This week's quiz: On 13 December, I asked you a question about Paul Myers' article “Nigeria power past Mozambique into quarterfinals at Africa Cup of Nations”. Nigeria had just beaten Mozambique 4 to 0. Paul noted in his article that the win was the biggest winning margin in a Cup of Nations knockout tie since the Africa Cup in 2010. And that was one of your questions: you were to tell me which countries played in the Africa Cup semi-finals in 2010, and who won that knockout tie by 4 to 0. The second question was: In the Nigeria/Mozambique match, what is the name of the Nigerian player who scored the fourth goal? The answer is, to quote Paul's article: “Akor Adams, fed by Lookman, thrashed in Nigeria's fourth goal 15 minutes from time to notch up the biggest winning margin in a Cup of Nations knockout tie since Egypt battered Algeria 4-0 in the semi-finals at the 2010 tournament in Angola.” So, Egypt/Algeria, and Akor Adams are the correct answers. Vehículos de ocasión, tendencias El parque móvil español sigue envejecido año tras año. Ante las incertidumbres ya conocidas, el mercado de ocasión se mantiene como una opción muy atractiva para muchos conductores. Hoy analizamos su situación contando con el portal de referencia especializado en movilidad Coches.net, que acaba de publicar su barómetro anual. Entre otras cuestiones, en este informe destaca que el precio medio del vehículo de ocasión mantiene su tendencia al alza otra vez más. La media anual de 2025 es de 17.758 euros, lo que supone un aumento del 6,1% frente a la de 2024. Se ha encarecido 1.031 euros. El vehículo diésel sigue siendo el preferido con más del 49% del total de las ventas, seguido del de gasolina con el 37,3%. A mediados del siglo XIX Málaga era el segundo centro industrial de España. La ciudad, ubicada en la costa del Mediterráneo a corta distancia del estrecho de Gibraltar, supo aprovecharse de las grandes transformaciones económicas que se estaban produciendo en la Europa occidental de aquella época a causa de la revolución industrial. Esa revolución había comenzado en Inglaterra un siglo antes, pero no sería hasta después de las guerras napoleónicas cuando dio el salto al continente. En algunas regiones de Europa la chispa prendió con facilidad como Bélgica, el valle del Rin, el norte de Francia o la llanura padana. En España, carente en su práctica totalidad de ríos navegables, dos ciudades portuarias tomaron la delantera. Una fue Barcelona, la otra Málaga. El caso malagueño no sorprendió a nadie ya que la ciudad había crecido de forma sostenida durante el siglo XVIII gracias a una serie de cultivos muy apreciados en el extranjero como el vino de Málaga, una variedad que se exportaba con grandes beneficios a lugares tan distantes como las islas británicas o la Rusia de Catalina la Grande. Este comercio floreciente atrajo a la ciudad a un gran número de mercaderes llegados desde el resto de España y también de otros países. Sobre esa base mercantil ya debidamente consolidada, en la década de 1830 la industria aterrizó con fuerza en Málaga. Primero fue la siderúrgica valiéndose de los yacimientos de hierro de Sierra Blanca. La siderurgia malagueña llegó a ser importantísima. Fue aquí donde se instalaron los primeros altos hornos de España gracias a la apuesta que hizo un comerciante riojano llamado Manuel Agustín Heredia que llegó a convertirse en el mayor empresario de España. No fue algo casual, cuando Isabel II ascendió al trono, de Málaga salía el 70% de toda la fundición española. A la siderurgia le seguiría la industria textil, muy vinculada esta a una familia de comerciantes e industriales malagueños bien conocida: los Larios, que terminarían por fundir su nombre con el de la ciudad. Los textiles malagueños se dedicaban al algodón, un cultivo que arraigó bien en Andalucía. El puerto creció y el ferrocarril llegó en 1865 con la finalización de la línea que unía la ciudad con Córdoba y con el resto de la red ferroviaria peninsular. El responsable de traer el ferrocarril fue otro empresario, Jorge Loring, hijo de un comerciante estadounidense que se había establecido en la ciudad formando sociedad con Heredia. La actividad económica trajo prosperidad y oportunidades, y eso redundó en nuevos flujos migratorios hacia la ciudad provenientes del campo andaluz. También posibilitó que se creasen grandes fortunas como los Larios, los Heredia o los Loring, que levantaron vistosas mansiones y edificios decimonónicos en la Alameda para utilizarlos como residencia. Esa aristocracia de la industria y el comercio no tardó en transformarse en aristocracia de sangre y en jugar un papel importante en política. Málaga fue durante el siglo XIX cuna de importantes políticos como Antonio Cánovas del Castillo y de figuras como José María de Salamanca y Mayol, más conocido como marqués de Salamanca, que fue, además de empresario, banquero, inversor, diputado y ministro. De esa Málaga comercial y bulliciosa, la primera en el peligro de la libertad y en los afanes de la industria es de lo que vamos a hablar Alberto Garín y yo en La ContraHistoria de esta semana. Lo vamos a hacer desde la misma Málaga, en el museo Carmen Thyssen cuya sede se encuentra en un bonito palacio del siglo XVI.
