Since the 1940s, circus music has been predominantly defined by one song until Matt Margucci entered the scene. Rather than stick solely to creating traditional circus music, Matt created circus music that represented multiple emotions like happiness and fear. Consisting of 260 pieces of music compiled into 20 volumes, the archives received his work in May of 2020 as a loan and will use the collection to educate listeners about the circus and inspire listeners to create something creative and unique. For almost 80 years, Cordell Hall served Oklahoma State University, first as a residence hall, and later as office space for the campus. In early 2018, Cordell Hall was demolished, leaving behind memories from those who called the building home. This month on Amplified Oklahoma, we’re looking back on life in Cordell and the impact it had on its residents. From the Oklahoma Oral History Research Program’s archives, we’ll hear interview excerpts from several alums who lived in Cordell during their time at OSU. Later, the OSU Library’s Head of Archives, David Peters, joins us to talk more about the building’s history and lasting legacy. Everybody has their favorite college story to tell at get-togethers and barbeques. Students from Oklahoma State University's Class of 1959 all have one story in common, the tale of Jimbo the bull. On today’s episode, I’m joined by Hannah Gascho Rempel, a Science Librarian and the Coordinator for Graduate Student Success at Oregon State University Libraries and Press. At Oregon State, she has led the development of OSU Libraries’ services for graduate students and has been deeply involved in the libraries’ Teaching and Engagement Department’s transition to a more strategic focus on learner-centered instruction activities. Her research focuses on research behaviors and curiosity, the intersection of technology use and learning, and providing library services that help promote graduate student success. Hannah has taught Zotero workshops at OSU since 2008 and has created a highly used Zotero tutorial. Cynthia Selfe discusses her experience with OSU's gradual transition to embracing digital scholarship, including the different responses of the OSU Press and the OSU Libraries to the digital environment. She provides several examples of projects from Computers and Composition Digital Press (http://ccdigitalpress.org/) that suggest opportunities for OSU growth in this area. She examines the unique opportunities provided by digital platforms for enhancing the learning experience, sharing knowledge and expanding literacies.
