This week, we conclude Jarvis's two-part interview with Russ Tippins and Cindy Maynard of Brooklyn-based classic hard rock revelations Tanith. The conversation continues to flow easily, with topics ranging from England versus U.S. scene differences and similarities, the recording of the "Citadel" single as the first time the four members of Tanith played together, the affinity of underground metalheads for classic rock stylings, the challenges of starting a band and following your passion, the pros and cons of tour bus life versus van life, and the ongoing writing sessions for Tanith's third album. It's an enlightening and entertaining chat that covers a lot of ground effortlessly. Listen at nightdemon.net/podcast or anywhere you listen to podcasts! Follow us on Instagram Like us on Facebook
Bruce Maynard isn't farming like those around him. His fields at Willydah, west of Dubbo in NSW, look different, greener, wilder, a little more chaotic. He's a wheat and sheep farmer like many in the region, but he's just as interested in lizards, migratory birds and native legumes as grain yield. Where the system pushes for simplicity, he's valuing diversity and soil health, and looking for ways that agriculture can be both profitable and sustainable. This week, we bring you the first installment of Jarvis' interview with Russ Tippins (guitars/vocals) and Cindy Maynard (bass/vocals) from Metal Blade recording artists Tanith. Both musicians discuss their formative years, including Cindy's travails trying to learn guitar as a lefty and Russ's experiences in England starting a band (Satan) with his schoolmates. They talk about the creative process and the tendency of "new" songs - especially those recorded after a band's first album - to evolve and morph after they are performed live many times. You will also hear how Russ and Cindy decided to form Tanith after playing cover songs and realizing how well their voices fit together. The interview covers a lot of ground, with fascinating stories and an abundance of laughter. Listen at nightdemon.net/podcast or anywhere you listen to podcasts! Any chance a few of the forwards might get on board the Moose caboose? Time to Restump Podcast the emotional roller-coaster Friday night ride, resulting in a loss to the powerful premiership favourite Pies. Collingwood are deservedly premiership favourites so there is some level of merit in Freo's Friday night performance. However, we just can't do honourable losses any more. While the 14-point margin suggests a closely fought contest, the reality is Freo should have handed out a six-goal belting. How are we so talented in finding unique ways of avoiding victory! What are we playing dodgeball with winning? I mean it is almost impossible to lose a game of football when you clock up near on 30 more inside 50s than your opponents. You hate to think it but… only our beloved Dockers could manage that. The issues aren't exclusive to one area or positional group pf players but, while the forwards didn't exactly help themselves, the delivery to them was atrocious. We strangely went in with a host of talls and it seemingly inspired the mids to sit the ball on their heads! If I didn't know any better, I'd have thought we subbed Blake Acres back in for a game. It literally got to a point where you thought Uber could have delivered the ball more efficiently!I mean we won the centre clearances 21 to 7 which is an absolute smashing! We tripled their centre clearances; we doubled their inside 50s and we yet somehow find just one more scoring shot and lose by a couple of goals. Don't tell me that wouldn't stump the Myth Busters crew!Unable to get the balance right between fast and painfully frustratingly slow play was never going to end well and, again, while the forwards did little to help themselves out, often all going up for the same ball, imagine trying to lead when you don't know what the mids and ball carriers are going to do. In fact, I don't even know if the mids and ball carriers new what they were going to do.It shouldn't have to be applauded but it was comforting to see that, while not at levels we saw against the Crows, the energy and intent was there. However, the turnovers wiped us out and the inability at times to hit simple kicks and handballs when under little to no pressure, continued to destroy us. Some have suggested the performance was subpar given the Pies rested Pendlebury, De‘Goey, Maynard and Mihocek. But let's not forget Jamie Elliot, Steele Sidebottom, Jack Crisp, Will Hoskin-Elliot and Jeremy Howe were all there. Add Dan Houston, Tim Membrey and Darcy Moore and they pretty much had eight 200 gamers. We're not throwing the towel in because we're only a game and % off the final eight pace. But at the moment, in our current form or lack thereof, a game and % feels like we're a fair way back. AFL logic suggests JL needs a miracle from here to keep his gig going into 2026, but does laying the entirety of the blame on him give the players a free pass? Could a few do with an incentivizing stint back at Peel? Couldn't hurt to send an actual message. We've prattled on here long enough and we're getting nowhere! If you're still a little baffled about Friday night's performance, you're not on your Pat Malone. So, in your Freo fog and your cloud of confusion, bang on your tumultuous togs and join us in the purple pod pool of perplexity. Together we'll all battle through the bewilderment in search of some balance.Send us a textSupport the show

