Do your students struggle to retain skills from one unit to the next? You're not alone. In this episode, I explored why standards mastery often feels out of reach for middle school ELA teachers and uncovered the planning habits that may be standing in the way. I discussed three common beliefs that prevent students from achieving true mastery and introduced the Into, Through, and Beyond Framework—a simple but powerful approach to curriculum design that prioritizes retention over coverage. You'll discover:✅ Why teaching a skill once isn't enough for mastery✅ The difference between covering content and teaching for retention✅ How spiraling content helps students build lasting skills✅ Why rinse-and-repeat activities save time and improve learning✅ How to create a curriculum that feels intentional instead of reactiveWhether you're building your own curriculum or navigating a district-mandated program, this episode will help you rethink the way you plan so your students can experience deeper learning and long-term success.

Send Sherry a Text MessageWhen life hurts, where do you turn?Food. Busyness. Social media. Serial dating. Avoiding the hard things. We all have our "fix"- something that helps numb the pain, distract us from reality, or make us feel better for a moment. But what happens when the fix isn't fixing anything? In this heartfelt and honest episode of It's a Single Mom Thing, Sherry explores the difference between temporary relief and lasting healing. Building on last week's episode, Healing Is an Assignment, she dives into the coping mechanisms we often reach for when life feels overwhelming and asks a powerful question:Can I trust God with the places I've been trying to manage myself?Through personal reflections, practical insights, and biblical encouragement, you'll discover why some fixes quietly become substitutes for God, why healing requires surrender, and how true freedom begins when we stop managing our pain and allow God to transform it.If you've ever found yourself running back to old patterns, struggling to let go, or wondering why healing feels so hard, this episode is for you.Because painkillers have a purpose.Band-aids have a purpose. But eventually the wound has to be cleaned if it's going to heal. You want God's best? Forget the rest. Let Him fix your fix.Resources Mentioned:

The decisions change. The trajectory changes. What summit are you chasing? Drop it in the comments.

What does it really mean to win in life—and why do so many high-achievers still feel like they're falling short? In this episode of I Dare You, I'm joined by Chip Pugh, Team Chaplain for the Tennessee Titans and author of Made to Win: Six Practices of Jesus for Life on Mission. Exclusive for I Dare You Podcast listeners, you can get your FREE copy of Made To Win and you only cover the cost of shipping. Click the link to get your copy!https://oakspress.com/dare Chip has spent decades developing athletes, coaches, and leaders—serving in collegiate athletics, strength and conditioning, and leadership development roles (including at Tennessee Tech University)—and he brings a clear, practical framework for maximizing your potential. You'll learn why so many people never experience the joy of winning (because they were never trained to win), how to quiet the “distracting voices” that derail your calling, and why community isn't optional if you want a life that's strong, resilient, and mission-driven. Chip also shares a simple daily prayer and challenge that can change how you see people—and how you show up in the world. In this conversation, you'll learn: The 3-part pathway to winning: expect, aim, and train Why identity comes before purpose—and how your words shape both How to discern truth when doubt and adversity hit The “life huddle” principle: why you need a few people who truly know you The practice of “Invest in the One”—and the daily habit that brings purpose into focus Chip's message is direct, practical, and deeply encouraging—whether faith is central to your life right now or you're simply searching for what you were made for. Here's the prayer you pray (the “one daily prayer” from your Chip Pugh episode script): Lord, give me the eyes to see what You see today. Prepare my hands to do what You have designed me to do. Prepare my feet to go where You send me. Please send me to the one who is ready to follow You… and fill me with the skill to win them to You. In Jesus' name, Amen. What happens when you choose to completely abandon a life of "quiet desperation" and trust the invisible, benevolent forces guiding your gut? In this returning-guest episode of the Miles to Zen podcast, host Shannon Miles Halliday sits down with men's intuition coach Doug Beitz Doug shares his deeply personal journey from witnessing his father's unfulfilled life to breaking the cycle himself. He reveals how he went from serving as a professional firefighter to building an 18-room tropical scuba dive resort in the middle of Micronesia—and later, making global headlines by successfully selling it via a viral worldwide raffle. This conversation dives deep into the practical biology of intuition, spiritual frameworks like the Gene Keys, and the sheer courage it takes to leap when the universe gives you green lights but