The Number One Cigar of the Year for 2022 is the Alec Bradley Fine & Rare BC-(13)4EV! The Alec Bradley Fine & Rare is an annual limited-edition ultra-premium line that made its debut in 2011. Over the years, the Fine & Rare has been released in different sizes and different blends, but the one common denominator is that each release incorporates ten different tobaccos into the blend. The BC-(13)4EV was planned to be the 2021 release, but its ship date was delayed until early 2022. They say good things are worth the wait, and that's certainly the case with the Fine & Rare BC-(13)4EV as it was the best-performing cigar of the year, and secures Alec Bradley its first Number One Cigar of the Year on Cigar Coop. BC-(13)4EV refers to the name of the blend. While the specific varietals of the leaves of the Fine & Rare BC-(13)4EV are not disclosed, we do know that all of the tobaccos come from Honduras and Nicaragua. The wrapper comes from the Trojes region of Honduras. There is a double binder on the cigar - one leaf from Honduras and one from Nicaragua. The filler also utilizes a combination of tobaccos from Honduras and Nicaragua. The BC-(13)4EV is a 7 x 50 Churchill. As always, production for the Fine & Rare comes from the Raices Cubanas factory in Honduras. The Fine & Rare is Alec Bradley's most premium offering with the BC-(13)4EV priced at $23.65. The packaging for the Fine & Rare is always exceptional and the BC-(13)4EV is no exception. There are ten BC-(13)4EV cigars that come packaged in a wooden chest. Included in the chest is an 11th bonus cigar featuring a different blend and size. The Fine & Rare BC-(13)4EV is a complex cigar delivering a combination of natural tobacco, bread, fruitcake, earth, tea, cedar, and pepper. The flavors start off medium-bodied before going from medium to full in the latter stages. This is countered by medium strength. There are plenty of flavor nuances and flavor transitions. While this cigar certainly delivers the total package of flavor, construction, and complexity, it's the flavor that totally puts this cigar over the top. This is the second cigar from Alec Bradley to land on the 2022 Countdown and the sixth year that Alec Bradley has landed on the Countdown. Coming from Honduras, it's the second Honduran blend to land on the Countdown (both came from Alec Bradley). Finally, the BC-(13)4EV gives the country of Honduras its fourth Number One cigar in the history of the Countdown. Full Report: https://wp.me/p6h1n1-ost

Coming in at #20 is the Alec Bradley Magic Toast Box Pressed Gran Toro. In an effort to generate more interest in the Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show, many companies committed to releasing exclusive offerings that could only be purchased by retailers attending the show. In 2021, the Premium Cigar Association (PCA) made an attempt to somewhat formalize these trade show releases into an exclusive series. One of those exclusive releases for the 2021 PCA Trade Show from Alec Bradley was a limited edition box-pressed Gran Toro version of its highly successful Magic Toast line – a line that landed on the Countdown in 2018. The name Magic Toast traces back to when Alan Rubin and his partner Ralph Montero were down in Honduras at a tobacco field in the middle of the night. As they were looking at the area with a flashlight, Rubin noted how the experience was almost “magical.” Montero suggested they grab a bottle of whisky and propose a toast, thus the name Magic Toast. It also turns out that some of the tobaccos from that field would be incorporated into the Magic Toast cigar line. The Alec Bradley Magic Toast is highlighted by a dark Honduran wrapper. As with many Alec Bradley cigars, the Magic Toast utilizes two binders – one from Honduras and one from Nicaragua. The fillers used are also from Honduras and Nicaragua. Production is handled at the Raices Cubanas factory in Honduras. At press time, the 6 x 54 Box-Pressed Gran Toro is the only box-pressed offering in the Magic Toast. The Alec Bradley Magic Toast Box Pressed Gran Toro cigar delivered a medium-strength, medium-bodied smoking experience. The flavors delivered included earth, coffee, chocolate, bing cherry, citrus, and pepper. This blend transitioned very nicely to the box-pressed format. This was also a well-constructed cigar, and the draw on this cigar was one of the best on a box press (namely it had a touch of resistance). For Alec Bradley, this marks the sixth year the company has placed a cigar on the Countdown. If you are following the reveal order, we have unveiled 11 cigars and this is also the first Honduran-made cigar to place on the 2022 Countdown. Full Report: https://wp.me/p6h1n1-ok6 Note: We incorrectly stated this was the second Honduran made cigar landing on the 2022 Countdown on the video. We apologize for this mistake.

