How did the conversation come about, and what does it say about the future of Ryan and the Twins? 31:00: J.J. McCarthy had a happy homecoming, and so did Royce Lewis.

Introduction: Host Michael Rand starts with the Twins, who were blown out again while Joe Ryan struggled again. It has to be hard to get up for games down the stretch of a lost season. With the way the Twins are playing, though, should we expect more of the same next year? 7:00: Andrew Krammer joins Rand for a breakdown of the Vikings' quarterback reshuffling and a look ahead to moves they will make to get their roster down to 53 players on Tuesday. 28:00: One position has been solved: punter.

They discuss Vladimir Guerrero Jr. driving in two runs in his return to the starting lineup, Nathan Lukes with a two-RBI night, and Max Scherzer giving up four earned runs over six innings of work. Plus, how important is it this year of all years for the Jays to win the division and get a first-round bye? Steve Adams joins Darragh McDonald to discuss news that the Pohlad family will retain majority ownership of the Twins, why fans are unhappy about it, and whether it will lead the team to trade guys like Pablo Lopez and Joe Ryan this offseason. Also, what led the Nationals to designate Nathaniel Lowe for assignment and for the Red Sox to sign him, how Josh Hader's capsule sprain will seemingly sideline him for the rest of this season, Zack Wheeler's unknown timeline to return after suffering a blood clot, and how mid-August has become an important time on the calendar in regards to prospect promotion incentives and service time. Listener question topics include which bullpen guys could potentially be placed on waivers this month to help their teams shed salary, if the Dodgers will target Kyle Tucker this offseason, and the craziest "come from nowhere" teams to make the playoffs and whether there are any possibilities of that happening this year.
Minnesota fans are stuck with the Pohlads for the foreseeable future, finally stripping any last semblance of hope for the Twins' immediate future. John and Ben break down the impact of the decision both short and long term, and whether Pablo Lopez, Joe Ryan, and Ryan Jeffers will be on the team in 2026 as a result. Plus they look at some positives for these last 6 weeks (Zebby Matthews and Luke Keaschall) and how the Twins can still set themselves up for success in 2026. Finally, they rank the morality and ethics of each member of the Pohlad family (just kidding, John wouldn't take the bait). Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Yankees had a frustrating loss. They couldn't hit Twins ace Joe Ryan and Gio and Jerry agree that it feels like déjà vu for the Yankees offense. Gio thinks Aaron Boone will be fired if the Yankees miss the playoffs but Jerry is not so sure.
The Mets and Yankees both suffered frustrating losses. Gio and Jerry agree the Yankees' offensive struggles against Joe Ryan are déjà vu. Gio believes Aaron Boone will be fired if the Yankees miss the playoffs, while Jerry is unsure. A positive Mets fan from LA, Gio's critique of the Infinity Sports Network talent draft, and C-Lo's updates are also discussed. Gio is hesitant to ask Boomer for a favor. David Wright dislikes the Mets' home pinstripes. C-Lo explains a TikTok trend Brian Daboll referenced. Taylor Swift discussed her relationship with Travis and Jason Kelce on their podcast. Eddie undermines Gio's caddy story. The Moment of the Day: "Down goes Straw" and Jerry is "our Jeff McNeil." The hour concludes with discussions about watching Hard Knocks and CBS celebrating "The NFL Today."
Hour 1 Returning from California, Gio and Jerry discuss the Mets' 6-0 lead blown last night, attributing the loss to David Peterson's poor performance and the team's recent pitching struggles. They question the Mets' future, especially with the pitching staff. C-Lo's update covers the Mets' loss, the Brewers' 12th consecutive win, the Yankees' inability to sweep, Giancarlo Stanton's strong play, injuries at the Jets and Giants joint practice, Breece Hall's contract extension comments, and Jerry Jones's experimental drug trial. The hour ends with Gio and Jerry still struggling with the Mets' ongoing issues. Hour 2 Gio and Jerry discuss their trip to Pebble Beach and their golf games. C-Lo provides an update, and they talk about the Mets' blown lead and Pete Alonso's out at the plate. C-Lo explains the Brewers' free burger promotion. They also discuss Cam Schlittler's early exit, Paul Goldschmidt's potential injury, and a spat between The 7 Line and BT & Sal. Finally, Gio praises Jaxson Dart as an NFL QB prospect, and a caller thanks them for the Pebble Beach trip. Hour 3 Gio thinks Jerry will have an issue with Pete Alonso writing “down goes Straw” on his 253rd home run ball but Jerry is ok with it. Gio says there was no reason at all to include that. They agree that Pete definitely didn't have any negative intentions when he wrote it. Gio wasn't a big fan of Gary Cohen's call of the home run but Jerry liked it. C-Lo returns for an update but first Gio asks him to chime in on the Pete and Darryl Strawberry debate. The Mets and Yankees are a combined 6-17 since the trade deadline. They're hanging onto playoff spots by one game. It's been a dark two weeks. Chris “Mad Dog” Russo was bothered by the Mets celebration of Pete Alonso's 253rd HR and Gary Cohen's call of it. Gio doesn't agree with Dog but he thinks the pregame celebration after the record-breaking game is unnecessary. In the final segment of the hour, Gio and Jerry wonder if Pete's home run ball will stay in the Mets Hall of Fame at Citi Field or at his home. A caller wants Jeremy Hefner fired. Gio says it could happen after the season but Jerry would put the blame on the players and David Stearns before Hefner. Hour 4 The Mets and Yankees both suffered frustrating losses. Gio and Jerry agree the Yankees' offensive struggles against Joe Ryan are déjà vu. Gio believes Aaron Boone will be fired if the Yankees miss the playoffs, while Jerry is unsure. From 'Play Tessie' (subscribe here): In a stunning change after a subpar trade deadline, the Red Sox came home swept the Houston Astros in seemingly convincing fashion. With the Sox now in the top Wild Card spot, should fans be expecting them to make the playoffs and even win the division? Also, reports of the price the Twins were asking for Joe Ryan should give some confidence that Garrett Crochet will have a reliable second starter behind him. And, Walker Buehler struggled once again and with the season winding down, time is ticking on his rotation spot if things don't turn around fast. Kurt Kitayama finished a sizzling weekend with a final-round 65 to win the 3M Open on Sunday, beating Sam Stevens by one stroke for his second PGA TOUR victory.Kitayama, who shot a career-best and tournament-record-tying 60 on Saturday to enter the final round within one of the leaders, birdied six of the first eight holes to build a cushion on a 91-degree afternoon at the TPC Twin Cities.“Getting off to a start like that kind of helps settle you down,” Kitayama said. “Final round, second-to-last group, theres definitely some nerves.”Joe Ryan delivered his worst start in nearly two months during a 9-3 loss to the Washington Nationals and Byron Buxton exited Saturday night's game because of left side soreness. It was a tough day for the Twins' two All-Star players, and an ugly performance for a struggling team attempting to stay afloat in the wild-card standings.“We've been playing some pretty good fundamental baseball,” manager Rocco Baldelli said. “Today was not that.”Buxton didn't return to the field after the sixth inning, but Baldelli said Buxton was “relatively upbeat” when they chatted during the game. Buxton, who made a leaping catch at the center field wall in the first inning, will undergo medical imaging Sunday morning.