shows you no road. Key Takeaways • Practical Tools to Train Your Gut Instincts Actionable advice on vocalizing desires to the universe, utilizing sleep intentions (writing notes under your pillow), and letting go of the need to control others. • The Biology of Intuition: Diet, Energy Clearing, and Pendulums How the acid-alkaline balance, Gene Keys, nature immersion, and biofeedback tools (like pendulums) literally alter your body's physical frequency to pick up intuitive signals. • Butterfly Signs & Real-World Synchronicities Doug and Shannon trade incredible, true stories of how paying attention to physical signs in the wild—like circling butterflies—averted near-disasters and confirmed massive life choices. Memorable Quotes "What's more scary for me... is me getting to 60 and saying two words: If only. If only I tried." — Doug Beitz "All of a sudden, the lights went green—and there wasn't just three lights, there were 75 green lights. But when I looked ahead, there was no road. It was like a cliff... I realised the road was invisible, but it was still there." — Doug Beitz Connect with Shannon Miles Halliday: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/milestozen/ Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@milestozen Podcast Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/the-miles-to-zen-podcast-with-shannon-miles-halliday/id1790460448 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3EjVDgfTg9yc5m29sKMXzQ Buzzsprout: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2440331 Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/shannonhalliday/ Connect with Doug Beitz: Email: info@dougbeitz.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dougbeitz/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dougbeitz/ Website: https://buymeacoffee.com/dougbeitz Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6mQ258nugC3lyw3SpvYuoK?si=7cec409527d34438 Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/intuitive-conversations-with-doug/id1593172364 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/doug-beitz-472a4b338/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@dougbeitz178

Ever feel like you start summer with the best intentions and somehow end August feeling like your body is completely working against you? The scale is up, your energy is crashed, your cravings are spiraling, and you have no idea why. Here is what nobody is telling you: summer does not just change your schedule. It changes your cortisol, your sleep, your eating patterns, and your body's signals. And most women have no idea it is happening. In this episode, I am pulling back the curtain on exactly why your metabolism works against you every summer specifically, not just in general, but the summer-specific patterns that are quietly slowing your fat loss down. We are talking about why saving your calories for nighttime is destroying your metabolism, why grinding through intense workouts in the summer heat is making things worse not better, and why the chaos and stress of summer is one of the biggest metabolic disruptors of the entire year. These are the exact patterns I lived as a camp counselor, starving myself all day and binging at night, and exactly what changed when I finally understood what summer was actually doing to my body. The same shift that helped me lose 65 pounds and keep it off for 16 years through every summer since.Your metabolism is not broken. Summer is just harder on it than any other season. In this episode, Tom Eston and Kevin Tackett explain why that matters, why insecure SMS is not going away anytime soon, and why Signal is still the better choice for truly sensitive conversations. They also revisit the green bubble versus blue bubble debate, platform trust issues, and what everyday users should understand before assuming every text message is private. In this episode of Idle Talk, Tom and Ashley from King's Auto Repair cover real world issues local drivers are dealing with right now: - Why buying a used car with the check engine light on is almost never a “quick sensor fix” - How catalytic converter failures (and theft attempts) are hitting wallets and what you can do to reduce your risk - A listener question about a stuck seatbelt, how the locking mechanism works, and when it's time for replacement - A practical discussion of oil leaks how shops trace them, when they're urgent, and how one leak can trigger other drivability/emissions problems - A call-in conversation about loud exhaust, inspection enforcement, headlight alignment, and illegal lighting mods These topics are great reminders that small “annoyances” (lights, smells, leaks, noises) often point to bigger issues—and that a trusted shop inspection can save drivers from expensive surprises. Key Takeaways - Never buy a used car with the check engine light on. If it were truly “just an O₂ sensor,” it likely would've been repaired before sale. A check engine light can indicate expensive emissions failures (like catalytic converters) or deeper engine performance problems. - Pre-purchase inspections catch what Carfax can miss. Carfax is helpful, but it depends on reporting. Repairs paid out-of-pocket or not processed through insurance may not show up. A shop inspection can spot clues like panel