In this episode, Dr. Baron sits down with Rabbi Daniel Fellman, Senior Rabbi of Temple Sinai in Pittsburgh, to discuss his deeply personal experience with loss and fertility challenges. Recorded live in Pittsburgh, this raw and honest conversation explores the unique intersection of communal religious leadership and private grief. Rabbi Fellman shares the story of his and his wife Melissa's fertility journey, navigating a polycystic ovarian syndrome diagnosis, and the heartbreaking loss of one of their fraternal twins at 22 weeks. He describes the painful medical and halakhic choices they faced, the profound "black hole" in Jewish law regarding early infant loss, and how they ultimately managed to save their surviving son, Zach, through an emergency cervical cerclage. The conversation explores the heavy burden of compartmentalizing personal trauma while serving a congregation through their own seasons of grief and joy. Rabbi Fellman opens up about his private moments of wrestling and "rebelling" against God, his family's subsequent experiences with a second trimester miscarriage and raising a child with special needs, and how these collective scars have shaped his life. If you are trying to understand how to hold faith alongside profound loss, or navigating the complicated emotions of pregnancy after loss, this episode is for you.   About Rabbi Fellman: Rabbi Daniel J. Fellman, a native of Omaha, Nebraska, serves as the Senior Rabbi of Temple Sinai. Before joining Temple Sinai in 2021, Rabbi Fellman served as Rabbi at Temple Concord in Syracuse, New York, for 12 years and as Assistant and Associate Rabbi at Ashe Emeth Memorial Temple in New Brunswick, New Jersey, for four years. Rabbi Fellman earned his Master's Degree in Hebrew Letters in 2004 and was ordained by the Hebrew Union College—Jewish Institute of Religion in 2005. His thesis, "An American Friendship: Harry Truman, Eddie Jacobson and the Establishment of the State of Israel," explored the extraordinary friendship of two Americans and the role that relationship played in America's early support for Israel. Rabbi Fellman is a 1996 graduate of Colorado College, where he earned his BA in Political Science and earned the Abel Greg and Lucy Finney Award for religious leadership on campus. In addition to his congregational duties, Rabbi Fellman was named one of the "40 under 40" in Syracuse, served as the chair of the Roundtable of Faith Leaders, and received the Interfaith Leadership Award for his work building civil society. Rabbi Fellman was a Clal Rabbis Without Borders Fellow and is currently a fellow with the Institute for Jewish Spirituality. Rabbi Fellman served as the Jewish Chaplain at Syracuse University for two years, and spent three years as an adjunct instructor at the State University of New York at Cortland where he taught Jewish studies. He resuscitated the Syracuse Board of Rabbis and was an active presence in Jewish community building. He is an Eagle Scout, and was a founder of the Hillel at Colorado College. Ohio faith leaders discuss LGBTQ+ inclusion this Pride month

The Sound of Ideas

How some local religious groups welcome LGBTQ+ members June is Pride Month, an annual celebration honoring LGBTQ+ people, their history and an ongoing movement toward equality. Most celebrations are secular in nature - but there are some religious organizations in Northeast Ohio hosting Pride events this year. For many, religion is a source of belonging and spiritual guidance. But for others, experiences with faith communities have led to rejection, exclusion or religious trauma. Studies from Pew Research Center shows that 80% of LGBTQ adults in the U.S. believe in spirituality and nearly half identify with a religion. Thursday on the "Sound of Ideas," we're bringing together faith leaders to discuss how their congregations engage with LGBTQ people, how they interpret their faith traditions' teachings on sexuality and identity, and what that relationship looks like not just in June, but throughout the year. Guests: - Rev. Dr. George Graham, Pastor, Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ - Shoshana Nyer, Rabbi, Suburban Temple Kol Ami - Fr. Damian Ference, Vicar for Evangelization, The Cathedral Saint John the Evangelist - Rev. Derek Terry, Executive Director, Open and Affirming Coalition and Part-time Pastor, St. Peter's United Church of Christ "Easy Day Away": Chautauqua and Jamestown in New York As the summer gets underway, you might be feeling the urge to travel. But the cost of getting away has gotten more expensive lately, as the U.S. war on Iran continues to squeeze access to oil, driving up the cost of both airfare and gas to fill up our cars. As a result of increasing prices, a survey from US News and World Report released in April showed that 65% of Americans have changed their summer travel plans. For those of you who are being budget-conscious but are still feeling that wanderlust, we're launching a new summer series on Thursday's edition of the "Sound of Ideas" called "Easy Day Away." We'll bring you ideas for simple trips you can take that are within a short drive of Northeast Ohio, and don't require an overnight stay. For our first feature, we're highlighting Jamestown and Chautauqua in New York's Chautauqua County. These two cities are on either side of Chautauqua Lake, both about a two hours' drive east of Cleveland. Jamestown is home to both the Lucille Ball Desi Arnaz Museum and the National Comedy Center, and Chautauqua is known for its Chautauqua Institution, a historic, 750-acre lakeside educational and cultural center. Guests: - Journey Gunderson, Executive Director, National Comedy Center - Gary Hahn, Board Member and Secretary, Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau - Deborah Sunya Moore, Senior Vice President and Chief Program Officer, Chautauqua Institution

