Continuing through the book of Acts, Pastor Luke focuses on the beginning of Paul's third missionary journey, where the emphasis shifts from simply planting churches to strengthening the disciples already in them. The big idea driving the sermon is that the gospel doesn't just save — it transforms every part of our lives. Pastor Luke illustrates this first through the story of Apollos, a brilliantly educated man from Alexandria who nonetheless lacked a full understanding of the gospel. When Priscilla and Aquila — ordinary tentmakers — took him aside privately and explained the way of God more accurately, Apollos humbly received their correction. That humility, Pastor Luke argues, is what made him teachable, and his teachability is what made him wise and ultimately one of the most impactful teachers in the early church. The second half of the sermon turns to the Ephesian believers and the contrast between genuine and counterfeit spirituality. When the seven sons of Sceva tried to invoke Jesus's name as a spiritual technique without any real relationship with Him, they were overpowered and publicly shamed. The Ephesian believers, by contrast, responded to what they witnessed with deep repentance — publicly confessing their practices and burning their magic books, valued at the equivalent of several million dollars. Pastor Luke draws a clear line between syncretism — treating Jesus as one spiritual resource among many — and true discipleship, which declares Jesus as Lord alone. He closes by calling the congregation to ongoing repentance and surrender, reminding them that transformation isn't a one-time event but a lifelong process powered by Christ Himself.

TRIGGER WARNING! Many people have asked to hear more of Fred's story. In this episode, he opens up about parts of his life he doesn't often share publicly. This episode of Draw Near contains adult themes; we do not recommend listening in the presence of children. Through an honest conversation with Kara, Fred reflects on his childhood, the hardships he experienced, and the wounds throughout his early life. He shares why he often says, "I shouldn't be alive," and how there were moments when his future seemed uncertain. Yet this episode is about far more than suffering or past wounds. Looking back, Fred can now see how Christ was present even in the darkest seasons: through unexpected people, quiet moments of grace, and circumstances that helped lead him toward healing and faith. What once seemed like random events now reveal a story of God's providence and relentless pursuit. In this episode, we discuss: Fred's childhood and family experiences The challenges and wounds that marked his early years Why he says he "shouldn't be alive" The lasting impact of suffering and brokenness Where Christ was present throughout the journey How God works even when we cannot see Him The path that eventually led Fred to deeper faith and conversion Hope for anyone who feels trapped by their past Whether your story is marked by loss, pain, disappointment, or unanswered questions, this conversation is a reminder that God is never absent. He is often working in ways we cannot yet understand. As Jesus says in the Parable of the Prodigal Son (and Kara referenced in the episode): "For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found." (Luke 15:24) No wound is beyond Christ's reach. No story is beyond redemption. *Resources Mentioned * OCIA curriculum from Ascension: INVITED Webinar The Surrender Journal *Listen Next * If this episode resonates with you, consider listening to Fred's other testimony episodes, where he shares more about his conversion, his Catholic faith, and the ways God continues to work in his life today. When a difficult situation hits, where do you turn first—your own problem-solving, other people, or the Lord? In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef challenges a common habit: trusting our minds to carry us through life, then “withdrawing” our surrender the moment God's way feels inconvenient. God gave us minds to use, but He calls us to humble ourselves before the One who created them. There will be moments when only God's wisdom can lead to the right solution—and no problem is too great for Him, even when you feel trapped by circumstances. Dr. Youssef offers a memorable picture: just as an investment account can't mature with constant withdrawals, your faith struggles to grow when you repeatedly take back control after “depositing” your life into God's hands. Surrender is not passive resignation—it is trusting God enough to let Him do His deepest work in you: transforming your heart and mind into the likeness of Christ. If you're wrestling with control, uncertainty, or the need to “fix it,” this devotional will help you rest in the most trustworthy truth of all: there is no one you can trust more than the Son of God. Prayer: Lord, I want You to be in control of my life today, leading me through Your Holy Spirit. Help me to submit to You daily. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6). Kingdom Activation of Remnant Ministry – Foundational Issues Part 1 | KIB 535 Kingdom Intelligence Briefing Description Are you ready for what God is about to release in the earth? In this powerful episode of the Kingdom Intelligence Briefing, Dr. Michael and Mary Lou Lake explore the spiritual preparation necessary for the activation of remnant ministry in the last days. As darkness increases and many believers struggle with discouragement and hopelessness, God is calling His people to deeper faith, greater endurance, and unwavering covenant fidelity. Mary Lou begins by addressing the enemy's strategy to attack God's calling on your life from the very beginning. She shares biblical encouragement for overcoming hopelessness and maintaining confidence in God's promises even during seasons of tribulation. Dr. Lake then dives deep into the biblical meaning of belief, revealing that true faith is far more than a one-time decision. Through an examination of John 3:16, Abraham's journey of faith, and the teachings of the New Testament, he demonstrates that genuine belief produces transformation, endurance, obedience, and spiritual maturity. This episode also examines: The difference between easy-believism and biblical faith Why God is preparing remnant believers for Kingdom assignments The necessity of covenant faithfulness in the last days How Babylonian systems have distorted ministry models The importance of returning to the biblical patterns found in the Book of Acts Why believers must develop spiritual discernment in an age of deception and AI-driven confusion The transition from being servants of God to becoming His trusted friends As God begins activating His remnant, it is crucial that believers build their lives upon biblical foundations rather than worldly systems. This message will challenge, encourage, and equip you for the days ahead. What helps you stay grounded when life gets difficult? In this episode of Perspectives, Rev. Drs. Hannah and Brittany of First United Methodist Church of San Diego explore Luke 6:43-49 and Jesus' powerful images of trees, fruit, and firm foundations. Together, they discuss how faith is formed long before life's storms arrive—and why spiritual growth is less about avoiding hardship and more about developing the resilience to face it. The female pastors ultimately ask: What if discipleship isn't a "cost" to be paid, but a spiritual gym where we build the strength, courage, wisdom, and grounding needed to weather life's challenges? This progressive Christian conversation explores: Building faith for difficult times Faith as formation rather than achievement Why Jesus promises storms, not storm-free lives The connection between our inner life and outward actions Spiritual growth as a lifelong practice, not a one-time event Move from control to trust, certainty to surrender Discipleship being a rooting, grounding, and deepening rather than a “cost to be paid” Reflection Questions: What habits or influences are shaping the condition of my heart? Questions? Comments? Text Us!In this deeply personal installment of What's Your Spiritual Story, Jerry L. Martin speaks with Dr. Stephen Spector, professor of English, scholar of religion and literature, and author, for a profound conversation about spiritual experience, suffering, miracles, the Bible, and the changing nature of God.Spector recounts the moment that transformed his life forever. At fifteen years old, after his mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer and given only weeks to live, he made a bargain with God. What followed would shape his spiritual life, his understanding of faith, and his lifelong relationship with scripture.Drawing from his background in medieval literature, biblical interpretation, psychology, and Jewish thought, Dr. Spector explores the Bible not only as sacred text, but as a living literary and psychological journey. Together, he and Jerry discuss Genesis, trauma, forgiveness, Jewish identity, evangelical support for Israel, Jewish-Christian dialogue, Ethiopian Jews, Isaac's suffering, the problem of evil, and the surprising idea that God may grow and change through relationship with humanity. This episode is thoughtful, intellectually rich, emotionally honest, and deeply human — ideal for listeners interested in spirituality, theology, religion, philosophy, biblical interpretation, spiritual transformation, and the search for meaning. What does it mean to wrestle with God? Have you ever found yourself replaying someone else's words, assuming they were judging you? Or maybe you've caught yourself criticizing someone in your mind, convinced you're seeing the situation clearly. If so, you're not alone. This week on The Love Offering Podcast, I sat down with my friend Shannon Popkin to discuss her new book, Kinda Judgy: Finding Mercy for Myself and Others in Six Stories of the Bible. Together, we explored a topic that many of us struggle with but rarely talk about openly—judgment. What if the criticism we feel from others is often rooted in our own insecurities? What if the harsh standards we apply to others reveal places in our own hearts that need God's healing mercy? Through powerful stories like Jonah, the thief on the cross, and the woman caught in adultery, Shannon reminds us that while God is a righteous Judge, He is also abundantly merciful. His mercy changes how we see ourselves and how we see others. One of my favorite takeaways from our conversation was this: we often feel judged and become judgy in response. But Jesus shows us a different way. Though He was wrongly judged, He responded with compassion, forgiveness, and grace. In this episode, you'll discover: • Why judgment and insecurity are often connected• How contempt quietly damages our relationships• What Jonah's story reveals about our own hearts• How God's mercy transforms the way we treat others• Why the cross is the ultimate picture of love and compassion Friend, if you've ever struggled with being critical of yourself or others, this conversation will encourage you and point you back to the heart of God. People are looking for something that is making a difference, and having knowledge of Biblical truth does not make a difference unless we are applying it to our lives. When God's Word is made known to us and we take further steps of application, transformation takes place and others see that and are pointed to God.