This is Episode 66 of the Consortium Podcast, an academic audio blog of Kepler Education. In this episode, Dr. Scott Postma delivers a keynote address titled, "Unstupiding Ourselves: The Truth About the High Calling of Classical Christian Education." His talk takes up a case made in a 2022 article by social psychologist, Jonathan Haidt, who argued that a particular change in the way social media works made the past 10 years of American life uniquely stupid. Drawing from the biblical story of the Tower of Babel, Haidt accurately describes a nation that is suddenly disoriented and unable to speak the same language or recognize the same truth. Dr. Postma argues classical Christian education is capable of unstupiding society in the generations to come by restoring a sensus communis and cultivating rational public discourse. This talk was given at the 2024 Consortium conference in Maynard, MA on July 12-13, 2024. Kepler's Consortiums provide resources and regional connections for Christian families, teachers, and educational organizations to expand the reach of classical education and foster human flourishing for generations to come. SummaryIn this episode, Daniel Jester is joined by studio operations and photography manager Brent Maynard, who shares stories and insights from his unique experience managing photo studios for a major pet brand. Brent dives into the complexities of working with animal talent, from cats and dogs to guinea pigs, birds, and even cockroaches, and explains the specialized studio workflows required to keep animals, handlers, and crew safe and productive. He and Daniel talk about their shared love of optimizing studio layouts, reflect on the importance of removing obstacles for creative teams, and explore how the presence of animal talent transforms everything from set design to crew behavior. It's a fascinating look at the intersection of operational excellence and animal chaos, with a few screaming guinea pigs along the way.Key TakeawaysAnimal talent adds layers of complexity to studio operations, requiring specialized workflows to ensure safety and smooth production.Studio layout changes can significantly improve efficiency, even without new investments. Small shifts in shelving and table placement led to measurable productivity gains in Brent's previous roles.Brent's approach emphasizes reducing physical strain and mental load on creative teams, which often results in better output and less burnout.Studios working with animals must prioritize safety above all else, including airlock-style door systems, species separation, and cautious scheduling.Pet behavior affects production. Even subtle stress signals can compromise a shoot, which is why the pet team plays a critical role in monitoring and interpreting animal body language.Noise and tension on set can disrupt animal performances, so maintaining a calm and low-stress environment is essential for success. The pet team serves as both handler and advocate, ensuring that animals are safe, comfortable, and not being pushed beyond their limits.Animals with professional experience are more predictable, but many shoots also involve non-working pets, which require more patience and flexibility.Unusual animal talent like birds, guinea pigs, and even cockroaches come with highly specific needs. Guinea pigs may scream, birds may curse, and fish are generally not worth the risk due to their fragility.Brent is passionate about studio operations and finding thoughtful, efficient solutions. His experience with complex sets and talent makes him a valuable resource for any production team.CreditsHosted by: Daniel Jester - danieltjester.com
This episode is a little bit different: it's with someone whose name I doubt you'll know, but it's a story which, as soon as I heard, I knew I wanted to share with you all on Great Company.Riordan Maynard was a high flying business man until one day it all came crashing down - he doesn't shy away from the crimes he committed - but they resulted in him serving almost seven years in a maximum high security prison in the states for tax fraud. Promised a low-security camp to serve his sentence, instead he was sent to a maximum security prison, he came into contact with real violence and aggression.Riordan doesn't hold back about the realities of life in prison - how it almost broke him, spiralling mentally, and riddled with guilt for leaving his family without provision. But that time away also taught him mental resilience and he has since come out a different man. This is a raw, powerful conversation about accountability, redemption and the strength of the human mind to shift, even when in the darkest of places. You can also follow us on Instagram and Tiktok @greatcompanypodcast and if you've got thoughts, questions and comments, you can email us at greatcompany@jampotproductions.co.ukWhat to expect in this episode:Writing letters from prisonBeating boredom and making the most of each dayHow I became a businessmanBreaking ground in the mobile phone gameHow I ended up behind barsWhen the business started to fall apartThe morning of the arrestThe charges brought against meFirst impressions of prison lifeHow I felt being found guiltyFighting the temptation to go on the runWhy prison was actually good for meHow brutal those first few months inside wereBeing forced into a gang while in prisonWitnessing a prison murderMy first night behind barsThe impact it had on my familyThe moment I realised I could change my mindsetThe Final Eight Questions--THE CREDITSExec Producer: Jemima RathboneAssistant Producer: Gurlina HeerVideo: Jake Ji & Ryley KirbySocial Media: Laura CoughlanGreat Company is an original podcast from JamPot Hosted on Acast. In this episode of “In Stride,” Sinead is joined by horsemanship trainers Tik Maynard and Nick Rivera. Tik Maynard, the 2024 and 2025 Road to the Horse Champion, is partnered with fellow horsemanship trainer and Pen Wrangler Nick Rivera. Tik has been both Long-Listed and Short-Listed for the Canadian National Three-Day Event Team, won the Freestyle at the Thoroughbred Makeover in 2015 and 2018, and is the author of In The Middle Are The Horsemen. He teaches clinics nationwide and runs a training business at Copperline Farm with his wife, Sinead Halpin Maynard. In this episode, Tik and Nick discuss topics related to natural horsemanship and The Road to the Horse, including: • What the Road to the Horse competition is and the important role a Pen Wrangler plays in the event. • How Tik and Nick prepared for the competition by prioritizing the process over the outcome. • The unexpected lessons they discovered along the way. • How natural horsemanship techniques can benefit sport horses by making them happier and better understood. Join Tik, Nick, and Sinead in this exciting conversation about their unforgettable Road to the Horse journey.