Coming in at #26 is the Illusione Epernay 10th Anniversary D'Aosta. 2019 marked the tenth anniversary of Illusione's Epernay line, and the Illusione Epernay 10th Anniversary D'Aosta was created to commemorate that occasion. The Illusione Epernay is considered somewhat of a game-changing cigar. For a long time, cigars with Nicaraguan tobaccos were often associated with strong and bold, but when it came to the Epernay line, owner Dion Giolito went in the opposite direction and delivered a cigar subtle and refined in flavor. The 10th Anniversary D'Aosta is a 100% Nicaraguan puro. While most of Illusione's production has shifted to TABSA in Nicaragua, the Epernay line is still produced at Raices Cubanas in Honduras. Consistent with the Epernay line, the Illusione Epernay 10th Anniversary D'Aosta is also produced at Raices Cubanas. The D'Aosta vitola is a standard 6 x 50 Toro. The Illusione 10th Anniversary D'Aosta maintained the subtle and refined flavors I have come to expect from the core Epernay line. It's a cigar mild to medium in strength and body, but loaded with complexity and flavor. This cigar delivers notes of natural tobacco, earth, cedar, citrus, must, baker's spice, black pepper, cream, and nuts. This marks the fifth year Illusione has landed on the Cigar Coop Countdown. It also is Illusione's first countdown cigar since 2016.The Illusione 10th Anniversary D'Aosta maintained the subtle and refined flavors I have come to expect from the core Epernay line. Handcrafted at the legendary Raices Cubanas factory in Danli, Honduras, each cigar in this collection is in the popular Meteor Hammer shape, a 6 ½”x 52 box-pressed Perfecto. Be sure to check out this review and many more at: https://m.cigarsnearme.com/blog
Colin Ganley calls in to announce Cigar Tourism's 2012 trips in January to the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. Sign up now before all spots are taken! There are two contests this month: Enter Craig Schneider's September Esencia Contest by sending in your review or "experience" of smoking an Esencia cigar to theshow@cigarmedia.tv. (Be sure to type "Esencia" on the subject line.) On Craig's next appearance on DogWatch (Show #348 on October 14th), he will be awarding the best submission (as he judges it) some cigars from his personal humidor. You can also enter September's Palio Cutter Contest by sending a photo of you or your friends enjoying a cigar to theshow@cigarmedia.tv. (Don't forget to include your mailing address and type "Palio" on the subject line.) Listener Jeff Curtis lets us know about a Fuente event he attended with Cynthia, Carlos and Carlito at Holt's Cigar Company in Philadelphia. The featured 'Cigar of the Week' is the Illusione Cuchillos Cubanos provided by Joe Fuller. The 'What's My Band?' cigar is the Tatuaje Series P Sumatra White Label suggested by Dan Crouch. Check out the live show! Go to http://www.cigarmedia.tv/live/ where the show is broadcast live most Friday evenings at 9 PM EST. Cigar of the Week - Illusione Cuchillos Cubanos- A 60/40 blend of long and medium filler tobacco. Tobacco origin: Nicaragua Cuchillos Cubanos - Picadura Supremo Sizes: ~40~ 5 1/4 x 40 (5-pack) ~42~ 4 3/4 x 42 (5-pack) ~46~ 4 1/2 x 46 (5-pack) ~47~ 7x47 (4-pack) What else have you been smokin' Dale? Buena Vista Reserve Torpedo 5.63 x 54 Doble Robusto - Ecuadorian puros, this line comes in a total of 9 vitolas. The tobacco is all grown in one valley in Ecuador. In their promotional material, Buena Vista makes a big deal out of using Cuban seed and Cuban rollers to create these cigars - not a bad thing, but leaning heavily on the Cuban mystique to market the cigars. Do the cigars hold up to the hype? I enjoyed the one I had this week, but it won’t make my regular rotation list. Medium bodied and fairly complex, it had floral and leather characteristics. Well made and it burned well. Unfortunately, it had that soapy taste that puts me off a bit. I will try some other sizes - perhaps a smaller ring gauge won’t exhibit that flavor as much. Satori Zen 6.75 x 52 Double Torpedo - Many thanks to Kevin at Winston's