Why the best leaders treat uncertainty as a chance to learn, not a failure to avoid. Most companies are built to grow. Far fewer are built to stay true to their purpose as they do.Eric Ries is an entrepreneur, creator of the Lean Startup movement, and author of Incorruptible: Why Good Companies Go Bad and How Great Companies Stay Great. For Ries, innovation starts with a simple reality: nobody can predict the future. “If you're going to do something fundamentally new,” he says, “how are we supposed to forecast” what success will look like? Instead of relying on certainty, leaders should focus on learning. “If you cannot fail, you cannot learn.”In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Ries and host Matt Abrahams explore how leaders can communicate through uncertainty, turn setbacks into valuable insights, and build cultures rooted in trust. From the power of the build-measure-learn feedback loop to the importance of making “deposits” in a company's culture bank, Ries shares practical strategies for creating organizations that innovate, adapt, and stay true to their values as they grow.To listen to the extended Deep Thinks version of this episode, please visit FasterSmarter.io/premium.Episode Reference Links:Eric RiesEric's Book: IncorruptibleEp.56 Lean Messaging: How Simple Messages Really StickEp.54 Leadership and Ethics: How to Communicate Your Core Values Connect:Premium Signup >>>> Think Fast Talk Smart PremiumEmail Questions & Feedback >>> hello@fastersmarter.ioEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedIn Chapters:(00:00) - Introduction (02:21) - Lean Startup Fundamentals (04:03) - Business Plans vs. Reality (06:31) - Learning from Failure (08:11) - Why Companies Go Bad (10:49) - The Culture Bank (13:51) - The Final Three Questions (22:05) - Conclusion ********Thank you to our sponsors. Ahead of the sophomore edition in her party series Culture Club, OG SHEZ sets the tone with her Wild City mix. It moves from rising Shillong rapper Reble's just-released track 'Praying Mantis' and an edit of Travis Scott to the Punjabi dance number 'Jersey Jhoomer' and a Cardi B edit – all within the first 4 minutes. Evidently, the Mumbai DJ moves fast, quick-cutting through disparate genres but with a common bounce. 10 minutes in with the cinematic rhythmic layers of 'Ganga Riddim', the mix shifts more into layering, building grooves through works from homegrown talents such as Karan Kanchan, noni-mouse, tricksingh and even Rajah Betta's recent Apache Indian flip 'ChokL8' before ending the journey with Drake and The Weeknd collaboration 'Crew Love'. OG SHEZ brings recognisable voices but, like a true DJ, elevates their individual merit till they slam hard together for the dancefloor. Send us Fan MailWhat does it actually take to make people feel seen at work — and keep it going? In this episode, Una from HeyTaco sits down with Sheena, a longtime culture builder and HeyTaco admin, to share what actually moved the needle for her team. Not theory. Real tactics, real stories, real results. They walk through four pillars of building culture with peer recognition — Connection, Visibility, Engagement, and Culture — and for each one, they dig into the symptoms to watch for and the specific things you can do about them. You'll hear how Sheena used core value hashtags to make company values something people actually did (and how she discovered two of their five values were never showing up), why bringing Taco Shoutouts into all-company meetings changed the whole energy in the room, and how a rotating Culture Club helped her keep recognition fresh for years. If you've ever wondered how to get peer recognition off the ground — or how to make it feel meaningful again after the novelty wears off — this one's for you.

This week on Singapore Home Brew, Saturday Mornings Show host Glenn van Zutphen and co-host Neil Humphreys are joined by Brian Slattery, CEO and Founder of Teamwork Unlocked, and former Head of Culture Club at Google, for a refreshingly honest look at what really happens inside teams when different brains, strengths, and cognitive styles collide. Brian’s journey—from building Google Singapore’s legendary in‑office board‑game café to designing escape‑room‑powered leadership programmes—reveals how unconventional environments can expose hidden team dynamics far more effectively than traditional workshops. His late ADHD diagnosis also gives him a unique lens on leadership quirks, communication gaps, and the psychological safety teams need to thrive. Teamwork Unlocked now uses custom‑built escape rooms to observe how teams behave under pressure: who steps up, who withdraws, how decisions are made, and where trust breaks down. These insights form the basis of immersive programmes that help organisations strengthen collaboration, improve conversations, and unlock performance. Brian shares why many teams struggle not because of strategy, but because of unspoken assumptions, mismatched working styles, and a lack of shared language around trust. For adults navigating hybrid work, new teams, or leadership transitions, this conversation offers practical, human‑centred tools to build teams that actually work.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Producer Paul O'Duffy may not have been the actual architect of the sophistopop movement in the UK in the late 80s, but he had a hand in popularizing it. The man helped shape the sound of five of the major players within the genre - Hipsway, Breathe, Curiosity Killed the Cat, Danny Wilson, and Swing Out Sister, which he was practically the unofficial third member of for many years. Along the way he brought his expertise to artists like Dusty Springfield and Culture Club as well as groups outside the genre like Pretenders and House of Love. Paul regales us with stories this week of all of this and more. It's a great way to close out 2025! Paul Staveley O'Duffy The Hustle Podcast | creating podcasts | Patreon
