In this conversation, Stefani Blackwell and I discuss how we've handled conversations about death and hell with the kids. Each of our kids have various interest levels and needs as far as explanations go, but we discuss the basics of explaining hell, and the hope of heaven. We praise God that He has mercy and pray for His mercy to encompass all who pass. We allow our knowledge of hell not to scare us, but instead to convict us to tell everyone we know about Jesus. A picture book recommendation for whetting kids' appetites about the amazing place that God invites us to is "Heaven is a Wonderful Place," by Angela Burrin. This give theologically accurate descriptions of what we know about heave, and my kids love it.
Tropical Runtz: Sweet, Sticky, and Just a Little UnpredictableThis week on The Sesh, we cracked open a fresh jar of Tropical Runtz — a sticky indoor-grown hybrid that's basically a fruity love child of Runts and Tropical Truffle. If that sounds delicious, it is. If it sounds like it hits hard, well… clear your afternoon. We didn't stop at flower. We gave it a proper test drive in the Verb dry herb vaporizer by Riot — shoutout to Riot and Santa Cruz Shredder for keeping our gear game strong. Smooth grinders, slick rolling trays, and joint tubes you'll actually want to show off? Yes please.Flavor & Smell:Think sweet citrus, dried fruit, and a deep, aromatic swirl that sits somewhere between tropical punch and fancy incense. Not skunky, not earthy — just bright, sticky, and surprisingly smooth.Terpenes:Myrcene: sets the mellow baselineLimonene: lifts you up with zesty citrus vibesLinalool: sneaks in a floral calmHow It Hits:The head high shows up early — you'll feel it tickle your forehead before sliding into a clear, talkative buzz. Expect random giggles, deep thoughts, and maybe a sudden interest in reorganizing your living room. Pro tip: hydrate before you hit it — trust us.The Gear:We tested the Verb by Riot and put it through its paces. Sleek rubberized body, wide bowl, and smart airflow design. A couple hiccups with missing filters (oops), but once dialed in, it hits like a dream. If you're hunting a pocket-friendly dry herb vape, give it a look.Final Word:Tropical Runtz is one of those strains that's equally chill and lively — fruity enough for flavor chasers, potent enough for seasoned stoners. Whether you roll it, vape it, or spark it up the old-school way, you're in for a bright, sticky ride.Light it. Vape it. Let it take you somewhere tropical — no passport required.

Stefani Blackwell joins me for the sixth episode in the sticky conversations series where we discuss all topics LGBTQ. This is the most commonly asked topic for us to discuss and for good reason. It is a tough one where we feel we have to battle the culture at large and teach our children truth while at the same time being respectful and loving to those around us.Stef and I talk about how to broach these subjects with kids young and old and how to talk about them honestly without ruminating on them. We give some real examples of family members and friends who struggle with SSA or gender dysphoria and how we help our kids navigate those relationships. We know that with Christ there is always hope for sinners, which includes us!We encourage you to check out Kim Zember's new podcast called "here I AM stories" where she interviews individuals who have lived the LGBTQ+ lifestyles and found their way out toward Christ. These stories give us insight into the lived experiences of those struggling and what to do (or rather what NOT to do) when in relationship with them.

Today we'll look through the lens of Paul's words to the Corinthians to see what wisdom from God he had to share regarding a church full of spiritual imbalances.

