The Boxmasters have performed on “The Grand Ole Opry” in 2015, and in 2023 The Boxmasters fulfilled a life-long dream of playing The Cavern Club in Liverpool. PROG SUPERGROUP COSMIC CATHEDRAL RELEASING DEBUT ALBUM FEATURING NEAL MORSE…CHESTER THOMPSON…PHIL KAEGGY…BYRON HOUSE… ZOOM SPECIAL EDITION WITH EX GENESIS DRUMMER CHESTER THOMPSON ON INTERVIEWING THE LEGENDS   Hello everyone and we are back for another edition of Interviewing the Legends… I'm your host Ray Shasho. How do you make an album that is different to what is usually expected of you? One answer is to work with musicians who also have decades of experience and worldwide recognition, plant a few seeds, then stand back and see what happens. For the Cosmic Cathedral project and their debut album ‘Deep Water', this is exactly what Neal Morse did, joining up with Chester Thompson, Phil Keaggy & Byron House. As Keaggy comments: “It was an honor to be invited and included in the making of the Deep Water project with Neal, Chester and Byron.” Much of the album was created from jam sessions where Morse's long-time audio partner Jerry Guidroz put the best parts together, then Morse and the band developed them into songs and epics. “Much of the album, and certainly “Time To Fly”, came directly from the jam sessions, where we were spontaneously creating in the room. Even a lot of the lyrics just came out of our mouths! It was amazing!” What resulted from all this was a more groove-orientated feel, which Morse calls a “prog meets yacht rock meets The Beatles” kind of album, with an unmistakable jazz fusion influence: “These guys are real groovers: even if they're playing proggy stuff, it has more of a Steely Dan feel to it, but when Phil and I start singing it sounds like The Beatles! In Deep Water, the ‘New Revelation' section is based on a jam that turned into something that could have been on a Sting album! So, there's a lot of variety here.” And Chester Thompson says, “I am super excited for people to hear this album. There was great communication between all the players. One of my favorite projects I've ever been a part of!” And coming from someone who's played with Genesis and Frank Zappa, that's quite a statement! Since the early eighties, Cam has been working in voice-overs, particularly in animation, Voicing such characters as Leonardo in the original “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”. Cam has voiced many other characters as well including Der Fledermaus in “The Tick”, Mac on “Clifford the Big Red Dog”, He-Man in “He-Man: Masters of the Universe”, and Freddy the Ferret in “Back at the Barnyard”. He has also been the voice of Snoopy, Simba, and can currently be heard as Heath, Hoodude, and Professor Rotter in “Monster High”. He has supplied voices for numerous video games, most notably Kratos in “Tales of Symphonia”, Blood Elf in “World Of Warcraft”, and the voice of Liquid Snake for the popular “Metal Gear Solid” series wherein the sequel his character came back as an arm. Days Between Stations are releasing their fourth album, “Perpetual Motion Machines (Music For A Film),” on November 29.  Recently released is the music video “Seeds.” The music video for “Seeds” features artist Jean-Paul Bourdier BOO DWA at work, altering landscapes, coloring bodies, marking up film frames, playing with manufactured items to see how they influence visuals.   “Perpetual Motion Machines (Music For Film)” is the result of DBS founding members keyboardist Oscar Fuentes Bills and guitarist Sepand Samzadeh working on the music for a documentary film about Jean-Paul Bourdier, himself, in the mid-2010s. As the music reached completion, the group was offered the opportunity to release their music as a “proper” album. Sepand says, “Jean Paul's artwork was our muse, and we scored the music to pictures and to existing films.” Pink Floyd backup vocalist Durga McBroom sings on “Being,” which will be released as a video. BRUCE KULICK 'THE LOST INTERVIEWS' with RAY SHASHO EPISODE 17 INTERVIEWED JUNE 22ND 2015 Got to Get Back is the latest release by KKB, a 1974 power trio that featured lead guitarist Bruce Kulick, singer/bassist Mike Katz, and drummer Guy Bois. It's a hard driving/progressive rock sound reminiscent to the styles of Cream, YES, and King Crimson. The band may have even become legendary if it hadn't been for their lack of professional guidance. The title track …“Got to Get Back” is a brand new song. Kulick says … “I thought the way we could celebrate it the best after 40 years was actually to record a new song with the same guys, I gave Mike a riff that I thought was similar to the kind of progressive /metal trio style we did back in 1974 and he ran with it and turned into a terrific song.” Got to Get Back by KKB is a timeless gem performed by three first-rate musicians. (5) Stars! BRUCE KULICK was a veteran