2020’s Faith series has brought us incredible leaders across decades, generations, denominations, and ideologies. We've listened to what makes them excited to be in the faith right now and what's been challenging. We've talked about ways to build a brighter, more beautiful church. As we wrap this series, we're going to dig in a little deeper to one specific place, and we’ve enlisted three faith leaders to help us navigate through a much-needed discussion. And these faith leaders are members of the LGBTQ+ community—because it is possible to be a part of a church that is passionate about Jesus and affirming to LGBTQ+ groups. Matthew Vines is the founder of the Reformation Project, a nonprofit that educates Christians about the biblical case for LGBTQ+ inclusion. He's also the author of “God and the Gay Christian: The Biblical Case in Support of Same-Sex Relationships.” Michael Vazquez is the director of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's Religion and Faith Program in DC. He leads efforts there to advance equity initiatives in faith communities. B.T. Harman is a content creator and speaker. His blog and podcast “Blue Babies Pink” shed some beautiful light on what it is like to love Jesus, love the church, and be gay. Each of these men has deep commitment to their faith and to the church, and during their formative years, they had to reckon with the truth that they were gay—and they experienced the full spectrum of pain and discovery that so often comes with this particular journey. Today we ask some hard questions: what does it mean to hold one another and our faith leaders accountable? And when it comes to affirmation, what's public and what's private? How can we be the best allies for our LGBTQ+ friends? How can we listen and avoid “canceling” one another if we don’t agree, or are there times when it’s called for? Our conversation is fully open, filled with grace and understanding, helping us to view things from different perspectives in the most rewarding way possible.

Today, not tomorrow, not next week, not next year when you think you're gonna have plenty of time to do what you want, get your priorities straight. That's not gonna happen. And it's definitely not gonna happen if you don't start putting in the work today. Nobody's gonna lift the weights for you, nobody's gonna do the pull ups for you, nobody's gonna go out and put in the road work for you. You gotta do all that yourself. Quit waiting for the perfect time, Quit waiting for the perfect situation to occur, it's not gonna happen. You wanna know when the time is right? The time is right now. So what are you doing with your time? Are you doing something productive? Are you moving towards your goal? Making yourself better? Or are you letting time slip by wasted? Stop wasting time and get after it. You cannot stop. Rest if you must, but you cannot stop and question your circumstance and situation so much so, that while you could be working, while you could be further along the road less traveled, you're sitting there contemplating like, you're sitting there moaning about it, you're sitting there complaining about it, and I get it, I understand, but you gotta work. You gotta work because you know what's gonna happen? You're gonna wake up 60 days later, 90 days later, and everything is gonna change but you. and you're gonna get the same results you got because you're the exact same person. So work. You don't get bulk by staring at weights. You don't get healthier by staring at it. You get healthier by running up to it and grabbing it, and pushing it. Push through that stuff. Push through it. Just keep working. I need you to wake up everyday and say "Today I will not stop. I will not give up. I will not give in." Nobody said it would be easy. If it was easy, everybody would do it. With every great thing in life there is gonna be sacrifice. With every great thing in life there is gonna be work. And with every great thing in life there is gonna be time. You're gonna have to make difficult decisions, you're gonna have to put in the work, and you're gonna have to be patient. But if you can combine those three things, that's what makes great things happen, that's what builds epic lives, and builds ultimate realisations of potential. But you're never gonna be able to do it if you keep kicking the sh*t down the road. make this year, the year that you commit to yourself, that you're going to make progress. All it takes is some discipline and some hard-nosed dedication, some hard-nosed commitment. If you can commit to winning every f*cking day this year, your life will be drastically different this time next year.

Because if you can, you're f*cking lying to yourself. Your best is a moving, evolving, changing scale. You can always do better, you can always do more, you can always improve, you can always find a way to get a better result, and to sharpen your skills. You guys are always looking for that extra thing, "I'm gonna read this book, I'm gonna buy this program, I'm gonna join this mastermind group, I'm gonna go to this seminar." None of those things will replace the f*cking work. There is no shortcut, there is no way to make it faster, there is no way to make it easier. You've got to do the f*cking work. You can't go through life looking to do the minimum and get the maximum. If you want the maximum, you gotta f*cking do the maximum. There's somebody out there who wants your spot. You're not the only one trying to go to Harvard, you're not the only one trying to go to the NBA, you're not the only one trying to go to the NFL, and so you gotta embody excellence. You gotta go a little further than the man who's trying to get what you're trying to get. I dare you to try to get to success without excellence, I dare you to try to shortcut success, I dare you to try short change success, it's not going to happen. There are no shortcuts to success. You can't go around it, you can't go under it, you can't go over it, the only way you can get to it, is through it. every single day you wake up, you gotta give it all you've got, you gotta 120%. Don't fool yourself into thinking that this year is gonna be better than last year if you're still making excuses, there are no excuses. You gotta work for it, you gotta put forth 120%. You can have it, you can be it, you can do it. But you gotta accept the challenge. What are you doing to make your next effort, your best effort? Are you reaching deep down inside to fight through everything that you're going through right now? Or are you settling to be where you are, at this current moment? Now is not the time to complain, now is the time to maintain that dream. You need to work an hour longer, you need to run just a little faster, you need to put 5 more pounds on the rack. That's the effort you need to be great. That's the sacrifice that you have to put in in order for you to get to the next level that you need to be at. In order for you to be remembered.
