“You don't need perfect conditions to grow. You just need the courage to keep showing up.” – Coach Jineen Episode 101 is a continuation of the refinement—and this time, we're blooming even deeper with a powerful conversation featuring Coach Kendra J. Together, we dive into what it really means to flourish into your greatness—and not just by doing more, but by becoming more aligned, more intentional, and more you. If you've ever struggled with showing up consistently while also trying to remain authentic, this one is for you. Coach Kendra and I get real about: How to maintain momentum when life and motherhood try to pull you off track The difference between busyness and purpose—and how self-care becomes the bridge Building a life that reflects your values, not just your to-do list Why flourishing isn't about perfection—it's about rooted growth The power of authentic leadership and staying true to your voice in every room you enter How we've both learned to choose ourselves daily without guilt while navigating entrepreneurship, motherhood, and healing We're speaking directly to the ambitious woman who's doing “all the things”—corporate or entrepreneurial, maybe both—and wondering if it's even possible to sustain momentum and stay whole. Sis, it is. But not without intention. This episode will call you higher—while also giving you permission to rest, reflect, and realign. Because flourishing doesn't come from force. Send us a textHEDWIGBefore we say auf wiedersehen to Season 14 with its eight revamps of the previously covered during the show's first five years, the boys of TGTPTU reveal their unexpected special little packages: 1x1's, wherein each host shall choose a single film by its merits of discussion and unlikelihood to be exposed on a future 4x4, creator, or thematic season. The first of these darlings is Thomas's: HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH (2001). Adapted from the rock musical of the same name that started as the collaboration between frontman of the NYC-based band Cheater (performing on stage as Hedwig's band) Stephen Trask and then actor later turned actor-director with this debut film John Cameron Mitchell. Hedwig's story, on stage told in song and monologue, of male-to-female surgery so as to marry an American GI and leave East Berlin originated from Mitchell's own experiences as a military brat in Germany and Kansas trailer parks while the jealousy and newer betrayal Hedwig expresses toward her protégé and superstar success/successor Tommy Gnosis (also played by Mitchell in the play but embodied by Early Aughts indie film darling and pod-contentious actor Michael Pitt) is elevated by Trask's music and lyrics and is expanded and enriched with animation, locations, and added characters (most notably Andrea Martin as the band's manager) for the silver screen. Learn more about the progression from stage to screen from Thomas on research; jam out to Rock Facts with Ryan (sorry, mineralogists, but we're talking glam and punk rock here); former host Jack on vibes in the rhythm section wakes up mid-episode to like the film and dig the hand-drawn animation; and Ken lands his rimshot, getting to tell his joke that calls back to TGTPTU's Nolan coverage (Season 12). Spoiler: You'll be hearing from four Hed heads. Reminder: You don't put a bra in a dryer! CONTENT WARNING: At least once during the episode the “f” word (“Ferengi”) is used. Reminder: You are not responsible for how others feel or react. Just because someone's feelings are hurt, doesn't necessarily mean you did anything wrong! It's important to check-in with yourself: Did you say something unkind and need to apologize for that? Or is this person just upset because they didn't get the answer they were hoping for? Today's quote obviously inspired this discussion: “We are not responsible for how others feel or react.” (from a @YouNeedTherapyPodcast post about a recent "couch talks" episode) OTHER THINGS DISCUSSED: -Codependency -People pleasing (when you people please you give up the opportunity to be your authentic self!) -We make decisions that others may not like because NEWS FLASH: we're different -4 Thoughts To Lose If You Want To Be Happy-Onomatopoeias -Benefits of Celebration Journaling -It's ok to brag on yourself to your brain! -Thriller books Kat is reading right now! -The hurdles in booking a hotel block in Nashville -The best burger Amy has ever had! Welcome back to our continued conversation with Sarah Spellman about the intersection of neurodiversity and queerness and introduces us to a new word: NEUROQUEER. It's a noun, a verb, and an identity! Katie yet again takes us down a visual extravaganza when it comes to teaching people how to use public restrooms and Sarah teaches us how we're all just made of stardust and be confident in the fact that neurotypical things are just not for us. We also go on a brief Chik-Fil-A tirade because FUCK THOSE GUYS. Laughter truly is the best medicine even if we're only funny because of the .~:*Trauma*:~. It was a real treat for me to talk with guitar legend Joel Hoekstra, who is probably best known for having been in Whitesnake for nearly a decade. He's also a member of Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Revolution Saints, and Iconic. He's played on Broadway in Rock of Ages, toured with Cher, and is a former member of Night Ranger. Joel's solo project, Joel Hoekstra's 13, has a new album dropping soon called Crash of Life. It's another standout effort from Joel and an all-star cast of musicians and Joel was gracious enough to take the time to talk to me about all of the above. Find out more about Joel and his work at JoelHoekstra.com. If you like Record Store Day, like I do, you look forward each year to seeing what titles will be available and strategizing for the big event. But what goes on behind the scenes? How do the record stores deal with RSD? I questioned Sandy Bitman, owner of Orlando, Florida's Park Ave CDs to find out more about Record Store Day, record store ownership, and more. It was a fun conversation, and a bit of a departure from the normal album discussion. I hope you like it. Support your local, independent record store! As we continue our "Backup to Basics" series, we touch on one of the most important questions of all: what is backup and restore? (And how does it different than archive and retrieve?) The answer to these questions are both simple and nuanced. It's important to have a solid understanding of backup and restore in order to understand how archive is different.
