'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, and to take him at his word; just to rest upon his promise, and to know, "Thus saith the Lord." The words of this hymn came from a grieving heart. As Louisa Stead reflected on the devastating loss of her husband, she found strength for the future as she trusted in her Lord. We can glean truths from this hymn that will help us walk in the confidence of the Lord on life's good days and on life's most challenging days. Psalm 127:4 "As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth." Every Christian is called to spiritual warfare, using two scriptural weapons: the sword (the Word of God) and the arrow (children, Psalm 127:4). Simeon and I discuss how arrows—our children—must be prepared, aimed, and fired to reach their potential. As Christian parents, we prepare and aim our children in their youth, then release them to fight the good fight of faith. I'm frequently asked for the best marine weather apps. Cruising the Florida coast and Bahamas, I've found a few favorites. Summary Apps are helpful. But don't forget to look out the hatch to see what's happening in your area. If you need more information, here's what we relied on while cruising Florida and the Bahamas. Windy Windy is great for a color-coded, big-picture view of the wind, wave, and rain forecasts. The motion feature shows changes over the hours and days. We've found Windy pretty accurate. It does require internet access to use. RADAR Radar programs come and go. So I can't recommend a specific one. I prefer ones that show how fast the storm cells are moving and in what direction. Hurricane Tracker Everything Hurricane Tracker offers is available on the (US) National Hurricane Center website. What Hurricane Tracker does brilliantly is to make the information easy to access. This is critical if you either have slow internet or pay by data used. For each storm (and Invest and Potential Storm), Hurricane Tracker has all the NHC maps, satellite images, and the official forecasts and analysis. It's quick and easy to tap or click from one to another. Its ease of use is why I'm willing to pay for lifetime access. Marine Weather Center Marine Weather Center is the “proper” name for what most East Coast and Caribbean cruisers call “Chris Parker's weather.” Chris and his staff are full-time marine forecasters for this area and provide subscription forecasts by SSB and email. Subscribe via SSB to talk with him during his designated times for your location. But we use email for time to digest the information. Chris is a former cruiser who understands weather as it applies to boats. And he's trained other forecasters to do the same. Forecasts are quite accurate. They tend to err on the side of caution. Welcome to the second episode in the 2025 Missionary Monday series. We will travel around the world experiencing other cultures and peoples as we hear from missionaries. God is at work in this world! We can have a part in that work! Missionary Jessica Curtis shares about her life serving the Lord in Malawi, Africa. God has had the Curtis family on a unique journey as they've given their lives in service to Him. From Ukraine, to the US, to Africa, they have followed God as He's led them. You will be encouraged to hear how God is working through their ministry and how God has used their time in Africa to remind Jessica to encourage herself in the Lord. As a part of NHC Family, these episodes are great to listen to with your spouse and children! Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe; Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow. Jesus Christ is sufficient to be the payment for our sins! Though our sin left a crimson stain, He can wash us white as snow. It is good for us to reflect on the gift we have in salvation. Join me as we discuss truths learned in the hymn, "Jesus Paid It All." May it remind us that we owe our all to Him! Jason looks back at Saturday's Virginia Derby and Virginia Oaks as part of Colonial's new spring meet, talks about the NHC, and much more!
A new Kentucky Derby 2025 prep, how racing is reacting to tariffs and decoupling and the National Horseplayers Championship are the subjects in the spotlight on the Ron Flatter Racing Pod. Colonial Downs hosts this weekend's $500,000 Virginia Derby, a qualifier for the run for the roses May 3. Churchill Downs Inc. vice president of racing Gary Palmisano Jr. talks about the race, the ongoing rise of the sport in Virginia and his family legacy that continues to drive him. From federal tariffs to the proposed decoupling of racing and slot machines at Gulfstream Park, National Thoroughbred Racing Association CEO Tom Rooney provides an update. He also previews this weekend's 26th annual NHC in Las Vegas, where an $800,000 first prize and an Eclipse Award will go to the winner. Super Screener creator Mike Shutty handicaps the Virginia Derby and the Virginia Oaks at Colonial Downs and the Grade 3 Whitmore Stakes at Oaklawn. John Cherwa joins in the conversation generated by listener and reader feedback from the past week, including reaction to the retirement of Del Mar announcer Trevor Denman. The Ron Flatter Racing Pod via Horse Racing Nation is available via free subscription from Apple, Firefox, iHeart and Spotify as well as HorseRacingNation.com.
Jason discusses this weekend's NHC in Las Vegas as well as looks ahead to some Colonial races for the weekend.
