Mary Fahl Interview with Phil Aston At the beginning of this year I placed the album 'Can't Get It Out Of My Head by Mary Fahl at number 5 in my list of the Best Albums of 2022. If you are a fan of Joni Mitchell, Sandy Denny, Nick Drake, ELO, Pink Floyd, Richard and Linda Thompson, Neil Young, Judy Collins, George Harrison then I think you are going to love this. I am still playing it most weeks and I now also have the Deluxe Edition which comes with a 5.1 mix. In this interview I go through the album track by track and also look back at Mary's career including her stunning interpretation of Dark Side of The Moon which is also available on a BluRay DVD in 5.1 "Mary Fahl looks back to some of the essential music that has brought her sustenance and clarity by reinterpreting songs from her greatest inspirations … Pink Floyd, George Harrison, Moody Blues, ELO, The Rolling Stones, Neil Young and others. For Mary, this is a tribute to the music that defined her as an artist" Visit - https://maryfahl.com Phil Aston | Now Spinning Magazine
Hello once again everyone I'm your host Ray Shasho and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends. Singer/Songwriter Mary Fahl Interprets Pink Floyd, ELO and Others On New Solo Album “Can't Get It Out Of My Head” In an effort to find some light and comfort during these challenging times, singer/songwriter Mary Fahl looks back to some of the essential music that has brought her sustenance and clarity by reinterpreting songs from her greatest inspirations … and a tribute to the music that defined her as an artist. Mary's most recent release “Can't Get It Out of My Head,” is a collection of songs that she calls “essential” to her development as an artist … “On top of all the madness that was happening in the world, I was grappling with the devastating loss of my mother and sister this past year and was feeling completely rootless. In an effort to find an anchor, a link to the past, a sense of home, I began to immerse myself in the comfort of music from my youth. “The challenge for me and my producer Mark Doyle was to make each of these songs our own while paying tribute to their original greatness...,” says Fahl, “Along with a standard hi-res audio version, we wanted to bring these classics into a new light by utilizing the latest audio technologies to reinterpret my favorite Pink Floyd, Neil Young, George Harrison, Richard Thompson, Moody Blues, The Rolling Stones, ELO, Nick Drake, Judy Collins, and the Mamas and Papas songs in the brilliant, full immersive, high-resolution clarity of 5.1 surround.” Please welcome singer/songwriter/musician… Mary Fahl to Interviewing the Legends …. Former October Project vocalist Mary Fahl has had a solo career as unique as her voice. She's got a new album out called Can't Get It Out of My Head, which is made up of her early favorite classic songs that became part of her musical DNA. Mary was kind enough to talk about the making of the album, how she reimagined the songs to put her own spin on them, how she ended up doing a song for an Anne Rice audiobook, how she got dragged back into music, and much more. We have another wonderful 2fer for you this week. First up is Paul Humphries of OMD! The band recently completed a hugely successful US tour and are now in Europe bringing the same greatness. They remain one of the best live acts around and the music they've made since reforming a few years ago remains top notch! Paul and I discuss the history of the band, what they did during the break, and the stories behind many of the classic songs. Then we hear from the talented singer Mary Fahl! In the early 90s, Mary Fahl was the lead singer of the band October Project. That unique group was a great spotlight for her powerful vocals and when they broke up, Mary went solo and has had a strong career ever since. This week sees the release of her new covers album that features her version of classics by Pink Floyd, ELO, Judy Collins and much more. We get into the ups and downs of her career, why she loves Pink Floyd so much (she has an album covering Dark Side) and what happened with October Project. Mary Fahl has been interpreting the sounds of the deities for us for close to 30 years. She was the voice for the 90's band "October Project" which was an outstanding group of musicians. She moved on to create some wonderful classical vocal work, but she honestly can do whatever she wants. Example, she found a song in 11th Century Spanish/Arabic and sang it. Her work was also in "Gods and Generals". She most recently produced a blue ray of her own interpretation of "Dark Side of The Moon" by Pink Floyd, that was meant to be played as loud as a 747 engine blaring right outside your window. (Just get the blue ray and try it). Mary on Facebook @MaryFahlMusic www.maryfahl.com
