COVID-19 has been challenging in different ways for different people. Some of us are experiencing more isolation and loss than we were. Some of us, especially in industries directly affected by the pandemic, are working harder. And then there are those of us who are caring for children, trying to balance relationships, parenting, jobs and social isolation. This has highlighted the differential effects of child raising on women, who still bear an outsized burden for our home lives. Zibby Owens has interviewed so many women authors for her podcast, Moms Don't Have Time to Read Books. So she was very aware, as a parent herself, of all the things moms don't have time for, especially those things that feed our souls. Her newest compilation, Moms Don't Have Time To: A Quarantine Anthology, gives voice to both the struggles and the triumphs of this most unique time.

I start this episode by reading my essay, ‘What Marie Kondo Taught Me About Life’ … it’s an exploration of what I learned as I downsized, tossed and let go of reams of stuff. Not only were my drawers waaaay more organized and yes, tidy, as a result – my head and heart were lighter too. I felt more appreciative of what I’d kept, and more open to life as I removed the overlayer of stuff. I had the opportunity to chat with and coach the excellent Zibby Owens, a bright, sparkling guest who exudes passion for her subject – books. Zibby’s own podcast, Moms Don’t Have Time to Read Books, interviews authors about the inside scoop behind their books. And she, herself, is a fascinating guest. In our coaching, Zibby and I explored the whole idea of ‘over production’ – do we have to crawl towards the horizon on our knees to be enough to our families, our employers … ourselves? Then I got her to share some hot tips on books and making time read … even when you’re extremely busy.