Humidor for passing this cigar along to me to try! The Satori is another of the micro-batch lines made by Andre Farkas (Viaje). Satori is Japanese for “enlightenment”. This is a Nicaraguan puro, but made in Honduras at Raices Cubanas. The wrapper is an oily, dark Oscuro and the cigar is square pressed and closed on both ends. Two other sizes were available (a Robusto called Karma and a Toro called Nirvana), but only 150 boxes of each size was released this year. The cigar has a very earthy character, and the top thought in my mind from the first half dozen puffs was pepper crusted charred elk steak. There is some cocoa and coffee notes, although very subdued. Medium bodied and not very complex, I still enjoyed this cigar tremendously What else have you been smokin' Bob? CAO OSA: CAO OSA SOL Wrapper: Olancho San Agustin Sun Grown Binder: Connecticut Broadleaf Filler: Honduras, Nicaragua La Palina Pasha: 7.25 x 50 - The Pasha is named for Bill’s father, William S. Paley. As founder and chairman of CBS, William reached into every home in America. It was his interest in promoting the sales of the family cigar company through the use of radio that led him to the broadcasting business. Though known as The Chairman at work, he was jokingly known as Pasha at home. Santos Miami from Jameson Cigar and La Tradicion Cubana - Beautiful square pressed Dominican product that is the strongest of the Jameson line, not dark and oily but sneakily strong. Also previewed some smokes for upcoming shows: Buena Vista Ecuadorian Puro Lou Rodriquez Torano Loyal Reinado San Lotano Oval EP Carillo Maduro What's My Band? - The Tatuaje Series P Sumatra White Label suggested by Dan Crouch. Palio Cutter Contest: The August winner of a classic black Palio cutter is Gregory Dunn from Massachusettes. For September's contest, we are looking for photos of you and your friends enjoying cigars. Send your entry to theshow@cigarmedia.tv. Please include your mailing address with your entry and type "Palio" on the subject line. Do you have a suggestion for the unbanded cigar of the week? Every week Bob and Dale include an “unbanded cigar” segment in their show in which they smoke a cigar without any markings and give their honest opinions. Bob then opens a sealed envelope and discovers the cigar’s name and manufacturer. If you have suggestions for the "What's My Band?" segment, please send them to liz@cigarmedia.tv. Do you have a Cigar Review? If you call and leave a cigar review on the herf line and it is played on the show, you will receive a DogWatch Cigar Radio patch! During this week's show, Bob and Dale discuss retrohaling. On the What's hot? What's not? What's next? segment, Liz interviews Micah Dennison from The Party Source in Kentucky. Bob Baranek, from Weymouth, Mass., wins the November Palio Cutter contest. Cigar of the Week - Illusione Slam 888 (6 3/4" x 48) The 888 box press was one of a couple of recent experiments that Dion made for Fumare in Reno, Nevada. Having to remove a leaf from the filler in order to press it correctly, the blend changes slightly and it's a subtle yet exquisite change. Asked if he would make more of them, Dion replied "I haven't decided yet". So, it could be the end of an experiment - or maybe the beginning some new offerings from Illusione. Either way - they are a real treat! Made at the Raices Cubanas factory in Honduras from 100% Nicaraguan tobacco. Dark Side - H. Upman Sir Winston What else have you been smokin' Dale? Bad Dog Special Blend - NHC Seleccion Limitada (natural Tatuaje) - After featuring the Reserva version as our Cigar of the Week recently and falling head over heels in love with it, I ordered some from NHC last week. Dan threw in a single of the natural wrapped version for me to try, after our discussion on the phone about me preferring the Conny Broadleaf wrapper. I gotta say, that is also one mighty fine cigar! Although I still prefer the darker wrapper, I’ll happily buy and smoke either style for as long as Dan has these available. To me, the Reserva has a more malty, character, while the natural has a touch more spice and