Las Vegans love to complain about our “lack” of public transit. But with recent reports of violence on buses, the conversation has intensified. So, what does the agency running our public transportation system of buses, bike shares, and more have to say about these concerns? We are revisiting a conversation co-host Dayvid Filger had with MJ Maynard, CEO of Southern Nevada's Regional Transportation Commission (RTC). Maynard talks about how they address safety, sets the record straight about how much they actually do, and discusses the challenges of operating in our car-centric city. Roy Maynard joins us for a Pratt on Texas Podcast Extra to discuss his great column: AP's Argument Against Being Booted From WH Event Is Laughable Given Its History.More background: White House bans AP reporter from press event over style guide's objection to ‘Gulf of America' AP sues Trump to force White House access following ‘Gulf of America' row Associated Press sues three White House officials over ‘Gulf of America' feud Federal judge rejects AP's bid to overturn White House ban on outlet's access to key areas The fact is that previous administrations have let the press insiders, the correspondents association, decide who does and does not have White House credentials and access to the press room, etc. This insider dealing has ensured that conservative leaning press outlets, including some with very large audiences, have not been given access. The administration taking over access granting is how it should be irrespective of the AP's situation.
The Trombone Corner Podcast is brought to you by Bob Reeves Brass and The Brass Ark. Join hosts Noah and John as they interview Nick Lane, commercial trombonist from Los Angeles. About Nick: Nick Lane is a free lance trombonist, arranger & composer who's been a fixture on the Los Angeles music scene for many years. Born and raised in Marshalltown Iowa, he attended Drake University on a euphonium scholarship after high school. More excited by performance and jazz, he transferred to Boston's Berklee College of Music to pursue trombone and music composition. Soon after graduating he joined Maynard Ferguson's band and spent the next 4 years honing his skills, recording 5 albums and 17 of his arrangements and/or compositions with Maynard. After moving to L.A. Lane formed his own band resulting in the “Bone in the USA” album in 1985. By that time he'd been asked to do several long tours with Rod Stewart and then Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. So his band leader days transitioned into side man days, touring extensively with Stewart and later the Who (Quadraphenia) Neil Diamond, Etta James, among others. For the past 20+ years, he's often filled in with the group Chicago. When NOT traveling, Lane has found his way onto over 500 CD recordings as well as hundreds of TV shows & movies. His arrangements & compositions have been featured in all mediums. He has released 2 more CD's of his music….Alias Smith & Lane with baritone sax pal Greg Smith and a B-3 organ trio and Songs of the Heartland….a CD of music Lane composed for the Central Iowa Music Festival featuring full orchestra and chorus. It's Nick's fascination with melody and harmony that has inspired his continuing song writing and composing efforts. In more classical settings he has written extensively for brass: large ensemble, brass quintet, trombone quartet & trio plus numerous commissions for various groups and individuals. With writing partner Doc Kupka, several songs have found their way onto recent Tower of Power CD's as well as projects with vocalists Ray Greene and Ellis Hall. (Available on Strokeland Records website) Lane continues to write, record & produce horn sections in the pop, rock & R&B genres. Still not afraid to “shake it” on stage, these days he's more often found in a recording studio, trying to capture the moment.