Martin explores the idea that humanity may be entering a New Axial Age: a new era of spiritual transformation shaped by globalization, interreligious encounter, and expanding spiritual consciousness.Drawing from philosopher Karl Jaspers, Wilfred Cantwell Smith, Robert Bellah, and Theology Without Walls, he reflects on whether the world's religions represent competing systems of belief or different dimensions of divine revelation.Beginning with the remarkable story of Saint Josaphat — a Christian saint whose story traces back to the Buddha — this episode explores “religion in the singular,” mystical experience, comparative religion, and the possibility that spiritual truth has always moved dynamically across cultures and traditions. What happens when inherited religious boundaries begin to loosen? Today, Michael welcomes Dr. Ilyasah Shabazz. Ilyasah is an award-winning author, educator, and social impact leader dedicated to advancing the legacy of her parents, Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz, through literature, public scholarship, and community leadership. She serves as Chairperson of the Malcolm X & Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center and teaches at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and Worcester State University. Ilyasah is the author of several acclaimed books, including Growing Up X and X: A Novel, and her latest release, Malcolm in the Desert: Wisdom from the Spiritual Transformation of Malcolm X, which explores her father's spiritual evolution, pilgrimage to Mecca, and enduring message of compassion, consciousness, and liberation. Conversation Highlights Include: -Why this moment in history called for a deeper exploration of Malcolm X's spiritual transformation, compassion, and evolving understanding of humanity. -A powerful reframe of Malcolm X not only as a revolutionary leader, but as a deeply spiritual seeker whose activism was rooted in love and moral courage. -How Malcolm's pilgrimage to Mecca expanded an already compassionate heart and transformed the way humanity, race, and liberation were understood. -An inspiring reflection on Dr. Betty Shabazz and the strength, resilience, and devotion it took to raise six daughters after an unimaginable personal loss. -A conversation about pilgrimage not simply as travel, but as an inner journey of slowing down, asking deeper questions, and remembering who we truly are. -How sacred disruption often arrives through grief, uncertainty, divorce, loss, or major life transitions that force us to grow beyond the familiar. -A moving exploration of grief as a messenger that strips away the illusion of control and invites surrender, healing, and transformation. -An honest conversation about surrender as a practice of deep listening that helps people stop resisting reality and begin evolving through it. Next, Michael closes the episode with a guided meditation on self-examination, awakening from unconscious living, reconnecting with your True nature, and living with spiritual intention. Please note: This episode was recorded prior to Ilyasah's book's release; the launch event mentioned has since taken place, coinciding with a special celebration honoring her father's legacy.

Ascension energy can bring up emotions, reactions, and patterns that feel difficult to process in the moment. Many people talk about integration, but few truly understand what it means or how to apply it when they are triggered. In this episode, I break down what integration actually is and how to approach these moments differently. I also share a simple shift you can use in real time to move through what's coming up with more stability and awareness.
In this episode, we sit down with our friend and fellow coach, Tim Austin, to explore what it really looks like to navigate a major life transition—especially when it involves calling, identity, and purpose.Tim shares his journey of spending 20 years overseas as a missionary and the unexpected challenges of returning home. What does it feel like to leave behind a place, a role, and a sense of purpose that defined so much of your life? We talk honestly about the loss, the uncertainty, and the deep identity questions that come with that kind of shift. We also explore the tension between urgency and trust—how easy it is to want immediate clarity, and how important it is to slow down, breathe, and allow space for God to lead. Tim opens up about the “in-between” season, where he stepped into a role he didn't expect, and how that became a meaningful part of his journey into coaching. This conversation is especially for anyone walking through transition—whether you're leaving a career, stepping out of ministry, or simply sensing that something new is unfolding. We reflect on how nothing is wasted, how past experiences shape future purpose, and how living on mission can look different in every season. We hope this episode encourages you to trust the process, embrace the unknown, and stay open to what might be possible next.FREE RESOURCES:Tim Austinhttps://www.encompasslifecoaching.com/tim@encompasslifecoaching.comListen to our sister podcast the REALIFE Practice Podcast on your Favorite Podcast AppTake the FREE Intro to Needs & Values AssessmentReady to discover what uniquely matters to YOU? In today's episode, we're having a real and honest conversation about something that doesn't get talked about enough—the hidden costs of coaching. When I first started coaching, I thought it was mostly about showing up for sessions and having meaningful conversations. And while that's absolutely part of it, there's so much more happening behind the scenes. In this episode, Erica and I unpack three key areas that every coach—whether you're just starting or growing your practice—needs to understand:✨ The emotional and mental energy it takes to truly hold space for others✨ The time commitment beyond the session itself (prep, follow-up, scheduling, and more) ✨ The financial realities of building and sustaining a coaching businessWe also talk about capacity, boundaries, and how to steward your time and energy in a way that allows you to show up well—not just for your clients, but for your life. This isn't about discouraging you—it's about equipping you with the truth so you can build something sustainable, meaningful, and aligned with your calling. If you've ever wondered, “What is coaching really like day in and day out?”