brightness. Both excellent cigars! Tatuaje Verocu No. 5 - A 5” x 40 addition to the Havana VI line with the Verocu touch, only presented with no band. A very rich, earthy and savory cigar in a superb format. Perdomo Lot 23 Toro - I always keep a few of these around. I find them a pleasant medium bodied cigar with semi-sweet, roasted nut and bready flavors. I find this a very good cigar to gift to those just starting on the cigar lifestyle - never harsh, always dependable in smooth taste and priced right. What else have you been smokin' Bob? La Caridad del Cobre - I ran into Frank Herrera at the Ybor City Heritage and Cigar Festival this past weekend and after we patched things up I purchased a few different sizes of this new blend from Frank. Produced by Luis Sanchez at La Tradicion Cubana, the line has been extended with new sizes, a maduro and natural wrapper version and some great medium bodied flavors. I’ll be sitting down with Frank next week in Miami to get more details. Brun del Re - Macanudo Cru Royale - A 30 yr old petite corona from Benny Gomez made from 100% Honduran tobacco. Any time you talk with Benny its like having a party, his enthusiasm, humor and joy are contagious. More on this after after I sit down with Benny in Miami. Tatujae Anarchy - a brand new release from Pete Johnson that is quite a departure from his usual. Made by Pepin Garcia, this blend features a wrapper that is a proprietary crop of Ecuadorian Habano leaf personally chosen by Pepin and Pete. The binder and filler are pure Nicaraguan. National release is scheduled for December 10th; box count of 15 for $149.85. A super dark cigar with a unique shape, the foot is fatter -bulbous even. The flavors are expectantly dark with NO SPICE overtones, Dark chocolate cocoa and coffee flavors feed my need for a very creamy mouth feel that brings one dreams of coffee and dancing chocolate bears while being whisked away on its curling smoke trail. What's My Band? - #939: Carlos Torano Liga IV, provided by Ronald Regnier Bob - Sports a light brown wrapper that is wrinkled in appearance, with a slightly squishy feel. Flavor: First impression is dry and sharp. Mellowed a little to a subtly sharp bitter flavor. Nutty flavors. November Palio Cutter Contest Winner: Bob Baranek from Weymouth, Mass. won the carbon fiber Palio Cutter. Enter the December contest now to win a burl Palio Cutter. Do you have a Herf Line Review? If you call and leave a cigar review on the herf line and it is played on the show, you will receive a DogWatch Cigar Radio patch! You can reach the Herfline at 321-594-4373 - or cigar.radio on Skype. You can also send email to theshow@cigarmedia.tv. Origin of the term HERF: From Cigar Craig, http://cigarcraig.wordpress.com/2009/09/29/the-origin-of-the-word-herf/ Do you have a suggestion for the unbanded cigar of the week? Bob then opens a sealed envelope and discovers the cigar’s name and manufacturer. If you have suggestions for the "What's My Band?" segment, please send them to liz@cigarmedia.tv. Thanks to Michael Howe for bumpers and special effects in this show. Music provided by the Figurados from their new album, "Lesson Two," and The Surfonics.
Dodgeball Baggage - The Jury is out The Cigar of the Week is the Cruzado Domenicos. From the mind of Dion Giolito, creater of Illusione Cigars, we get to sample his Cruzado line. The Domenicos is a 5 5/8” by 46 ring gauge Corona Gorda (Dion lists it as a Grand Corona in Perlmans) format. You’ll find Cruzado to be a tad lighter in body & flavor than Illusione. The filler is a blend of Honduran and Nicaraguan Criollo and Corojo tobaccos. The binder is Nicaraguan and the wrapper is Nicaraguan Criollo (Perlman lists it as a Colorado Maduro). The wrapper shades will run from Cafe Claro to Cafe Rosado. Cruzado cigars are manufactured in the Raices Cubanas factory in Honduras and come packaged in wooden boxes with “partial dress” edge wrapping at 20 cigars to the box. This show is dedicated to those who lost their lives 8 years ago in the 9/11 attacks. Never forget! We announce the Expedition: Esteli 2010 trip to Nicaragua!
