News: This weekend at South by Southwest, Disney had a panel called “The Future of World-Building at Disney” which gave us a ton of information about upcoming theme park attractions. One of these was the updated experience coming next year to Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run. The new adventure will feature the Mandalorian and Grogu, better known as “the child” from the hit Disney+ series. This new experience will take guests to new locations for the attraction, like Cloud City, Tatooine, and the Death Star wreckage. The update will coincide with the premiere of “The Mandalorian and Grogu” movie on May 22, 2026. – https://disneyparksblog.com/disney-experiences/sxsw-2025-new-missions-smugglers-run-mandalorian/ https://www.micechat.com/410722-disney-parks-announcements-from-swsx-avengers-star-wars-a-tomorrowland-tease/ Also at South by Southwest, Disney gave new details on the Avengers Campus updates at Disneyland. Walt Disney World. Early Monorail History Monorails, meaning single track railways, date back to 1820 with Ivan Elmanov's prototype in Russia. Henry Robinson Palmer, an English civil engineer, patented the first monorail in 1821, featuring a single rail supported above ground. General Roy Stone designed the first steam-driven monorail, showcased at the 1876 Centennial International Exhibition. ALWEG Monorail The ALWEG Monorail, designed by Dr. Axel Lennart Wenner-Gren, emerged in 1952, with improvements in 1957 that set the standard for modern monorails. Disney Monorails Walt Disney aimed for a futuristic transport system at Disneyland, leading to the creation of the Viewliner Train in 1957, which was later replaced by the ALWEG Monorail after Walt's visit to Germany. The Disneyland Monorail opened on June 14, 1959, featuring innovative designs and was the first to run adjacent to a major highway. Disneyland Mark I to III The Disneyland monorails evolved from Mark I in 1959 to Mark III in 1969, improving in size, capacity, and design. Walt Disney World Monorail The WDW monorail was a significant part of Walt's vision for showcasing the future. The Mark IV monorails, inspired by Learjet designs, were introduced in 1971, featuring unique support structures and smooth rides due to precise manufacturing. Mark IV to VI Mark IV monorails had bench seats, limited standing room, and basic AC. They were replaced by Mark VI in 1989, which featured better air conditioning, automatic doors, increased capacity, and higher speeds. EPCOT Expansion and Disneyland Mark V The WDW monorail system expanded to EPCOT in the late 1970s, with on-site precasting for new track beams. http://www.attractionchecklist.com -    Attraction audio recorded on . TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we head to Tomorrowland at Disneyland to take a round trip ride on The Monorail! The Disneyland website describes this attraction saying: Ride the historic, high-speed zero-emission transportation system that rockets along a single rail through the Disneyland Resort.  There are no age or height requirements for this attraction. Before we ride, here are five fast facts about Disneyland's Monorail. 1. The Disneyland Monorail opened on June 14, 1959.  When it opened it was called the Disneyland Alweg Monorail System.  Alweg being the German company that helped Walt Disney and Bob Gurr build the attraction. 2. The Disneyland Monorail fleet is currently made up of the Red, Blue and Orange Mark VII trains.  The recording for this episode was made on Monorail Blue.   3.  The Monorail system uses a 600-volt DC power source and as such, it emits no direct exhaust or pollutants into the atmosphere. 4. Each Monorail train can accommodate approximately 120 guests. 5. There is approximately 2.5 miles or 4 kilometers of Monorail track at Disneyland. Let's hop aboard Monorail Blue for a round trip ride to Downtown Disney and back.  John B. deHaas is joining me again today and after we ride, we'll give you our thoughts on this attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphone put them on now as we ride The Monorail at Disneyland!