—this conversation is for you.FREE RESOURCES:Listen to our sister podcast the REALIFE Practice Podcast on your Favorite Podcast AppTake the FREE Intro to Needs & Values AssessmentReady to discover what uniquely matters to YOU? In today's episode, Erica and I sat down to have a really honest conversation about a question we hear all the time:Can you actually make money as a coach? We didn't hold back in this one. We talked about the real journey—from feeling called to help people, to realizing that coaching isn't just a skill… it's also a business.I shared from my own experience of building multiple businesses over the years and how coaching eventually became the expression of both my calling and my entrepreneurial wiring. Erica brought such a grounded perspective as well, especially around what sustainability can look like in different seasons of life.We explored the difference between simply having coaching skills and actually building something that generates income. Because the truth is—those are two very different things. We also talked about:Why most coaches need more than one income streamHow your season of life impacts your business modelWhat “full-time” really means todayThe importance of investing in yourself as a coachAnd why you don't have to have it all figured out to startOne thing I want you to hear clearly: Yes, you can make money as a coach. But it's not a one-size-fits-all path, and it does require intention, learning, and growth over time.If you're in a place of wondering whether this could be something more for you, I hope this conversation gives you both clarity and courage to take your next step.FREE RESOURCES:Listen to our sister podcast the REALIFE Practice Podcast on your Favorite Podcast AppTake the FREE Intro to Needs & Values AssessmentReady to discover what uniquely matters to YOU? 3.8.2026 - Spiritual Tools for Spiritual Transformation - Sabbath - Mark 2:23-28 by Anacostia River Church
Your Life Follows Your Focus: The Secret to Spiritual Transformation What you focus on shapes the person you become. In this episode of the Rob Skinner Podcast, Rob shares a powerful lesson from Hebrews 12 about the importance of fixing our eyes on Jesus. Drawing from a recent sermon in Boston, Rob explains how attention is one of the most important forces shaping our spiritual lives. Your mind, your habits, and even your character are shaped by what consistently captures your attention. In a world where countless voices are competing for your focus—social media, news, comparison, anxiety, and success—the Bible offers a simple but life-changing command: Fix your eyes on Jesus. Rob shares a fascinating story about a friend who learned fluent English simply by watching American television growing up in Venezuela. By listening and imitating what he repeatedly saw and heard, his mind adapted and his speech transformed. The same principle applies spiritually. When our attention stays fixed on Christ—His character, His words, and His example—we begin to absorb His humility, courage, and love. Transformation doesn't happen by accident. It happens when we intentionally direct our attention toward Jesus. Rob also explores a powerful passage from 2 Corinthians 3:18, where Paul describes how believers are transformed into Christ's image as they contemplate the glory of the Lord. In a culture that constantly fights for your attention, learning to focus on Jesus may be one of the most important spiritual disciplines you can develop. If you want to grow spiritually and become more like Christ, it starts with a simple decision: Choose what you focus on. Key Scripture Hebrews 12:2 "Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith." 2 Corinthians 3:18 "And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory." Practical Challenge This week, try a simple exercise: Spend intentional time reading passages that focus directly on Jesus and the character of God. Slow down. Reflect on what those passages reveal about Christ. Let them reshape the way you see God. Because your life truly follows your focus. Support the Podcast If this episode encouraged you: • Subscribe to Rob's weekly newsletter: https://robskinner.com • Read Rob's latest book: The 10X Christian Available on Amazon or at RobSkinner.com Rob's mission is to inspire you to live a no regrets life, make this life count, and multiply disciples, leaders, and churches.
In this episode, Erica and I talk about the role of the International Coach Federation (ICF) Code of Ethics, and why ethics should never feel like a restrictive set of rules. Instead, ethics are really about love, respect, and protecting the coaching relationship. We explore why clarity with clients matters—from written agreements to how faith might show up in sessions—and how being transparent builds trust. One of the most powerful parts of our conversation centers around the influence we carry as coaches. When clients bring deep emotions or spiritual questions into a session, it can be tempting to guide, correct, or even teach. But coaching isn't about persuasion or authority—it's about curiosity, partnership, and honoring the client's own journey.Ultimately, faith and ethics aren't in competition with one another. When done well, they actually strengthen each other.Integrity builds trust. And trust creates space for transformation. If you're a coach who wants to grow in both your spiritual formation and professional practice, this conversation will encourage you to stay grounded, humble, and client-centered as you serve others.FREE RESOURCES:Link to ICF Code of Ethicshttps://coachingfederation.org/credentialing/coaching-ethics/icf-code-of-ethics/Listen to our sister podcast the REALIFE Practice Podcast on your Favorite Podcast AppTake the FREE Intro to Needs & Values AssessmentReady to discover what uniquely matters to YOU? When Jesus lives inside of us, we often neglect cleaning house for Him because it can get very messy sorting through our lives. What we need to do, rather than making the outside look clean by doing all the right things, is clean our house from the inside out so that the things that truly matter in our heart can be made clean forever.
