Since the 1940s, circus music has been predominantly defined by one song until Matt Margucci entered the scene. Rather than stick solely to creating traditional circus music, Matt created circus music that represented multiple emotions like happiness and fear. Consisting of 260 pieces of music compiled into 20 volumes, the archives received his work in May of 2020 as a loan and will use the collection to educate listeners about the circus and inspire listeners to create something creative and unique. On today’s episode, I’m joined by Hannah Gascho Rempel, a Science Librarian and the Coordinator for Graduate Student Success at Oregon State University Libraries and Press. At Oregon State, she has led the development of OSU Libraries’ services for graduate students and has been deeply involved in the libraries’ Teaching and Engagement Department’s transition to a more strategic focus on learner-centered instruction activities. Her research focuses on research behaviors and curiosity, the intersection of technology use and learning, and providing library services that help promote graduate student success. Hannah has taught Zotero workshops at OSU since 2008 and has created a highly used Zotero tutorial. Dr. Alex Bishop from OSU’s College of Human Sciences joins us to discuss the use of oral history interviews in his classes. Finally, writer and director Dr. Julie Pearson-Little Thunder from the Oklahoma Oral History Research Program shares her thoughts on creating performances based on oral history interviews.