work, welding, rust bubbles, and underside damage. - Catalytic converters are costly (and theft is real). Converters contain precious metals, which drives both replacement costs and theft attempts. Even a “failed” converter can be valuable to thieves. - Seatbelt retractors can lock up, sometimes it's a mechanism issue, not a “broken belt.” Seatbelts can get stuck in child seat ratchet mode or jam internally. If it won't retract/unlock, don't force it especially if pretensioners are involved. - Oil leaks aren't just messy, they can trigger check engine lights and damage components. A PCV system fault can pull oil into the intake, contaminate emissions components, and create driveability issues. Oil can also drift and spread underhood, making the true source harder to find. - Diagnosis often starts with cleaning. For heavy oil leaks, the first step is frequently cleaning the area, running the engine, and re-checking sometimes using cardboard/drip tracing to narrow down leak origin. - “They sell it online” doesn't mean it's legal. The show touches on illegal lighting colors (blue hue), headlight alignment concerns, exhaust modifications, and wheels protruding beyond fenders issues that affect safety and legality. N101 Nitric Oxide Toothpaste (code AZADI for 10% off + free shipping when you add lozenges): https://bit.ly/4u6Mfkf Keto Flex Revised by Ben Azadi (pre-order now, releases July 21st, includes exclusive bonus chapters as a downloadable PDF): https://bit.ly/4wKG1sM You brush, you floss, you rinse, and tartar still keeps coming back. The real reason has almost nothing to do with how hard you're brushing. In this episode, Ben breaks down why plaque keeps returning and the simple nighttime protocol that changes your mouth's environment so tartar stops forming in the first place. What you'll learn: The NIH reports the average adult hosts 50 to 100 billion bacterial cells in their mouth at any given time. When biofilm isn't disrupted fast enough, minerals in your saliva harden and cement it onto your enamel. Full mineralization happens in as little as 48 to 72 hours. The 5 daily mistakes making tartar worse: frequent snacking and hidden sugars, chronic dry mouth, harsh toothpaste and mouthwash that destroys nitric oxide-producing bacteria, ignoring biofilm in the zones your toothbrush can't reach, and a chronically acidic mouth from coffee, sparkling water, wine, and citrus. The 5-step nighttime fix: floss before brushing, switch to a microbiome-supportive toothpaste, skip rinsing with water after brushing, keep water on your nightstand and consider mouth taping, and support nitric oxide production before bed with greens, beet juice, or a nitric oxide lozenge. Bonus: tongue scraping morning and night supports nitric oxide production and keeps bacteria in check. The boys are back in a new rotating format and they came loaded. GMoney walks the crew through why 100% of your tax dollars have been absorbed by debt interest since 1982, courtesy of the Reagan-era Grace Commission, and makes the case that Bitcoin is not just a hedge but the exit ramp from the entire system. The GoFundMe government theory gets its fullest airing yet, touching on tokenization, open capital markets, the Clarity Act, and why Jamie Dimon is absolutely losing his mind. In between the macro theory, a Texas Bitcoin mine noise psyop gets debunked, CISA somehow posted its own passwords to GitHub for six months, and a former Mossad chief casually admits Israel has booby-trapped equipment in every country you can imagine. Then Canada decides to institutionalize a man for handing out pamphlets to MPs. Trump's physical exam drops: 30 out of 30 cognitive score, bruised hands from too many handshakes, and apparently looks 14 years younger than he is. The New York Giants also accidentally became a metaphor for America.
The guys react to the viral audio of J.J. McCarthy's frosty comments about Kyler Murray and question the chemistry within the Vikings' quarterback room. They debate the NBA's new lottery system designed to curb tanking and explore Major League Baseball's controversial salary cap proposal. The discussion also covers Daniel Jones' new relationship and the psychological impact of finishing immersive video games.
0:00 - What's worse? Knowing what you need to do to fix your roster, but not being able to do it because of cap/CBA contraints? Or having a great roster that fell short and not knowing what you're supposed to do with it? Could we possibly be talking about 2 teams in this town?13:22 - The NBA officially approved a "solution" that's going to "fix" the tanking "issue" that's plaguing the league! Here's the thing though. It's super convoluted, bloated, and no one really understands what's going on. And again...more importantly...it STILL DOESN'T FIX THE PROBLEM! How are we still doing this??35:09 - Oh, by the way...the MLB tentatively proposed a hard salary cap and a spending floor. Unsurprisingly, the MLBPA didn't like the proposal. Strap in, y'all. There will be no baseball played in 2027. We're 1000% headed for a lockout.Oh, by the way...SEC Commissioner said the Cupcake Scheduling Week is officially over. Sorry, Alabama. You don't get to host North Arkansas Tech Community College the week before the Iron Bowl anymore.