Artificial intelligence is no longer only a technology conversation. It is becoming a moral, spiritual, cultural, and civilization-level conversation. In this powerful solo episode of The Clarity Mandate Podcast, Dr. Vivian Atud examines a major turning point in the global AI debate: leading AI companies, including OpenAI and Anthropic, have begun engaging faith leaders to help think through the ethical and moral questions artificial intelligence now raises. Recent reporting confirms that OpenAI and Anthropic participated in the first Faith-AI Covenant roundtable in New York, where religious leaders and technology representatives discussed how moral and ethical principles could shape AI development. Dr. Vivian challenges the faith community not to celebrate the invitation too quickly. Her central argument is clear: being invited into the room is not the same as shaping the blueprint. If people of faith arrive late, unprepared, or without a rigorous framework, they risk being used for credibility rather than becoming true architects of conscience. This episode introduces a strategic framework called The Three Tables:The Compliance Table — where people are invited to check boxes and approve what has already been designed. The Architecture Table — where the deepest questions are asked before the system is built: What is a human being? What is dignity? How should AI treat the vulnerable, the grieving, the child, the worker, and the dying?Dr. Vivian argues that the faith community must move beyond outrage, commentary, and passive concern. The mandate is to become prepared, credentialed, technically literate, morally serious, and strategically present in the design of the systems shaping humanity's future. The episode also references the Athens Summit on Ethics and Artificial Intelligence, where faith and moral leadership were placed directly inside the global AI ethics conversation. At the heart of the episode is a piercing principle:You cannot critique a blueprint you refused to help draw. This episode is a call to leaders, pastors, founders, parents, believers, policymakers, technologists, and people of conscience to stop reacting from the sidelines and start building frameworks strong enough to influence the systems being engineered now. Why AI ethics is becoming a faith and moral leadership issueWhy Silicon Valley is turning to pastors, rabbis, bishops, and faith scholarsThe danger of the faith community arriving late to major technology decisionsWhy moral wisdom without technical literacy loses influenceWhat Dr. Vivian means by The Three Tables of powerWhy the Architecture Table matters more than commentary or complianceHow AI raises questions about grief, death, dignity, vulnerability, and the soulWhy faith leaders need rigorous frameworks, not just feelings or opinionsHow people of faith can move from outrage to strategic influenceWhy “salt and light” must be understood as infrastructure, not passivityAI and faithArtificial intelligence ethicsFaith leaders and AIOpenAI and AnthropicAI governanceChristian leadership and technologyAI and human dignityThe future of the ChurchFaith-based innovationMoral leadershipAI and the soulAI and griefAI and vulnerable peopleTechnology and theologySpiritual leadership in the AI ageThe Three Tables frameworkArchitecture table leadershipFaith and public policyAI ethics and religionChristian AI frameworkPurpose-driven technologyResponsible AIAI and societyDigital discipleshipAI and moral wisdomWhat happens when the builders of the world's most powerful AI systems realize they need moral wisdom — and call faith leaders into the room?In this solo episode of The Clarity Mandate Podcast, Dr. Vivian Atud examines the growing relationship between artificial intelligence and the global faith community. Happy Mother's Day to all of the incredible mothers out there. Today's episode is a deeper conversation about the urgent need for stronger, more biblical men and women in our culture, people willing to stand for truth, protect the vulnerable, and refuse to stay silent in the face of evil.We discuss the ongoing outrage surrounding the Epstein files, the lack of accountability for powerful people, and the broader cultural failure to protect victims from wicked and predatory individuals. But this conversation goes beyond headlines. It's about morality, courage, justice, faith, and what happens when societies stop valuing strong families, strong character, and biblical principles. This episode is ultimately about hope too, because evil does not win forever. Real justice matters, truth matters, and good people still have a responsibility to speak up.

