Four friends carried a paralyzed man to Jesus, but when they couldn't get through the crowd, they dug through the roof to lower him down. Jesus first forgave the man's sins, then healed his paralysis, proving his divine authority. This story reveals that faith is often messy and desperate, and Jesus sees our efforts to help others in need. The friends' determination shows us what it means to refuse to give up on someone we love.Support the showVisit communitybrookside.com or facebook.com/communitybrookside for more information!

Jesus' healing over the paralytic man teaches us that God's forgiveness is the greater gift than anything we can experience in this world... even a life free of disability, suffering and loss. This message looks at scripture to give us a proper understanding and a renewed perspective over the pain this world and our bodies can give us.

Every store has an “as-is” section. Items with a flaw, so you buy them “as-is.” People seem to carry an “as-is” label as well – a defect, weakness, or shortcoming. But what if you didn’t have to accept your fate? What if Jesus could help? Maybe a better question: What if God wants you to remove obstacles to get yourself or those you love to Jesus?

When Jesus saw a man who couldn't walk, he didn't just see one big problem, but 2 - and one of his problems was way bigger than the other! In this episode you will hear the story of the Paralytic Man, and discover why Jesus heals the man FIRST and heals him SECOND. For all other episodes and more, check out our website at thewordonthestreetpodcast.com Follow Anna on her Facebook Page here Join The Word On The Street Podcast conversation on our Facebook group here Click here to leave a review on Apple Podcasts Here are the bible verses quoted in today's episode: Bible Passage: Mark 2:1-12 Jesus went back to Capernaum, and a few days later people heard that he was at home. Then so many of them came to the house that there wasn't even standing room left in front of the door. Jesus was still teaching when four people came up, carrying a man on a mat because he could not walk. But because of the crowd, they could not get him to Jesus. So they made a hole in the roof above him and let the man down in front of everyone. When Jesus saw how much faith they had, he said to the man, “My friend, your sins are forgiven.” Some of the teachers of the Law of Moses were sitting there. They started wondering, “Why would he say such a thing? He must think he is God! Only God can forgive sins.” At once, Jesus knew what they were thinking, and he said, “Why are you thinking such things? Is it easier for me to tell this man his sins are forgiven or to tell him to get up and pick up his mat and go on home? I will show you that the Son of Man has the right to forgive sins here on earth.” So Jesus said to the man, “Get up! Pick up your mat and go on home.” The man got right up. He picked up his mat and went out while everyone watched in amazement. They praised God and said, “We have never seen anything like this!” Today's Questions: What are some of the things in your life that you think you need? How important do you think it is to have your sins “fixed” compared to the other things you need?

The Healing of the Paralytic Man - Dr. Ehab Ibrahim by Saint Mary Coptic Orthodox Church, East Brunswick, NJ
In both these cases of healing, we see something marvellous about Jesus: He brings God's freedom, favour, and forgiveness into a broken and desperate world. Are we trusting in this authority for our own forgiveness? Are we trusting in His power to bring healing and hope? How does Jesus' compassion, power, and forgiveness shape our lives as disciples?

We are like the paralyzed man carried to Jesus. We are helpless to do get to Heaven. There is nothing we can do to help ourselves. That is what the paralytic man felt. The Bible tells us to take our burdens to the Lord. But sometimes, we just need a human hand to help carry the load. God places people in our lives to help us make our way to Jesus. Join today's conversation with me, Lisa, and my friend Shaunda as we talk about how, like the paralyzed man, sometimes we need friends to carry us to Jesus. Consequently, when our loved ones are weak, hurting, or lost it's our turn to carry them to Jesus. Tune in! In This Episode, You Will Learn About: [00:00] Episode intro and what's in for you today; Luke 5 [01:22] The secret to Jesus' power -prayer (communion with the Father) [04:38] Healing a paralytic man- verse 17 [07:58] Description of the paralytic man [10:50] Attributes of Jesus we can learn from this [11:30] Who are your best friends who'll take you to Jesus [14:13] God wants our holistic well-being but more of our spiritual health [16:31] Situations where your response to God's calling should be immediate [18:50] Real friends take their friends to Jesus [22:14] Salvation is not “fire insurance.” [24:10] We serve a merciful Saviour [24:50] Calls to action and ending with a word of prayer Notable Quotes: Time spent alone with God is never time spent alone. God is more concerned with our spiritual health than our physical health. When God calls you, obey immediately and figure out later. You can only take someone as far as you are willing to go. The age-old saying rings true today - “Be careful the company that you keep.” Our friends are the ones who influence us, help shape us, and walk with us through the highs and lows of life. We have said several times in this series that you need your people. But how can we know if our people are pointing us towards Jesus or sending us the other way? In the Bible, we see an example of each of these extremes: the friends of Job and the friends of the Paralytic Man. So which friend group should we try to emulate? Join Pastors Chad, Matt, and Adam for a discussion as they compare and contrast these two groups of friends and learn how we can lean on others and be available for others to lean on in times of need.