This week we sat down with menopause and mental fitness coach Sara Larson to cut through the noise around midlife, from quick‑fix promises and supplement stacks to rigid “shoulds” about how we're supposed to look, feel, and age, and offer better solutions for navigating this challenging transition. Drawing on her own brutal perimenopause—crushing joint pain, brain fog so bad she joined an Alzheimer's study, suffocating anxiety and depression—Sara shares how she went from feeling like everything was coming apart to becoming a menopause navigator, helping women walk into the doctor's office “ready,” advocate for themselves, and understand their treatment plans. We dig into grief, weight gain and body image, the spiritual and identity unraveling of menopause, and the grounding power of outdoor experiences that reconnect you with strength and embodiment. This is a conversation about gentleness as strength and learning to ask for something different in the second half of life.Sara Larson is a menopause life coach, educator, and speaker who helps women cut through misinformation and access evidence-based menopause care. She specializes in advocacy, education, and community-building, supporting women through perimenopause and postmenopause with clarity, confidence, and a healthy sense of humor. Your Retrospective Never Actually Fixes the Alignment ProblemThe retrospective is one of the most protected ceremonies in agile. Scrum teams hold it every sprint. SAFe bakes it into every iteration. Coaches run workshops on how to run better ones. And yet, the same misalignment issues resurface sprint after sprint. This isn't a facilitation problem. It isn't a psychological safety problem. It is a structural mismatch: teams are applying a periodic, backward-looking review to a continuous, structural problem. How to connect with AgileDad:- [website] https://www.agiledad.com/- [instagram] https://www.instagram.com/agile_coach/- [facebook] https://www.facebook.com/RealAgileDad/- [Linkedin] https://www.linkedin.com/in/leehenson/

What happens when AI agents can not only write mobile app code, but also validate their own work automatically? In this episode, I sit down with Maestro Co-founder and CEO Leland Takamine to explore one of the biggest shifts happening in software testing right now: agentic mobile testing. Leland shares how his team went from solving mobile performance testing challenges to building one of the fastest-growing mobile automation frameworks used by companies like Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, and DoorDash. We dive deep into: How AI coding agents are changing mobile testing workflows What "closing the agentic feedback loop" actually means Why deterministic testing still matters in the age of AI How Maestro MCP lets AI agents validate mobile app changes automatically Why mobile test maintenance may finally become manageable The future role of testers as AI-generated code explodes Leland also gives a live demo showing an AI agent building, validating, debugging, and generating a reusable mobile test completely autonomously. If you care about AI testing, mobile automation, MCP servers, or the future of QA engineering, this episode will likely change how you think about testing workflows over the next few years. Veronique de Rugy critiques government-matched savings plans like the "Trump IRA." She argues these technocratic fixes add to the national debt without addressing core tax code flaws. Have you noticed how the more we're connected by the internet and have all these gadgets, the lonelier we get? The things we thought would bring us together are actually making us more isolated than ever. That is the conversation I had with Dr. Laurie Santos. She is a Yale professor, an expert on happiness, and the woman behind Psychology and the Good Life, the most popular class Yale has ever offered. She also hosts her own hit podcast, The Happiness Lab, focused on the science of feeling good. In this episode, Dr. Laurie breaks down why English-speaking countries are quietly getting unhappier, why manifesting the reward actually makes you less likely to chase it, and why the expert on gratitude herself doesn't love gratitude journaling. She explains the neuroscience of wanting versus liking, why self-care has quietly become self-indulgence, and the mindset shifts that matter more than any routine, supplement, or practice on the internet. She also gets into why doomscrolling is stealing more from you than your time, the two parts of happiness you actually need both of, and the simple habits the research supports when every trendy protocol around you does not. If you have been doing everything you are supposed to do and still feel off, this episode might confirm something you've known about yourself and your happiness for a long time. What's Discussed: (01:30) How Dr. Laurie ended up at Yale teaching the most popular class in the school's history. (04:15) Why happiness is a skill you practice, not a personality trait you are born with. (07:40) The two kinds of happiness most people confuse and why you need both. (11:05) Why money past a certain number stops making you any happier. (14:30) The science behind why paraplegics and lottery winners end up at the same happiness baseline. (18:20) Why comparison is the single biggest thief of happiness in modern life. (22:10) Why the silver medalist looks more miserable than the bronze medalist. (26:45) Why non-English speakers are happier according to studies. (31:20) The dopamine trap of social media and why you crave what you don't even like. (35:50) Why your phone is the Nutrasweet of real connection. (40:15) Why boredom is the skill modern kids are losing and why it matters. (44:30) The shock study that reveals how uncomfortable we have become with our own thoughts. (49:10) Why the gratitude expert herself doesn't vibe with gratitude journaling. (52:40) Dr. Laurie's alternative to gratitude that actually sticks. (57:05) Why self-compassion beats self-criticism for every single goal you have. (1:01:30) Why self-care is not a bubble bath and what it actually looks like. (1:06:15) The research that shows manifestation is making you less likely to get what you want. (1:10:40) The WOOP framework and why it is the version of manifesting that actually works. (1:15:20) Why work-life balance is the wrong goal and what to aim for instead. (1:19:45) What Dr. Laurie tells her students to do in just ten minutes a day to feel happier. Jason argues that both the new proposal for the NBA's anti-tanking rules and the expansion of the NCAA Tournament will lead to the elimination of consequences. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver fails to recognize that the NBA Draft Lottery does not impose genuine consequences on teams. Jason suggests implementing penalties for teams that do not make the playoffs, such as fining the team owner, team president, general manager, head coach, and assistant coaches. Steve Kim joins the discussion to talk about the decline of the NBA and the implications of the NCAA Tournament changes. They also cover several other topics, including whether LeBron James and the Lakers will eliminate the Rockets tonight, Shaq's embrace of Victor Wembanyama, and reports that Mike Tomlin could replace Mike Vrabel in New England. Finally, Danny Kanell joins the show to discuss Brendan Sorsby's gambling controversy, the NCAA's tournament expansion, and reactions to the NFL Draft.