Title: Faith Leaders vs War: Who Stands For Peace? Synopsis: This episode explores the role of faith leaders in times of war, using the Pope's recent call for peace—and the political backlash to it—as a starting point. It then examines how Islam addresses conflict through the Holy Qur'an and the guidance of Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, highlighting that he has consistently called for peace, justice, and global unity for over two decades through international peace conferences and speeches. The discussion draws out shared values between faiths while asking why, despite clear moral guidance, the world continues to choose division over peace. Presenters: Arif Khan & Sufyan Farooqi

She shines a light on the grassroots efforts of mothers mobilizing to help both students and teachers who fear being targeted, and speaks to Reverend Dan Johnson about how his congregation has been impacted as well the very un-Christian nature of this administration's tactics. Then Alex sits down with Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison to talk about how President Trump's rhetoric contributed to the attack on Rep. Episode Overview: In this deeply insightful episode, Jean explore how religious language impacts survivors of childhood sexual abuse. The conversation intricately examines the interfaces between trauma, faith, and the body—challenging common assumptions and inviting listeners to consider the nuanced ways reassurance can help or hinder real healing. ' A brief note for transparency, the structure of this interview was created with the support of AI. While the insights and answers you'll  hear are Jean Dorff's own.' What's Covered in This Episode: - The Body's Response to Disclosure:   Jean shares what happens at a nervous system level when survivors hear religious reassurance after disclosing abuse. Sometimes reassurance is calming, but other times it creates subtle pressure, making survivors feel responsible for the listener's comfort. - Metabolizing Meaning Beyond the Mind:     The hosts discuss why meaning-making isn't purely cognitive—the body itself must have safety and regulation in order to integrate new understandings, especially after trauma. - Moral Labeling and Identity Injury:   Jean reflects on how moral labels (e.g., "dirty," "whore," "bastard") inflict lasting harm, fusing selfhood with trauma and making certain religious reassurances unintentionally reinforcing of shame. - Gender Differences in Trauma and Faith:    The discussion highlights how men and women experience religious frameworks differently in the wake of abuse, with men often lacking permission to recognize harm due to cultural ideals of masculinity. - The Collapse of Belief and Its Impact:    The episode examines what happens when survivors, especially those abused by clergy, lose faith—not only in doctrine but in their communities—leading to significant declines in mental health unless they find safe spaces for doubt. - Threshold Moments and New Meanings:   Jean describes the vulnerable stage when old beliefs fall apart but new ones aren't formed yet, arguing this moment, if properly supported, is pivotal for authentic healing. - Trauma-Informed Spiritual Support:   The conversation centers on ethical, non-directive presence: not pushing for quick resolution, but offering space for survivors' own meaning to develop with safety in mind. - Relief vs. Vitality:     Differentiating between temporary relief (which keeps survivors functioning) and true vitality (which brings a return of aliveness), the episode underscores the importance of moving beyond easy answers. - A Key Reframe for Faith Leaders and Clinicians:     Jean leaves listeners with an essential message: "Religious language is not neutral–it's an intervention. Meaning must follow safety, not precede it." Pausing for safety is where true healing begins. Key Takeaways: - Timing matters: The impact of religious reassurance depends on the survivor's readiness and sense of safety. - The nervous system leads: Healing unfolds when the body is allowed to guide the process, not just the mind. - Authenticity over performance: Survivors need the choice to question and rework their beliefs at their own pace. - Ethical restraint: Faith leaders' ability to tolerate uncertainty is more healing than immediate explanations. Memorable Quote: "Meaning must follow safety, not precede it. If we understood that, much secondary harm would stop—not because faith disappears, but because people learn to wait." – Jean Dorff Thank You for Listening This episode is a must-listen for survivors, clinicians, faith leaders, and anyone interested in trauma and spiritual care. Jean remind us that genuine support comes from presence and patience, not premature reassurance. *The Empowering Story Podcast will be here when you're ready to return.*