guitarist for “The Hottest Band In The World” … KISS! It was during the unmasking period for the legendary rockers who officially appeared in public without makeup in an appearance on MTV in 1983. Kulick would join KISS as their fourth lead guitarist in less than three years and holds title to the longest continuous tenure of anyone other than Simmons and Stanley (September 1984 to August 1996). Although Kulick never wore the band's iconic makeup, he says …“It keeps my era a little bit more unique and sacred in a sense and I'm there to waive the flag for it.” Bruce Kulick played on (5) KISS studio albums … Asylum, Crazy Nights, Hot in the Shade, Revenge, Carnival of Souls: The Final Sessions. Kulick also appeared on Alive III and KISS Unplugged. The song "I Walk Alone" from Carnival of Souls: The Final Sessions is the only KISS track to feature Kulick as lead vocalist. To date, Kulick is featured on more than (20) KISS releases. The ‘Farewell Tour' featured original KISS members Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss. Frehley left the group after the tour but Kulick was not asked to return as their lead guitarist; instead Tommy Thayer became the new spaceman for KISS. Kulick did however continue to work with the band by contributing on several albums. In 1997, Kulick formed ‘Union' with lead vocalist/guitarist John Corabi (Mötley Crüe, Ratt), drummer Brent Fitz (Slash, Vince Neil), and bassist James Hunting (David Lee Roth, Eddie Money). ‘Union' released (2) studio albums, two singles: "Old Man Wise" and "October Morning Wind," and a live album. Since 2001, Bruce Kulick has been the lead guitarist for Grand Funk Railroad. The original band was a power trio that featured current band members Don Brewer and Mel Schacher. PATRICK SIMMONS  'THE LOST INTERVIEWS' with RAY SHASHO Episode 16 Interviewed Tuesday, November 15, 2011  I had the opportunity to interview Doobie Brothers legendary guitarist and songwriter Patrick Simmons a few days before the 2011 Orlando Calling festival. Pat Simmons was introduced to future Doobie Brothers bandmates Tom Johnston and John Hartman by Moby Grape's Skip Spence in 1969 forming the foundation to what would eventually be one of the most esteemed classic rock bands in history.  Pat is usually identified as the Doobie Brother with the longest hair. His heartfelt vocal styles are significant to the band's success. He's an important musician with eclectic musical styles and tastes. TOM JOHNSTON THE DOOBIE BROTHERS ‘THE LOST INTERVIEWS' with RAY SHASHO EPISODE 15 INTERVIEWED FEBRUARY 17TH 2013   The Doobie Brothers are one of those bands that we've depended on, year after year, and expect to see performing invariably at outdoor music festivals, pavilions, arenas, casinos and bike week events across the nation. The group has been exhilarating audiences for decades yet appear timeless onstage. One of the principal reasons for the longevity and success of the Doobie Brothers has a lot to do with an unmitigated affection shared between the band and its audience. It's been an amazing love affair that has persevered for over forty-two years. When the Doobie Brothers finally call it quits … rock ‘n' roll will probably call it quits too.  Tom Johnston is the voice, lyricist and guitarist on numerous classic hit recordings by the Doobie Brothers. Inspired by listening to R&B music on the radio, California native Johnston started his first band at 14, eventually broadening his musical horizons by singing with soul and blues groups. After moving to San Jose to finish college, Tom met Skip Spence, original drummer for the Jefferson Airplane. Spence introduced Johnston to drummer John Hartman. Spence was also a founding member of Moby Grape which had a major influence on the Doobie Brothers. Tom Johnston, John Hartman and bassist Greg Murphy formed the power trio “Pud.” When “Pud” unraveled, the evolution of the Doobie Brothers began to take shape. While living in a home dubbed as their “musical headquarters,” guitarist Patrick Simmons and bassist Dave Shogren joined the group. The band quickly generated a huge following in California. In 1971, the Doobie Brothers launched their self- titled debut album, The Doobie Brothers on the Warner Brothers label with legendary producers Ted Templeman and Lenny Waronker. The first track on the album, “Nobody” penned by Tom Johnston, would later resurface in 2010 on their latest release, World Gone Crazy. Their second studio album Toulouse Street (named for a street in the French Quarter of New Orleans) introduced new bassist Tiran Porter and second drummer Michael Hossack (Navy Veteran). The album spawned the Tom Johnston penned classic hits, “Listen to the Music” (#11 Top 100 Billboard Hit -1972), “Rockin' Down the Highway” and “Jesus Is Just Alright,” (#35 Billboard Top 100 Hit -1973) written by Arthur