Your favourite cooking nerds get EXCITED over an internet recipe that has the Comments Section going off.You know how they say "you should never read the comments"?Not in this case! The recipe is here. The modifications are:Cut the chicken into smaller pieces than suggested, then marinate them in 2tbs Garam Masala, 1tbs finely minced ginger and 1tbs fish sauce. To up the coconutty flavour, fry the chicken in coconut oil, not neutral oil. Don't use coconut cream (too oily), use coconut milk.Yumi also beefed up the cashews to 1 whole cup, and added 1/4 cup currants. (Raisins would also be amazing.)Yumi forgot to say in this episode - before you put the lid on and pop in the oven - LAY THE CHICKEN PIECES ON TOP OF THE RICE. Lol. We all get caught in relationship drama from time to time. Whether it's with our partners, friends, family members, or even ourselves, these patterns can feel frustrating and difficult to escape. The good news? There are frameworks that can help us recognize when we're stuck in drama and practical tools we can use to shift into more empowering dynamics. In this episode, we dive into the Drama Triangle, a powerful model that helps us understand the roles we play in our relationship conflicts, and explore how we can transform these patterns into healthier interactions. We share our own experiences getting caught in these cycles and the small but significant steps that have helped us break free. We're unpacking:— The Drama Triangle model and its three archetypal roles: victim, hero (rescuer), and villain (persecutor)— How we each have preferred "on-ramps" to drama that feel familiar even when they're uncomfortable— The ways we unconsciously maintain drama cycles in our relationships— How we can play multiple roles in the Drama Triangle, even all by ourselves— The Empowerment Dynamic as an alternative to the Drama Triangle— How to transform from victim to creator, hero to coach, and villain to challenger— Why small actions can create significant shifts in breaking drama patterns— The importance of recognizing when you're in the Drama Triangle before you can step out of it— How non-monogamy can amplify drama triangles by adding more people to the system— Real examples from our relationship where we've gotten stuck in drama and found our way out— Why it's so challenging (but possible!) to break free from familiar patternsResources mentioned in this episode:— The Drama Triangle model by Stephen Karpman— The Empowerment DynamicJOIN The Year Of Opening® community for a full year of learning & support. Join Stef Blackwell and I again for another conversation about sticky topics we have to uncover with our kids. Today we talk about teaching our kids about disabilities, whether they be obvious, physical disabilities or not-so-obvious mental ones. This can be difficult because kids can often not know how to handle seeing someone with a big disability and be unwittingly unkind. They can also be difficult as we teach our kids about boundaries we (or they) may want to set for our children's protection. We pray this episode does not offend or that we do not share something that leads anyone astray. In this punchy and provocative episode of the Mark and Pete Podcast, we tackle three of Britain's strangest and most telling headlines this week. First, we scrutinise Prime Minister Keir Starmer's policy U-turns, from winter fuel payments to welfare reform and grooming gang inquiries. Is this leadership, or just carefully managed confusion? We unpack the spiritual implications of political inconsistency in high office. Next, it's the tale of two mischievous brown bears breaking into a Devon food store and bingeing on a week's supply of honey. Beyond the giggles, we ask serious questions about stewardship, creation, and why animals sometimes show more wisdom than governments. Finally, we delve into the world of cutting-edge science, where UK researchers are attempting to synthesise human DNA from scratch. We explore the ethical minefield of synthetic biology, its chilling Frankenstein echoes, and whether man should ever try to play God. Each segment is grounded in biblical wisdom and delivered with sharp wit, cultural critique, and a touch of righteous sarcasm. Relationships are beautiful, yet complex. We thrive when we're on the same page and in harmony with one another. But when that gets complicated because we feel wronged by a person, bitterness can creep in and create a toxic relationship… with ourselves. Resentment is a powerful emotion that sends us down a downward spiral. There's only one thing that can pull us out… and that's what we're talking about today.

Episode Four of the Sticky Conversations series is all about technology including TV, video games, phones, social media, etc. Stephani Blackwell, and I discuss the necessity of first examining our own relationship with technology--especially phone usage and social media, and letting that be the first thing we work on before trying to influence our children's relationship with technology. We discuss specific ideas for limiting technology, but focus mainly on how parents need to determine their own personal philosophies about technology and then let their examples and rules be based on that. Technology, though it can lead to many temptations and trouble, is not itself evil, and using it as a tool is not a bad thing. But we do not want technology to rule us. Follow along to hear more thoughts!Check out The Tech Exit by Clare Morell to hear more insights about how technology can influence children (and their parents!)Listen to Episode 157 of the Raising Boys and Girls podcast for more thoughts and ideas.

Back again with Steph Blackwell to discuss another sticky conversation. This topic was given to us by a listener who wanted to teach her daughter about feminism without bringing down men or pretending that men and women are made the same.Steph and I discuss how to honor both sexes through the concepts of theology of the body, historical contexts, and living examples in our marriages. We believe that God made both men and women equal in dignity, but very different in form and purpose. We try to portray that to both our sons and daughters in both word and deed and discuss practical ways we can do that in front of our kids. Though talking about friendships doesn't seem like the "stickiest" topic, we have found in experience that there can be many sticky conversations surrounding friendships (especially with girls). Hurt feelings, bad influences, and handling fights or bad behavior are all examples of things that parents have to help their kids navigate with friends, and Stef shares from an abundance of wisdom and experience about how she handles friendships with her kids. As with sex, we find that starting conversations with your kids early about how to be a good friend (sharing, not hitting, etc.) is the best way to open the door to future conversations about deeper issues. We also find that examining your own relationships (with God, your husband, and friends) helps us to be able to teach our children honestly and vulnerably. Listen in for examples, ideas, and thoughts on godly friendship and how to teach it to our kids!

Jeremy Popielarz dives into some of the more intriguing running back situations as OTAs are in full swing. Who are the players to invest in? Which situation should you avoid altogether?
Probably one of the most common topics for parents to DREAD talking to their kids about: SEX. This can be hard because it's a sensitive, private topic that we would like to keep private! We don't want to scar our kids with too many details, but we don't want them to learn the complete wrong things either. How do we share the right things about sex at the right time and how do we do that without 1) freaking our kids out or 2) accidentally "telling" the whole neighborhood about sex via our children?Stefani Blackwell and I begin this Sticky Conversations series by sharing about The Birds and the Bees organization, how we've implemented our own family philosophies about sex, and how starting the conversation earlier helps a lot when you are talking about the "pains and pleasures" of sex later on in your kids' lives. Listen in to hear our experiences and check out The Birds and the Bees for more content!
