Episodio inaspettatamente allegro quello di oggi che parte festeggiando un quarantesimo di tutto rispetto perché il 2026 segna le quattro decadi dalla nascita di MAPS, la Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelics Studies. Una vita, quella dell'associazione e del suo fondatore Rick Doblin, votata a eliminare la tabellazione dell'MDMA del 1985 nel Controlled Substances Act americano e il conseguente ban sulla ricerca terapeutica che ha bloccato il lavoro esplorativo di decine di sperimentazioni allora attive. Chissà dove avremmo potuto essere se il proibizionismo non avesse fermato la ricerca scientifica per mezzo secolo, probabilmente almeno in pari con le avanguardie dei laboratori chimici che ci stanno dando meraviglie. È di recente pubblicazione lo studio correlato alla creazione di una pianta di tabacco la cui modifica del genoma ha portato ad un ogm che contiene ben cinque molecole psicoattive tra cui psilocibina e dmt. Questa importantissima innovazione - alle porte di un incremento della necessità di utilizzo di queste molecole in ambito scientifico - salverebbe ecosistemi fragili e eviterebbe ingenti rifiuti chimici dovuti alla sintesi degli psicoattivi in laboratorio. Nonostante si tratti di una big news il fatto che ora sia rimborsabile dal servizio sanitario nazionale, ci troviamo di fronte a una molecola nota - la Citisina - che in precedenza veniva già utilizzata nei trattamenti per smettere di fumare, sottoforma di preparato galenico. Alcaloide atico estratto dal Maggiociondolo, la citisina ha una composizione simile a quella della nicotina e si lega agli stessi recettori, togliendo quindi la voglia di fumare. La nuova preparazione industriale, la terapia più breve e la rimborsabilità sono le novità introdotte da AIFA per dare un boost alle possibilità di uscire da una dipendenza ostica come quella al tabacco. E mentre la Johns Hopkins University pubblica una nuova ricerca su come la psilocibina sia più efficace dei sostitutivi della nicotina nel traghettarci fuori dal tabagismo, ci sembrava utile riepilogare - in questo episodio - lo stato dell'arte sulle terapie farmacologiche che vengono usate, ad oggi, nel trattamento delle dipendenze.