Reynolds (1965) and performed by The Byrds (1969). In 1973, the Doobie Brothers released, The Captain and Me spotlighting some of the bands most memorable classic rock tunes penned by Tom Johnston … “Long Train Runnin'”(#8 Billboard Hot 100 Hit) and perhaps the bands anthem song, “China Grove” (#15 Billboard Hot 100 Hit). The Captain and Me also featured a guest performance by future Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan guitarist Jeff “Skunk” Baxter. The Doobie Brothers fourth studio album, What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits released in 1974 spawned the Tom Johnston penned songs, “Another Park, Another Sunday” (#32 Billboard Hot 100 Hit) and “Eyes of Silver” (#52 Billboard Hot 100 Hit). The album also featured Pat Simmons penned tribute to “The Big Easy,” “Black Water” (#1 Billboard Hot 100 Hit -1975). Stampede released in 1975 was the final album before Michael McDonald took over lead vocalist duties from an ailing Tom Johnston. The album featured the cover version, “Take Me in Your Arms (Rock Me A Little While)” (#11 Billboard Hot 100 Hit -1975) written by the Motown team of Holland-Dozier-Holland. Subsequent albums …Takin' It to the Streets (1976), Livin' on the Fault Line (1977), Minute by Minute (1978) and One Step Closer (1980) featured a successful second incarnation of the band, which primarily consisted of Michael McDonald(vocals, keyboards) Patrick Simmons (guitars/vocals) Jeff “Skunk” Baxter (guitars, steel guitars), Tiran Porter(bass, vocals), John Hartman (drums) and Keith Knudsen (drums). *Tom Johnston played and sang “Turn It Loose” and “Wheels of Fortune” on the album Takin' It to the Streets. John McFee was added to the Doobie Brothers lineup in 1979 replacing Jeff “Skunk” Baxter and was featured on One Step Closer. After a successful run, the band's signature sound and direction became disillusioned. While working on his solo project, Tom Johnston rejoined the band for a Farewell Tour, and then the Doobie Brothers would call it quits as a band for the next five years. The reformation of the Doobie Brothers was contrived when the band's alumni were asked by drummer Keith Knudsen to perform at a concert to benefit veterans' causes. The band discovered that tickets were in great demand and soon embarked on a twelve-city tour.   In 1989, Cycles, the tenth studio recording by the Doobie Brothers, now on Capitol Records, witnessed the return of Tom Johnston and drummer Michael Hossack to the studio as a band. Tom Johnston's distinctive vocals returned, and the band re-established their musical roots. Subsequent releases … Brotherhood (1991), Sibling Rivalry (2000) and World Gone Crazy (2010). World Gone Crazy was the Doobie Brothers highest charting album since 1989 receiving rave reviews and featuring the longtime core lineup of Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons. The Doobie Brothers band functions like a well-oiled machine, touring consistently year after year and enchanting music enthusiasts worldwide. THE CHRIS SLADE TIMELINE ANNOUNCE THEIR RELEASE OF NEW ALBUM ‘TIMESCAPE' EXCLUSIVE ZOOM INTERVIEW WITH LEGENDARY DRUMMER CHRIS SLADE   Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I'm your host Ray Shasho.  Chris Slade started his career at the age of 16 with Tom Jones before he changed his name to Tom Jones. Chris contributed significantly to Jones's world tours and recordings throughout the 60s. Slade was a founding member of Manfred Mann's Earth Band in January 1971. He was to spend seven years with the band, recording eight albums and achieving three UK Top Ten singles in the process: 'Joybringer' (No. 9, October 1973), ‘Blinded By The Light' (No. 6, September 1976 & a multimillion selling #1 in the USA) and ‘Davy's On The Road Again' (No.6, June 1978). After Earthband he spent two years with Uriah Heep, one year with Gary Numan and one year with David Gilmour in 1984. He later teamed up with Jimmy Page, Paul Rodgers and bassist Tony Franklin to form The Firm. They produced two excellent albums for Atlantic in 1985 and 1986 that earned them chart and radio hits including 'Radioactive' and 'Satisfaction Guaranteed.' Chris became the drummer of AC/DC over the course of the next five years, playing on their acclaimed 'Razors Edge' Album, and giving a killer performance on their concert DVD “Live from Donington.” After his stint with AC/DC, Chris joined the prog-rock band Asia, Chris recorded with them on their 2000-2004 studio recordings, 'Aura' and 'Silent Nation' , and put forth his trademark energy-filled live performances on all the subsequent tours that ensued over the next five years. Between 2005 and 2010, Slade played drums for German guitarist Michael Schenker before forming THE CHRIS SLADE TIMELINE in 2012, and at that time marking 50 years as a professional rock drummer.
