your favorite? Disneyland. What did you just think of just now? Was it a voice? Was it a character in an attraction? This idea of "our favorite characters at Disney Parks" is what we deep-dive into this week on Remain Seated, Please!
